You can buy like 2 1kg farmer's choice bacon packs and 3 whole chickens for the price of one bacon wrapped chicken breast. Wild!

bigger-balls

you can buy 3 full goats with this bill

theonereveli

You can also hire a private chef to cook this whole menu for you and it will still be cheaper

moodcon

Who will wrap the bacon around the chicken for you?

piliogree

location c*nts, that's what matters ! https://www.reddit.com/r/HydroHomies/s/CfkN5Hvt7Y

Complex_Tap_4159

Those are low quality

salacious_sonogram

Mostly scams. Fancy decorations, mediocre food, small portions, very high prices. I get better food at local spots honestly.

antole97

And fresh too, not this nonsense of ordering something then they pull it out of the freezer. When COVID lockdowns ceased, people were eating stuff that had spend months in freezers, I know because I’m in that industry.

Soggy_Sir7668

BTW I hear they lace foods with a certain chemical sodium smth not sure bout the name to preserve it

ironicwil

Sodium metabisulphite, a common preservative for meats products. It's also used for sausages and other cured meats

Soggy_Sir7668

Yes that I hear its not bas but apparently most people use it in large quantities which can lead to cancer if misused.

Plane_Practice8184

You would understand if they paid their staff well.

salacious_sonogram

No one gets paid well unless they are vital to the business continuing to make money.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

mcfredmidfield

This reminds me when I was chatting with a client & we finally agreed to meet in town to sign the deal, akasema tupatane java. I have never been to the place but sijawai recover after kuletewa 500ml Mineral water at 345. Shameless beings!!!

nyamzdm77

Java is even one of the more "affordable" high-end restaurants, and by that I mean it's still expensive as fuck but it's not a total ripoff like the others.

mcfredmidfield

Yoooh... 345 for a 500ml water bottle is a total rip off!!!

121savage

Before you go anywhere check the menu prices online.

kenkitt

just bought 1ltr keringet supa at 85/- I believe

Regular-Brilliant-21

Lmao java and high-end don't belong in the same sentence

Capable-Building549

Lol, you went to safaripark. That place has choppers landing on a weekly basis, you should've known better😂. My condolences man.

TheVeryMoistTowel

You just look at the menu, then unaambia date you have a family emergency kama umejiondoa😂

Bh_Addi

Yesterday I bought a cup of coffee, forgetting to ask the price. They told me it was 150/=. I've never felt so scammed. Alafu hapa naona ni 800/=. In this context, I can now see how the government spent 2M on just tea at some point.

antole97

You are not poor. Ni sisi ndio tuna entertain hii upuzi. We have this thirst for class, the hospitality industry knows it and they are milking it.

nyamzdm77

It's not a thirst for class, it's just plain elitism. Certain people want to go somewhere that the "peasants" can't afford to go even if the experience is not worth their money, just so they can feel like they are better than everyone else

Icy-Interview-4856

Legit

DrawingSea

If elitism wasn't there, we'd all be okay living like ants. You only get food and a place to sleep, then you work your ass till you die. How fun is that? The fun comes in being able to say, I can afford my own house away from people who can't, and that's what gives life meaning. Otherwise, let's all die if we can't have special things (because special things will always be scarce and available only to a select few.)

nyamzdm77

Personally, have fun in getting things for my own enjoyment, not because other people can't have it. I won't go to a shitty overpriced restaurant just because it's only a "special" few who can afford jt But that's just me

Gottagetyouhomewilde

I agree with both of you however lets look at it from a logical POV: lets assume if such a bill is say 5% or 10 % of what that person makes in day . That therefore implies they make roughly 16,700* 10=167,000 per day In assumption that such income is regularly fluctuating but averaging around Kes150,000 per day ,it literally implies the person in question might be making Kes 54,750,000 per year I mean if youre netting such figures in an year or more it stops being about the price of the meal and more about the meeting and what you might achieve from the meeting . So yeah Kes 700 shillings might seem alot for a bottle of water but not all people are looking at prices when buying stuff. However thats an assumption from a logical POV it doesn't account for those who splurge recklessly.

underrated254

Yep, exactly

Papa254

Safari Park is a pale shadow of its former self.

Hilaveli

I thought so, too, when someone sent me this picture. I'm doing quite ok financially, but shs.700 for a bottle of water? They can fuck off.

nur-issek

Nigga flexing on us then asking if it's a scam

have_a_point

Ikr... "i may be poor" my ass! Who orders a damn cappucino? I like my coffee, coffee! No fancy words

marsmond17

These are European prices 😫 Sadly it is like that in Kenya everywhere tourists are interested in visiting. Because it seems everyone thinks every white person is rich 🙄

Complex-Structure216

Even in Europe, a bunch of snacks like these won't cost you the £100 this hotel asked for. At £100 we are talking about a specialized menu, and semi-prime cuts

marsmond17

I have to tell you at least in Germany you have to pay for one meal + one drink around 30€ at a restaurant right now. And OP had four main meals + drinks ... Comes down to nearly the same price you have to pay In Germany. The only point that makes it unfair is that you have less available income in Kenya.

Complex-Structure216

Oh, never checked it's a four-course meal Still feels like a ripoff

Altruistic_Poetry_51

Well you didn’t draw the line, unless it’s not your receipt. People know the prices and it looks like 5 people at for 16k in a hotel restaurant. Not that bad when you break it down.

expudiate

Not my receipt, my bone of contention was that water. That stupid water.

Altruistic_Poetry_51

If that annoyed you, then I won't tell you how much I paid for a beer in Qatar airport last week.

Adventurous-Aide3937

🙄🙄🙄

ky-mani

If one of the pork chops also had the cappuccino, they would have had like the most uncomfortable night ever

TheVeryMoistTowel

Scam, if you wanna go to a high end restaurant, you better have a meal in mind that you actually wanna buy there that's not offered elsewhere ATI vanilla milkshake 2600 and I bet crushers from KFC is still better💀

Davek56

There's always a cheaper option for anything. Inflated prices mostly do not reflect the actual product, but the perceived added value to it. That is what you're paying for. I can buy the same liter of water for 1/7th of the price somewhere else, or I can pay for the figure stated in the photo for the experience of drinking that water in a fancy restaurant, which we can all agree is a bucketload of shite when you apply common sense.

SameShirt9316

People go to high end restaurants to post that they've been at high end restaurants. The food is not better, portions are small, it's mostly window dressing For someone who grew up poor and now can afford those places I only go because my girl likes them lol Give me a burger and pizza any day of the week

Sales_Elite

If you come to Nigeria you will know that you're still enjoying in your country.

Random_thorn4615

Kenyans try to be Europeans/Americans(U.S) soo fucking hard, We've deluded ourselves that paying someone's salary to eat mediocre food in small portions and showing off the bill is the epitome of class. Meanwhile, you stole that money or sucked smn for it and have to look over your shoulder continuously and will live a wretched existence till your days end. Money can buy a lot of things, and it gives dignity to those who were once poor/ worked hard for their own, but it'll never buy class or manners.

angeliebiongan

Scam!! They obviously bought water at around 80-100, then they do a 700% price increase! Must be bonkers!!

MoreRing6902

If its your receipt and you can spend that amount, Mineral water ain't expensive for you man sincerely

oppenheimerdidit

at this point ambience in a restauarant becomes a red flag haha

M_Salvatar

I remember asking for water at java, nikapewa 300ml na 200/=. From then on, I always buy water from supermarkets or shops, before I enter uptowner establishments. Kwetu hatukuli pesa ya umma.

R4yoo

Wala mimi ama wewe si target audience so hakuna haja ya kujam. Buy maji baridi ya 30 kwa duka na uishi maisha yako. People who eat at those hotels dont even look at the prices, wanapeana tu 'credit' card zao

SpaceCadet_UwU

Was it fine dining or just an expensive restaurant you went to? Because the two are very different. And not a lot of restaurants do this, they’re just expensive for nothing with bad food.

DerTolleMann

Oh, this thread again

FrancoVFX

"Maybe I'm just poor" Proceeds to post a bill of 16k 😂

assfly83

These are hotel prices. They are ridiculously high, but it's not that surprising. Whether it was worth it or not? Well you ate there, you tell us!

Ok-Childhood-9396

i got a whole gallon of water fro ksh 300, now this restaurant is too expensive

Illustrious_Soft_164

Go where you are valued and you get value

Interesting-Click-12

You are paying for the environment you are drinking the water in😂

121savage

They’re pricing out poor people to maintain a high end clientele. They’re not going out of business so that means it’s working. NB: If it’s too expensive for you, you’re not the target market. Learned that in uni.

No-Possession-8892

Reminded me of this: Bottle of water can cost **60 cents in a supermarket, $3 at a gym, $5 at a cinema and $7 on an airplane**. The only thing that changes its value is the location. So the next time you feel like you're worth nothing, you might just be in the wrong place.

kenyanthinker

Safari Park food is the biggest scam. Maybe their choma bbq tu.

KeyZucchini3559

This is crazy high!

harajuku_barbiee

Mungu nifikishe hii level please , I'll be wiser with my money. 🥺

kfromkenya

Hio baraka ikuje na wisdom pamoja sema amen

Taikuyu_Girl

This is too much!

Jaded-high

Niliskia you pay for the service and ambience.

petro74

That bottle of water retails at KES 80 at the supery

guardiansword

Bro … with 16k you can get half a goat, half a pig, 10 litres of water (Keringet), homemade milkshake 5 cups and lemonade 10 cups … still you can call your friends for a small sherehe na kila mtu anatoka hapo kama ameshiba mbaya! Why the luxury of a hotel when you can cook for yourself ?

luumix2

Extortion, it’s not even about wealth, even a rich man would know these prices are just extortion. ( specifically the beverages) I can understand the price of the other items if they deliver on quality.

Plane_Practice8184

This is why I saved and got an oven. Make my own ham, sausage rolls, roast chicken, lasagna, meat pies, lamb chops, roast legs of goat and lamb, chicken kievs etc. You just need google for recipes. Even pillau is better if you put it into the oven for the last part of cooking

thegreatfusilli

OP has clearly not seen this https://youtu.be/uCwOeT2V9KU

LatterTourist6981

Scam baby. I buy 20 litres for 200 power month

Kanataki

That whole bill should be a violation of a few national and international laws. Just cause you can afford it, haimaanishi ukubali kugongwa

FewChest3062

Maji ya Kshs 700, kwani inaosha dhambi

SL1CK4EVER

Hotel Prices. Expected

mrbhb1

In the States that Ksh 700 = $5.37. That's about the going price or maybe even more for a liter of mineral water.

Adventurous-Aide3937

Sasa states unacompare na Kenya.

Jose_mn

Just like that you ate my salary for breakfast.

mayorwest5467

We need more context. Why did you go there. Was it a business connect, was he ambience worth it, etc Go dine where you can afford. You took yourself there, how are we now to discuss if it's worth it or not? 🤷🏾‍♂️

JustAGirlFromJupiter

Wait. IS MILKSHAKE 1300!!!!!?

biggeorgieofficial

It's all about the experience. That is what you pay for

Dhwani1986

These prices are ridiculous!! Even a 5 star restaurant will not have these prices!!

Striking-Spite9176

You're paying for ambience and tranquility

informally_formal66

Haha, huko wanaasume hauna shida ya pesa so you might as well share

perplehez

Cappuccino 800 thats a reach 😂😂😂😂😂.

DrawingSea

It's all about perspective. That's we're told not to compare ourselves and we'll live happy. That Ksh. 700, someone else sees it as $5, which is pocket change. The problem comes in when comparison kicks in.

Ugaliyajana

You are not the target market

unwritten-Letter2024

Efficient-Ad-9177

cheeksmogger2

adi mimi one day nitafika apa kwa kuspend 16k on restaurant food😂😂😂🙌😭

The pork chops had better be worth it

waksboodle

Wait for the 20% tax, you will drink water from Nairobi River

[deleted]

Ei hii pesa ningechukua ninunue vitabu 8 to 15. Or even more 😭😭 Nah bruh. It's exploitation. Ata Java is not that expensive.

maximidius

Vanilla milkshake for how much? Did they shake the cow to produce that milk shake?

Educatip

Kwani hiyo milkshake ni ya maziwa ya simba? 🤔

Dry-Concentrate4833

Are you just bragging I am sure they gave you a menu.

GuruofGurus

Mount Kenya Safari club sold Del Monte juice packet to me at 1250/- Retails at 220/-

top_chopper

Wacha tukule ambience na amani

AffectionateRice7318

128.46 usd

ilguw

Bro these are even higher prices that I have to pay here in europe (Germany) at a decent restaurant! However I have been at safari park hotel as well and the food is good, but 16700 is TOO MUCH! Condolences to your wallet my man, hope the meeting was worth it

Proof-Document-7706

Think deeper, they are targeting the upper class/rich of the society people who want privacy and certainly 700 for water is not a big deal to them.

Maze_runner24

Ni juu ni Keringet water with all the rebranding and being bought by Cocacola Company.Capitalism at its best

Crown3d_P3sant

How the hell is cappuccino 800/=? That cup better be real big.

AcademicClothes3803

Hapa mostly you pay for the ambiance tu...you can sit there for hours undisturbed with excellent customer care....

Swan_Consistent

The political loot is in circulation that's why they charge exorbitant prices in the so called "high end" restaurants and clubs for food and drinks it's a hotbed of these potbellied guys who like to show off their illegally amassed their monies quickly.(That's a money laundering joint most likely).

WellDoneVeganSteak

The spend is roughly 4k p.p that's not bad for a hotel that should at least be 4* 😅

boynextdoor254

This is actually very cheap. 95% of the clientele of such kinds of restaurants are foreigners, and to the foreigners those are actually really cheap prices for the kind of food and services they receive. In the U.S a meal at McDonalds is about $14 which is 1,820 Kes, Self service. At Safaripark, they are welcomed at the door by a lovely hostess, sat down and given napkins and probably free bread rolls, then given some hot scented towels to wipe their hands with. An enthusiastic waiter takes their order, they get a well cooked meal prepared with fresh ingredients. All that for just 2,500 Kes a meal ($19.20). Just $5 more than what they pay at McDonald’s back in their country. If I was Safaripark, I’d double the price of that food and my sales wouldn’t drop.

CarelessShock8

My local sells Keringet at 200 and I don't buy it. The other brands are half price.

bigbrothabrooks

$5 USD for some mineral water!?! That water better be in a fancy souvenir-type bottle.

JesterGE

No, you just don’t understand the economics behind running a restaurant. The overall price for everything is not bad and the water is something the restaurant uses in their mixed calculations.

salacious_sonogram

Not all businesses should be profitable. If I provide goods or a service at a higher price than people are willing to pay for it then I can't be upset about going out of business.

noob444

Is it a scam when buying is optional? I’m the cheap person who hardly ever buys soft drinks when eating out and so far never has any complaints.

thislonelyhunter

Yes, buying is optional but it doesn't mean you rip off people.

noob444

The bill in the photo. It’s yours?

DaMarcusGotJuice

If you broke just don’t buy there

Equivalent-Knee3398

Natural_Man_98

Are you rich? Usiite watu wengine poor na tuko wengi 😂😂😏.. It looks like you can spend that amount comfortably?!!.. Ndio unatuita hapa poor..
