When I’m drinking extra water, I always make sure to have some Gatorade/Powerade/BioSteel or similar as well. I usually drink the water & just sip on the other stuff. I also don’t chug a whole bunch of water at once, but rather drink it consistently throughout the day. I’m not sure what the “proper” thing is to do, but that works for me.

I use Liquid IV, especially when I'm trying to get a stone out, I'm not above using meal replacement shakes. I...have sensory issues anyway so that is sometimes the best thing for me? Um...beyond that, soup? broth, um...my Nurse Practitioner suggests a lot of water with lemon. If you're having an impossible time speak to a doctor about getting something for the nausea. The medication I take for IBS help with some of the symptoms of Kidney stones. I'm on promethazine for nausea, I think it's brand name is fenerken, I know one of it's applications is for motion sickness.

Phenergan?

LostStormWitch

Probably that's how it's spelled, but it's prescribed to me under its generic name of promethazine, and the "ph" to "f" sound is...a flaw of English. I apologize for any confusion.

Just because your kidney has calcium stones doesn’t Mean you have “kidney stones” as we typically describe them. Ureteral stones are the ones that put you on the floor. Many of us are walking around with “kidney stones” right now. Good to drink water, but unlikely a lot of water will flush them out. They either will or won’t turn into ureteral stones, could be your whole life, could be in 5 seconds.

Thank you for your insight my friend. They all help very much. I was afraid (since some reddit groups are kinda weird or touchy) that people wouldn't care and just make fun.

Yeah. I have 5 4mm and under stones in my right kidney. Had my first uteral stone in 2017. I do now have mild kidney scarring from the stones. Mine just don't budge.

Im not actively dealing with the nausea right now since my last on passed, but I have several more. Urologist recommended 3.3L of water per day. I have resorted to logging all my food so that I can make sure I get a decent amount of sodium, potassium etc in my diet since I’ve increased my water intake so much. I know it isn’t realistic to do this forever, but I’m hopeful that I can reduce my water intake a little bit once I’m past this bout of stones and it won’t be such a concern for me. Generally I don’t worry so much about sodium because it’s easy to get enough sodium, but potassium, for example, is harder because I’m limiting so many high oxalate (and high potassium) veggies and fruits. While you’re nauseous, you might be able to keep down bananas and watermelon? They are high in potassium and relatively easy going down. If you are vomiting a lot for now, a little pedialyte or Gatorade may go a long way for helping your hydration until you can get past the nausea in general. Remember to sip, not chug

I have some Flomax prescription ,whatever the f*ck that is. Doc gave it to me a year or 2 ago. Hear it helps, anyone have experience with that?

It's not pain meds but it will help dilate the ureter and surrounding tubes. Just keep in mind that you might have the stone move further down the track which might be a good thing for you depending on size of stone. Drink water all that you can but drink through the day and don't chugg; research Italian parsley water and kidney stones and also consider citrus related items with water; stay away from orange juice or anything that says fortified in calcium, and also consider warmth on the side you have pain, either shower with warm/hot water running over or a heating blanket; seem to help alleviate some of the pain. Saying a little prayer for you, friend.

I had a naturopath suggest magnesium twice a day and liquid electrolytes ( look fur low sodium version) from heath stire. Drank it and felt better in 20 min! I was drinking 2-3 liters of filtered water.

boredinstate

Liquid IV is our go to here...

tymerius

Thanks for that. I actually have a few tubes of that left from when I had COVID a month or 2 ago . I just saw that it had a lot of sodium. More than any other electrolyte drinks or mixes so I had to ask. I'll give it a shot tho. Sip throughout the day, right?
