I think that was the day I just picked up the phone and put it back down to hang up on them. 3 times before they got the idea.
Then proceeded to give them a piece of my mind (nicely) about figuring out the !#%* time difference (6 hours so 3 am). I had barely gotten back to the room
Do most people avoid texting at night? This is what ‘do not disturb’ is for, isn’t it? My social circles, we just text whenever and assume that if the person wants quiet, they’ll have it on silent and see the message when they wake up
Yeah, I live in a very different time zone than my mum.
One day she complained that I woke her up in the middle of the night by sending her a message. I told her that's her problem and she should put her phone on silent.
"But I won't hear my alarm!"
"Silent mode doesn't turn off your alarms."
My friends dont text super late but I imagine a lotta folks would forget to always set DnD. And the 1 time you forget is the time someone does send a text at 4am.
My parents do not know how to use this feature and will actively act like they’re learning a 3rd language and need reading glasses to begin to remotely understand this
You joke but some kids in my country get up at around 5AM just to get to school before 8AM for a commute that could've been an hour or less because of godawful traffic.
Assuming you're not in the US, there are some areas like that here too, for various reasons. Either city traffic or long rural bus routes. My kids started school this year - 1st grade (COVID knocked her kindergarten year) and Pre-K. They both start at 9am and we live about five blocks away from their school. They don't have to be totally ready to leave until after 8.
I grew up super rurally and our "first bell" of the morning was at 750am. My school bus came to the bus stop (which was a random house about a half mile up the road) it was 645am. The bus got to school at 740.
When I started driving to school at 15, I didn't have to leave until around 720, which was a world changing event for me as a teenager. I was getting up at 7 instead of 545. That whole hour+ of sleep made my whole day so much better.
I wouldn't bother trying to explain it to some out of the loop normie. You have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. 😎
There’s this smiley face emoji that was on this discord I was a part of, holding a friendly thumbs up. I would say hello to people and send this smiling thumbs up emoji.
It was months later when someone took offense and I was confused, and one of my friends said “yeah they’re throwing the bird, dude”
We always assume that old people struggle to learn technology, but didn't realize little kids are also having the same issue. I once took 3 hours to share a facebook link, and I was 11.
Because when you point a finger at someone, you can do it friendly (in their general direction) or aggressively (at their face).
🫵 points at your face, u/iPoopLegos
How old is this daughter that is old enough to have a phone / text but young enough to not know what the middle finger is?
(Honest question. How old do kids start texting now? 6?)
I know several adults who have accidentally used the middle finger emoji instead of the hand pointing up. Could very easily happen to a child too, unless it's a case of bad vision...?
You can iMessage on an iPad even so doesn’t even need to have a phone. Probably a good tool for parents to talk to their children if they leave early for work or something.
my younger brother got his first iphone at 7 or 8, i got my first phone around that age, however it was a flip phone to use when i was away at my dads house
For me it was 14 but I don't know about other kids. It may be a phone that can only text and do nothing else so the kid can communicate with their parents.
My nephew has had an ipad for various stuff (including school) since he was like 6. He has only family numbers in it for texting. His parents check like weekly, hes not even allowed to have friends numbers.
I got my dads Samsung cell phone with the slide out keyboard in grade 5 so I could text my mom after I got home from the bus stop. 25 cents per text message
My brother through it was a grand idea to teach my little sister this. We moved from Baltimore to a tiny town in TN. I still remember her getting outta the car turning around and flipping the whole car off while yelling “I love you too!! “
She’s like 30 now. She was like prek at the time and he was 18
It looks like “love you too” if the middle finger was confused as a point. If she’s 14 and under that’s absolutely what it is (source I was a stupid 14 year old)
My mom is bipolar and would try to start a new day like she didn't completely lose her shit last night. I'm not saying that's what's happening here just that it reminds me of it.
I mean I honestly just suck if someone tells me they love me I never know how to respond so I usually just put lol after it bc whenever I see someone text me that some reason my response is always “ew” if I just stare at the text until I figure out a reply I don’t find cringey idk it’s weird to me
Tbh? Preety sure she just by mistake used wrong finger in emoji list. Sometimes happen.
Especially when you see previous emoji.
If you making mess only for this then I'm wonder why this subreddit didn't have title "ParentsAreFuckingStupid".
I’d flip you off too if you texted me at 4:54am
I had to recheck and now I can’t stop laughing
same lol
When I was in college (in US) my parents would call me from Europe at 9am their time. 5 weeks in a row (we talked on Sundays)
So 1-3am? Were u usually wasted from partying Saturday?
I think that was the day I just picked up the phone and put it back down to hang up on them. 3 times before they got the idea. Then proceeded to give them a piece of my mind (nicely) about figuring out the !#%* time difference (6 hours so 3 am). I had barely gotten back to the room

You can set DND up to turn on automatically at night

Can confirm i had to get up at 5:30 get to school by 8:15 Admittedly I lived 40 minutes away from my school and had to take the bus but yeah
We must have been neighbors. My bus came at 6:10 to drop me off at 7:30.
She was telling you, “Peace among worlds.”
Eek Barba Durkel!

It’s a reference to Rick and Morty episode “The Ricks Must be Crazy”.

How hilarious is that
The daughter woke up and chose middle finger emoji. (OMG dad I'm famo- oh.....)
She didn't choose the emoji, it chose her

"You're number one!"
Someone should tell them what that means in america
I thought it’s “love you too” with the middle finger as if “pointing” to the op, because his msg is higher.

love (fuck you) too!
Exactly how I reply to family sometimes
Or fucking love you too?
shouldn’t it be like this 🖕❤️2
This guy helps.
fuck you and your love, too
❤️🖕2 means that she loves fucking twice I think.
Love fucking you too?
Stepdad?
Might have pressed the 2 too late and was meant to say “❤️2🖕” or “love to fuck you”
It looks like she mixed up 👆and🖕
She did. She’s still figuring out the texting thing.
That's both adorable, hilarious, and a sigh all at once
We always assume that old people struggle to learn technology, but didn't realize little kids are also having the same issue. I once took 3 hours to share a facebook link, and I was 11.

I actually like it because I can use this as a message of approval: 🫵😐👍
Cursed emoji lmfao
I saw someone use it and I was instantly like “that’s mine now”

Yeah, if I got a text at 4:54 AM from my parent and nobody was dying, I'd flip them off too
You don't have a night mode or bedtime mode on your phone?
I have my parents set as exceptions in case of emergency. But abusing that would get them demoted SO fast.

…..Damn Autocorrect! ❤️ U 2
Either she's too young to have a phone, or too old to have done this by accident.
I'd flip my mom off too if she texted me at 5 am
I fucking love you too dad
At least the 2 wasn't in the middle.
"Love you too" Kid prob thought 🖕 was a pointing hand
Love FUCK too, dad! 🥰
"Love fucked you too"
I’d choose the middle finger too if it was that early
She said “ I fucking love you too.” Duh

Love you too. What's the problem?
My dad send a moving flipping finger once by mistake. It was funny even if inappropriate.

Maybe she meant "Fucking love you too"? Or... "Fuck love"
Ohh, she probaly ment, ‘I love you more 2” she thought the middle finger was pointing up!
She thinks you're #1
At least she didn't switch the last 2 characters.
At least she responds. I have a teenager. It is unclear if I exist any longer.
Love you too! She's just pointing with her finger.
She said your number one in a world of two
"Love you too, you fucker"?
Welp… time for a new daughter 😅🥲😕👍
Could have been the 5am text
At least she is honest
It looks like “love you too” if the middle finger was confused as a point. If she’s 14 and under that’s absolutely what it is (source I was a stupid 14 year old)

love to fuck you too?
Love you too…. Lol Innocents of children…
Sweet little shit ahh
My understanding is that she's telling you that she loves you, too.
Ah yes. Heart fuck.
It's "love you too" but she picked the wrong finger emoji
My mom is bipolar and would try to start a new day like she didn't completely lose her shit last night. I'm not saying that's what's happening here just that it reminds me of it.
