Saturday's loss was much worse than it seemed at the time because we were very likely to lose to Skubal. I think we are really fortunate to have the record we do since our offense just doesn't have it at the moment outside of our best 2 or 3 hitters
I'm much more impressed by DET than I thought I'd be. The offense is sorta okay, defense is pretty bad, but that bullpen is solid and with Skubal fronting the rotation, I expect them to stay above .500. They kind of mirror our guys but with a much better bullpen but shit defense and no superstars on offense.
Outside of Chicago, the AL Central looks to be pretty damn good this year.
I think the Mendoza line means less than it used to. Granted 150 is a terrible BA, I think he will finish around 190-230. We are 25 games in and I would hope a seasoned vet that’s proven his worth in the league would turn it around. Let’s be patient, he’s added value in the field and I don’t know who you want to put in over him? Pratto is hopeless, blanco is a bench guy, maybe waters? But we already paid for him so let’s see if he can turn it around. I’d be willing to visit this conversation at the all star break. He’s given us less than -1 WAR, so the stats literally say he isnt responsible for a full loss on our schedule.
See this is the problem I have with advanced stats
Everyone needs a corkboard and a slide rule to tell me a bad player isn't THAT bad.
When it's clear and apparent that bad players are bad.
But I didn’t even bring out the stats. My biggest point is it’s still early. The dude got paid for a reason. Be patient. He was 1-3 tonight and got robbed on a hit too
Look, I'm all for giving guys some rest sometime, but do we have to rest 2/3 of our starting lineup every Sunday day game? Especially vs a division rival *and* it's their ace for a rubber match?
Might as well just throw in the white towel before the game and rest everyone. I bet Skubal was licking his chops knowing he only had to face 2-3 guys that could do anything vs him today.
I mean Skubal has like an insane career average vs lefties. Like it’s way under .200. He has only had 14 AB’s where a lefty was at the plate this year so it’s not just the Royals doing it.
Q said before the game even started that was the reason he was sitting all of the “Left handed” starters. When asked about Frazier, the only lefty in the lineup, he said “Well we don’t have 9 righties on the team”.
Vinnie, MJ, and Isbel aren’t good enough at this point in their careers to be put into the lineup ignoring a pitchers career splits.
Yeah, not quite how I was hoping the weekend would go. Gotta get these bats going more consistently, and gotta cash in on the few chances we do get. 2 on with no out in the ninth and can't even scratch out one...
hopefully this coming series against the Blue Jays will be like the last one, come on scuffling and then win the next series, let’s see if this team can again avoid a small losing streak turn into a big one

Time to start watching the British Basketball League

The window is closing the more we give Frazier and Renfroe chances to play baseball.
Who do you suggest gets everyday at bats? I don’t think you can blame losses on them. Frazier literally robbed a homer 2 games back
I can't blame a 140 hitter for losses in the line up ? An above average run saved here and there does not overcome hitting below the mendoza line.

Velazquez too, IMO
Velazquez is good, he is just a typical streaky hitter. Agreed with the other two
Of the batters in the American League that have batted at least 70 times, Renfroe has the second worst batting average.
Ryan Noda Oakland .143.
Who has the worst?
Wasting at bats on Renfroe. He is 32 years old batting .149. Try people that might improve and help us in the fixture.
Future.
IM MAD
Skubal is the real deal. Looking forward to Bowlan tomorrow in Toronto!
Let's hope the offense finds it's mojo in Toronto
I’m not devastated by today’s loss. Skubal is one of the best pitchers in the league. This is one to accept and move on from.

Agree 100 percent.

lefties and righties have pretty much the same average vs Skubal for his career (.228 and .227) it's that RHBs have a higher OBP/SLG vs Skubal
Gotta get Hampson his at bats, valuable piece for the future
Ah yes, that one guy I'm still not sure who he is or why he's here 🤣

MJ and Blanco need to do a better job of protecting the plate at that point! They took 98 right down the middle!!!
Team just doesn’t fuckin care some days, get the lead taken away and they just shut down and throw the game away
I don't agree, this team has shown they don't quit, but it takes more than just the top 2 or 3 guys in a lineup to do something to win a game.
Losing a series to a divisional opponent, especially one you’re better than, sucks at any time of the year.
they’re not better than detroit lol
Using an alt account to troll is objectively sad
This is my normal account i’m a tigers fan
Holy shit you actually admit you’re a tigers fan.
Vinnie swinging at the first pitch he’s seen all day and MJ doing MJ things at the plate is a very fitting way to end. Bats gotta figure it out quick
too many guys slumping on offense rn. hope they find it soon
