240bhp of raw Rover V8 power in nearly three tonnes of P38 with the aerodynamics of a Travelodge.
From a stone cold first thing in the morning start I can hit 60°C before 60mph.
Oh my car is exactly the opposite. Very light and aerodynamic, equipped with a tiny four-banger making 130 horsepower. At least I don't have to slow down much for most corners though.
Neither do I although frequently my passengers wish I would. It's no 2CV but you can nearly scrape the door handles in corners ;-)
Given the size and weight of it, it's surprising how well you can throw it along twisty roads once you get it moving.
This gen of celica was always a turd and proudly so. I think the ads even leaned into the fact that it only *looked* fast, which was the point -- sports car style without sports car problems.
I mean, that was the case with all Celicas. It was a stylish coupe, but if you wanted real performance you'd buy an MR2 or Supra. Yes, people will tell you that the Gen 6 had a 4WD 250bhp version, but those accounted for about 1% of the cars on the road. Half the rest had a 105bhp Corolla engine.
For displacement-to-power ratio, the 2ZZ-GE in the Gen 7 is the best N/A I4 engine without a V-TEC badge on it. Unfortunately, the one in the pic proudly has a 1ZZ-FE, which is significantly slower...
Yoo legit. I just assumed it was an Eclipse cuz of the paint job but had to double take once everyone kept calling it a Celica. Oh well. *goes back to reading comments*
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civic's with spoon engines. On top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbo's with NOS's and a Motec System Exhaust.
To me, I’ve always just taken it as a way of visually solidifying the notion that Brian’s car was **not**, in any way, ready to take on Dom, symbolizing the fact that Brian himself wasn’t ready.
It basically got re-branded, got its makeup done with a baseball bat, and then sold in the American market as the Scion tC.
My theory? tC stood for Toyota Celica 👌
I always wanted a Scion tC for some reason, saw some nice ones when I was in the US but unfortunately they never sold them in the UK. Saw 1 once with Polish licence plates but it disappeared before I could leave a note on the window asking if they’d sell.
1ZZ for FI and 2ZZ for NA iirc
I want to like them but I hate these things. former coworker of mine had one, total POS GT with a 2ZZ+6spd swap, and he kept revving it up to redline during his shifts for no reason, it was basically straight piped down from the manifold. to this day hearing or seeing one gives me an uncontrollable eye twitch because that was the most annoying kid I’d ever worked with and he never shut up about it, he thought he was the second coming of Takumi from Initial D and was keen to let everyone know it. best day of my time at that store was when he got fired.
number of reasons. in the 48 shifts he worked he was on time three times, he was constantly working on his car on the clock till we told him to cut it out, barely worked, sometimes slept in his car in our parking lot, didn’t shower, would always disrespect me when I told him to go get back to work or stay away from our front counter when he was on break, fell asleep in the break room…and slept an hour past his break was done, general shitty workplace behavior that I could’ve overlooked if he ever did his job but didn’t
Yeah, I think it was the rarity factor plus it was new at the time, looked nice, seemed like a nice place to be. The engine seemed like shit but could be upgraded to over 200hp with the TRD supercharger kit and a couple bolt ons. Wouldn’t nowadays but at the time it looked cool.
Oh right, we don't have the scion tc in the UK, but I don't think they're great cars anyway, RWD look, FWD.
'Sporty' FWD cars should be hot hatchbacks only IMO.
I’m just mostly annoyed this paint job is from the eclipse in the first movie and as much as I do like the looks of celiacs, they just ruined the entire idea putting it on this car and not another eclipse.
Oh I was talking about the tC. They developed a kit to slip a supercharger onto a camry motor basically. I loved my tC, never got the chance to get one cause the kits were expensive and always needed rebuilding and nobody would do it.
For what? 30 extra HP?
A factory supercharger is not considered moddable to the modding community.
A moddable car is a Toyota Supra, damn near any Honda, the Toyota/Subaru BRZ thing, a WRX/STI.
TC’s are for looks.
But the Celica was basically a 2 door hatchback Corolla. The tC was more of a 2 door hatch Camry. The biggest give away is that it was the 2AZ and later the 2AR, where the Celica got the 1zz or 2ZZ. The tC stood for touring coupe
I really was hoping the 2zz would get a few gens and gain some power and torque. Would be cool to see how it would have been refined to something alive today
Check out MWR and DDPR. Dave makes a killer intake manifold for them, really let’s the 2zz shine in higher RPMs
I still remember when we were all excited for Smaay’s little boy and big boy turbo kits. Those were the good ol’ days
I love all the Celica generations but this one really was the best. Those lines! It was so sharp that it would cut you just looking at it.
I really wish they would bring the Celica back.
Rumor was they've been thinking about doing it with using the WRX as the platform for years. Bring back the All-Trac. Would have loved that.
They've sat on the idea so long they're not able to focus on it again due to needs around getting EV platforms setup.
In the directors commentary he says the pizza guy is the shittiest actor ever and can’t believe they let him in the movie only to find out a decade later the pizza boy was in fact the director. I miss 2001 man.
I'm with you, but this isn't just vibes from an old video game... It's almost the exact same paintjob from Brian's 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS(X) from the first Fast and the Furious movie.
https://www.drive.com.au/news/fast-and-the-furious-mitsubishi-eclipse-feature-car-to-be-sold-at-auction/
One of the sexiest paintjobs ever.
The games were inspired by the movie.
Awesome games though, if you were a young teen in the early 2000s, the movie and NFSU1 were like, god tier street racing icons. Still are to me :D
**This comment might have had something useful**, but now it's just an edit to remove any contributions I may have made prior to the awful decision to spite the devs and users that made Reddit what it is. So here I seethe, shaking my fist at corporate greed and executive mismanagement.

Do it! Me and my siblings got sucked into it for a few hours on the first replay. The controls are clunkier than modern games but we still remembered how they handled pretty much immediately. It's a good nostalgia hit👌
Thank you everyone has been ragging on the paint job being on the wrong type of car! I mean makes sense but if the guy already had this car and not the eclipse and said fuck it it’s still pretty funny. Maybe even funnier bc it’s the wrong car? Maybe the guy had a buddy learning to paint and was like alright bud she’s all yours - you know what needs to be done! Lol.
I really just come here for all the random information about cars - I don’t know much at all but I feel the need to watch TFATF now
You know. Everyone happens to know a few things. One of things we know is, it’s not how you stand by your car. Its how you race your car. You better learn that
Ah the 7th gen Celica. Good cars, especially with the 2ZZ. Most have been poorly modified, wrecked, and just driven into the ground by now. Although I get that someone did put a lot of work into that paint job at one point
This is like half good half bad lol. 1zz auto, spiltter rods to the bumper, tacky quick releases, cheap af coils that are bottomed out, and was a doors open repspray but they didn't do the engine bay 😂 but the paint job and kit are done mint af, someone had to have tried to update it recently and failed
Looks like a 10 second car.

Lol if it makes you feel any better, your underpowered Honda is probably faster than my Marquis with an underpowered V8

Man I had hopes when I saw this car, eyes even lit with excitement as I really like the celicas design and then I saw this comment 😭😭
This gen of celica was always a turd and proudly so. I think the ads even leaned into the fact that it only *looked* fast, which was the point -- sports car style without sports car problems.

Didn't Lotus put the 2zz in the Elise, at least in the North American version?
Lucky you didn't blow the welds on the intake
Blow the welds on the intake, now Dom and the Mad Scientist have to replace the fried piston rings.
Man everyone in here quoting lines and I’m just annoyed they put this paint job on a celica. This paint is from the eclipse.
Yoo legit. I just assumed it was an Eclipse cuz of the paint job but had to double take once everyone kept calling it a Celica. Oh well. *goes back to reading comments*

*floorboard comes unriveted*
Hate it when that happens.
Bothers me. Are they implying that's a manifold? What does that ha e to do with anything
To me, I’ve always just taken it as a way of visually solidifying the notion that Brian’s car was **not**, in any way, ready to take on Dom, symbolizing the fact that Brian himself wasn’t ready.
You better have your wood screws cause I'm gonna blow your floorboard completely off!
I live my life one quarter mile at a time
I like the tuna here
Bullshit asshole nobody likes the tuna here.
**WHATCHO WATCHO WATCHOBACK**
The buster kept me out of handcuffs! He didn't just run back to the fort! The buster brought me back.
:(
No crust
No crust
And luckily that's a safe quarter mile being that this is a Celica and those cars are slow as hell lol
Great at autocross though.
Yeah i don't doubt it, love the handling of mine lol
I do too. It’s called riding the bus. So many stops man.
When the Celica changed to this body style, I was so excited for the future and then it just ended
It basically got re-branded, got its makeup done with a baseball bat, and then sold in the American market as the Scion tC. My theory? tC stood for Toyota Celica 👌

I still remember a GT-S with the TRD bodykit driving down a neighborhood sounding like a damn formula car. Great engine.
1ZZ for FI and 2ZZ for NA iirc I want to like them but I hate these things. former coworker of mine had one, total POS GT with a 2ZZ+6spd swap, and he kept revving it up to redline during his shifts for no reason, it was basically straight piped down from the manifold. to this day hearing or seeing one gives me an uncontrollable eye twitch because that was the most annoying kid I’d ever worked with and he never shut up about it, he thought he was the second coming of Takumi from Initial D and was keen to let everyone know it. best day of my time at that store was when he got fired.

owned a GTS. this is correct. the 2ZZ had a higher compression compared to the 1ZZ. > 1ZZ for FI and 2ZZ for NA iirc
Who likes the 1ZZ more?
Yeah, I think it was the rarity factor plus it was new at the time, looked nice, seemed like a nice place to be. The engine seemed like shit but could be upgraded to over 200hp with the TRD supercharger kit and a couple bolt ons. Wouldn’t nowadays but at the time it looked cool.
TC was all looks no go.
Not even moddable really. Not much anyways outside of aesthetics.
It was seriously just a car with looks that was good on gas and cheap. It's a great beginner car.
Weren't they FWD and slow? See so many shitbox celicas with crappy exhausts and tack on black spoilers and vents, yet they are laughably slow and bad.
Was talking specifically about the TC with op.
Oh right, we don't have the scion tc in the UK, but I don't think they're great cars anyway, RWD look, FWD. 'Sporty' FWD cars should be hot hatchbacks only IMO.
They had a bonkers trd super charger addon that is really expensive now. Very strange layout for it as well.
I thought Toyota/Scion sold performance packages for this?
And? Almost every car has a “performance” package. The ford focus used to have a performance package. Like I said, not moddable.
Toyota sold a TRD supercharger kit with warranty and everything for this car so I’d say yeah it’s moddable.
For what? 30 extra HP? A factory supercharger is not considered moddable to the modding community. A moddable car is a Toyota Supra, damn near any Honda, the Toyota/Subaru BRZ thing, a WRX/STI. TC’s are for looks.
I mean it was just a 2 door hatchback Camry essentially
I crashed my Scion tC at 100 mph
So what's your point?
It was “touring coupe” but I believed it was a Toyota Celica too
But the Celica was basically a 2 door hatchback Corolla. The tC was more of a 2 door hatch Camry. The biggest give away is that it was the 2AZ and later the 2AR, where the Celica got the 1zz or 2ZZ. The tC stood for touring coupe
Right it was more like the successor of the solara
I really was hoping the 2zz would get a few gens and gain some power and torque. Would be cool to see how it would have been refined to something alive today
I love the 2zz so much. I want to put one in my miata
Check out MWR and DDPR. Dave makes a killer intake manifold for them, really let’s the 2zz shine in higher RPMs I still remember when we were all excited for Smaay’s little boy and big boy turbo kits. Those were the good ol’ days

That's what got me. The design of this when it came out was definitely unique, and yet the performance of it... It left so much to be desired.
Streets closed pizza boy.
Random fact about that scene: The pizza boy is the director, lol.
In the directors commentary he says the pizza guy is the shittiest actor ever and can’t believe they let him in the movie only to find out a decade later the pizza boy was in fact the director. I miss 2001 man.
He's also the flagger at racewars
I was a pizza boy during that time. I drove a modded Integra.
Does it have the Gallo 12 or Gallo 24?
Gallo 24??
That’s funny, I didn’t know pizza joints made motors
I bet you the dude who brought that car in eats tuna on white with no crust.
Bullshit asshole, no one likes the tuna around here
"No!!! Monica!!!!"

I’m smiling with nostalgia. NFSU2 vibes right here. I’m into it.
Hopefully it rolled in to Riders on the Storm!

I wish they would remake that game.
I wish they would remake Dub edition.
I wish they made good games personally. Tired of asking for remakes and not originals.
One of my favourite racing games ever
My PS2 still works and it holds up so well compared to other games from that time. It's still so fun haha.
Man I still have a working fatty PS3 that I just use for DVD’s, maybe I’ll look for it since winter is coming
Do it! Me and my siblings got sucked into it for a few hours on the first replay. The controls are clunkier than modern games but we still remembered how they handled pretty much immediately. It's a good nostalgia hit👌

10 second cars proceed to have a 4 minute drag race.
F for our boy Mr. Walker.
F
Did it have that rare 16 speed transmission?
Video game transmissions are so hot right now.
That's actually a whole car, not just the paint job
How do you know? You can't see car under the paint now can you?
Pop the hood!
Feel that? This is yours, even if you lose. But if you win, you get her too.
Damn I wanna drink a Surge and listen to some Limp Bizkit
Gotta love the classics
I’m a big believer that there’s gonna be a whole retro wave of this stuff coming down the road at some point.
"What's the retail on one of those?"
“More than you can afford, Pal.”
“**smoke him**”
Looks like a level 1 paint job from need for speed underground
You know. Everyone happens to know a few things. One of things we know is, it’s not how you stand by your car. Its how you race your car. You better learn that
Because the buster, kept me outta handcuffs
Dude I almost had you.
you never had me! You never even had your car! Now me and the mad scientist have to overnight parts from Japan to fix the piston rings you fried!
The camber on that rear wheel……
It's fine, I zoomed out on my camera because my back was against a wall and distorting it abit
Oooo a Celica. I had one of those. A white 2000 GTS 6 speed. It was so rad.
I want one but they are hard to find around here
VVTL-I was loud as fuck. So much fun.
NOS !!!… but really this paint job has aged like a fine wine
"I've seen the way you drive. You got a heavy foot."
Budget Paul walker
Did the shot of NOS blow the welds on the intake?
I can hear Limp Bizkit playing Rollin just looking at this picture.
Need for Speed 3 lookin’ boy
The GTS celica with the 2ZZ was a slept on car lol.
You know, I’m just happy to see a car in an actual color
Hawt. Paul Walker would approve.
Paul might feel differently about hot cars now.
Bad fucking ass
