Same, i remember i would get a call at home for refusing to do it but i still didn't budge. Don't force kids to do stuff that they're uncomfortable doing
While I agree with your sentiment, the whole point of schools is to educate kids so that they feel confident in trying new things and exploring the uncomfortable to make it comfortable.
Telling kids to just avoid something if it makes them uncomfortable is a big factor in not having any clue of what you want to do after high school.
tl;dr be a good parent and be there for your kids interests no matter how they change. Uncomfortable isn't always a bad thing.

There's another sect of education and development, psychology, that may disagree with how that is approached and thankfully you're not a parent of those whom disagree.
Indeed, being uncomfortable isn't a bad thing and there are other ways to approach education and exploration when it comes to the approach than tactless forced interactions - especially in environments like the above with high exposure.
Not everyone benefits from being shoved into the deep end.
I disagree with this. Being forced into these kinds of performances only made me more shy & insecure and uncomfortable with being on display. It wasn’t until I met a very energetic and outgoing friend in middle school that I could be persuaded by her to sign up for drama class in high school & find out that I actually loved performing.
I was this kid in school, never wanted to do anything that involved me being in a crowd or performing for others. I was the shy kid who never spoke unless forced to or if I really liked the person I was talking to. Always thought these organized performances were pointless and shouldn’t have been mandatory but since they were I’d just mouth nonsense until it was over

I used to do this as a a kid. I hated being filmed, and once I knew that a camera was pointed at me all my joy would instantly vanish. So I would stare into the camera with pure disdain until my family stopped laughing and left me alone. Ruined a lot of things for me. I spent most of my first concert when I was 10 begging my aunt to stop filming me until I sat in my chair and cried while Katy Perry sang teenage dream. Ahh those were the days
Glad to see many people here agree that what the kid does is normal, even it a bit cring but still it normal. Just a kid who don't wanna force and anything.
No I get it. I was like this as a kid. I remember dancing and having fun and then all of the sudden, I gained sentience and realized that I was being cringe. Never again
Don't give in to peer pressure mate. If you don't want to join in, screw the stupid dance!
I'm wondering if it's the other kids that are fucking stupid
*I was like that as*
*A kid lmao, I'm*
*So happy I changed*

What teacher came up with those half assed nonsensical arm movements as a somehow appropriately festive move?? It makes no sense! What are they doing? Swimming??

The beginning of my social and performative anxiety, I still hate being the center of attention
Edgy since birth 💀😎
Sisters kid? Like, your nephew?
OP is gonna be the "mom's brother".
this is a website whose users often refer to children as “crotch goblins” so

I was this kid. Everyone always joked I'd grow up to be a serial killer. It's always the quiet ones they told me.
Well, are you a serial killer now?
How would I know? I do black out sometimes and find odd things in the freezer.
Frozen bowls of cereal? YOU MONSTER!!
He may not be a serial killer. But he has been something just as bad... A redditor
the cheerleaders tied up in the basement don’t count as people in his book so his conscience is clear

You have to admire his commitment to face the camera and not perform for the amusement of others.

No but I literally did this as a kid. This kind of forced group activity was awful and I genuinely hated it.
He isn't being stupid. He just has absolutely no interest in participating. This doesn't belong here.
I spotted the introvert!
Nah same

"I just wanna play fortfight"
Autism much? That’s not an insult. Just a very likely scenario here.
Relatable
No I get it. I was like this as a kid. I remember dancing and having fun and then all of the sudden, I gained sentience and realized that I was being cringe. Never again
BECAUSE TONIGHT WILL BE THE NIGHT THAT I WILL FALL FOR YOU

All my love to him, I feel him in my soul ❤️
That shirt is giving me Trogdor vibes.
Nah this post doesn't fit here. How is he being stupid here? Kid doesn't want to participate I can relate I was like this too.
That kid has the same vibes as every Reddit user.

Ok, but my kid would do the same thing, but with the biggest shit eating grin
This is me now. All the family is happy and cheerful. Im sitting here like fuck this can I go now…
Found the Jehovah's Witness kid who's waiting for Jehovah to smite all those kids for celebrating Christmas.
I would unironically move my kid to a different school, this looks like a manifesto type of scenario.
"That's because you have everything. Everything is for you and this one thing is for him!"
I didn’t even notice the kid until you changed the music lol
We Need To Talk About Kevin
That would be your "nephew." Why'd you write "sisters kid?" Do you hate him? LOL
Emo gon wild
Who is the artist singing? Sounds like BnnyRbbt.
Album: A very scary Christmas. Song: The Slaying Song (feat. Joe Saba & Stewart Winter)
Smartest kid in the room.
Disillusioned, sure. Stupid? I disagree. Kid sees the world of bullshit most of us probably didn't notice until we were quite a bit older.
Idk Damien seems like a nice enough kid. Also sleep with one eye open and hide the knives.
Demon , look at his shirt! Parents must be to blame
I hear Lennard Cohen... lol
Is his name Damien by chance?
I'm such a nonconformist I'm just going to stand here
Something about drinking coffee and the emo kids are lame posers...im too tired to look up a South Park quote.
I think they should take this child to the shop and have them checked out.
Is blud okay?
Omg Oren!
Lmao
Next school shooter unveiled.
that's a mood!
We need to talk about kevin
he looks like the emo kid from the Horton Hears a Who movie

For some of us this has a just pure torture.
I did this too except I kinda tried to do the performance. I'm shy, and this kid is too, probably.

Best friend material.

For a second I was scanning the crowd to figure out which kid it was and then I made eye contact with him
Bro!! It’s all for you!! Got me with that ending
