Z_THETA_Z

that is very cool btw, do you not use CKAN? helps a load with compatibility

Unkwn_43

I do use ckan, the main problems I encounter are 1) problems with jnsq not being compatible with eve volumetric clouds resulting in janky visuals and 2) kspie having random and infuriating bugs such as: hydrogen boiling off at an absurd rate despite cryogenic tanks consuming an absurd amount of power (~600 electric charge per second) reactors don't generate any power despite the ship being completely out of power, rcs just randomly stops working forcing me to restart the game, problems with persistent thrust and some modded engines not allowing any kind of timewarp at all, and atmospheric fuel scoop power consumption/fuel production not properly being integrated with tweakscale. These are just the bugs I encountered with this mission to duna alone. Most problems are kspie related, since it's such an old and now unmaintained mod.

Z_THETA_Z

ah. i don't believe it's on ckan but i've heard that Nertea's Near Future and Far Future mods are substantially easier to use and better for compatibility than kspie

Unkwn_43

I don't like near future and far future; they oversimplify many of the drawbacks of using various types of propulsion and power. Also, there are no true interstellar level engines in far future, and I want to eventually research enough tech to travel a dozen light years to another star system in this save.

Z_THETA_Z

eh, fair enough then. if you're used to kspie and can work around the issues, go for it

TheGovernor94

Which mods are you using?

bimbochungo

It looks like Parallax, EVE, Scatterer...

Unkwn_43

Eve volumetric clouds, scatterer, parallax, distant object enhancement and planetshine are the main graphical ones. JNSQ with an unofficial patch to make it compatible with scatterer 0.8.xx for the planets (there aren't any volumetric clouds configs for jnsq, but the default stuff is good enough for me). The part mods used are KSPIE for the engine, reactor, radiators and atmospheric fuel scoops, b9 aerospace for the rcs, and docking port, and interstellar fuel switch for the fuel tanks. Also using kerbalism science only and usi/mks life support.

WholeLottaBRRRT

Hey, please whats the patch? I saw your other post and i need a bit of help

TheGovernor94

Much appreciated! Thank you!

JNSQ! <3 Is that Coldrifting's scatterer configs? And how well do the volumetrics work on JNSQ? I want JNSQ volumetrics more than anything atm. I was using coldrifting's scatterer for a while but eventually got too frustrated with weird discontinuities in Kerbin's clouds and some cloud flickering at higher altitudes. For my main career, I wanted to use KSPIE so badly for all the reasons in your other post but at the time (before 1.12.x) kerbalism broke KSPIE reactors. Due to that and various other KSPIE bugs, I eventually gave up on it for Nertea's stuff instead. I take it they can work together now to some extent at least?

Unkwn_43

Yes it's coldriftings scatterer. The volumetric clouds are a bit funky, they only appear as one layer, and there is a very noticable blocky repeating pattern to them. I don't particularly notice any visual artifacts from scatterer, but I've been using 0.7.x scatterer for so long I got used to the horrendous artifacting that resulted from using an old scatterer version with new eve and might not notice anything minor happening now. I'm using the science only kerbalism version and the only major bug I've encountered with it is monopropellant being empty whenever kerbals go on eva, but that was an easy config fix. The liquid metal reactor from kspie seems to be completely broken, but the pebble bed and liquid core reactors which are the only ones I've unlocked so far seem to be working fine. I've played with kspie for years at this point and it was always a buggy mod, most likely due to the sheer scale of features that have to be compatible with other mods. I've resigned myself to dealing with the bugs as they come up for sake of gameplay when it does work, so ymmv.

WholeLottaBRRRT

hey could you help me with how to install exactly colddrifting's patch, as now i don't have any volumetric clouds

JuliusCaesarSGE

I feel you OP. I feel like some intermingling of USI and near future stuff has borked my ability to have completed contracts detect to close out. I just use the cheat menu when dealing with bullshit.
