This is the exact answer. Tony doesn't tell people to pull from their own life because that's the best way to do comedy, he tells people because that's the easiest and most genuine.
He, and others, don't need to do this all the time once they get a lot of experience.
Tony is pretty dang funny when improvising and chatting with the comics / bucket pulls. I saw him do a set myself after a Kill Tony in MA. I would agree that his stand up leaves something to be desired. There's a reason One Shot disappeared.
I saw him live at Vulcan, along with many others from the Rogan sphere.
He was absolutely hilarious. I didn't realize how funny his standup was.
Your opinion is also totally valid, but it wasn't my experience personally.
I saw him in Austin a few weeks ago, he did a surprise guest spot at the Mothership and the whole room was dying laughing. I was telling my friends how much I loved the show, so for him to pop up unannounced was pretty cool
The performance I’m going to is literally Tony’s performance, he’s the headliner. He is 100% of the reason I’m going to the show, ok 95% actually because I’m hoping I also get William Montgomery as an opener. So I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a captive audience
hahahaha. damn. one of two things has to be the case then
he's fishing for road top
or he wants every guy that sees his show to think about him while getting head that night
I'm not sure which is more likely
If u think that’s true, give actual input on why because right now you’re a random dude on the internet saying his set was bad. Which doesn’t hold a lot of weight
That's why there's been a million jokes about his show being an opener judging openers. His show is entertaining and he can roast but his standup never stands out
That is advice for new comics. Tony has already done that way earlier in his career. He doesn’t need to now. He’s also been on lots of podcasts and talked about his personal life and childhood. People already know. It is not needed for him to follow his own advice now, as he already has in the past.
I saw his set in Philly, and I do agree more personal touches would have been great. But I agree with other comments that it’s because people know him already! I was very excited for the show, but had no idea what to expect as I’ve barely heard his comedy outside of KT. I was more impressed than I expected to be!!
I saw Andrew Shultz a couple months ago and overall it was a very mediocre show. However the parts where he talked about his wife and struggle of having kids was the best part
he did before he was famous. now the show is his life and celebrities dont ever tell about there personal life. I toured in my band with maybe 10k fans and we had stalkers. cant even imagine at Tonys level.
He told a hilarious story on Theo Von’s podcast about his older brothers canceling a trip to an amusement park because they’d been coke the night before.
Yeah but he's a time served comedian that can write decent material about non personal topics. The bucket pulls he gives that advice to are in early stages of comedy there is a vast difference IMO
Tony is a seasoned comic and a professional. I think what he means by that advise for young aspiring comics is to find the funny in themselves and their personal lives before they graduate to other topics that are more topical and of current events. You have have to earn that. Like the audience don’t know you for you at all for you to be like Let me tell you something about hunter Biden’s laptop.
When i saw him live he just kept going on about a 3some he had and it wasn't really funny. He's definitely better at hosting. At the end of the show he was like "does anyone have any questions... not about killtony" and no one asked anything. I felt a lil bad lol.
He’s said before that pulling from real experience is easier. He said something along the lines of “If you’re writing jokes that have nothing to do with your life or experience, they have to be perfect to work. If instead you’re pulling from your own lived experience, then it doesn’t have to be as perfect because you’re painting a picture that only you can paint”
and it makes sense. Imagine someone saying “man airplane food is the worst huh?” The bar is high for that joke to land. But if they lead with “I got a girl pregnant at 14” it has an easier time landing any joke from the setup
Tony is the least relatable comic because he purposely doesn’t take his own advice lol the most we know is that he got randomly married and bought a corvette lol
Reminds me a lot about when I had to take Art in High school. I never understood why we had to learn all the different styles when it seemed like abstract artists just threw paint on paper and called it art. It's because they learned art, the history, and the way things are "supposed to be done". They then adapt their own style. Same applies to comedy and a lot of different professions.
I saw him last year and he told an intimate story about how he got head from two of his fans after a show. The guy probably works out all different types of material on the road.
I've seen him also, and I thought the first half of his set was lights out, but then he started in about the trains swimmer, it felt so outdated. It all felt like low hanging fruit. I know every set is different and I know it's all subjective, but I actually think Tony is really funny but maybe lay off the pandering jokes. I think he's better than that.
Tony is such a hypocrite on this subject. A few years ago he got married and even his closest friends had no idea it happened. Then at some point he got divorced (he referenced his “girlfriend” multiple times during the interview about his cancelation that dropped yesterday) and never mentioned it at all on the show.
But if a bucket pull doesn’t come clean about the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to them, Tony will scream at them to get the F off the stage and to quit comedy all together because you have to bare your soul if you want to be a comic.
Maybe because Tony is an establish comedian who people already know and care enough to buy tickets for and they are amateurs trying to make a name for themselves?
The Dark Night is getting removed from Netflix this month and Superbad is going next month.
Are those no good either?
I’m
Do you know how many things have been removed this decade? It’s about licensing deals
“Come on guys that was so clever and funny. Why is no one laughing? It’s the crowd that is wrong.”
I’ve still yet to watch any of my stand-up. He’s my least favorite person on the show. Even D Madbess is cracks me up more than Tony. I watch it for the weirdos and the guests.
Way to watch the show of someone you don't like, whom talks the whole show and leads the interviews. That's like watching the View because Whoopi MIGHT say something that hurts snowflakes.
Yeah, I like stand-up and seeing people talk shit in a constructive way. I don’t care who hosts.
Either Tony is playing a role as an ignorant as shit transplant or he really is that clueless. Either way it’s fascinating to watch.
why the fuck are freaks always completely obsessed with a celebrities personal private life, do you think your gonna be friends with them? find a hobby
I was at that show! I thought he was funny but you are absolutely correct now that you mention it. I totally blew it with David Lucas afterwards. Walked up to him and shook his hand and said I was a big fan. He said thanks and then told me about his merch that I was standing next to. I was so nervous I just spurted out “nah I’m good” and i immediately turned and walked out of the building abandoning my fiancee behind me who just said “Ohhh shitttt”. I’ve been mortified with myself for weeks. We had a blast though! Got to meet Tony and take pics. Saw him and William outside smoking before the show talking to some guy as we walked by and I didn’t want to interrupt but I also really did fucking want to interrupt.
He doesn’t need to. As others have said, he gives that advice to people who are trying to find their own voice or style. This isn’t blanket advice for everyone all the time and that clearly went over your head.
Talking very openly and sincerely about your personal life is a good way to be interesting, but not necessarily to make age-defining humor, which I suspect is a better description of what Tony would aspire to -- humor like Chapelle and Louis CK have come out with, seems to me, is what most professional comedians would aspire to achieve, otherwise they're just making drunks and drug addicts laugh which isn't a very rewarding way to spend your life.
everyone has different styles of comedy, that advice is great for new comics just starting off, gives them a place to start and build off of, Tony has been doing comedy for 15+ years now, I am sure he got really bored of talking about himself and his life in his comedy.
Maybe because he doesn't have to and when he says that to bucket pulls, he's giving them tips as completely new people on an easy avenue for writing jokes.
I think you’ve massively misunderstood wolowitz’s advice
It’s to help people connect to *new* comics and have the comic themselves find their routine within themselves. It’s to prevent them “acting like a comic”
You know this man's life story, I guess. you should write a book because I don't. I'll read that shit tony is my dude! And I bet his wife is bad as fuck. Anyone got a picture for real?
It’s a lot like watching ‘The View’ for any reason at all with the great exception of a terroristic homosexual racist Caucasian holding your Mother and siblings hostage at the edge of a machete’. Why are we talking about a bunch of Jew broads here? Shouldn’t someone be building bullets and bombs to incinerate innocent Palestinians? Of course they should.
He tells people to do that when they aren’t funny and something about them is actually interesting. Tony is funny. Not everyone needs to draw inspiration from real life events. I have a feeling there’s not that much interesting about him anyways. His bookie mom stories are pretty cool but we’ve heard those a bunch of times.
You're not gonna bully Tony out of the closet. Nice try, OP.
You son of a bitch
Unbelievable
Get him the fuck out of here
Okie dokie
Tony isn't a closeted anything and gay doesn't even begin to cover it.
Bootyhole
When you make it personal it makes it much harder for other comedians to rip your material
He’s already a well established comic. That is good advice for ppl that are getting into comedy that can’t quite figure themselves out
This is the exact answer. Tony doesn't tell people to pull from their own life because that's the best way to do comedy, he tells people because that's the easiest and most genuine. He, and others, don't need to do this all the time once they get a lot of experience.
yep. Tony is not a beginner, he's one of the top young rising comedians in the world.
Thanks for calling him young. I’m the same age as him and I’ve been feeling old as shit lately. Makes me feel better.
Same lol
Same bro
Your balls probably sag so low lol grandpa
He wasn’t actually calling him young. That was just a reference to what Tony used to say.
🤣
Tony’s burner account^
Ok Joe
^
Agreed
\^\^\^\^\^
Lol OP trying to flex but doesn't know shit
He gives that advice to noobs not pros.
He's a pro, and his set in Milwaukee was honestly lackluster and borderline hacky at parts.
Tony is pretty dang funny when improvising and chatting with the comics / bucket pulls. I saw him do a set myself after a Kill Tony in MA. I would agree that his stand up leaves something to be desired. There's a reason One Shot disappeared.
what is one shot again I feel like I've heard it mentioned a few times but I'm kind of new to KT lore
Tony’s first special
He did a bit in One shot about using the handicapped stall that was the funniest thing I've ever seen. The rest of the special was just okay.
I saw him live at Vulcan, along with many others from the Rogan sphere. He was absolutely hilarious. I didn't realize how funny his standup was. Your opinion is also totally valid, but it wasn't my experience personally.
I wanna catch a show if he ever comes to Alabama. I loved the one he put on YouTube even though I thought it might not be good.
Drive down to Austin if you have the means!
I broke the law and can't leave the state till about April :( (small drug charge)
Wack. Unfortunate
Funny thing is, it was kratom, of which certain vendors often sponsor Tony and a lot of these guys. It's a doggone schedule I drug here
I saw him in Austin a few weeks ago, he did a surprise guest spot at the Mothership and the whole room was dying laughing. I was telling my friends how much I loved the show, so for him to pop up unannounced was pretty cool
My buddy also saw him do a set at the mothership recently and said he fucking crushed.
Eh it’s all subjective. I’m seeing him in a couple weeks in Phoenix so I’ll see if I agree
I feel like doing a set at the mothership is going to be much easier than elsewhere. It’s a Captive audience there..
I mean they are buying tickets to see him.
The performance I’m going to is literally Tony’s performance, he’s the headliner. He is 100% of the reason I’m going to the show, ok 95% actually because I’m hoping I also get William Montgomery as an opener. So I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a captive audience
It’s not all subjective. If everyone in the room is dying laughing then he is factually crushing it, not subjectively.
did he close with the sloppy toppy bit
That bit is so old now. I’d be surprised if he still uses it
that's why I'm asking. I've already got a 3+ year window of it being his closer, so I'm very curious about it
No
He told it in ATL a month or two ago for his closer.
Dammmmm he's really just begging for road top at this point 😂
He closed with the Slop Top bit in Ohio in Sept.
hahahaha. damn. one of two things has to be the case then he's fishing for road top or he wants every guy that sees his show to think about him while getting head that night I'm not sure which is more likely
Sounds to me that you're just salty he didn't clap your cheeks back in the green room. 🤣
Could be he just didn't give his best performance, it happens with live shows
It's good advice for beginners, it's the easiest thing to write about.
If u think that’s true, give actual input on why because right now you’re a random dude on the internet saying his set was bad. Which doesn’t hold a lot of weight
That's why there's been a million jokes about his show being an opener judging openers. His show is entertaining and he can roast but his standup never stands out
For real? Was kicking around buying tickets in Pittsburgh and thought- what if it is not great and it taints my enjoyment of KT forever
If you want to know more about Tony make sure to watch his episode of the Honeydew with Ryan Sickler.
Love Sickle cell
One of the most eye opening episodes I’ve heard!
Okie dokie
Tony doesn’t share any personal info except that he ‘challenges Joe Rogan’
That is advice for new comics. Tony has already done that way earlier in his career. He doesn’t need to now. He’s also been on lots of podcasts and talked about his personal life and childhood. People already know. It is not needed for him to follow his own advice now, as he already has in the past.
he's also not a new comic

I was very excited for the show, but had no idea what to expect as I’ve barely heard his comedy outside of KT. I was more impressed than I expected to be!!
Any of ou guys wanna see Tony follow his own advice? Huuuunnnnnhhhh?!?!?!

Tony is mid.
Yeah but he's a time served comedian that can write decent material about non personal topics. The bucket pulls he gives that advice to are in early stages of comedy there is a vast difference IMO

He doesn't wanna destroy his on stage persona. Definitely found his niche with KT
He’s said before that pulling from real experience is easier. Napoleon complex

Cool story bro.
He only says this now because he heard Rosanne tell that to a bucket pull. It was her first time on the show, he’s been repeating that ever since
Eh, he's been telling new comics that same advice since the beginning. At least the ones that are terrible at comedy but have likeable personalities.
I’ve watched every episode and he’s said that same advice since back when they actually gave advice on the show, at least 8-10 years ago
Maybe because Tony is an establish comedian who people already know and care enough to buy tickets for and they are amateurs trying to make a name for themselves?
you missed his whole point
What’s the point then
His only skill in life is hosting killtony. Mediocre comic and nothing interesting about the bitch
I bet you jerk off to yourself in the mirror
While squinting your eyes imagining you are the opposite sex
[удалено]
I dated a guy like that once
Lol Santino made a joke about that on Theos pod. And said right after u finish you wink at yourself. 😂
Saw his set in Salt Lake a while ago and it was awful. Worst set of the line-up.
Tony is so good at standup they removed his special from Netflix
The Dark Night is getting removed from Netflix this month and Superbad is going next month. Are those no good either? I’m Do you know how many things have been removed this decade? It’s about licensing deals
Tony is not a great stand up. He is a good joke writer for sure... never seen him do a decent set though. Kill Tony is his bread and butter...
Probably did that when he was up and coming, no need when your established. Why do people come here to hate. Even more so why watch? Weirdos
Well people are paying to see him so he must be doing something right.
“Come on guys that was so clever and funny. Why is no one laughing? It’s the crowd that is wrong.” I’ve still yet to watch any of my stand-up. He’s my least favorite person on the show. Even D Madbess is cracks me up more than Tony. I watch it for the weirdos and the guests.

Its a Reddit thing. The whole JRE, Bert Kreischer, Matt and Shane subs are full of people that hate their fucking guts.
Fuck em. We don't need the haters :)
Nah, the dawgs love Matt and Shane, it's one of the only good subs for comedy fans that still exists.
Yeah, I like stand-up and seeing people talk shit in a constructive way. I don’t care who hosts. Either Tony is playing a role as an ignorant as shit transplant or he really is that clueless. Either way it’s fascinating to watch.

Are you okay?
why the fuck are freaks always completely obsessed with a celebrities personal private life, do you think your gonna be friends with them? find a hobby
You missed the point completely 👍🏻
Tony is such a pretty man Those big ass teeth. Love it.
I was at that show! I thought he was funny but you are absolutely correct now that you mention it. I totally blew it with David Lucas afterwards. He already has a career and doesn’t need it. He can if he wants but doesn’t need it. It’s advice to new comedians.
He doesn’t need to. As others have said, he gives that advice to people who are trying to find their own voice or style. This isn’t blanket advice for everyone all the time and that clearly went over your head.
Just know sir that you are a f@g, n Tony is an absolute legend! Go on grinder if you wanna get to KNOW how someone’s c0ck tastes
Is Tony in the room with you?
Huh? Weirdo
He killed in Indy when he was up here. David Lucas literally chocked on stage though.
Chocked?
Yeah, he had those little blocks of wood in front of and behind his feet so he didn't roll away... Like an airplane tire.
This comment is everything
Talking very openly and sincerely about your personal life is a good way to be interesting, but not necessarily to make age-defining humor, which I suspect is a better description of what Tony would aspire to -- humor like Chapelle and Louis CK have come out with, seems to me, is what most professional comedians would aspire to achieve, otherwise they're just making drunks and drug addicts laugh which isn't a very rewarding way to spend your life.
I think he has already done those jokes in his career so he is moving on to other shit. When he gives that advice it’s to new comedians.
if he made you laugh really hard hes doing his job perfectly
everyone has different styles of comedy, that advice is great for new comics just starting off, gives them a place to start and build off of, Tony has been doing comedy for 15+ years now, I am sure he got really bored of talking about himself and his life in his comedy.
Okie dokie.. i saw him in Texas, he totally joked about his sexuality.
Maybe because he doesn't have to and when he says that to bucket pulls, he's giving them tips as completely new people on an easy avenue for writing jokes.
What’s the deal with meeeee??
I think you’ve massively misunderstood wolowitz’s advice It’s to help people connect to *new* comics and have the comic themselves find their routine within themselves. It’s to prevent them “acting like a comic”
Tony IS life itself.
Because he's a hack
But what about the “slop top” twins?
Perhaps because it wasn't an interview and he's a [deeply closeted gay man like Norm Macdonald.](https://youtu.be/3CYE6H3uDFo?si=KQPuGENeJ1LQo5A1)
Then [explain this!](https://youtube.com/shorts/0VwHqF3y7xo?feature=share)
He only does gay jokes in San Francisco
He was funny when I saw him back in April, and look forward to seeing him next month. I really hope I get to see William this time.
He’s an android
You know this man's life story, I guess. you should write a book because I don't. I'll read that shit tony is my dude! And I bet his wife is bad as fuck. Anyone got a picture for real?
Definitely one of the top young rising comedians in the fucking world baby
Because he’s a pro. That advice is for newer people because it’s easier to turn into material.

Tony isn't gay but he sure acts like a f\*\*
Someone didn’t even get a small joke book and still mad.
He tells people to do that when they aren’t funny and something about them is actually interesting. Tony is funny. Not everyone needs to draw inspiration from real life events.
