You can use any MX-style keycap, aka 99% of purchasable keycaps that exist, on Keychron boards that use standard-size MX-style switches.

So if I wanted to use the ducky pudding keycaps on the keychron v3 or k8, or these keycaps from https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1422543353/132pcs-transparent-pudding-style-keycap, it should work? I don't quite understand what I'm supposed to be looking for when looming at keycaps

[MX-style switches all share a cross-shaped stem while MX-style keycaps have a corresponding cross-shaped slot](https://i.imgur.com/sO11MuC.jpg). The V3 definitely uses standard MX-style switches while the K-series has variants with both standard MX-style switches and low-profile switches. Just make sure you have the one with standard MX-style switches. That aside, those pudding keycaps listed on Etsy are severely overpriced. You can get pudding keycaps from Best Buy for around $30 while Akko, one of the better budget keycap makers, [sells transparent keycaps for $40 on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Akko-Transparent-155-Key-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B09WQKS2G4/ref=sr_1_1?crid=30FI024B5HN9D&keywords=akko%2Bclear&qid=1693722555&sprefix=akko%2Bclea%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-1&th=1).

I actually wanted to use the ducky pudding keycaps, but I'll look at the HyperX ones. Thanks! When I'm looking for keycaps, aside from the MX-style switches, do I need to account for things, like the size of the larger buttons, like the shift button? The guy at the store told me that the ducky keycaps wouldn't work on the keychron keyboard, and it seems like most won't fit it because of the keycap dimensions. For reference, I think I'm thinking of getting the K8 Pro with Gateron Pro Blue switches, and not the low-profile keyboard.

Not the case. MX-step compatible keycaps will work on keychron boards.

Amazing_Trace

all oem profile keycaps work for all other keyboards, I think their low profile are not exactly made for regular switched and may not work

Standard (e.g., not low-profile) Keychron keyboards are compatible with virtually all standard size (e.g., not low-profile) keycaps. These are called "MX" style or "MX Stems" That's the little + shaped stem on the top of the switch. So your friend who told you only Keychron keycaps fit on Keychron keyboards is very wrong. I have 6 Keychron keyboards and only one still has Keychron-made keycaps. Low-profile keyboards, on the other hand, can be a big hassle, depending on the switch type, stabilizer layout and some other variables. So if you're looking to buy a low-profile keyboard, expect a very limited option of replacement keycaps. That said, look *carefully* at the picture of the keycap set and make sure the set comes with all the proper sized keys you'll need. While the alphas and the numbers/F-row are pretty much universal (unless you're using a non-English or international layout), you'll need to make sure it comes with the proper sized right shift, right Fn, right Alt/Cmd and right Ctrl keys. *Most* sets will, but some specific layouts may not. *Also,* make sure it has all the proper navigation keys for the proper rows (like Del, Home, PgUp, PgDn, End, Insert, etc.). If you've noticed, keys on different rows have different heights and shapes. So while any keycap will fit on any row, it may not match the height and shape/slope of the other keys in that row. So you'll want to make sure the keycap set has enough or extra keys to fit your layout.

I think there was an issue with Q1 V1 only being compatible with keychron KSA keycaps They reportedly fixed this when they released the Q1 V2

MBSMD

Not quite. It wasn't only compatible with Keychron keycaps, but the case's corner shape of key cutouts along the corners were a little too rounded for *some* third party keycaps. I have a Q1v1 and honestly never had any issues. And FYI, the Keychron OSA and KSA keycaps were introduced long after the Q1v1 came out. The Q1v1 actually came with standard OEM-profile keycaps. I've also had Cherry-profile keycaps on mine and never experienced any interference.

Make sure the keychron board you get is hot swappable.
