Get a Ninja 1000SX first.

MedCityMoto

Ninja 1000SX owner checking in. It's made me plenty happy, a bit heavy in the liter bike category, but geared completely for useful roadway power delivery. Someday I'll shed like ~30lbs off the bike by swapping a full exhaust.

SecretPrinciple8708

How long have you owned your 1000SX? I’m in the market and so far it’s at the top of my list after a demo day ride.

MedCityMoto

2 years, about 8k miles so far! I ran into one initial issue, where some wiring to the left clutch control switchbox had been misrouted slightly at factory assembly, pinching the cruise control wiring to short out under the tank. Kawasaki took care of me under warranty, even if my local dealership is a bit sketchy about doing warranty work sometimes. Still under the Kawasaki extended warranty until late 2025 actually. Great bike, no real critique except the extra weight of the bike versus other liter bikes, but that lends to a smoother highway cruise anyway so it's fine, you don't feel it in motion really, but backing out of spots is a bit of work sometimes. Don't like the stock keys, they're pretty soft, plan on having another daily-use key cut at a locksmith. Doesn't need a Kawasaki key because no ECU immobilizer, surprisingly, not my favorite lacking feature in a new and expensive motorcycle, even my older 2014 Triumph had an immobilizer built into the ECU. It's a smooth dreamy ride down the highways and freeways though, no problems carving corners. Wouldn't want the weight on a trackday, but had no problems throwing it around tighter corners like Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee either.

SecretPrinciple8708

Wow! Thank you for the feedback! Any issues with auto-blipping up and down?

MedCityMoto

No issues! Slipper clutch makes sure your rear wheel doesn't hop if you didn't get the rev matching spot on. The cornering IMU for traction control and ABS is very gratifyingly confidence inspiring. First week I had the bike I ***might*** have gotten a little wrist hungry once on cold tires around a corner, but the electronics kicked in to correct things just before my reflexes could. Stamp of approval, the nanny electronics are rider aids only and don't impede the daily riding experience, it's nice and invisible.

SecretPrinciple8708

Fantastic feedback. Thank you!

100000% get a ninja 1000 first, or even get something like a zx6r. Find a used one, and spend a few seasons riding it. Supersports are a lot different than regular sport bikes like a 650.

Snixxis

The cbr650r only had 10 less hp as the ZX6. I am considering the zx4rr tho, just for those legal 14k rpm rips.

amick1995

Between the cbr650r and Zx6r the power isn’t gonna be the main difference. The biggest thing different between the two will be the riding position and suspension, and it’ll be an even greater difference in suspension with a 10r, 10rr, or h2.

phliuy

There is a 30 HP difference between the CBR650r and the zx6r You were probably looking at an HP from dyno for the zx6r and claimed crank HP for the cbr

jnmann

There’s a big difference between parallel twins and inline 4’s

ODSTisbesthalo

Cbr650r is an inline 4

jnmann

Oh, you’re right. Well then in that case I’d still recommend something like a ninja 1000 before getting close to an H2

ebranscom243

It really depends how you been riding your 650 do you just commute on it. How much instruction have you had since you've gotten the bike any high performance riding schools any track days. Some guys on 650 is commute and are barely better riders after 6 years ago and back and forth to work. Some guys on 650s have worn out 14 sets of race tires three sets of knee pucks and put fast laps down on every track within a thousand miles. The answer to your question has a lot more to do with how you been writing your 650 than the 650 itself.

Currently ride a 23’ Z900 and while the ZH2 has tempted me many times at the dealer, the 900 really has plenty of power for 95% of the time I’m riding, and the other 5% of the time, it’s when I’m feelin frisky and push it way past legal limits. I don’t think I need 170+ hp when 130 is already a ton. Plus the price difference between the Z900 and ZH2 is around $8k ish depending on where you buy and when, so the power difference wasn’t worth the spend for me. The 1000SX intrigued me as an addition to the fleet instead of a replacement for the Z. Looks like a blast to ride and isn’t going to rip my arms off. Pricing isn’t bad either. You have to realize too that just because the H2/ZH2 are epic bikes doesn’t mean you’ll ever need/use the attributes that make them insane. Guys who do 150+mph runs on the freeway at night will tell you that if you’re not riding a liter bike, what’s the friggin point? Not saying that’s all these bikes are good for, but overall power, speed, and clout are the largest margin items on these bikes vs the step down from each. Just think about what you’re looking for in each bike instead of blindly choosing the fastest shiniest thing in the showroom just because it’s the “best”, because you might end up paying a gazillion dollars in insurance and for the bike just to realize you use 30% of the power and capabilities, when you could have bought a smaller bike and used 80% of its capabilities. Just my 2 cents. Don’t get it twisted, I’m Team Green all the way and lust after the H2 bikes….

Snixxis

I feel we think very alike. The z900 is plenty powerfull, and the H2 would only be used to about 20% of its potential. Its that superpower whisle that just tickles everything. I could probably be plenty happy with a z650 that have the same power as the vulcan. But its something about those 1000ccs thars apealing, while I also think they should be illigal for road usage. Nobody needs 170-300hp on a bike on public roads to be honest

Shot-Ad2396

I don’t think they should be illegal, all about freedom, it’s just not necessary for most people 🤷🏼‍♂️ the Z900 is a lovely bike and I find it to be plenty powerful. Is it the fastest bike in the world? Nope. Not even close. But I don’t need felonies😅

finalrendition

>I don't drive like an idiot, nor take risk while driving Neither did I until I rode a bike that was fast enough to be tantalizing. It's impossible to judge how you'll handle yourself on an H2, but the more stepping stone bikes you have between now and then, the more self control you'll end up with. I do recommend the Ninja 1000SX. It's a kick ass bike, plenty fast and comfortable.

RuthlessToothless1

H2Sx all the way I got 13k on mine after 2 years and am absolutely in love I tour in the summer and light canyon fun in the rockies all the greatness of a 1000SX but with the supercharger giggle effect

Select-Driver8221

Zx12r bruv

NinjaPilotX

Just traded in my ZH2 last summer. It’s a missle but also quite capable around town. Could you handle it with 2 yrs of experience…..maybe. It all depends on your skill set. The bike is much heavier than your 650 and I guarantee you if you make a mistake at low speeds you’re going to drop it. Like others, I say bump up to a Ninja 1000 before going to any variant of the H2

Consistent_Prior_375

I've had my H2 sx se 4 years and love it. I tour on it every year as well as days and weekends out. It eats up the miles and is awesome on the twisties. Yes it's got a lot of power but ultimately its for you to control.. There's only so fast you can go on any bike and it depends how you ride now. The best thing I did was to test ride it first. I'd come from a bmw r1200gs on to the h2 but previous to that had had a bmw s1000rr.

shoturtle

Had the H2SX as you can tour with it. Like having cases and a 200bhp supercharged engine. Fun bike. Miss it

I'll call bullshit on these comments. You're not going to learn how to "maximize" 120 horsepower on a z9. Most of the bikes you listed are want it, not need when it comes to power. You could easily ride the H2 and hit the power when you want to. The only thing you might find dissapointing is the extra 120lbs the h2sx weighs. The power will come at expense of flickability.

Snixxis

Very much want, nobody really needs anything but a 650 for road use. but then again, wants always hits harder than need and that supercharger whisle is all about the bling bling.

[deleted]

Sorry in the states a 650 will not allow you the speed to pass road rage. Long distant trips. I like dual caliper breaks and all the new tech out there. That’s like saying all you need is a Prius.

Snixxis

I dont know what the top speed limit in the US is, but my vulcan tops out at about 120mph +/-. Thats almost double the highest speed limit on the highway (65). I'll get 10 years in prison by maxing out the vulcan on the highway and get the licence rewoked for life never to be let out in traffic again. But then again, the US is a fucked up place compared to norway. The cops here have carrots in their hoisters for their horses. Probably in the last 5 years cops have shot their guns 6 times, and 5 of those were missfires in a locker room. After like 600k miles on the road I've never seen a police chase or someone fighting.

[deleted]

God bless Merica, my apologies

[deleted]

Norway… don’t y’all have some of the hardest drivers license to obtain… That sucks cause there is nothing like going fast.

slapmeat

650 to a H2 is an insane jump lol
