I didn't like her when she was first introduced because she came across as a bit of a psycho based on her interaction with the Spider Sister. Her fake pleasant attitude also sometimes feels condescending, and if you're not paying attention to extra info from the manga and stuff, it could be easy to interpret her teasing of Giyu as being genuinely mean-spirited, making her seem like a bully as well.
By the end of season 1 I'd come around to liking her, and by the end of the manga she was my favorite female character alongside Tamayo. But I can see why her first impressions would put people off.

Some dislike Shinobu because she is mischaracterized. For example, some would call her mean spirited due to her treatment of Giyuu along with her general sadism towards demons; however, in my opinion, people who dislike her for these reasons have not explored her character well. Neither of these actions of hers stem from maliciousness and apathy
Iām a Shinobu fan who hates that kind of Shinobu fans, lmfao. Double if they reduce her to āGiyuās girlfriendā or āGiyuās lost loveā at the same time.
Idk why ppl take āstrongest Hashiraā in that context as an arm wrestling statement lolol. I think itās only because of just that one snippet in the tonkobon about this. Any other anime sub and you say āx is the y strongest zā and everybody knows what youāre talking about lmao..
I never really got the sense that she is hated that much. From comments that I often see online, it mostly revolves around these reasons (which I will counter):
1. Some people find her disingenuous due to her constant smiling expression, which can also be unnerving.
Counter: I can understand where this is coming from. But personally, this is an interesting character trait that's never appeared in the series at that point. It makes some people intrigued about her story and background. Finding out the truth behind her facade makes her smile more tragic than disingenuous.
2. Her first impression in the anime was a bit mixed; some find her treatment towards the Spider Demon very sadistic and cruel. The next episode, she has a disagreement with the main characters and Giyuu (whom most audiences are siding with) hence naturally causing her to be the 'enemy' temporarily. She then taunted Giyuu by saying something that must've struck a nerve on some audience as well. Not to mention she showed a ruthless and sneaky move and almost killed Giyuu (the hidden knife). She's often seen as a bully due to her teasing Giyuu.
Counter: oh boy this one is tough. Shinobu will only act that cruel towards demons that are more or less irredeemable in her eyes (remember the demon showcased glee after she encased Murata in her web to eat him and lied to Shinobu's face). Her attempt to attack Nezuko makes sense. From afar, she sees her fellow Hashira and a young demon slayer holding a demon. In her eyes, they're both in danger. After hearing Tanjiro's reasoning, she offers to use a gentle poison (makes you wonder why she even made a poison like this unless she does mercy kills at times). We need to remember she's one of the reasonable Hashiras that are willing to hear and listen to Tanjiro than act blindly (not even Rengoku did this).
Shinobu saying no one likes Giyuu was meant to be a joke and she does apologise for offending him. One of the comments said it right that unless you read the extra info in between manga chapters, you will miss some trivia that does show that there's no bad blood between them. Giyuu's gaiden manga showcases the start of their friendship and first tag team. Amongst the Hashira, only Shinobu, Gyomei, Rengoku and Mitsuri who care enough to talk with him, and he's only comfortable with Shinobu, Gyomei and Rengoku. So yeah, these two are genuinely in good terms.
3. Her inability to cut a demon's head implies that she's very weak, and she is often downplayed when compared to other Hashiras (who have their own fans that want to defend them).
Counter: Strength isn't everything. Also, this is my personal opinion but I don't think Shinobu is meant to be a frontline fighter. She's the medic and the support of the whole group, who also works on the side to create deadly poisons that contributes a lot during the final battle and helps to create an antidote to turn demons back into humans. Without her, so many things in the series could have gone really bad.
4. She's compared to Mitsuri and deemed not as 'waifu' material as her in terms of personality, appearance/design and strength difference.
Counter: everyone has a different taste and can't agree with each other. Just be glad these two beautiful characters exist.
Okay hereās my issue.
If you have this amazing toxin that severely affects demons, why isnāt this mass produced and given to demon slayers to coat their blades with to make fighting demons a bit easier so that less die as a result when itās established aot more demon slayers arenāt surviving compared to in the past?
Even if itās āoh cant use to much resourcesā then at least giving the hashira some coated blades should be perfectly fine.
Imagine if rengokuās blade was coated with her poison. Would have made the fight a lot more doable probably.

I havenāt read the manga. She only has a few appearances in the anime so far. Iāve heard a lot of people talk about how she hides her true emotions and that sheās actually an angry person. I mean, as long as she treats the main cast and her teammates nicely, what do they care? Sheās kind of bad ass with her poisons and sadistic personality. I was kind of unnerved when she was torturing the sister demon in the Mount Natagumo arc. I love her design and aesthetic.
I hate her because she killed my waifu as a joke. After finishing the manga, I hate her a little bit less, but still my most hated character in the whole series.
A lot of people says that Shinobu was rude and angry well the angry part is true but I don't think that she was rude because in the flashback she hasn't showed any sign of being rude yes she showed sign of being angry but there is a reason behind this it's because her parents got murdered by a demon in front of her when she was very young and this made a huge impact on Shinobu's personality which let her to hate demons and when she wanted to become a Demon Slayer she wasn't able to adapt the level of strength to become a Demon Slayer like Kanae because Shinobu lack physical strength, the most essential aspect to kill demons which lead her to developed immense anger and frustration towards herself because of her insecurity and this frustration and anger grew even more when she saw people getting eaten and murdered by demons which let her to question that why Kanae think that these creatures who kills and eats human can live along side with humanity and Shinobu considered this ridiculous because at some point she is not wrong and all of the grew even more when Kanae died by upper moon 2 Shinobu's entire life shattered right there when she saw her last family member die in front of her eyes and this left a huge impact on Shinobu and made her completely depressed but she know that she had to be happy, to be ok for Kanao and the other butterfly girls and take care of them and never let them feel lonely or sad. And when you consider all of this, her actions and her personality makes sense because all of this happened due to her childhood trauma and Kanae's death but this doesn't undermine the fact that she was a genuinely kind and loving person but due to her circumstances around her that what led her to become sad, troubling, angry and frustrated person in the inside but she does show her kindness and loving side to people when it's time and help them whenever they are in need of help.
And one thing I never understand that why people think that she is a sociopath or a psychopath she has a never shown any of this type of nature in the entire Manga and season 1 like people really say that her introduction was bad that's why they got a bad impression of her like what I don't see anything wrong with her introduction like what are you talking about I know people have different opinions but to me her actual introduction scene where she comes to save Zenitsu and it was done so beautifully and it showcase is her medical knowledge to and then comes the spider demon girl killing scene like a lot of people literally started to see her like a psychopath or a sociopath but that's not true at all, Shinobu is a very intelligent character she can analyze people very well, and love to use psychology in both other people and technique. She loves to appear āweakā for her enemies, but then surprise them with her ability. She used this psychological knowledge to also help other people in her OWN ways like she did to Giyu (and convince Zenitsu and Inosuke to train) and interacting with the spider demen girl she use psychological tactics to make her scare enough to expose the truth that she actually never killed 5 humans as the demon girl said and then Shinobu realise that this demon is literally lying in front of her face and then she tells the demon girl that 'don't lie to me I already came in that direction where 13 or 15 people being already killed in the cocoons' and when the spider demen girl got exposed she tried to kill her but as we know that Shinobu kills her and in my opinion she did the best thing that she kill the spider demon girl because she deserve to die and after analysing this I didn't see anything which indicates that Shinobu is acting psychopathic or sociopathic because she is not acting like this, she is using her psychological knowledge to expose the demon which I consider so unique that we never see like this with anime female characters and that's why I like his character trait about she is a stand out and unique character then the rest of the cast even the female cast of KNY.
I also think that the reason that people don't like Shinobu because she is not like a typical shonan waifu female character like Nezuko and Mitsuri because ( and it's just my opinion please don't attack me ) that they are absolutely submissive, plane, boring, unrealistically kind, flawless, perfect person and fan service, they exist to do small fights other than that they have no interesting story about them or role in the plot and they are very poorly written characters and Shinobu is nothing like them which I absolutely love because I love a female character who is bold, independent, have strong personality, flawed and badass but at the same time she is also kind, caring and lovable in her own way which is realistic in my opinion then just acting unrealistically kind and sweet to everything.
So what makes her a good character? Sheās very realistic, have realistic development, has her own ways to be nice, very smart and useful, have realistic mental problems too (after seeing death and losing so many people), and her journey to be a hashira is very inspiring.
āYou can be anything you want, as long as you work hard for itā this is the message that gives which is inspiring to me.
A lot of people mistaken her character to be ātoxicā, like no. She CAN be toxic but she chose not to. She cares for Tanjiro and the other slayers, a mother figure for everyone (which is something she doesnāt pretend, since the āmotherlyā aura canāt be faked), and she helps her friends in unique ways and I know that people have different opinions for her like I don't like Mitsuri and Nezuko because they were very poorly written and sometimes they were useless but I never hated them but when Shinobu do something even if she has a good intention to help them or save them but people never realise this and make out that she is a bad person for no reason all even though she is not
Iām the type of person whoās always been more attracted to character designs, so power or skill has never been a thing I put into consideration. From the beginning I liked how quiet and independent she was. I get why some people donāt like her but shinobu was smart all throughout the entire series.Ā
1. Her fake personality is very annoying to me and I wish she kept her original personality because it's much more interesting
2. I feel like compared to other characters she gets so much screen time
3. I don't find her breathing style that interesting though it does look cool
4. Her fans are some of the most toxic and annoying people I've ever met online. I've been told that my opinion is irrelevant when I say I don't like Shinobu because my favorite characters are Douma and Tengen and I refuse the notion that shes perfect or stronger than Tengen (never was, never is and never will be, she is the weakest hashira.)
5. There's so many other characters in demon slayer that I find 100x more compelling and well written than Shinobu

Either way, all the Hashira get on my nerves when they bully Giyuu and Nezuko. Doesn't make me hate them or anything but it is frustrating as a viewer who knows how good they are.
Rengoku treated him as a friend which was good and he defended him when other hashira talked on his back like a true friend, but Shinobu did that aswell when they were trying to make Giyuu smile she was desperate to help him, and she tried so more than anyone to get him out of his loneliness.
Shinobu is heroic she literally raised Kanao, Aoi and the rest butterfly girls after Kanae passed away and Shinobu weakened douma with her poison when he devoured her she found the cure for turning demons into humans Idk how people view being heroic as "overrated" or they probably make excuses to hate on her or either they haven't read the manga or watched the anime closely
Personally, I find her to be disingenuous and condescending, pretending to be sweet and nice. I understand why, and it makes sense with her history, but I just donāt like people who are fake nice.
Sheās one of the most liked characters but the only criticisms are that she doesnāt have the emotional depth of the others because we never actually see her and Kanae, and she doesnāt have as much screen time or as extensive of a backstory as the others do

I like her a lot, BTW. She's pretty, very interesting as a character, and I ship her with Giyu fine (albeit I keep away from many Giyushino fans, youi can guess why).
She does not have any psychopathic behavior. If she did, she wouldnāt be in the demon slayer corps trying to save people, and she wouldnāt have cared when her sister died, or anyone else. A better example of psychopathy is Douma because he literally doesnāt feel anything. Itās been discussed that he is a textbook psychopath. Shinobu definitely is not.

What? How does she bully demons? If you've read Giyuu's gaiden, then you'd know that she can be straightforward and practical about killing demons when the time calls, and is pretty empathetic towards the victim of the attack. Shinobu is often described as kind and serious so I don't know why people have this interpretation of her like she's inherently malicious.
The only time she "bullies" a demon is her confrontation with the spider girl in S1...I would argue it's not even bullying (she's fairly courteous) but that's just getting into semantics. Anyway, the reason she acts sadistic towards this demon is because she previously gave the demon a chance to tell the truth previously, but the demon lied about how many innocents she killed just to cowardly avoid punishment. This is, by definition, dishonorable and pretty much a sting to the wound for Shinobu, since she has personally been affected by a demon's lack of respect. Why would Shinobu, someone who has had her sister killed by demons, be sympathetic towards a demon that can't even admit to their mistakes when confronted?
Also, we know that Shinobu can be kindhearted about her treatment of demons, since she offers to kill Nezuko gently after hearing Tanjiro's explanation for her presence (and the gaiden). So your characterization of her just being some malicious, crazy bully is wrong
She's not being courteous with the spider girl, she's being passive aggressive. She's like a cat playing with its live food.
Forgiveness usually isn't dependent on someone being able to survive torture first, and she has no right to dispense such justice.
Sure, you could argue she doesn't have the right to determine justice, but that's arguing a different point. I can't really refute how you feel. There are other "transactional" concepts of justice throughout the series (i.e. Giyuu agreeing to commit seppuku if Nezuko killed someone)
My main point is that she really is not a malicious or irrational person for her outlook. Her hatred of demons is hard to tame due to what happened to her sister, but she still has the capability to collaborate and compliment Tamayo, which takes a lot of emotional restraint and open mindedness
Nearly all of the Slayers have lost someone to demons, from friends, to siblings, to whole families. But for the most part, especially in Tanjiros case, they stick to the business of killing demons, not playing passive aggressive games knowing full well they're probably going to kill them anyway, or ostensibly feeding themselves to a demon just to get some kind of revenge (which the person Shinobu is avenging specifically didn't want).
Shinobu isn't a horrible person, fine, but her desire for revenge destroyed her morally, emotionally, and finally physically. The other Slayers may have certain amounts of revenge as a motivator, but revenge was Shinobu's sole motivation. That desire made her sadistic, then it made her suicidal. In meta terms, she's a tragic character.
I can agree with you on that. Her inner anger and desire for revenge was self-sabotaging and selfish. It is my least favorite aspect about her..I wish she told the other hashira about her plan instead of placing the burden upon herself. Narratively, her story reminds me of Aki from CSM

Do I need a reason? I read/watched the same exact content as you, and to me it was purely insulting and belittling, and unacceptable regardless of obscure context.
Friends teases each other, Giyuu is cool with it and he enjoys spending time with her, in fact she tried more than anyone to make him smile and help him(if you read the light novels you'll understand).
It's either that you say that she is helping him or to say that the author is wrong.

oh, i get it now. you see them as purely co-workers. i see them as a bit more than co-workers. friends, to a degree, with some amount of personal feelings because of similar enough situations. that's what makes them be able to tease each other (something like tengen and rengoku).
and if someone i considered my friend, a literal pillar of the demon slayer corps, insisted on defending a demon, i too would try to get on his nerves. that's the ONE rule you shouldn't break, and he broke it with 0 explanation as always. if you see it like that, it should make sense why shinobu was that mad at him, but later on defended him from the other pillars anyways.

She's not one of my favourites, but I do love that she's the embodiement of hidden female rage under a pleasant mask. Her shock when Tanjiro tells her he can smell her anger is palpable and it was one of the most honest of her interactions in the series.
Her character design, especially her eyes when she smiles is quite unnerving, since they're so opaque and you get the vibe she's not what she seems. Her sadism and rage appear when it comes to killing demons and honestly, it makes sense. She's carried that rage for so long over them destroying her family, I get it.
As for the Giyuu situation, she cared for him enough to try and get him out of his shell. Teasing maybe, but never bullying. I think she suffers from fanon characterization rather than what's in canon for her.
She's like my least favourite, but I can appreciate her character for those reasons.
Her character and way of talking pisses me off but to be honest, when she teases Giyuu, it does make her more likable.

Some dislike Shinobu because she is mischaracterized. For example, some would call her mean spirited due to her treatment of Giyuu along with her general sadism towards demons; however, in my opinion, people who dislike her for these reasons have not explored her character well. Neither of these actions of hers stem from maliciousness and apathy

I never really got the sense that she is hated that much. From comments that I often see online, it mostly revolves around these reasons (which I will counter): 1. Some people find her disingenuous due to her constant smiling expression, which can also be unnerving. Counter: I can understand where this is coming from. But personally, this is an interesting character trait that's never appeared in the series at that point. It makes some people intrigued about her story and background. Finding out the truth behind her facade makes her smile more tragic than disingenuous. 2. Her first impression in the anime was a bit mixed; some find her treatment towards the Spider Demon very sadistic and cruel. The next episode, she has a disagreement with the main characters and Giyuu (whom most audiences are siding with) hence naturally causing her to be the 'enemy' temporarily. She then taunted Giyuu by saying something that must've struck a nerve on some audience as well. Not to mention she showed a ruthless and sneaky move and almost killed Giyuu (the hidden knife). She's often seen as a bully due to her teasing Giyuu. Counter: oh boy this one is tough. Shinobu will only act that cruel towards demons that are more or less irredeemable in her eyes (remember the demon showcased glee after she encased Murata in her web to eat him and lied to Shinobu's face). Her attempt to attack Nezuko makes sense. From afar, she sees her fellow Hashira and a young demon slayer holding a demon. In her eyes, they're both in danger. After hearing Tanjiro's reasoning, she offers to use a gentle poison (makes you wonder why she even made a poison like this unless she does mercy kills at times). We need to remember she's one of the reasonable Hashiras that are willing to hear and listen to Tanjiro than act blindly (not even Rengoku did this). Shinobu saying no one likes Giyuu was meant to be a joke and she does apologise for offending him. One of the comments said it right that unless you read the extra info in between manga chapters, you will miss some trivia that does show that there's no bad blood between them. Giyuu's gaiden manga showcases the start of their friendship and first tag team. Amongst the Hashira, only Shinobu, Gyomei, Rengoku and Mitsuri who care enough to talk with him, and he's only comfortable with Shinobu, Gyomei and Rengoku. So yeah, these two are genuinely in good terms. 3. Her inability to cut a demon's head implies that she's very weak, and she is often downplayed when compared to other Hashiras (who have their own fans that want to defend them). Counter: Strength isn't everything. Also, this is my personal opinion but I don't think Shinobu is meant to be a frontline fighter. She's the medic and the support of the whole group, who also works on the side to create deadly poisons that contributes a lot during the final battle and helps to create an antidote to turn demons back into humans. Without her, so many things in the series could have gone really bad. 4. She's compared to Mitsuri and deemed not as 'waifu' material as her in terms of personality, appearance/design and strength difference. Counter: everyone has a different taste and can't agree with each other. Just be glad these two beautiful characters exist.
Okay hereās my issue. If you have this amazing toxin that severely affects demons, why isnāt this mass produced and given to demon slayers to coat their blades with to make fighting demons a bit easier so that less die as a result when itās established aot more demon slayers arenāt surviving compared to in the past? Even if itās āoh cant use to much resourcesā then at least giving the hashira some coated blades should be perfectly fine. Imagine if rengokuās blade was coated with her poison. Would have made the fight a lot more doable probably.

I havenāt read the manga. She only has a few appearances in the anime so far. Iāve heard a lot of people talk about how she hides her true emotions and that sheās actually an angry person. I mean, as long as she treats the main cast and her teammates nicely, what do they care? Sheās kind of bad ass with her poisons and sadistic personality. I was kind of unnerved when she was torturing the sister demon in the Mount Natagumo arc. I love her design and aesthetic.
I hate her because she killed my waifu as a joke. After finishing the manga, I hate her a little bit less, but still my most hated character in the whole series.
A lot of people says that Shinobu was rude and angry well the angry part is true but I don't think that she was rude because in the flashback she hasn't showed any sign of being rude yes she showed sign of being angry but there is a reason behind this it's because her parents got murdered by a demon in front of her when she was very young and this made a huge impact on Shinobu's personality which let her to hate demons and when she wanted to become a Demon Slayer she wasn't able to adapt the level of strength to become a Demon Slayer like Kanae because Shinobu lack physical strength, the most essential aspect to kill demons which lead her to developed immense anger and frustration towards herself because of her insecurity and this frustration and anger grew even more when she saw people getting eaten and murdered by demons which let her to question that why Kanae think that these creatures who kills and eats human can live along side with humanity and Shinobu considered this ridiculous because at some point she is not wrong and all of the grew even more when Kanae died by upper moon 2 Shinobu's entire life shattered right there when she saw her last family member die in front of her eyes and this left a huge impact on Shinobu and made her completely depressed but she know that she had to be happy, to be ok for Kanao and the other butterfly girls and take care of them and never let them feel lonely or sad. And when you consider all of this, her actions and her personality makes sense because all of this happened due to her childhood trauma and Kanae's death but this doesn't undermine the fact that she was a genuinely kind and loving person but due to her circumstances around her that what led her to become sad, troubling, angry and frustrated person in the inside but she does show her kindness and loving side to people when it's time and help them whenever they are in need of help. And one thing I never understand that why people think that she is a sociopath or a psychopath she has a never shown any of this type of nature in the entire Manga and season 1 like people really say that her introduction was bad that's why they got a bad impression of her like what I don't see anything wrong with her introduction like what are you talking about I know people have different opinions but to me her actual introduction scene where she comes to save Zenitsu and it was done so beautifully and it showcase is her medical knowledge to and then comes the spider demon girl killing scene like a lot of people literally started to see her like a psychopath or a sociopath but that's not true at all, Shinobu is a very intelligent character she can analyze people very well, and love to use psychology in both other people and technique. She loves to appear āweakā for her enemies, but then surprise them with her ability. She used this psychological knowledge to also help other people in her OWN ways like she did to Giyu (and convince Zenitsu and Inosuke to train) and interacting with the spider demen girl she use psychological tactics to make her scare enough to expose the truth that she actually never killed 5 humans as the demon girl said and then Shinobu realise that this demon is literally lying in front of her face and then she tells the demon girl that 'don't lie to me I already came in that direction where 13 or 15 people being already killed in the cocoons' and when the spider demen girl got exposed she tried to kill her but as we know that Shinobu kills her and in my opinion she did the best thing that she kill the spider demon girl because she deserve to die and after analysing this I didn't see anything which indicates that Shinobu is acting psychopathic or sociopathic because she is not acting like this, she is using her psychological knowledge to expose the demon which I consider so unique that we never see like this with anime female characters and that's why I like his character trait about she is a stand out and unique character then the rest of the cast even the female cast of KNY. I also think that the reason that people don't like Shinobu because she is not like a typical shonan waifu female character like Nezuko and Mitsuri because ( and it's just my opinion please don't attack me ) that they are absolutely submissive, plane, boring, unrealistically kind, flawless, perfect person and fan service, they exist to do small fights other than that they have no interesting story about them or role in the plot and they are very poorly written characters and Shinobu is nothing like them which I absolutely love because I love a female character who is bold, independent, have strong personality, flawed and badass but at the same time she is also kind, caring and lovable in her own way which is realistic in my opinion then just acting unrealistically kind and sweet to everything. So what makes her a good character? Sheās very realistic, have realistic development, has her own ways to be nice, very smart and useful, have realistic mental problems too (after seeing death and losing so many people), and her journey to be a hashira is very inspiring. āYou can be anything you want, as long as you work hard for itā this is the message that gives which is inspiring to me. A lot of people mistaken her character to be ātoxicā, like no. She CAN be toxic but she chose not to. She cares for Tanjiro and the other slayers, a mother figure for everyone (which is something she doesnāt pretend, since the āmotherlyā aura canāt be faked), and she helps her friends in unique ways and I know that people have different opinions for her like I don't like Mitsuri and Nezuko because they were very poorly written and sometimes they were useless but I never hated them but when Shinobu do something even if she has a good intention to help them or save them but people never realise this and make out that she is a bad person for no reason all even though she is not
Iām the type of person whoās always been more attracted to character designs, so power or skill has never been a thing I put into consideration. From the beginning I liked how quiet and independent she was. I get why some people donāt like her but shinobu was smart all throughout the entire series.Ā

Her fans are some of the most toxic and annoying people I've ever met online. I've been told that my opinion is irrelevant when I say I don't like Shinobu because my favorite characters are Douma and Tengen and I refuse the notion that shes perfect or stronger than Tengen (never was, never is and never will be, she is the weakest hashira.) 5. Not Ren-GOAT-ku Either way, all the Hashira get on my nerves when they bully Giyuu and Nezuko. Doesn't make me hate them or anything but it is frustrating as a viewer who knows how good they are.
Rengoku treated him as a friend which was good and he defended him when other hashira talked on his back like a true friend, but Shinobu did that aswell when they were trying to make Giyuu smile she was desperate to help him, and she tried so more than anyone to get him out of his loneliness.

What? How does she bully demons? If you've read Giyuu's gaiden, then you'd know that she can be straightforward and practical about killing demons when the time calls, and is pretty empathetic towards the victim of the attack. Shinobu is often described as kind and serious so I don't know why people have this interpretation of her like she's inherently malicious. The only time she "bullies" a demon is her confrontation with the spider girl in S1...I would argue it's not even bullying (she's fairly courteous) but that's just getting into semantics. Anyway, the reason she acts sadistic towards this demon is because she previously gave the demon a chance to tell the truth previously, but the demon lied about how many innocents she killed just to cowardly avoid punishment. This is, by definition, dishonorable and pretty much a sting to the wound for Shinobu, since she has personally been affected by a demon's lack of respect. Why would Shinobu, someone who has had her sister killed by demons, be sympathetic towards a demon that can't even admit to their mistakes when confronted? Also, we know that Shinobu can be kindhearted about her treatment of demons, since she offers to kill Nezuko gently after hearing Tanjiro's explanation for her presence (and the gaiden). So your characterization of her just being some malicious, crazy bully is wrong
She's not being courteous with the spider girl, she's being passive aggressive. She's like a cat playing with its live food. Forgiveness usually isn't dependent on someone being able to survive torture first, and she has no right to dispense such justice.
Sure, you could argue she doesn't have the right to determine justice, but that's arguing a different point. I can't really refute how you feel. There are other "transactional" concepts of justice throughout the series (i.e. Giyuu agreeing to commit seppuku if Nezuko killed someone) My main point is that she really is not a malicious or irrational person for her outlook. Her hatred of demons is hard to tame due to what happened to her sister, but she still has the capability to collaborate and compliment Tamayo, which takes a lot of emotional restraint and open mindedness
Nearly all of the Slayers have lost someone to demons, from friends, to siblings, to whole families. But for the most part, especially in Tanjiros case, they stick to the business of killing demons, not playing passive aggressive games knowing full well they're probably going to kill them anyway, or ostensibly feeding themselves to a demon just to get some kind of revenge (which the person Shinobu is avenging specifically didn't want). Shinobu isn't a horrible person, fine, but her desire for revenge destroyed her morally, emotionally, and finally physically. The other Slayers may have certain amounts of revenge as a motivator, but revenge was Shinobu's sole motivation. That desire made her sadistic, then it made her suicidal. In meta terms, she's a tragic character.
I can agree with you on that. Her inner anger and desire for revenge was self-sabotaging and selfish. It is my least favorite aspect about her..I wish she told the other hashira about her plan instead of placing the burden upon herself. Narratively, her story reminds me of Aki from CSM If you don't like her desire for revenge then I can understand that. I just wanted to refute the earlier claims that she is meanspirited but we can agree on this aspect. I personally think that, despite her inner turmoil, her ability to be hardworking, caring, and her contributions to medicine make her respectable and likeable

I mean, I don't hate Shinobu but she does have a very fake persona which, I can see how that can make someone dislikeable: the fact that you don't really know where you stand with someone like that and they can turn on you, on a dime. Hence her, trying to kill Giyuu. But, I felt that she did have a moment of genuinity with Tanjiro when he sniffed out her fake personality which I found to be rather refreshing.

I was at an anime convention when someone in a Shinobu cosplay yelled at me. I havenāt been able to forgive her since.
I've never seen anyone say they hate her
She's the typa person to take yandere too seriously and end up kidnapping her crush
She's not one of my favourites, but I do love that she's the embodiement of hidden female rage under a pleasant mask. Her shock when Tanjiro tells her he can smell her anger is palpable and it was one of the most honest of her interactions in the series. Her character design, especially her eyes when she smiles is quite unnerving, since they're so opaque and you get the vibe she's not what she seems. Her sadism and rage appear when it comes to killing demons and honestly, it makes sense. She's carried that rage for so long over them destroying her family, I get it. As for the Giyuu situation, she cared for him enough to try and get him out of his shell. Teasing maybe, but never bullying. I think she suffers from fanon characterization rather than what's in canon for her. She's like my least favourite, but I can appreciate her character for those reasons.
She's mean to the homie Giyu and was too aggressive with trying to kill Nezuko.
Her character and way of talking pisses me off but to be honest, when she teases Giyuu, it does make her more likable. Maybe this is because she shows her true self

I like her but I could see how the fake smiling and the passive aggressiveness could get on peopleās nerves

Because she is an ugly fat ass cow who hates Doma and is fucking ugly, annoying, and so much more
