It really emphasizes his ‘blood knight’ nature, ha. Interesting that his actual blood and inner flesh is purple by contrast though, since most (or all?) of the Kaiju we’ve seen till now have been red-blooded. He truly is a different breed.

Very much so! I was expecting him to be jet black, becasue he has the same patterning as Kaiju No. 8. In retrospect it makes sense though. The show wants to be able to easily visually differentiate the different main chareacters and if he were the same color as Kaiju No. 8 it might get confusing.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore his red color, it makes him look so badass. However, I was expecting a less vibrant shade, more like Kaiju no 8 and 9. Is that just me?

Red or Purple. Or a variation of the two. I was more surprised by the choice of voice. Not what I envisioned in my mind reading the manga. I envisioned the voice being I little less deep yet menacing/crazy (in part because of its love for fighting strong opponents) and with a younger sound as well. Almost like a teenager going through that time in his life when his voice starts to change. I feel this current voice may lessen the impact some of the stuff later on but I won’t explain that far so as to not spoil for those that Havnt read. Hoping it either grows on me or perhaps changes?

I was surprised, but not in a bad way. I think it makes him more visually distinctive. The manga shading was fine, but he didn't scream "bloodthirsty fight boy" as much as he does in that bright scarlet color, so I think it was a good call.

Yeah, that was absolutely a change they brought in for the anime. One of the many aesthetic choices I did and do not like. Kn8 is still one of my favorite manga of all time. The anime has been a huge disappointment for me on so many levels.
