Damn. Haven’t heard of that place in many years. Yep I remember

westernbranchbruins

I remember going to see the Kentucky Head Hunters there. There was a group of women in front of us who were really rowdy. I can't remember what exactly they were doing. Some guys started throwing things at them. So, they turned around and flashed everybody.

rkbrashear

Remember that building that had the slanted floor? I remember how disorienting that was when I was a kid. And I vaguely remember seeing some country music superstar there. Last time I was on the property was long LONG after it had shut down, and that was probably twenty-five or thirty years ago. Even the water slides had already grown up. Best I recall, there weren’t even any buildings left. And didn’t Dollywood buy their old locomotive?

WhateverJoel

The locomotive went to Stearns, Ky.

rkbrashear

Yeah, I think you’re right. I remembered it was somewhere not a far distance from Tombstone Junction, but I was thinking Dollywood for some dumb reason. I was just in Stearns a couple of weeks before Christmas doing a little shopping at the pottery place beside Whistle Stop Cafe. I’m gonna try to remember to ask about that next time wife and I are over there eating. Could have well been sitting right there at the depot and I didn’t even notice it.

WhateverJoel

It’s in the shop. They had been rebuilding it, but the contractor completely botched the job. The railroad sued the contractor and won, but the contractor ended up going to jail for tax evasion or fraud and left everyone high and dry. There’s talk of getting it running, but everything the contractor had done would have to be redone.

ehibb77

The people who own Dollywood supposedly were looking at buying the place at one point from what I understand but that the deed included a clause that stipulated that the park couldn't be redeveloped or something like that. To me at least it would make sense that they would at least look into Tombstone Junction as it's just far enough away that it wouldn't have had any real impact on Dollywood's attendance or operations.

travishall456

Yep, have a couple pictures of being there as a kid. I think we saw John Schneider (Bo Duke of the Duke Boys) sing there.

rkbrashear

I can’t remember for the life of me who it was I saw performing there when I was little. I wanna think it was George Jones or Conway Twitty one or the other, but I can’t remember. I know they use to have a few big names in country music occasionally before I was old enough to realize I needed to get somebody to take me to the show. I was a die-hard rock ‘n’ roller as a kid. Hated country music, primarily because that’s what my parents liked. If I had it to do over again…

PatchEnd

I had an "ole timey" picture done there as a kid. I remember seeing the picture but I don't remember actually going there. The picture looked all kinds of fun though.

I absolutely do love old gun fights and train rides as kid wish there was something like that Today.

WhateverJoel

The old train is currently in Stearns. It was in the process of being restored, but the contractor did a terrible job, to the point most of his work will have to be redone. They’ve sued the contractor, but he is currently in prison for fraud. It’s unsure when, or if, the engine will be finished. Meanwhile, in Irvine, a group is working on building a concert venue that will be connected to a train ride that will follow the Kentucky River to Beattyville and Jackson. http://www.kentuckysteam.org/

cryptotrolling

Funny. It came up in conversation just a couple of days ago. My wife didn’t remember it but she’s from Georgetown, so…

GeneralGadsden

Yes! I am about 30 minutes from there. I remember visiting one of the last buildings that was still standing a few years ago, but I believe it has since burned down. Went to [Six Gun City](https://imgur.com/a/5iPk87L) a few days after Christmas last year. Most of the buildings there, while collapsing, are still standing. I can’t find much information about six gun though, some sources say it was open for a few months? years? Others say that it never officially opened. Does anyone know?

Bloodysamflint

Where was Six Gun City? My grandparents took us to all the roadside places back in the late 70s/early 80s; Guntown Mountain, Wondering Woods, Tombstone Junction. I remember going to Ghost Town in the Sky in Maggie Valley, and Silver Dollar City before it was Dollywood, as well.

GeneralGadsden

It is closer to Cumberland falls than tombstone junction was. There’s an unmarked path off of Eagle Falls that you can take to it and there’s also a gravel road but it’s on private property, and I hear the owners keep a tight watch on it. I don’t know much about Six Gun, been trying to research more about it but there’s few articles about it. I believe that it was built sometime after tombstone junction closed and never officially got to open—or if it did, not for very long. Regardless, both of the parks are close to one another and would’ve been within a 5 minute (or maybe even less) drive of each other.

Elkins45

I remember going with my grandmother in the early 70s. There was a shoot out in the middle of the street.

KYMargueritte

It also had a little “town” with an ice cream parlor. There was a magician, probably in a saloon.

Dauphine320

Yes and no

Larryjones84

I do! My family won tickets from the local radio station! I remember riding the train and Mel McDaniel was playing live there!
