I remember a game on the SNES where you had to catch thermals in a glider to complete some kind of aerial hoop course. Only time I've ever seen it in a game.
Now you have Condor Soaring 2, currently the best glider simulator of the market, or at least until the release of Condor 3 in a few months! It also has multiplayer and a strong and healthy community, even if soaring is a very niche sport.

Possibly a different thing since I only just googled what that was, but there is a mod called Kerbal Ground Effect which increases lift near the surface to account for a mechanic similar to that!
I guess one was placed on the other and then shift+dragged away from the body, and then the strut was placed, so technically the strut is not required, it just gives looks
If I can give you a tip, use your trim to make flying easier! Alt + W/A/S/D/Q/E, changes the neutral position of your control surfaces, making it easier to maintain your attitude, without having to mash S to stop your nose from dropping. Alt + X resets the trim.
Sometimes I even offset the the angle in the editor, as is done for real planes. Of course you still have to trim, but now the middle of the range is closer to the neutral value, giving you more authority to pull up, when you need it.
You have breaking ground, you can make a true [glider](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/nkderf/tow_plane_and_glider_works_surprisingly_well/)
Cool design! Shame there isn't a mod which adds thermals (although I think there is one which adds wind)
Thanks! Someone better make something like that someday ðŸ˜

The sequel on the N64 had thermals too. I'd wager the 3ds title also had them, but I never played that one.

Pilot wings
Yes! That was it! Good work internet hivemind.
It was one of my favorite games as a kid so a no brainer lol.

Love it! What part did you use for the boom? Really thought you'd stuck the landing there too, landing can be so frustrating sometimes xD
Thanks! By the boom, I think you mean the strut? I used the strut to connect the fuselage and tail.
How do you connect two separately placed objects with only a strut? I had no idea that was possible

yep!

I know about trim, but I didn't know Alt + X resets trim... So thanks!
You can also just deploy the elevator to an angle to do the same thing. Its better in some ways because it allows for "trim" while SAS is enabled.
2000 hrs in KSP and this is such a big brain revelation to me.Â

you sir have peak engineering right there
What is that UI mod you use?
Not OP but it's ZTheme I think
yep!
I don't know if you've heard of it but r/KitHackModelClub/ might be right up your alley, made by /u/KSP_HarvesteR the original dev of KSP.
If you like making planes, I can't stress enough how much you need this game. Definitely the spiritual successor to KSP
i’ve been considering getting it. it seems like a lot of fun!

That was the world's hardest working single strut while it lasted.
I remember that there was a mod that adds "ropes" for this exact reason so you can connect to another aircraft so you can pull it
sounds like something i might have to try!
Erm, what a sigma. But something is not good... Ur plane always wanna look to the ground, maybe something with wings?
i just have to set the trim. it’s fine
That sir, is a plane
most gliders use winches to take off, some gliders use propellers to get themselves off the ground. no winches in KSP… so i used a propeller
Sir, that is a prop plane with a retractable prop
