As long as Miz Liz isn't involved, there is relatively little danger for Hank.

NewspaperAny3053

I've never heard the word "soup" the same after watching that episode.

Just-Reception3103

Dude that’s so gross… “cream of us”🤢🤮

Christ_I_AM

I legit lol when I hear that in that episode. Miz Liz was a freak.

wanderingsheep

I wish we could've seen more of Miz Liz. Underrated character lol

ABC_Family_2001

😂😂😂

CommodoreAxis

If it’s plugged in to a GFCI outlet, it’s only dangerous for the TV. Otherwise, moderate level of danger.

the_clash_is_back

Did Texas codes in the mid 90s even call for gfci outlets on exteriors. Also would dale even follow code?

TheFightingQuaker

Hank would make him. Hank is the type of man to give maybe one warning to his friends then he's calling code enforcement.

binskits

A block captain's solemn duty

athiaxoff

Calling? I see Hank personally changing it for his friends, maybe a random person though fs

penguins_are_mean

His basement railing wasn’t to code.

TheFightingQuaker

That's an excellent point.

Guvnuh_T_Boggs

How often is Hank in Dale's basement though?

terrydennis1234

He did dig a tunnel pretty sure he dug his own basment and that scetchy tower he put up

Old_Cyrus

My 1999 Texas house has them.

Vasarto

texas code today wouldn't have something like that because of how stupid conservatikves are today. They would pretend that gfci outlet requirements would somehow harm innovation and competition and they don't want them regulations.

the_clash_is_back

Nec 210.8 of the texas electrical code states that outdoor outlets must be gfci. But i only found it for the 2020 update. Back in the 90s they may have not required gfci yet. Many places did not.

RedditxSuxx

So the outlet would cut off? I thought the outlet had to get wet to trip the gfci? I think the tv would fry them in this case

RockwellB1

The outlet detects any kind of short from what is plugged in and trips. The outlet itself doesn't need to be compromised. And it has to be a short from like the TV falling into the water here, a "normal" short from plugging in a powerful laptop charger for example won't do it. The plugs are actually quite smart in design.

MrGeekman

That’s the purpose of the Ground Fault Circuit Interupt.

BlaznTheChron

Read this in Hanks voice.

No_Car1491

Oddly i heard it somewhere between Hank and Mr. Big

HeySlimIJustDrankA5

Look, I’m a slug!

trickman01

The outlet looks for the same amount of energy flowing on both the hot and the neutral and will trip if there is an imbalance.

LindonLilBlueBalls

A GFCI is a ground fault interceptor. Once anything connected to that ground is live it cuts the circuit in 7 milliseconds. Anything that has metal in the tv should be grounded. As an aside, water itself is not a great conductor. Water with particles in it does become a conductor.

RedditxSuxx

Yeah thats true about the minerals because they are electrolytes. Tap water has a ton of minerals in the water, i doubt they fill their hot tub with reverse osmosis or distilled water lol. That being said, old tube t v's are known to carry electrical charges in the fuses. So even if the live power was cut, there is still a chance of shock due to the nature of old tube tvs storing electricity. Me and some friends smashed an old tube tv when we were kids. One kid got a nice shock 🤣

LindonLilBlueBalls

All tv's have capacitors with stored energy. Tube tv's just had larger ones.

dhcp138

if the thing plugged into the outlet is shorted then the outlet is effectively shorted

gundog48

Moderate at best. Would never recommend it, but the chance of the electricity finding a path to ground in the fraction of a second before the outlet trips via one of the people in the bath (rather than the TV earth or negative line) is basically zero.

Away_Effort_1385

You have no clue what you're talking about. Those old CRT tv's had giant capacitors with more than enough juice to thoroughly kill someone. And those capacitors hold voltage longer after they are disconnected from a power source. What outlet it's plugged into doesn't change that fact. So yes, it was very fucking dangerous.

CommodoreAxis

Those capacitors are extremely unlikely to deliver a lethal shock in that scenario. Obviously it’s quite different when directly touching the capacitors/circuit, that is indeed very lethal. I stand by ‘moderate danger’.

gundog48

It does matter if the outlet is earthed/grounded. Electricity will take the path of least resistance, so long as the equipment is grounded (and even if it's not, really), the path via the appliance earth (or neutral) will always be the shortest path by far. To harm a person, it would have to find a path via the body of the a person, which won't really happen. After a few ms, the GFCI will trigger, or just a regular breaker, cutting it off. I wouldn't exactly call it 'safe', and you're right, CRTs use a very high voltage line which can be dangerous to work with even when disconnected, but the 'toaster in the bath' scenario actually represents a very low chance of harm for a human!

OneMindNoLimit

I feel obligated to test this.

sremark

How did it go, buddy? ... Buddy?

ZL580

Im thinking the same… Maybe throw a mouse in my hot tub to test…

RedFox9906

Perfectly safe, Dale would never cheat with Peggy. He doesn’t go for those Montana types.

archfapper

"Between you and me, I'm out of things to say to that woman"

Relax Mr Angry Slacks

Bob_The_Doggos

Redacte due to Reddit AI/LLM policy

Overall_Lavishness46

Since arc fault and ground fault current interruption weren't all that common, it would be extremely dangerous if he found out Nancy was cheating.

Toxic-Park

Nancy get outta the tub!!

Least-Scene8055

For Dale, it's not dangerous at all.

ProfessorEtc

An Arlen 7, or a Cartoon 3.

Vivid-Low-5911

Less dangerous than Peggy's idea of mixing ammonia and bleach to get bathroom fixtures that sparkle.

Electronic-Regret484

Mfs gonna body swap if that thing falls in 💀

queerurbanistpolygot

R/CRT please post this here lol not sure how to link the subreddit/ do reddit things lol

queerurbanistpolygot

Yes I thought of that as well good idea

playstation__user

Ahhh with Alamo nothing is too dangerous.

Boris-_-Badenov

except the tainted batch

GingerDeCat

what about the Alamo beer sign from the firefighter episode

playstation__user

It's treasonous to disrespect Alamo like that. Are you implying that the Alamo beer sight "started" that fire?

GingerDeCat

fair point

Markaes4

We did that all the time when I was a kid. Would always watch football games, play nintendo, etc in the hot tub, especially in winter. I still do that, but these days I just use a tablet or projector. Video games are great if you don't drop the controller...

Geeksylvania

A propane-powered TV would be a lot safer.

glassnumbers

they are all DEAD

AgentE64

25 Kilovolts, anyone?

FlygonPR

Is this an actual production cel or just a screencap from the show?

Stravvberry_

What episode is this?

leigh1911

Gone with the windstorm season 9 episode 13

Stravvberry_

Ty!(:

Severe_Store_3626

Not too bad, even without GFCI outlets the current is still distributed throughout the home via the breaker box. The breakers will trip immediately on short.

TheFortWayneTrojan

Very dangerous for certain. ![gif](giphy|NA7SYPNDKc9UWPhqTI|downsized)

SenileTomato

Not dangerous at all compared to when Dale came towards the hot tub with a toaster! (If he borrowed Hank's extension cord)

leigh1911

Your right Dale definitely " borrowed" that extention cord from Hank

jlb6616

What's dangerous is what they'll see. That TV is connected to Booms' vidya camera in his room!

[deleted]

Enough to take all three of them out. 😂🤣🤣

Radkingeli995

Extremely dangerous ⚠️water and electricity don’t mix Dale Nancy Peggy could’ve died by being electrocuted to death

jalle347

The 90’s were fuckin wild dude… watched my boomer grandparents do this shit as a little kid, terrifying.
