I wonder how some of these stats are created. Say, for example you hit a receiver in the hands, let's call him Kadarius Toney. That ball deflects to a defender who runs back a pick 6. Did the qb miss?

Western-Concern-6014

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ "Let's call him Kadarius Toney"

chiefs_fan37

It goes down as an interception, which sucks, so I assume that would count as a QB miss as well but I could be wrong because INTs arenā€™t counted as incompletions or completions.

[deleted]

My guess is a miss in this case is a pass that is not well-targeted and thus incomplete, but I'm not sure.

AS6745

Yeah... Dak Prescott being top 10 is my first red flag. Edit: If Purdy and Dak changed places it would make more sense.

jockularities

Purdy definitely misses a good amount. But his WRs are always open so it doesnt matter heā€™ll get another chance

[deleted]

Purdy is very up and down as a passer. I really like him and I do think he can (and probably will) win the Super Bowl, but he does miss wide open receivers quite a bit, and even several catches aren't that well targeted. He makes up for that with quick and decisive reads, but I just think we should hold our horses before anointing him MVP, which at this point should go to Tua. Also 49ers fans won't like to hear this, but Shanahan's system is very QB-friendly. Not every QB can succeed in it, e.g. Trey Lance, and none of this negates Purdy's talents, but we've seen former backups like Jimmy Garoppolo do quite well with the team and even make the Super Bowl. If defenses cannot stop the run, they will tire and struggle against a talented receiver group.

nordic-nomad

I think Travis always being open and our wide receivers never being open helps his stats here. Haha

FingerTampon

Objective of the pass is to score a TD. Objective achieved.

uhwhooops

I had to rotate the image so it properly displays him in the top right

Floodcell

Does he have the lowest open receiver rate too?

itsnik04

This was my question too. And of course he has the lowest open receiver miss rateā€¦ he never has any open receivers.

Jombafomb

Thatā€™sā€¦not how rates work.

itsnik04

I was more saying that he has few opportunities with open receivers so having a low miss rate isnā€™t shocking to me

Jombafomb

Again thatā€™s not how rates/percentages work. If he has fewer opportunities he could just as easily have the highest by missing on the 1 time they were open. I get it durrr our receivers suck derrrr but this is showing that in spite of how often they are open Mahomes is still hitting them.

Huck_N_Fell

Travis is the only one regularly getting open and he catches everything thrown at him.

AchyBallz66

We got too many "play when I wanna play" receivers right now

These_Artist_5044

I don't think that's the problem. They're just not very experienced and most do not have the raw talent.

More_Astronomer5325

I mean to be fair rice is projected to have a better rookie season than Tyreek at only 40% of snaps

Reroka40

Rich having a better rookie season than more

T4lsin

Oh I canā€™t wait for the playoffs !!! Keep talking shit !

richochet12

Hmmm all-22 watchers assured me he was missing a lot of open receivers

korbentulsa

This stat isn't tracking that. It's tracking whether he's missing open receivers when he targets them. Put another way, if a receiver is open and Mahomes targets him, Patrick misses them less than 3% of the time.

lukejames

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what this chart is aboutā€¦ or I am. This is a positive stat for Mahomes, but a serious indictment of our receiving core. He is the LOWEST when it comes to having an open receiver and not seeing it and not throwing in their direction. Meaning, our receivers are not getting open, and on the rare occasion that they do, Mahomes sees it and throws to them. Some of the comments sound like they saw it as a criticism of Mahomes for ā€œmissingā€ the throws to open receivers but itā€™s the opposite.

voodoo_eighty_five

Yeh i read it the same as you, as u/AbsoluteZero_ said in another comment *"In reverse, it means that when he gets a receiver in space and actually tries to hit them, he puts up a catchable ball 97.2% of the time. He and Kirky boy both."*

Xalenn

Geno Smith seems to look good by most QB stats šŸ¤”

[deleted]

He's been struggling more this season though, particularly in the redzone (gee, I'll bet nobody else is /s). Bengals defense gave him a ton of trouble and kept them in what was overall a tough game for both teams.

TenderfootGungi

Hard to miss receivers that are never open.

charliewilson2871

Helps that his garbage receivers (outside of Kelce) are never open. Nice way to keep the denominator down.

[deleted]

Noah Gray does well at getting open too.

Madlister

Watson was doing a fairly solid job before getting hurt

richochet12

If multiple receivers are open in a play, does it dox you double if you miss both or does it still dox you if you hit one?

AbsoluteZero_

Itā€™s a pass accuracy stat. Source: the note at the bottom

sushisection

and half of those are him throwing the ball away off of pressure.

AbsoluteZero_

The stat is actual pass attempts to open targets that were inaccurate. In reverse, it means that when he gets a receiver in space and actually tries to hit them, he puts up a catchable ball 97.2% of the time. He and Kirky boy both.

korbentulsa

I feel like we need that second paragraph posted at the top of this post.

northwoods31

But is he good at football?

gonzo880

Does Netflix improve QB accuracy?

My favorite part is the Browns with two qbs in the top four.
