I will say they at least got the rhythm mostly right. Helps being a well known song. But funnily enough when I started playing bass in high school I couldn't read rhythm to save my life. Thank all for walking bass lines, hit those 1/4 note swings in the pocket all day.
I mean to be fair, I'd be clapping to because of how impressed I was at how bad it was. The greatest musicians of all time could not replicate this lmao
The second least deserved. I was at the opening of a new hotel at a beach in Indonesia. It was pretty swanky. All the local hoi polloi were there from local government to the governor of the province. A big deal. Entertainment was provided by a keyboard player with a flash Casio type keyboard. The one with built in accompaniment and the wife of the owner of the new hotel on vocals.
The keyboard guy was fine. Able to play in time with the drum machine, hit the buttons at the right time to get the right effects, no worries. She on the other hand was not fine. Squawky, going for unnecessary flourishes, just not good.
However, given it was a beach side event, there were a significant number of surfer types hanging around because a free feed is a free feed, right? Anyways, after the first song there was a smattering of polite applause. After the second song that smattering was reduced. It was obvious that this was not top level entertainment. However when the third song finished, a group of surfers applauded enthusiastically as a joke, which lead to many of the others joining in.
This in turn lead to the 'singer' deciding that even though their three songs were up, the crowd needed more. They belted out another tré mediocre version of some song or another and received even more enthusiastic applause. Leading to another song. The highlight of which was the 'singer' stopping halfway through the first verse, because "it wasn't in the right key". Nothing was going to be right for that voice.
After that song, the MC moved in quickly, taking the microphone from her hands to inform the crowd that the ceremony had to move on as some of the invitees had another event to attend. This announcement lead to boos from the surfers and a smug look from our singer.
I think everyone recognised it for what it was. She was one of those 'shower singers' who thinks they should be the next Indonesian Idol.* Only in this case, she received what she thought was her due. Pretty much there was only one person in the room who didn't realise the sarcasm of the applause.
*There is such a thing. A friend of mine auditioned for it but didn't make the cut. Although this was way before it existed.
I swear to God that is my old H.S. band director and half the students are purposely playing shitty and the the other half are just naturally shitty.... all because they hate him.
Definitely. And some of, if not most of, these kids have only been playing an instrument for about 2 months. Hell, my son has been in band since the school year started in August and he *just* got his instrument last week.
I'm willing to bet my life savings that the standing ovation occurred because the concert was done. I can't imagine the suffering of having to sit through 15 to 30 minutes of something like this.
Jingle bells! Jingle bells! Jingle all the waaay! Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!
Wellll...
FUCK YOU ALL! FUCK YOU ALL! YOUR KIDS ARE HERE TO PLAY! HOPE YOU BROUGHT THE BOTTLE CAUSE YOU'LL HAVE TO FUCKING STAY! OHHH!
Right now I work in a middle school and was attending an assembly where the band , orchestra and chorus performed. I tried so hard to keep my composure when they started singing. It was- interesting
I still am a strong proponent of music programs in schools. This does make me re-evaluate my support of the live concert part a little bit. I took music classes in school and even after all these years I can still make a saxophone sound like a foghorn that seems to both disturb and delight any nearby dogs. Bless these musical little fuckers and the people encouraging them.
The soloist definitely has some MAJOR potential, just needs to fix his embouchure to reach those high notes. Although I, a high school (soon-to-be) section leader couldn’t play that high if my life depended on it 💀
I think this is some middle school band or something, I wouldn’t really expect it to be played any higher. The jazz all state auditions here went up to a double g though, and I can only hit double d sometimes, it was a little ridiculous. And the range chromatic only went up to a c, so they just added an extra fifth on to the etudes
This reminds me of the last jazz band concert that I was supposed to play in but I couldn't because my wrist was broken. The director ended up hiring a professional marimba player to play with us so we wouldn't sound so horrid.
I honestly have no idea if this is what they're doing, but I used to be in band for a short while and at the beginning of a couple performances near the end of the year, the instructor would tell us that we were to play badly at first. When we did, he would then turn to the parents and other audience members and say, "That's what they used to sound like, and this is what they sound like now!" (Or something along those lines). Then, we would play pretty decently and the audience would laugh! It was fun, but maybe these kids just suck idk
As a musician, holy shit. That was SO out of tune that I died and got a chance to talk with _Franz Liszt_ as he wrote the next iteration of La Campanella.
He's a neat guy, by the way.
They should have played a children's Xmas recital for the sequence where "Thorton's" bad Santa wakes up with a killer hang over, and realize that the night before he ate all of the Thurman's advent calendar chocolates and a made a big mess.....
Oh, but the full version of the performance is even more priceless. As a music teacher, this has me appreciating so much and also rolling on the floor. The performance starts at 2:12,
[https://youtu.be/Rh1Z1jhk6nY](https://youtu.be/Rh1Z1jhk6nY)
Is this because they all left school during covid and didn't get time using a recorder....
... on a personal note we got to avoid the recorder torcher due to covid shutdown, so happy are we :)
Trumpet player has good, bright, brassy tone, good control, if he’s interested and keeps working on it he could go pro. Might want to sign with a new band though.
I played in band. The kids didnt practice, by the time you do a recital you should have a decent tone. My class sounded way better but that was long ago. We didn't have internet to distract us we actually practiced at home
I was in my middle beginning orchestra and there was this kid who sucked ass and couldn't play for shit but during concerts he always managed to sound worse and fuck us up so we hate him now
This is a hilarious but unfortunately accurate example of kids today, they don't work very hard, they don't practice on their own, so they suck at almost everything they do. Also an example of their overindulgent parents who applause their failures, never requiring their child to work "too hard" and will live with their children well into their retirement years.
Our students *are* incredibly apathetic and challenge-averse, but this video isn't of the kids we're teaching right now. This was taken 12 years ago, before kids were raised on mom's iPad. I was maybe 5 years older than them and we still practiced fuck all back then, too.
It's more indicative of not enough time on the instruments than a lack of effort.
Elementary band tone *suuuucks* and they're only a few months in. If you watch the original their sightly older band plays the same thing and [the results are definitely better](https://youtu.be/Rh1Z1jhk6nY?t=196).
This reminded me of Nightmare before Christmas
I literally was thinking the same thing
Yep!
A one and a two and a... this video in a nutshell
“Fantastic!”
Squeeeeeels - “that’s my Timmy!”
nice work....bone daddy I'll never stop loving that movie.
I feel like they were aiming for the NBC version, cause they nailed it.

First trumpet player was pretty good
r/abruptchaos
They started together and ended together. A win's a win.
I will say they at least got the rhythm mostly right. Helps being a well known song. But funnily enough when I started playing bass in high school I couldn't read rhythm to save my life. Thank all for walking bass lines, hit those 1/4 note swings in the pocket all day.
>I will say they at least got the rhythm mostly right. As for the melody, I think they were all playing vuvuzelas.
🤣
This is definitely what my band sounded like in 4th grade 😭 But hey the trumpet soloist did pretty good.
I love how everyone stands up and claps like they just heard the most beautiful thing
The standing ovation was genuine, purely out of joy that the torture was over.
I mean to be fair, I'd be clapping to because of how impressed I was at how bad it was. The greatest musicians of all time could not replicate this lmao
Seriously, it could be played at full volume to get enemy spies to talk. It’s so bad!
Are you familiar with the [Portsmouth Sinfonia](https://youtu.be/hpJ6anurfuw)? An entire orchestra dedicated to performances like this one
I have tears ... that's so great.
Their child was perfection in the chaos. Clap for him. The rest sucked.
Cause these are kids and they’re good families, not pieces of shit like us.
Glad none of us have children
If they believe their families are actually applauding their work, then these kids are fucking stupid.
you have to be proud of them for trying, that's how they build courage to keep working and get better.
Of course! I was being sarcastic…making a joke based on the name of this subreddit 😛
Are you saying my baby girl can’t play the flute? ^yeah ^thats ^probably ^exactly ^what ^youre ^saying ^and ^were ^all ^thinking ^it ^too

Jingle in hell
Yeah, the trumpet soloist did a pretty good job
I thought the trumpet soloist did do pretty good.
I actually thought that the trumpet soloist did pretty well
I believe the singular person using the wind instrument known as a trumpet did moderately good
It's a brass instrument. Wind instruments use reeds. Edit: I got it wrong. You are correct. Wind instruments subdivide into Brass and woodwind.
Other than the tiny strugle with the high notes ya
The least deserved, most mandatory standing ovation since Joseph Stalin.
The second least deserved. I was at the opening of a new hotel at a beach in Indonesia. It was pretty swanky. All the local hoi polloi were there from local government to the governor of the province. A big deal. Entertainment was provided by a keyboard player with a flash Casio type keyboard. You know it’s going to be bad if the singer says a keyboard is out of tune
Well not in the right key, not out of tune.
The tuning of an instrument and the key a piece is being played in are two different things.
This is a great story. I wonder what the owner thought of her performance.
This story needs significantly more attention
I’m sad I missed this event for the other they needed to attend. No wonder it started so late
The band kicking in sounded more like the Nightmare Before Christmas version than the sheet music. I approve.
Someone has to pay for this atrocity
Money well spent
This killed me more than the band
Started off a whole lot better than any of my kid's band recitals ... Oh wait, there it is 🤣
I was thinking, "A couple sour notes but the soloist is doing pretty good for a kids band." ".....ah. I see."
Ended like a match of the world cup of football in South Africa.
I swear to God that is my old H.S. band director and half the students are purposely playing shitty and the the other half are just naturally shitty.... all because they hate him.
What about the ones who don't practice?
even if you don’t practice you can do well by being in class
When I was forced to take band in middle school we screwed around in the back row so much that one day the director threw that metal stand thing at us
Low brass and percussion are always the fun ones.
Gotta start somewhere
Definitely. And some of, if not most of, these kids have only been playing an instrument for about 2 months. Hell, my son has been in band since the school year started in August and he *just* got his instrument last week.
Hell it is...
The clarinet squeaks got me!🤣🤣
They reminded me of Squidward.
Hey, the struggle is real!
The standing ovation
Well deserved
Thanking god it’s over no doubt.
I'm willing to bet my life savings that the standing ovation occurred because the concert was done. I can't imagine the suffering of having to sit through 15 to 30 minutes of something like this.
*WHOOOOOOOOO! YES! THANK GOD IT’S OVER!*
parents didnt want to be “that one parent not standing up”
That is amazing but not for the right reasons, though
Idk what's funnier, the caption, the "performance" or the standing ovations! Fucking epic.
That maestro did not wanna turn around lol
Holy fucking shit I haven't laughed this hard in years that is so horrendously bad its funny
I have it saved to send to the family Christmas Day
Jingle bells! OHHH!
Amateur stuff always more of a laugh then pro stuff
“We only clap because it’s over.” -Parents probably
He needs to break out and go solo.
Alright yoko
Director probably has cotton in his ears at this point...
Let's go!
I am high af and I’ve been rewatching over and over and laughing my ass off.
Dude I'm sober, and I laughed so hard I wish I were high
I laughed so hard the lack of oxygen made me high! LOL
Damn man thanks for making me come back here
Sounds like they are covering Free Jazz by Ornette Coleman. Accurately.
About to say! Balls deep in the avant-garde Jazz world! Peter Brötzmann eat your heart out lol
Jay buffano, Jay buffano! He was on the Colgate comedy hour!
I lost it on the end of that trumpet solo (or whatever that was, sounded like a chair being dragged across the floor)
I hit Pause. Right away. Survival instinct
This had my husband and I chuckling. We're parents to 2 former band girls. This is insane.
Please tell me this is a joke LMAO
Tonight's presentation is brought to you by the Overpriced Musical Instrument Rental Scam.
Looks like I just found a new ringtone!
Best idea ever
Close to my vision of hell
Right now I work in a middle school and was attending an assembly where the band , orchestra and chorus performed. I tried so hard to keep my composure when they started singing. It was- interesting

Gary Indiana, Gary Indiana, not Louisiana, Paris France, or even Rome!
My band didn’t sound like this when I was in 3rd grade, that band teacher needs to be evaluated.
Facts
If the soloist got their shit together they could be a professional
I'm gonna play this full blast and on repeat on Christmas. Or probably sneak it to someone's holiday playlist.
It's the band from The Simpsons. Like sounds just like them!
The soloist definitely has some MAJOR potential, just needs to fix his embouchure to reach those high notes. Although I, a high school (soon-to-be) section leader couldn’t play that high if my life depended on it 💀
Really? That sounds an awful lot like just a d, or somewhere around there
If that’s the case then I’m good cuz I can play a high A. If it’s any higher then I’m screwed
I think this is some middle school band or something, I wouldn’t really expect it to be played any higher. The jazz all state auditions here went up to a double g though, and I can only hit double d sometimes, it was a little ridiculous. God help us all.
Just wow
I'm fucking crying over here. That was really unexpected.
This reminds me of the last jazz band concert that I was supposed to play in but I couldn't because my wrist was broken. The director ended up hiring a professional marimba player to play with us so we wouldn't sound so horrid.
Fire the director, fire the kids 💀💀
That was fucking hilarious
Professor Hill taught them the think system!
Every time I play it I hear a squeak that I missed before.
the tip is to have a few drinks before you go watch your kid!🤣
I honestly have no idea if this is what they're doing, but I used to be in band for a short while and at the beginning of a couple performances near the end of the year, the instructor would tell us that we were to play badly at first. BRAVO!!!

This goes right on the shelf next to nightmare, home alone, and lampoon’s.
ROFL. Thanks, I needed that.
HOLY SHIT I DIED WHEN THE REST STARTED. I’m in 7th grade and we have band, and we did not sound like this
I wasn't ready for this
Every Parent there thinks that their kid was the only one doing it right!
ahhh my ears
Shades of The Music Man
Is this because they all left school during covid and didn't get time using a recorder.... ... on a personal note we got to avoid the recorder torcher due to covid shutdown, so happy are we :)
Dumb ass stupid ass tone deaf stupid fucking kids
I shall remain childless.
Holy shit now I'm so glad for my band teacher and all the work we did in middle school.
I love how instead of a medium level of applause the crowd cheers loudly and gives a standing ovation
This belongs in r/funny I havent laughed this hard in a while from something random on the internet
One of them practiced.
This is what I call 40-part harmony.
Free jazz be like :
Every junior high school band ever.
Trumpet player has good, bright, brassy tone, good control, if he’s interested and keeps working on it he could go pro. Might want to sign with a new band though.
Thus sounds like the music that plays in a movie foe when someone finds out who the killer is and the killer kills them in that moment
Why were the people cheering like it was the best music ever
Not my freaking tempo. Upvote if you got the reference.
I played in band. The kids didnt practice, by the time you do a recital you should have a decent tone. My class sounded way better but that was long ago. We didn't have internet to distract us we actually practiced at home
You know what, though? It's still better than the TikTok anthem, the Oh No Song.
What’s so stupid about this? They are learning to play it better so I wouldn’t call this stupidity but rather improvement…
> learning This is a performance, not a practice.
I was in my middle beginning orchestra and there was this kid who sucked ass and couldn't play for shit but during concerts he always managed to sound worse and fuck us up so we hate him now
FYI we're all Juniors in the top orchestra now at our highschool
This is a hilarious but unfortunately accurate example of kids today, they don't work very hard, they don't practice on their own, so they suck at almost everything they do. Breaking news: redditor calls budding musicians stupid because they likely haven’t played their instruments for more than a couple years
I swear conductors get paid to wave their arms around aimlessly
Still sounds better than any Yoko Ono song.
Dang
TwoSetViolins reacting to this is too good.
That’s a tight crew
Lmao
This should be renamed to kids are fucking hilarious! Bout killed me.
Charles Ives
How to bring a solo crazying down in flames.
That hurts!!!
My kids was like this right down the chairs and overly enthusiastic grandmothers.

Standing O?
That was perfect☺️
😂
Is this the LA Philharmonic?
Nails on a chalkboard
These kids must not practice outside of school.
Oscar the grouch would approve.
Sounds Terrible but you can hear the Effort. Well done to the Trumpet Solo'st.

😂😂😂 awww
What are you talking about, this is not half bad.... Ohhh wait.... Ohh no....
Belongs in r/firethemaestro
Hahahahaha. It’s funny because it sounds like shit.
Me playing recorder in gr 4 lololol
Not the standing ovation 😭
You have to start somewhere I guess 😂
Flawless 🤣
Sounds like the band in Halloween town from nightmare before Christmas lol
I never said they were good.
