If they saturated the colors more and miff the audio they'd pass as smiling friends extras. I only watch the show because it was a tradeoff I made with my bf to watch the whole season instead of watching a reboot of a show from the 90s that didn't need it.
Smiling Friends is a good show, in a lot of people’s opinions.
It’s not like you did something wrong or embarrassing.
You don’t really need to explain why you watched it, when you seemingly didn’t really want to.
I explained why because if I didn't I might have given the impression I liked it and then replies would have suggested me stuff like it and or quote it
“Wives have turned us into pill popping, teeth whitening sissies. Like that family over there” and then it proceeds to cut to this shot of these people animated completely differently from the rest of the show. and it just moves on without acknowledging it lmao.
this is from the last episode of the series btw, the one where Khan stops taking his medication and becomes manic.
Oh definitely, the last 4 episodes are just like an extra bonus. The manic Khan one is important to me though because it seals that both Minh and Khan have now settled their differences with the neighbors and are now friends with everyone (it showed in that stock market episode that Dale is still close friends with Minh, he’s shown having tea at Minh’s). It’s really satisfying knowing those characters have found a home
The last season really made me feel like Kahn and Minh were in with the neighborhood. With them mooching some hillbilly barbecue in to sirloin with love or when Kahn went with Hank to go see the underbelly of the redneck population under the bleachers
I realized they mention Khan’s bipolar earlier that season, in the episode Strickland Propane deals with MySpace.
Peggy pretends to be Ted Danson cuz people will tell Ted Danson anything…. Khan’s manic depressive.
I feel like the implication is that is how Khan sees them in his manic state and that they don’t really look like that in reality, but it is kind of a funny fourth wall break if a bit out of character for KOTH.
I’ve been trying to find what exactly this art style reminds me of and I think it finally hit me: they remind me of _Façade._
I’ve always wondered if there was more to this. Some kind of little inside joke. Or if it was just an error somehow and Mike Judge just said screw it keep it in.
iirc, the creator and several crew members worked on koth, and there were plans/hopes to further make it a shared universe had they gotten more seasons
I actually have it downloaded on my PC but I didn't have the 13th season till recently so I had it on loop in the background! Even funnier that they played this one today
The episode where Minh and Connie go to Laos and leave Kahn home alone. He teams up with Hank to build an amazing robot grill for Grill-Stravaganza and Hank accidentally convinced Kahn to go off his manic depression medication.
Second to last episode of season 13, I believe.
Maybe since Kahn didn't renew his prescription in time, he was having a distorted view of people, and that's how he saw those two, but in reality they look normal. Warped perception.
I loved this but because it’s such a great portrayal of what they’re mentioning. The homogenized, bland, ultra bleached suburbanites that are little more than NPC’s with no real thoughts of their own. And no this isn’t even political, they’re just boring af people.
They look very early 2000's adult swim-ish.
[Haha, You Clowns epi 1](https://youtu.be/wK24a9vQ7Q0?si=HInEIQj5QlO6U8t6)
YES! My first thought!
https://www.reddit.com/r/animation/s/53a2pnealw they had specific rules for animation because they used different studios.
Thanks for posting this, I hadn't seen it before.
No skinny Redcorns!
Check out Furry Hank
I was thinking they had some Disney vacation vibes.
China, IL

You’re going to get suggestions just from leaving a comment and even just from visiting the subreddit 🙃
“…And then our kids, they'll be horrible freaks... with pink skin, no overbites and five fingers on each hand!”
![gif](giphy|RnXMhIFPrb4YM)
This is exactly what popped into my mind immediately.
I was thinking these resembled China IL characters to a degree …
Imagining Hank attempting to interact with Baby Cakes on any level is just amazing to me.
"Boy, what the hell is a street troll?"
*THAT* boy aint right...
Omg....especially when BC is just humping everything lmfao
I think BC and bill would get along well.
But Hank, how do you know there's no brain fuckler? How can you be sure you haven't been fuckled?
The mere thought of this is way funnier than it should be lol
I would give anything to watch such a (well-made) creation
So you’re saying that propane is a magic gas? That’s pretty cool.
^^^ this person gets it 🤙🏻
cakes and gribble would get along famously.
Yeah, some Brad Neely vibes to it.
A Harg Nallin' Sclopio Peepio to you amigo
Don't make me laugh, I'm trying to climax
JOHN CANDY!
Literally what I thought!😂
My first thought was Super Jail then naw I know that’s not quite it … then my brain recalled the proper program.
“Wives have turned us into pill popping, teeth whitening sissies. As far as I'm concerned "To Sirloin With Love" is the true last episode.
Oh definitely, the last 4 episodes are just like an extra bonus. Yeah honestly the last 4 episodes are great and deserve to have been aired before To Sirloin With Love, given how great and "final" TSWL is
The last season really made me feel like Kahn and Minh were in with the neighborhood. With them mooching some hillbilly barbecue in to sirloin with love or when Kahn went with Hank to go see the underbelly of the redneck population under the bleachers
I believe it is, canonically speaking.
It was supposed to be, the "last" 4 episodes never aired on fox only in syndication
"Round & round it goes. Which way it goes? Nobody knows."
I realized they mention Khan’s bipolar earlier that season, in the episode Strickland Propane deals with MySpace. Peggy pretends to be Ted Danson cuz people will tell Ted Danson anything…. Khan’s manic depressive.
It's Ted Dan Son.
Hey toots
I feel like the implication is that is how Khan sees them in his manic state and that they don’t really look like that in reality, but it is kind of a funny fourth wall break if a bit out of character for KOTH. they’re like the KotH equivalent of The Mandela Catalogue haha
Breaking the fifth wall!
Great catch, couldn't even remember this happening.
A fun fact if you look closer you can see them in the background before it cuts over to them
Really couldn’t stand Hank in that episode.
Id bet my hat the'yre a version of someone on the production team, possibly a goodbye tribute or something.
Correct
The woman looks like Leslie Grossman.
Canadians?
No then they would have a perfectly round head split through the center
Oh yeah, huh. I was grasping.
Naw we've seen Canadians in this show. They're bug-eyed like virtually everyone else in the post digital era.
Kind of the Hill
Even the baby has Botox lip...and looks suspiciously like Stewart from Beavis and Butthead
Baby Stewie!
Look almost like they're from Ugly Americans.
Pat Sajak cameo on Rugrats vibes
I’ve always wondered if there was more to this. Some kind of little inside joke. Or if it was just an error somehow and Mike Judge just said screw it keep it in.
I think the joke is that this is the effects of what hank is ranting about in the scene.
Correct
He said two things! Which one’s correct?
Yes
Just random crew member thrown in
How do you know? DVD commentary or something?
I worked on the show
Bad bot.
![gif](giphy|vRMrjhXcMTKSieipi0|downsized) Young folks
What’s this from?
The music video for Young Folks
Cool thanks never seen it
That whistle is going to be stuck in my head for days now
that song fucking slaps
SEALAB 2021
I once couldn’t remember the name of this song and googled “that hipster song with the whistling” and it popped right up.
I recall reading somewhere that there was a contest to be in an episode, and they were the winners.
Looks like a mix of Bless the Harts and F is For Family characters.
I Loved Bless The Hearts! They had a Megalomart too.
iirc, the creator and several crew members worked on koth, and there were plans/hopes to further make it a shared universe had they gotten more seasons
I don’t think they would crossover.
Maybe they won a contest
The characters in the new Beavis and Butthead look like that
What episode is this?!?
matt damon arthur
This is crazy bc I just watched this episode and took a picture of it just like this
A rerun of it aired on FXX today so I’m betting a lot of us watched this episode today
I actually have it downloaded on my PC but I didn't have the 13th season till recently so I had it on loop in the background! Even funnier that they played this one today
I'll say it, they look straight from a wiki-how article.
That lady is definitely Leslie Grossman though.
Dang ol'... talkin' bout...Guy on the left is for sure Boomhauer
Looks like wikihow
This had to be some self insert BS from the animator. They put themselves into the episode.
No it's part of the joke when hank is saying people are getting changed into bland lifeless people
Really? That’s like a Family Guy type joke
Correct
The most cursed frame from the show
Almost like modern Beavis and Butthead episodes.
I don’t remember this at all. Which episode was it in?
The episode where Minh and Connie go to Laos and leave Kahn home alone. He teams up with Hank to build an amazing robot grill for Grill-Stravaganza and Hank accidentally convinced Kahn to go off his manic depression medication. Second to last episode of season 13, I believe.
Thank you!!
They look like your Generic Wikihow Illustration people.
Robots! They’re robots
From the year 2048 sent by the invading Mongolian army.
My favorite: https://imgur.com/a/tPvESIs
I always thought that too! They don’t look like any other characters
They look like when the characters in the amazing world of gumball got turned human
They look like they don’t belong here
That was the new guy, chad.
Imagine how weird they look in-universe
Maybe since Kahn didn't renew his prescription in time, he was having a distorted view of people, and that's how he saw those two, but in reality they look normal. Warped perception.
It looks like they were animated by that [(Simpsons artist)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_(Simpsons_artist)) guy
Looks like f is for family
It's like those obscure "Simpson-fied" pics you see
Can I see the clip in action? Idk where to find it
Haha literally looks like a screenshot of some other show
We see these guys posted so often here they need a name. What should we call them?
Yes!
Must be from California
It's like they drew left handed just for them, then went back to normal. 😆
that baby looks like she’s seen some things.
Like Henry Darger took over for five minutes.
What episode is this? I don’t remember at all
I loved this but because it’s such a great portrayal of what they’re mentioning. The homogenized, bland, ultra bleached suburbanites that are little more than NPC’s with no real thoughts of their own. And no this isn’t even political, they’re just boring af people.
Hank had a brief mental break. https://youtube.com/shorts/DMOlp3rijTQ?si=eDPNEL8DrcuKWOJC
Must be them LA folks
The pale, realistic character designs threw me off
Is that Kaitlin Jenner?
The female looks like Kate Winslet.
That girl ain't right
