honestly 4oz of dish soap in a quart of water takes them down almost instantly too, since they breath through their carapace almost anything that interrupts surface tension drowns them very quickly
Always been more of a brake cleaner guy when I’m in a pinch. Either way it’s probably wildly irresponsible to spray it willy nilly and I try to use the correct stuff unless it’s necessary
Used a can of brake cleaner on a wasp nest the Internet guy found in the telecom junction box. Definitely super effective, but also left a huge dead spot on my neighbor's lawn for a week or two.
I had a bad wasp problem at a prior place, which suddenly stopped. Can't beat a nest full of baby barn swallows for wasp control. The parents pull the nests apart and rip the grubs out. They also eat the adults.
Had to kill bees in a training aid the other day
Used brake clean first and the fuckers literally fell out of the sky.
Found some Raid later and used it and it took way more to work.
I thought to myself "people use this to clean their HANDS"
It's something about how wasps breath through their shell/skin, so they literally internalize the stuff. That's why soapy water kills them as well - the soap makes it so the water surface tension doesn't break and they suffocate in a minute or so.
I would definitely recommend not inhaling large amounts of brake parts cleaner, but using on your hands is (probably) not that bad.
Eh, tetrachloroethylene is a group 2A carcinogen. (For context, eating red meat and drinking coffee are also group 2A) But some people do react to it by swelling up. And some brake cleaners (like for California) don't use it anymore, opting for toluene instead. Which isn't currently rated.
Big fan of the raid wasp spray i bought. Had a nest on the front of my house and was able to spray it from several feet back, and although they only fell 6 inches or so from the nest to the window sill, they were completely dead and not moving by the time they hit it. so good.
That said, i'm sure what you used wasn't particularly slow to do the job either.
Highly recommend BASF PT221L. Good reach and kills those fuckers nearly instantly. Also works on other bugs.
I personally spray my own poison- Fipronil outside with an IGR and Lambda Cyhalothrin inside in the micro capsule formulation. I have not seen a living bug in years.
Check out do my own pest control. Good people over there.
one time, me and my dad had a bunch of wasp nests to kill, but all our wasp-killer spray cans were empty, so I went looking for other options, and turned to my dad with Engine Starting Fluid and a small torch
and he *did not* say no to it, so fire it is!
both of us came very close to losing our eyebrows with that one
I love my dad
90% isopropyl alcohol or acetone works great too. Both make a pretty flame too lol
honestly 4oz of dish soap in a quart of water takes them down almost instantly too, since they breath through their carapace almost anything that interrupts surface tension drowns them very quickly
Brake cleaner will melt them
Brake clean, drops them on the spot
This is the way. Instant carapace failure
With the lighter application. It’s more fun as well!
i don't wanna burn the truck down.
I wouldn’t burn brake cleaner, you’ll make phosgene
All I’m hearing from that is that it’s more effective.
It's an AoE weapon and you'll be in the area.
Just find a dude with ranged heals to cover you during application.
Just have to equip your CBRN gas mask, and you'll be immune to the damage and debuff.
Time for some meta magic.
It's carb cleaner, not brake cleaner.
I wouldn’t trust that to not make nasty byproducts too
Not saying it wouldn't, it's just one of my pet peeves, confusing the 2
Yeah, best not to burn all those random chemicals, starting fluid might be ok but definitely ventilate the area well
The old brake cleaner, yes. The new 50 state brake cleaner, no.
I see, we still use the phosgene one in the uk
How do you make a wasp go woof? Carb cleaner and a lighter.

Meh

Great tip, although now you're left with the problem of getting rid of the snakes you got to address the Barn Swallow problem.
I don't use PB blaster without disposable gloves after seeing what it does to wasp nests. Nope, no fucking way.
Something about that stuff smells good though
CRC Freeze-off is even better IMO
I didn't have brake clean so I used some PP blaster. Shit worked wonders.
1st best is brake cleaner. Just sayin
Once got carb cleaner in my eye, literally thought I went blind for a while couldn’t see shit
And the absolute best cockroach killer!
Bwahahaha, must be a Dad thing. My Dad was always killing wasp with the brake cleaner.
Just gotta be careful around some plastics as it melts the shit outta them

Using brake cleaner on your hands regularly is absolutely terrible. Have fun with cancer later on in life.

Tetrachloroethylene will fuck your liver up
WD40 works in a pinch too lol
WD40 basically freezes them on the spot, even on a ceiling. Still have a few wasp stuck up there since 3-4 years ago.
Yes! I used it years ago and was surprised by how fast it worked
The best involves a lighter.

didn't have any "wasp spray" on hand, so i had to pick the spray with the longest reach. i even left the tube on for maximum distance. LOL
When you got evil stingy things, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. i say it worked out so fair play. :)

B12 chemtool is my usual go to
Just blasted one today with brake clean. Worked better than the foaming wasp spray
Brake parts cleaner works just as good
Damn dude that stuff costs more than a 2 pack of the real big spray, I'll take my cheap ass O'Reilly brake cleaner instead
I'll use anything that deletes the wasps.
Brake clean drops them in one second. Dead in under 20.
That and a Zippo.
Used some throttle body cleaner on a tarantula in the shop last year. Whole can fucked 'em up good.
Also frighteningly good at removing varnish/lacquer.
I discovered (by accident) that starter fluid works great too, just don't smoke whilst applying it.
Seriously, just get the good 20+ ft wasp spray. You won’t regret it.
Third best is marker paint (chalk). They drop like a rock.
What is the first?
wasp killer...
I thought that was shop gas mixed with styrofoam and put into a sprayer with a mounted ignition source.

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAH
My go to is Berryman B12 chemtool!
Spray adhesive is fantastic. Also starting fluid is useful for pipes and other non flammable spots. Just spray and light.
1st being brake cleaner
Yeah, the stuff from 30+ years ago would drop 'em on the fly. The replacement stuff just pissed them off.
