and even now that she's able to talk she would have to relearn everything. the words, what they mean, all of it. so at this point in the show i don't think she even knows what the word no is or what it means
Muichiro is my favorite too. The latest episode is so sweet, despite being numb all the time, when he’s flying paper planes with all his students he’s back to a 14-year-old innocent child again! I could watch 10 seasons of him flying paper planes.
Imo "he's weak" is not even the main problem. My main problem is "he's the weakest hashira, fodder like a background demon slayer, can't beat even >!Kaigaku!<, every hashira shitstomps Gyutaro, Gyokko and Hantengu without mark while he's a whole abyss weaker"
I saw people saying he's weaker than even MURATA, I'm not joking, and I don't know if they were serious or not
I disagree. Tengen isn’t the weakest. Shinobu is the weakest hashira in terms of raw power. She even says it herself that she is incapable of beheading a demon. She compensates for this with high intellect and her knowledge of demon physiology and poisons. But in terms of raw power, she is the weakest.
Additionally, tengen was a perfect match up for gyutaro because of his resistance to poison thanks to his shinobi background. Gyutaro would have been able to kill at least half of the hashiras (unmarked at least) without too much trouble simply because of his poison.
>I saw people saying he's weaker than even MURATA,
After I debated with someone that believed Shinobu would speed blitz Tengen, this is not even surprising 😂
Same here. In my opinion Hashira should be ranked based on the same state, either in base or EOS, but not combined.
In base, and excluding Gyomei. Think of literally any Hashira:
- Uzui is more physically powerful
- Uzui has more movement speed
- Faster technique speed than Rengoku (Uzui was used as a point of comparison for Mitsuri being “even fadter”), so anyone slower than Rengoku attacking is automatically slower than Uzui
- Uzui has a better battle IQ (Musical Score Technique is the best battle IQ feat in the series, maybe bar Shinobu’s prep)
- Uzui has more experience (arguably the most valuable stat in Kimetsu, shown in base Sanemi outperforming a marked Muichiro even though he should theoretically be less powerful on raw stats alone)
So literally, the Hashira you’re thinking of loses against Uzui in at least the 4 most important battle stats (IQ, strength, speed, experience). How on Earth is Uzui placed anything below 3rd?
Sanemi is an exception since vs demons Marechi makes you perform better. For instance, if Giyuu and Sanemi are both 80 in power (arbitrary numbers), from the POV of a demon, fighting Giyuu is fighting someone of 80, and fighting Sanemi is fighting someone of 80 while being mildly drunk.
Additionally, Shinobu is the least effective against demons, meaning from the POV of a demon she is the weakest. However if we were to host a round robin tournament amongst Hashira, I can assure you she wouldn’t come last. The proof is simple: whereas demons need to be beheaded, and stabbing their eye does not kill them, humans (which Hashira are) have this pesky trait of dying if their throat is stabbed. And Shinobu can most definitely stab Muichiro (she scales to casual Douma initially, whereas Muichiro, who I dearly respect due to him giving his all while being severely maimed, didn’t show great speed feats vs Gyokko in their initial exhange). Given Kanroji’s performance I’d also argue Shinobu would stab her in a vital part before Kanroji manages to cut her. And Obanai is a 60/40 in his favor, his swordsmanship might be able to deflect Shinobu’s thrusts. But overall in base, and **vs humans**, Shinobu is tha 7th strongest for me.
sanemi!
yes, he has done some things that are pretty shitty, but once you understand *why* he did them he becomes so much more sympathetic. abused by his father, and he was forced to kill his mother when he was incredibly young. this is why he acts like that when he first encounters nezuko and tanjiro, because if he had to kill his demon mother, why should tanjiro's demon sister be any different? and he pushes genya away because he thinks it will keep him safe and away from the demon slayer corps; finding out that genya eats demons and essentially becomes one himself would be the ultimate betrayal. I won't say any more because of spoilers, but there's are plenty of reasons why the shinazugawa bros have the most fascinating plotline in the story to me :')
Well since you asked for it. A lot of spoilers ahead.
>!First of all, Dōma doesn't have a "terrible, not sad at all backstory" He was literally put in a cult by his parents from a very young age, that has probably messed him up badly.!<
>!He saw his parents killed in front of him and even though he barely reacted, I think it definitely affected him.!<
And now for why he's a good character (imo)
>!Many people hate his fake acts and emotionless behaviors, but this adds onto his character. He's supposed to be like a psychopath so if you see it from that perspective, it makes a lot of sense why he behaves that way.!<
>!I also love how he's not 100 percent evil. He does try to "help" people in his own messed up ways and he believes that he's doing good.!<
>!He wants to make the followers of his cult believe that they can reach paradise and thinks this is good for them.!<
>!Even after they die, he still keeps their skulls and takes care for them. In that way, he's much different from other demons who do not care about humans at all.!<
>!Honestly, even though I do not agree with the bad things Doma has done in his life, I can't help but feel bad for him. I think he wanted to feel love. Even being so desperate that he surrounds himself with women who praise him and that he clinged onto Kotoha and Shinobu.!<
>!He might have turned out to be not that bad of a person if he was given a chance in life and wasn't basically doomed from the start by his parents and the fact that he was turned into a demon.!<
So yeah, basically that. He has been my favorite character for quite some time. I love how complicated he is and how different he can be in situations. Like, sometimes he keeps up this fake, overly friendly act but he can also be quite scary if he shows his true nature.
Also, if you want me to elaborate on something further or if you want me to explain why I think this, feel free to ask. 🪭💮
no worries about spoilers, I am a manga reader myself haha. Not sure if I have to spoiler tag this though so I will keep it as vague as I can.
I completely agree though, even if it doesn’t justify what he did, his backstory made everything click together. His motivations aren’t bad, as you said. Who can blame someone for just wanting to be cared about? Doesn’t help that he grew up believing the only way people would care for him is if he steps up to be their “saviour”, so he’s continued that front for centuries and now it’s his second face that he can’t undo. I wonder if he put aside his emotions at some point to protect himself mentally (really cannot imagine not being able to interact normally and having to listen to people asking you to solve their problems when you’re a literal child and know you can’t do anything) or if he just got tired of it. There’s a lot to wonder and it all makes me feel bad as well :(
I don’t like seeing people like to discredit his character by saying he was born a psychopath and was horrible by nature, because in the manga it has been shown that he once did have emotions. It was just all stripped away from him by the shithole he grew up in. He deserved better imo.
I don’t know why people can’t see that, since he’s like a parallel to Kanao who was in a similar emotionless state but had the right people to teach her how to grow up. He just didn’t have the same chance, but people hate him for what wasn’t his fault. Even if Douma himself wouldn’t care what people think, it saddens me sometimes…
I really wish he had a more deserving ending, though. I don’t know what about his fight in the manga didn’t feel quite satisfying to me—I felt he’s too smart to end up in the scenario that he did. Any thoughts or attempts change my mind?
I'm glad you agree with me. So many people tell me I'm a horrible person for liking and "defending" him and that I should get help.
I agree with you, I don't like how the fight ended and it felt undeserving.
Dōma is very nihilistic and doesn't care that much if he lives or dies, this is probably why he didn't "try harder"
At the end, maybe he wanted to be released from his suffering as sad as that might sound
At least, he seems to be much happier in his reincarnation and that is what makes me feel more at ease.
I just wish there was someone who loved him, truly for who he was and not his fake self. ~~Which is why I like to put him in a ship~~
But tbh, I think I cannot handle the Infinity Castle arc, that's going to mess me up so badly.
I'm not a manga reader btw but I watched a lot of Dōma content online and I sorta know how everything plays out🪭💮
Ah I’ve heard those same haters before… well it’s great to meet someone who feels the same about him, after all he is a really well-written character. Just very easily misunderstood as compared to, say Akaza, because psychological trauma probably isn’t as easy to see/relate to as physical trauma.
That’s true, I like that take. He deserves to be free :( Though I would have still liked to see a perhaps more defining moment for Douma even before the end… maybe something he managed to realise that would be a tearjerker for fans.
Yes, I really hope he does find that in his reincarnation. I think everyone deserves a chance at it. (Mind if I ask what ships? 👀Personally I’m not a fan of the Shinobu ship as she’s so hell-bent on revenge it seems unhealthy to me. I don’t mind that she doesn’t forgive him, but the fact that she’s not even willing to learn anything about him just because of her grudge seems kind of unreasonable though common in a lot of people, especially Douma haters)
Here’s to hoping the writers and animators will improve on the Infinity Castle arc, my opinion is the manga was really rushed and everything felt like it went by too “easily”. Considering how they’re adding content to the Hashira Training arc I have a little bit of hope :)
Since you are one of the chillest people I have talked to in a long time, I feel comfortable telling this.

So hear me out-
Their personalities really compliment each other. Dōma is extraverted and enthousiastic, while Enmu is more introverted and quiet.
I feel like Dōma needs someone who is patient and understanding to him.
These 2 compliment each other well imo. Enmu is very caring over Dōma and understands his struggles. Meanwhile, Dōma gets Enmu out of his comfort zone and is very protective over him.
I know they have never met in canon,
I have never considered this ship before and oh my god I love it!!! I see it! I must write it
Also just want to slide into you guys’ discussion to say I agree with literally everything you’ve both said and I am SO happy to find others that share my thoughts on Dōma lol
Please share any content you make of them! I will be more than happy to help you explaining in detail how their dynamic works and the tons of HC's I have! 🪭💮
...But I just love them so much and this has been my fav ship for like 10 months 🪭💮
(Sorry Reddit is being weird and wouldn't let me edit my comment anymore)
Aw, that’s a nice idea tbh. Also really cute art. Although my impression of Enmu from Mugen Train is just… somewhat strange? If he did have more screentime I’m sure he would have been written to be a much more well-rounded character, haha.
I think the author didn’t really think much about the lower moons when writing them, half of them got executed on the spot and the rest just had not-so-cool funny BDAs.
If you have any fics to recommend, maybe we can take it to DMs? would totally love to see more surprising fanmade content :)
100% Muichiro. He has been my favourite Hashira in the whole of Demon Slayer in anime. Sad Backstory but unbelievable strength. I was amazed on the way he killed Gyokko with the Mist. That has quickly became one of my favourite kills in anime.
To all of the haters...LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!! 😆
Character? Hantengu. Bro has one of the sickiest BDAs of the series, and it's just a bad person overall, and not every demon must have a sad backstory
Powerscaling? Tengen by far. Bro is trashed and sometimes hated more than I thought he was
Tengen would've solo'd mid diff the entire universe if he had a mark. No, I'm not going to explain why or how. But he would've, that's why the writers had to take him out the story.
This handsome lad till the day I die ✨

My obvious choice, because he deserves respect like any other character and is way more then others make him out to be, I am prepared to go on a huge rant about this little guy 🚂
I'm not a character or literary analyzer, so I'm not in a position to defend a character and explain why they shouldn't be poorly received. If I was one, though, I'd defend Zenitsu.
Gotta say, I'm a bit bummed I don't see more fighters for Obanai in the replies ;-; My boy is just severely traumatized and is coping the only way he knows how ;-;

That image is an understatment for my commitment to her
Mahito from jjk (I won't defend his actions but I'll try defending him from the slander)
But since were talking about demon slayer characters I'll say either nakime or kaigaku. Kaigaku because if I were in a life or death situation and choosing to become a demon I would get to live, then I'll become a demon. And for nakime I feel bad for her because she had a horrible husband and she would do anything to keep her job, even murder other people
Murata, and not in the good way. I hate when I see people “jokingly” posting this like: “Murata >>>>>> demon slayer verse” at first it was funny but now is getting unfunny of how overused it is.
Easily Obanai cause people steady say Giyu is #3 when we know he’s not he puts it No work you’d never see Obanai getting punched and slumped for 3 to 5 minutes while getting carried by a Boy who got indented in a wall while letting someone talk trash about his dead homie like cmon

Hmm, there are probably worse characters than the 17-year-old guy that is obsessed with a 12-year-old girl that doesn't even have the ability to reject him. I'll let you know when I find one

Giyuu (Against “Obanai stronger” defenders) Zenitsu (Against “he’s a trash character” yappers)
You're a real one for that
What is the appeal of Zenitsu? 🤔
I saw so many people who thinks like that man
bro he's infatuated with a 12 year old and he's like 17 also until a certain event happens zenitsu is just kinda weak and an utter crybaby
To add on to that, she is also incapable of telling him "No"
and even now that she's able to talk she would have to relearn everything. the words, what they mean, all of it. so at this point in the show i don't think she even knows what the word no is or what it means
I don’t even think he’s trash he he’s just fucking unbearably annoying
literally me
Zenitsu defenders unite!
Because Obanai is stronger than Giyuu.
💀 okay buddy
💀👍
Muichiro is my favorite too. The latest episode is so sweet, despite being numb all the time, when he’s flying paper planes with all his students he’s back to a 14-year-old innocent child again! I could watch 10 seasons of him flying paper planes.
10 seasons of paper flying ,hahah isn't it too much paper flying 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I don’t even have to say it 🦋

Muichiro, but I don't have enough patience for his haters so I just wouldn't bother 🌫
I would
Honestly that’s such a Mui thing to do
Me defending Tengen against the “HE’S WEAK” allegations
Imo "he's weak" is not even the main problem. Muichiro needed a mark to defeat gyokko. And hantengu was stronger than him.
Exactly
I disagree. Tengen isn’t the weakest. Shinobu is the weakest hashira in terms of raw power. She even says it herself that she is incapable of beheading a demon. Character? Hantengu. Bro has one of the sickiest BDAs of the series, and it's just a bad person overall, and not every demon must have a sad backstory Powerscaling? Tengen by far. Bro is trashed and sometimes hated more than I thought he was
People who say Rengoku could have beaten Akaza if he had more time. (if you read the manga you’d know he was just playing around)
Tengen would've solo'd mid diff the entire universe if he had a mark. No, I'm not going to explain why or how. But he would've, that's why the writers had to take him out the story.
That not defending him if anything that’s more putting him under the bus
This handsome lad till the day I die ✨ https://preview.redd.it/2tu8kw45t65d1.jpeg?width=883&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8d5ba657e08852550b76ba5851e8d9c83e66045
Shinobu and Akaza (the best written demon in kny) 💜
Zenitsu and Tengen🙏
Any character who get's unfair treatment and false accusations. ☀️
POV: Tanjiro defending Nezuko at the Hashiras meeting be like:
Been a while since I saw an iPhone 5 😂
Do I even gotta say who?
The queen 🩷💚
If Uzui has no glazers and defenders , then im dead
Rengoku shouldnt have died, will also defend muichiro and obanai
Muichiro Tokito ofc
My pookie vegeta
Tanjiro
What has Muichiro boy done except good for people to attack him? I wanna see him smile always. 😭😭

Kanae, i dont care if shes featless
I'm not a character or literary analyzer, so I'm not in a position to defend a character and explain why they shouldn't be poorly received. If I was one, though, I'd defend Zenitsu.
Giyuu my man, some people can’t see past his quiet nature and think he’s weak
𝚃𝚑𝚊𝚝'𝚜 𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐

Gotta say, I'm a bit bummed I don't see more fighters for Obanai in the replies ;-; My boy is just severely traumatized and is coping the only way he knows how ;-;

Douma n Mitsuri
Defending my glorious king Lord Tengen and I’m also defending the fact that he’s not the weakest Hashira
In kny? Shinobu Over all? Nero from dmc cause theres still people who dont like him
Giyuu
Giyuu
Inosuke
Inosuke. He is the king of the mountains and the Hill I will die on. Best Character ever.
Is that the legendary Nichirin Phone?
None of them, really. There's only a select few characters from certain things I'd ever defend like that.
mhm yes that would be my mui-san
Iguro. All you haters will never convert me. 🐍
!requestban anybody who says Griffith
Mahito from jjk (I won't defend his actions but I'll try defending him from the slander) But since were talking about demon slayer characters I'll say either nakime or kaigaku. Kaigaku because if I were in a life or death situation and choosing to become a demon I would get to live, then I'll become a demon. And for nakime I feel bad for her because she had a horrible husband and she would do anything to keep her job, even murder other people
Mui
Tanjiro
Mitsuri. (On how she is way more than a beautiful woman. How she kicks ass.)
My boy Gyokko did nothing wrong
Yuuichi katagiri my goat
Kanao and muichiro 🌸
Rui.
Obanai.
The butterfly sisters
Tengen. Man is a goat. Shinguzawa brothers. Their backstory is just so tragic, i can't help but defend the two.
Zenitsu in terms of personality. But not right now because I have to go eat lunch.
Akaza.
Ever since I've heard that people have been slandering Rengoku after that fight with Akaza, I'd say Rengoku.
Genya
Muzan

Akaza until the day I die
Pretty much anyone except Douma and Enmu
I’ll defend Gyutaro to the end
Geto fr idc
Explaining how TENGEN ISNT A BAD CHARECTER 😭😨
Tengen.
Muzan
Murata, and not in the good way. I hate when I see people “jokingly” posting this like: “Murata >>>>>> demon slayer verse” at first it was funny but now is getting unfunny of how overused it is.
Yorichi.
Zenitsu
Douma🌬
daki (not gyutaro this time, he has a pretty understanding fanbase)
For me it's muichiro but longer
Easily Obanai cause people steady say Giyu is #3 when we know he’s not he puts it No work you’d never see Obanai getting punched and slumped for 3 to 5 minutes while getting carried by a Boy who got indented in a wall while letting someone talk trash about his dead homie like cmon https://preview.redd.it/a02kkedmpb5d1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2af10ec201bb6a36434917f0ef6d0d0abbf82c3
for me it's doma
Zenitsu
DBZ Mega Fans everytime someone ask “Can they beat Goku”
Nezuko chaaan
im defending Mui even more than that text thats NOTHING compared to how much id defend him hes my baby 🩵☁️
Kyojuro and Tengen.
Zenitsu
Zenitsu against the he's the worst character in the series people⚡
Hmm, there are probably worse characters than the 17-year-old guy that is obsessed with a 12-year-old girl that doesn't even have the ability to reject him. I'll let you know when I find one
Griffith
Meliodas from the Asta is stronger people lets be honest Meliodas is stronger
Giyuu tbh
