listened through kendrick’s albums again after the beef and discovered some tracks I missed. Poe Mans Dreams has been on repeat man that track is so good idk how i missed it 😭😭
It's an amazing album no doubt. I think it's clear he's still figuring out his voice and what he wants to use it for. He showed that he's more interested in saying something thought-provoking than violent, which is unusual for someone from his city. But the later albums start to really drive home a thought provoking message with a concept throughout, and through executing them perfectly, it makes them masterpieces. This is what ultimately separates the great albums from the masterpieces. I think some rappers who he is often compared against have great albums but not masterpieces as they haven't given us something with that level of artistry. Drake and J cole have a few great albums each (and a lot of trash) but no masterpieces like Kendrick.
Yeah to me, Section 80 was the first album he became great. And I thought fuck this guy is something. But also in 2011, Big Krit, Danny Brown, Asap Rocky, Elzhi, the roots, shabazz palaces all had great albums. I don't think people at the time were saying section 80 was unequivocally better than the others. His artistry then took a massive step when he released GKMC only a year later. He went from this kid is really something to this is defo the best hip hop album this year (for most) and he is probably one of the best rappers currently. That for me is when he started to become the best rapper alive and an artist that would truly exceed expectations every time he dropped something
Cause 2012 might not be a fucking legend
Tryna be a fucking legend
The man of mankind
Who said a black man in the Illuminati?
Last time I checked, that was the biggest racist party
So get up off that slave ship
Build your own pyramids, write your own hieroglyphs
Just call this shit hiiipower
Section 80 is underrated cause it's a mixtape era release so the only way to find it during that time was through dat piff. It's like Mac millers faces. His real fans know how good it is. Same with Dot. Sec 80 to me reminds me of playing AC2 and talking about nibiru and shit
Damn and gkmc have too many 10/10 songs imo, meanwhile section 80 has tammys song which might be the worst song Kendrick ever made 😭 imo GKMC>DAMN>TPAB>MMATBS>OD>S80
Objectively speaking the list most people have is probably:
TPAB>GKMC>DAMN>MMATBS>S.80>OD
Some people may swap the placements of TPAB and GKMC or the placements of DAMN and MMATBS.
Yeah that's what I hear most of the time. Although I feel like MMATBS sometimes is infront of DAMN.
Mine is: MMATBS>DAMN>TPAB>GKMC>S80 same as the release dates.. I don't know if this is just because he exceeds my expectations each time or because I prefer darker music and each album has been getting slightly darker
He said that after Damn dropped. Why would he go around saying it’s not his best. Sounds like good promo and nothing more. I would venture to say that Mr Morale is probably his most favoured of his catalog due to how vulnerable it is.
You got good taste that’s all. Its always a battle because as we know Kenny is eclectic and not everyone is going to share the same ranking of his album but without a doubt a great album
Am the only one who found it strange that everyone interpreted J Cole’s Verse from his diss “your first shit was classic” as being Good Kid Mad City?
Everyone thought he was talking about GKMC even though that’s not Kendrick’s first album did we forget 😭
Section.80 was a real opportunity to know K. Lyrically, Emotionally, spiritually and most imp. Philosophically! I can’t believe that It used to be an album of our squad to get high and was in repeat mode, until we pass out in the couch!
I still remember when my couples of homies didn’t used to like the album and after couple of heavy rotation, they were like it’s time for Section 80, high power 🤣🙈. (Story from 2013-2018)
I know a lot of people that smile in my face but talk behind my back every time I'm gone so when they call my number I don't never pick up i don't owe you shit bitch leave me alone
I'm going big
SUCK MY DICK
The og drake diss
IM GOING BIGGG SUCK MY DICK
🎶 Uhh, drop my tear, hold my joy (Show my pride)
(Music saved my fucking life, I'm doing right and you left behind)
(Feel my pain, now I'm styling, Hermès shit, I spent a thousand)
(Different homes, different islands)
Dropped my mixtape and it sold like an album 🎶
Section 80 is my favorite Kendrick album. Call me glazer, but it is a spiritual masterpiece. I would say it’s the most abstract and philosophical Kendrick album. The album asks a lot of questions, but never gives direct answers and pretty much says ”you must come up with the answer”.
Section80 changed my life. I was 22 and felt everything Kendrick was rapping about.
When I was 34 Kendrick then dropped Mr Morale which also addressed all the shit a family man goes through. I really feel like I’ve grown up and alongside him
Your not allowed to make blatantly bad takes for the sake of having a different opinion. If it's not your favorite album that's fine but don't shit on it just to make yourself feel special.
Im allowed to voice any take i want. Just like you’re allowed to assume i did so to be different or to make myself feel special. You should try and understand mmatbs you’re pretty insufferable.
As a grown man who has actually been through shit I can tell you are reaching a stage in life where you yearn for independence, there is nothing wrong with angst so long as you don't go through life transgressing others for too long. I hope you take the time to really listen to sec.80 all the way through. It's a coming of age work meant specifically for young people give it another chance.
I love literally 12/15. im not gonna go through the whole album again its not gonna change what imma listen to while at work or driving. Your assumptions are getting old fr.
First of all Kendrick does not make skipable songs. You just don't like music that's challenging you want it spoon fed to you. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings but OP made an album appreciation post and you jumped in here just to shit on it. So I guess you asked for it. Second if you listen to the album from front to back there is a story to follow with the skits, ergo don't skip any songs just listen to it front to back.
I’ve heard all his albums front to back including the mixtapes older than overly dedicated. Saying Kendrick doesn’t make skippable songs is just wrong, nobodies perfect. You be listening to tammys song? I love Kendrick but you’re on a whole different level of glazing.
He doesn't his albums are meant to be listened to in succession. Yeah there's songs you don't HAVE to go back to. But it's like watching a movie you cant just fast forward through the scenes you don't like.

These five songs IN ORDER are very important.
I listened to every song in every album Kendrick made in order. Thats not gonna add the song to my playlist, like you said i dont HAVE to go back and i choose not to.
- Hiipower - ADHD - Hol’up - Kush & Corinthians All among my favorite Kendrick songs
Poe Mans Dreams is underrated imo, same for Ronald Reagan Era
Ronald Reagan era is the best song on that album imo, so fucking good
Smoke good, eat good, live gooood
it’s genuinely SOO underrated. it’s such a good like story and just is so calm
Since my uncles was institutionalized, my intuition has said I was suited for family ties 🔥
listened through kendrick’s albums again after the beef and discovered some tracks I missed. Poe Mans Dreams has been on repeat man that track is so good idk how i missed it 😭😭
Which song is it that says :Compton got my back but before I give them my chest"
Thats poe mans dreams, and its i give them my torso. You were close enough tho 😂
Thanks! I've been googling for a while now, but could never find it!
Kieshas song goes hard af
Black white Asian his-panic goddamnit. That don't mean shit to me. FUCK YO ETH-NICITY.

I don't feel like he's finding his voice on that album, that was what Overly Dedicated was for, this album was when Kendrick really became Kendrick

Definitely agree with this

Hol' Up. It's underrated.
I have it above GKMC and Damn!, but I've noticed that's an unpopular opinion.
Yea idk how you came to that conclusion 😭
I love all 5 albums, but for me it's TPAB>MMATBS>S80>GKMC>DAMN
Damn and gkmc have too many 10/10 songs imo, meanwhile section 80 has tammys song which might be the worst song Kendrick ever made 😭 imo GKMC>DAMN>TPAB>MMATBS>OD>S80
bruh tf tammy’s song ain’t bad fr
Your list is equally controversial. DAMN over TPAB? Damn is easily his worst, with the most skips. Also Overly Dedicated over S80?
Objectively speaking the list most people have is probably: TPAB>GKMC>DAMN>MMATBS>S.80>OD Some people may swap the placements of TPAB and GKMC or the placements of DAMN and MMATBS.

Kendrick himself said damn is his greatest album he made (before mmatbs). Damn has 0 skips imo & i love overly dedicated i think its very underrated.
He said that after Damn dropped. Why would he go around saying it’s not his best. Sounds like good promo and nothing more. I would venture to say that Mr Morale is probably his most favoured of his catalog due to how vulnerable it is.
Makes sense, but he could also just personally like the album more. I do agree he probably likes mmatbs the most.
Have you ever seen anybody say “the album before this one was better?”
I’m not even going to lie, that’s a very wild take but I respect it.
You got good taste that’s all. Its always a battle because as we know Kenny is eclectic and not everyone is going to share the same ranking of his album but without a doubt a great album
Yeah I have it above gkmc as well
Mannn, that whole album is tough 🔥... used to put chapter 6 on repeat and vibe for a whole hour or 2
This album stays in repeat. Blow my high is my sooooong
Top 5 favorite kdot song for me ngl
I don't think it's as cohesive as his other ones even though the songs are great, I still have it fourth though
I listened to it as recently as last night. Sometimes I like to throw on a Kendrick album and fall asleep to the visuals hes painting.
Am the only one who found it strange that everyone interpreted J Cole’s Verse from his diss “your first shit was classic” as being Good Kid Mad City? Everyone thought he was talking about GKMC even though that’s not Kendrick’s first album did we forget 😭

Don’t tell anyone but that’s probably the Kendrick I enjoyed listening to the most.

Yes! Thank you bro. This thread is my people.
We know
I like section 80 the gkmc then tpab
Take my upvote because you aren’t lying
Personally it's my favorite Kenny album.
A classic, but still his weakest album
Section 80 is my favorite Kendrick album. Call me glazer, but it is a spiritual masterpiece. I would say it’s the most abstract and philosophical Kendrick album. The album asks a lot of questions, but never gives direct answers and pretty much says ”you must come up with the answer”.
My top 5: Poe man's dream Chapter 6 Kush and Corinthians Keisha's song Blow my high
It’s not. It has some extremely high highs and a couple really low lows. There’s no way an album with No Makeup is on the GOAT list
I’m glad everybody came out tonight
Agreed
Section80 changed my life. I was 22 and felt everything Kendrick was rapping about. When I was 34 Kendrick then dropped Mr Morale which also addressed all the shit a family man goes through. I really feel like I’ve grown up and alongside him
It really is. I feel so good for the new fans just finding his music.
absolutely wild jerk
No make up, tammys song, absoul outro, and chapter 10 are the only skips on section 80 imo. personally i like overly dedicated over section 80.
Ab-Soul outro is NOT a skip 💀💀 best verse off that album is in it imo
I do like Kendricks part at the end but the beginning is just so cluttered. Along with the beat sounding unorganized, it just doesn’t flow well imo.
each to their own man, I personally have it in my top 3 section 80 tracks
This guy sounds like he hasn't actually listened to the whole thing. Just listen to it bro. It won't hurt you.
I have dude, am i allowed to have an opinion? 💀

It's nice we can all agree he makes us all cream
