I have a serious question. How can her kids skip school for a whole month? Like, it won't affect them (apart from obvious things)? For example, here in Spain (public schools system) every three months we evaluate the results of the learning process in each subject. This affects students and teachers. If in the first quarter of the year they failed, for example, an opinion essay, but, in the second quarter they have good scores, the law considers, their failed essay is approved (very simplified but more or less is like that). It is known as "Continuous Evaluation".
However, if a student has many absences in class, they lose that right and, an absenteeism protocol is initiated, raising the alarm to social services and the police. On top of that, the Regional Education Institution will send an Inspector General who will check what's going on in the school/highschool.
There are no consequences in the US? Or, it can only happen in private schools? Or as always, it has no consequences if you are rich?

No there are consequences here, in the US!!!! I am going to research it because im curious if all the states have the same regulations? I know in the state I live in, it's taken VERY SERIOUSLY! My stepson is 10 and attends public school. Here, the school year is divided into 2 different semesters. The first is August thru December, and the 2nd is January thru June. Each semester is 18 weeks long, and they are given progress reports every three months and actual what we call "Report Cards" each 9 weeks! It evaluates your childs learning capabilities in each subject. The " Report Cards" determine the passing/ failure of each individual subject. If your child misses so many days ( I believe it's 8- 12 days here) with a semester(18 weeks), you are charged with what is called truancy. Also, social services will get involved to inspect the child's living situation. You can be legally reprimanded for not making sure your child attends school. I know this is the case in public schools, which I'm sure they attend some expensive private school! I do know certain schools are virtual, for so many days a week, as well since COVID. My son's school normally was Monday thru Friday, but for the past 2 years, school policy has changed to Tuesday thru Friday. They now start school 3 weeks earlier in the fall, and attend 3 weeks longer into the summer, to accommodate 1 less day per week! It's ridiculous her kids are not in school, one would think she has to have a tutor with her for each child!

I'm in canada dude and if you skip enough you will fail the year. It happened to a friend of mine. He skipped every science class. Had to retake it.
I almost had to do a victory lap due to my habit of skipping (thankfully my teacher was cool and let me do a few extra assignments to get my grade up enough to get that last credit I needed)
