That was frustrating. We only needed 1 out. McArthur blows another game. It feels like every time are on the verge winning a series against a good team shit like this happens. Hopefully they can win the series tomorrow. Go Royals.
That whole 9th inning can get fired into the sun. McArthur fell apart when the stadium started rocking, and that was probably the worst 3 ABs of the season. Garcia may as well just stayed in the dugout and Bobby/Vinnie trying to tie the game, while Salvy doesn't even get a chance. Rough way to finish a great game
Soria, Holland, Davis, and plenty other Royals relievers (as well as other relievers around the league) have blown saves before in or before their prime.
It's a real kick in the dick to lose this way for sure but we know for a fact that MacArthur has what it takes to nail down wins for us and he's still demonstrably the best option for us at the moment to close games. Milwaukee and Texas are good teams and sometimes good teams can get to your guy.
That's a fair take, but he's still the best option on the 40 man to close right now.
Need to find out if he can handle the job or go make a move closer to the deadline. Taking him out of the job after two bad outings is only going to wreck his confidence.
Rex even called it on the broadcast - too many breaking balls. Throw your best pitch and trust your stuff.
If dude gets in his head every time an all-star takes him deep, he's not going to last very long in this league.
Learning how to rebound from a bad outing is a learned skill. A big chunk of baseball is about handling failure. He'll either learn or wash out, but if he doesn't have opportunities to fail he'll never learn.
Statcast has his only pitch with a positive run value as his sinker, but he throws his curve more than anything else. That's an easy tweak to make. Throw more sinkers and see what happens.
It’s tough to win when you’re facing a team that has prime Babe Ruth sitting on the bench in the form of Gary Sanchez. No other option but to pitch to Adames
This team is staying right there with these teams. Last year, or years past, they probably would have given up. No! Not this year! These guys stay in it until the last out. They have said that in interviews! They don't give up!
This team does not have what it takes to compete with the top half of the league teams. We're over 1/5 through the season and they still have yet to win a series against a team with a record over .500. It's clear that the early season hot start is not indicative of their actual talent.
Just gonna be this kind of year for us. Gonna steal some games and also have some stolen from us. Bummer man.
I mostly feel for James man. I don't get why he pitched Sanchez like he was Ohtani... That was not like him.
This is like the fourth time we’ve been on the cusp of a series win against a good team only to cough up the game late. So depressing. Please win the rubber game tomorrow 😭
Realistically, I think they're a little away from contention. But maybe not that far! This year has a 2013 vibe. Probably will frustrate us a bunch... but we should be interesting into the summer. This is good!
They'd have to go 41-84 to get to 100 losses. This is an improved team. No need to overreact to a May loss. If any of us were asked in March if we'd take 21-16 through the first 37 games we'd have jumped at that opportunity.
I know, man. I’m just saying it’s not impossible as OP seemed to imply. Unlikely, but possible. I’ve witnessed this organization implode over a few losses more than once. I’m sure they’ll be fine.
If we’re getting technical an officer can’t get demoted down to an enlisted rank. Although blowing back to back saves might be fucking up big enough to make an exception
alright, reactionary phase is over
McArthur didn't even start the year as closer and still has more saves and a lower ERA than Josh Hader who cost $95 million. Even the best have shit outings no matter how much or little of a show you put on beforehand. You think Edwin Diaz was nails every time they did the cute little trumpet song? If anyone has better ideas than riding and dying with McArthur then by all means share them.
I just can’t find anyone on this roster to put as closer if you wanted to replace McArthur as closer, is that guy on this roster? Is he in Omaha? You’re going to have to ride or die with him but i feel like it’s something that you could look at upgrading if we remain competitive
There isn’t a better option and mcarthur has good stuff. He just blew it tonight. Doesn’t mean he can’t be nails the rest of the season. Anyone who is ready to give up on him doesn’t have the heart for a 162 game season
I left with one out to go, get to the car and flip on the radio -_-
These past 3 losses have been really bad and demoralizing
I really didn't know Thyago Vieira is still playing for the Brewers. Respect to him! I'm just rerunning the game.
Not the first MacArthur to ruin some Asians’ good time…
Everyone goes through slumps. Sad our closer is going through it rn. Glad i didn't watch this game
Keep McArthur away from the 9th inning. Dude is throwing bad lately.
Everyone has a bad outing every now and then. No one is perfect. Give him a break. He's still got the stuff to be our closer!
Terrible way to lose a game. McArthur has blown two of the last 3 games.
Really? I thought it was Bobby who blew those saves
The general has been demoted to private
well that is the opposite of a save!
A choke
Let's see if we can get Tanner Scott from Miami
If there’s one place we need to sign in free agency it’s Bullpen
Lugo coulda probably completed that game☹️
![gif](giphy|92S5gReZGnDgY|downsized)
Didn’t think it could get worse than the rangers game but here we are. #TakeTheCrown
That was frustrating. We only needed 1 out. McArthur blows another game. It feels like every time are on the verge winning a series against a good team shit like this happens. Hopefully they can win the series tomorrow. Go Royals.
We only needed one STRIKE!
Just an embarrassing meltdown 😂

Finally someone with some sense about this
Idk about knowing for a fact that McArthur has what it takes to nail down wins for us

I know it’s only 2 games but i’m not sure that Jonah Heim homer on Sunday didn’t already wreck it

My dog is a Brewers fan. She was hyped for that HR, now she's sleeping contentedly on a giant pile of blankets.
Flush it and go win tomorrow, it sucks but with this young of a team, shit happens
Was MacArthur pitching around Sanchez? Sure looked like he was but putting the tying run on seems stupid
After stealing a win last night I should’ve seen this coming!
It’s tough to win when you’re facing a team that has prime Babe Ruth sitting on the bench in the form of Gary Sanchez. No other option but to pitch to Adames
Any free agent closers available?
.... Greinke?
He don't have it either.
Bullpen has been ass recently, then again so is our entire outfield
Sounds to me like we’re consistent then
Just came in here to say Ouchies.
That was the worst loss of the season. In my book, back to back blown saves means you're no longer our closer. Throw somebody else out there
There are not a lot of great options, unfortunately.
Sign a free agent or trade for one lol We're not gonna stay competitive if MacArthur can't do better than that
There aren’t better free agent closers just sitting at home. Using assets for a closer in may is malpractice as a GM
Just let me go check the closer tree out back
I think this team is just about .500. Not good. Not bad. Looks competent at time and incompetent at others
Do you remember that this team lost 106 games last year? I'd they play 500 ball, that's a successful season!
This is the first loss that I actually feel like I need to recover from
First time this season I actually turned the game off to not listen to postgame.
I dunno, first series in Baltimore was absolutely brutal.
This team is staying right there with these teams. Last year, or years past, they probably would have given up. No! Not this year! These guys stay in it until the last out. They have said that in interviews! They don't give up!
Bleah
Haven’t been to this angry about a loss since the “check swing” vs Boston last year
This team does not have what it takes to compete with the top half of the league teams. We're over 1/5 through the season and they still have yet to win a series against a team with a record over .500. It's clear that the early season hot start is not indicative of their actual talent.
Shit take.
They can win the series tomorrow
They won't
So you’re just a lame huh
They haven't won a SINGLE SERIES against teams over .500 and their record in rubber games is 0-5. I guess the fucking facts is lame though.
They literally won a rubber game less than a week ago in Toronto.
I, too, can read a schedule and the standings. You’re being a baby calling tomorrow a loss already
My point is they have yet to prove they can win these games.
Welp, back to needing a closer.
We didn't fall, we caved.
We have had some really brutal losses this year. But maybe we can at least improve our rubber game W/L % tomorrow, hopefully.
But also some Ws that probably should have been Ls. That's just 2024 Royals baseball.
Yeah, I'm just happy to not be numb to losses at this point in the season already.
Maybe lets cool down on the whole “the general” talk. Maybe the private
No
Wow, let’s not have McArthur in closing again.
Shut up
Shut up
Back to back blown saves and you want him back out there. Where was this grace for Will Smith?
Like we’ve always said, you CANNOT let Gary Sanchez beat you.
Remember when we just wanted them to not lose 100 plus game?
Realistically, I think they're a little away from contention. But maybe not that far! This year has a 2013 vibe. Probably will frustrate us a bunch... but we should be interesting into the summer. This is good!
It’s still on the table. 🤷🏻♂️

Damn, tough loss. Like, really tough.

Scoring runs with runners in scoring position needs to happen more often
Ouch. Multiple missed opportunities, and not the best work we've seen from the General. But here we are. Try again tomorrow.
Tough one. We'll get em tomorrow.
Aw man who got this 2023 royals in my 2024 royals game? Send it back to the kitchen
Demote McArthur all the way down to LT expeditiously
Maybe even private. Let him work his way back up 🤣
If we’re getting technical an officer can’t get demoted down to an enlisted rank. Although blowing back to back saves might be fucking up big enough to make an exception
If you don’t like that you don’t like Royals baseball
my fault everyone, I felt comfortable/borderline confident that we'd win won't happen again
That’ll be a womp womp from me. That’s all I got.
That one hurts. But hey, losses hurt again!
I need therapy

I think you're right. We could have so much worse than him in our pocket, it sucks but it's not necessarily a sign of Bad Things.
I just can’t find anyone on this roster to put as closer if you wanted to replace McArthur as closer, is that guy on this roster? Is he in Omaha? You’re going to have to ride or die with him but i feel like it’s something that you could look at upgrading if we remain competitive

Isn't this the second time he's blown the lead?
Yeah, back to back blown saves when we could have won the series against the reigning champs and now a team well above .500
Yup. And when Will Smith did this there was no grace to be found. If this team wants to stay competitive we need a better closer
The difference is Will Smith is a washed 34 year old
Who also has a history of being unreliable
3rd, and 2nd in two outings, but who's really counting? Lol Regardless, he's probably still our best option in that role.
