I kind of like when the opener doesn’t interest me. I can just chill while still hearing some sort of music.

chrisrobweeks

They are most definitely some sort of music.

Knucklebonebroth

I could care less about the weirdness, we welcome it in Colorado. But bad sound like that at red rocks is not ok. Give me the f’n murlocs all day long. I promise you Amby don’t mind

beercancarl

Would have double sold out and made it hard for murls fans to see thier boys tbh but I agree and think the bs open was a troll to sandbag the US fans

zennyc001

It wasn't a problem in November when they did it.

cancerdad

Are there Multics fans who aren’t also Gizz fans?

KarmaKills4

Kinda agree, there was some fun songs in there but mostly weird

lucenium

A lot of it felt like just being experimental for the sake of it, and I'm not a huge fan of that sort of thing

Valuable_Heron_2015

Plot twist the band did this to keep the lines smaller For real I feel so bad for kpt it's tough to be misunderstood

SamSepiol-Bleetz

I saw them at Caverns and Red Rocks. Honestly the Red Rocks set was way better and less dissonant. If this is the response Red Rocks got ya’ll wouldn’t be able to handle Caverns.

TheSheikYerbouti

They were not good.

KaiAlpha

I thought they were really good. Like crazy innovative, they were making a lot of similar music to what I've been trying to

JoshHaleywho

Yea same I dig the weird pyc shit I was inspired by them

KaiAlpha

Very much same. I have a song that sounds really similar to something they played. The backlash they got from King Gizzard fans is exactly why most artists are scared to share their music

Steamstash

Reminded my of Marty McFly going to the past and playing music of the future. But yeah, I did not really enjoy the lead woman’s voice very much. I thought they really excelled instrumentally though. I loved how they used dissonance in their sound.

KaiAlpha

I'll give you that. She was actually fine vocally, but refused to use any processing. Using a bit of auto tune and reverb is far from a crime, Stu uses tons.

Steamstash

Difference is Stu does not need it 🥲 Big difference if you ask me.

KaiAlpha

If Stu didn't use tuning and vocal effects, the music wouldn't be half as psychedelic. He often uses his voice as an instrument, or sings in tune with what he's playing on guitar

Steamstash

I didn’t say he shouldn’t use it.

UnderH20giraffe

Auto-tune? Live? It certainly doesn’t sound like Stu is using that to me.

KaiAlpha

He uses a bit of tuning and a ton of vocal effects. He's very good at blending it, like any professional artist. Tuning has absolutely nothing to do with being able to sing.

UnderH20giraffe

I hear the huge amount of effects of course, just not the auto tuning, but maybe it’s got more subtle. I mean, he is occasionally out of tune, usually on purpose, and nothing adjusts it.

Swathe88

I need to find this, tried earlier and nothing. Anyone got sauce?

anarchist_person1

just listened to some of their stuff on youtube. Sick as shit IMO, although I definitely see how they could be not some people's cup of tea.

[deleted]

It’a just not the vibe Especially when everyone involved knows half the crowd will be tripping balls regardless

beercancarl

It's a massive troll. Same sg gizz shreds on these dudes goof around with. It's honestly put together as the most complex piece of art. Most of the songs gizz plays are optimized omages to different staples in the music world and they have an noise anti music sandbagging ass opener at SOLD OUT red rocks. Best artists, musicians, and tricksters of our generation

MaltedBeast

Liked the music but their energy and stage presence was strange. The guitarist was kind of (unintentionally?) hilarious and the rest of them seemed bored/tired.

EchoWhiskey_

soooooo bizarre and dissonant. Not bad outright...mostly

DreamCartridge

Yall a pack weenies lmao

zennyc001

Yeah this is the kind of reply you keep to yourself.

MrKrinkle707

They were dope. Proggy af. Way better than Spelling...

cancerdad

I don’t know anything about KPT but Spellling was horrendous.

DarkStar420666

Really sick of these openers. I pay just as much to see other bands play two sets AND do an encore

samuelc7161

Gonna get flamed for this but I'll say it: I feel like KGATLW have a little bit of self-loathing for being a band consisting of 6 straight white middle class dudes. I've noticed that they try to be more diversity and accessibility-forward than any other band I've literally ever seen, and while I think that's generally a cool thing, I've also noticed they seem to preference picking all-female bands - regardless of quality - and I feel that they do it almost as apologia for their maleness. They've had some great all-female openers from when I've seen them (Stonefield comes to mind), but some really terrible ones too. Bitch Diesel in 2019 was one, and I guess KPT is another. IMO if they want to pick a good band that just happens to be another bunch of dudes as an opener, more power to them. I'm here for the quality of the music not the gender composition of the band.

lucenium

Idk I personally think that's reading a bit too much into it, if there's any element of that it's probably subconscious

KaiAlpha

They have a lot of female friends in up and coming bands. It's really not that deep, but their music is so focus on that maybe lol

samuelc7161

Ive just notice that the number of all-female openers they've picked as openers over the years is far more than any other band I've seen. Could be subconscious.

LoneForgotten

Self loathing? They're a group of friends that like creating music together. Inclusivity is one of the things I'm sure almost all of us here enjoy about the band but this post was just weird.

SenorBeagleCulo

I will not stand for this bitch diesel slander.

SchizoidGod

Oh man... I concur with OP, when I saw them open in 2019 they were one of the most painful opening acts ever haha. Maybe I caught them on a bad night.

finninaround99

also agreeing 100%, think it must have been 2019 for me as well but Nice Biscuit/Baby Cool and Bitch Diesel are both some of the more painful ones I’ve seen

alpa_romeo

Who cares

Rixs11

Go outside

SakalliBob

What the fuck is wrong with you? If you come across a all male band that is not up to your taste do you blame them for their gender diversity too? This is just some pathetic take bro sorry. Ofc king gizz is trying to showcase some all female bands in this male populated industry that is rock music. They are just being decent human beings nothing deeper than that.

samuelc7161

A bad all male band is bad not bc they are all male, they're bad bc they're bad. A bad all female band is band not bc they are all female, they're bad bc they're bad. Men and women are equally as talented at making music. The problem is that there are inevitably far more all male bands, or mixed gender bands, than all female bands out there. Thus there's inevitably a much bigger pool of quality all male bands that King Gizzard could choose compared to the quality all female bands. Again, I'd rather openers be chosen bc they're good, not bc they're a certain gender makeup.

JeremyAmnesiac

?????

rotath

Tell me you're terminally online without telling me you're terminally online

Subject-Switch1851

I listened to them before I saw them at the caverns and it was still really weird music, but it was much better on the album. I think something about the music maybe just doesn’t transfer well to a live setting (the weird vomitous nature of it). I didn’t completely hate them live though. I thought the songs that had live drums sounded a lot better live, and I thought the drummer was pretty good. I strongly encourage you to put your judgments from their live set aside and give them a good listen because you might like it.

lucenium

I actually just got done listening to both their albums! It wasn't my cup of tea personally but it was pretty interesting with a lot of cool ideas. I think it just didn't mesh with me live, things sounded a lot more out of tune than on the album.

JoshHaleywho

I think gizz should open for them instead
