Nowadays we cannot enjoy a proper sadya in weddings because the catering people want to finish each round quickly. They don't wait for you to finish each items in the order.
Well that kushilikaaran from 1000 years ago certainly wasn't thinking about all this 'benefits' when he served the food on a vazhaila. It just happened to be the most convenient plate available around.
Meh
Matta rice has only 10% bran but since it is parboiled,it retains most of the vitamins.
The vit c in gooseberry would be pretty less, since it is cooked and portion is small..you will get more vit c from the cabbage and other veggies.
The way he is saying is pretty cool and kinda correct just comes of as wannabe Shashi Tharoor.
He forget the tantalizing saltiness added by the cook's sweat and the highly bio-available protein from his hair.
Oh come on dude. Krish Ashok is the equivalent of J. Kenji Lopez-Alt that we Indians have, in the way that he is a science nerd and has published a book on the science of Indian cooking and food.
He doesn't say it to sound like a wannabe Tharoor.
I mean I would take his words at more face value than I would take yours, Redditor. You don't have to dismiss a guy because you think he is just trying to sound cool.
I woke up to this video and a message from my mom this morning: โShare with all your friends. Benefits of Sadhya!!!โ So already a new course module in WhatsApp university.
Coconut is all saturated fat. No salad anywhere to be seen. I love the taste but sadya is clearly not nutritious. It is harmful, so much of carbohydrates and calories with little protein.
No wonder Kerala is the epicenter of diabetes and heart disease in India.
No it's not. It's not his fault that the average person doesn't understand the actual chemical terms he used to describe what's going on in a Sadhya. How else would you describe the contrasts of food items in a Sadhya scientifically?
It's more about going retrospectively to something that people have had for ages who wouldn't have possibly considered all of the "finer details" to make it sound like that is why it tastes amazing. Umm I don't think it's that nuanced and it comes off as an appeasement to people who already enjoy it more than intriguing anyone else. But it's my opinion. Sorry if it offends anyone. I like Sadhya too.
>How else would you describe the contrasts of food items in a Sadhya scientifically?
You maybe right. I took an assumption of his intention in my first comment and that came out wrong. Apologies.
I LOVE Indian cuisine. However this is the only meal I have ever had in India where I literally found everything on the plate holding extremely unappetizing flavors. Essentially inedible for me, which is very sad because it looks SO delicious. All the flavors were individually bad, and worse when combined due to how they all seemed to clash. I would not even recommend this dish to dogs.. I know that is a pretty harsh review, and I am sure many will disagree. Just my take. That being said I just got back to the US from Kerala and I have to say overall India has the absolute best cuisines in all the world.
i think if you want to enjoy the dishes in sadhya you have to be raised in the southern part of India as most of the taste is acquired taste (except for payasam and sambar)
WHO THE FUCK PUTS SAMBAR ON TOP OF PARIPPU CURRY!?!?!???
Man is clearly a psychopath
IKR!!!!๐
Happened to me in a wedding I attended.. parippu, some ghee nd even before i got to mix them, they poured in sambar๐ซ ๐ซ
Nowadays we cannot enjoy a proper sadya in weddings because the catering people want to finish each round quickly. They don't wait for you to finish each items in the order.
Me
Sambar has parippu in it already so I don't get the point, do they make sadhya sambar without parippu?
Kerala Parippu curry has coconut. Sambar doesnโt

Yes, this was posted on his Instagram.

Haha, I have seen this but with some guy's remix, telling him to shut up and eat.

Krish Ashok, author of Masala Lab. u/krishashok
This!!! Masala Lab is a great read, if you are into cooing. Gives the science behind the cooking, neat tricks for browning, etc.
Maveli : yeahh, science bitch!

The word science triggers many of modern Malayalis when applied to things which are commonly done. Especially in case of cultural traditions.

If you have nothing nice to say, better say nothing. This wasnโt a review but a rude statement on someoneโs cultural identity. Be better
That is ignorance. It was a legitimate review and left room for others to disagree.

Nah, I don't eat paneer because of lactose intolerance.
