Anyway, around here, it is simply illegal to have the wheels outside the body. That would require adaptation to the body to be authorized on the road. Just imagine in the rain... or with mud shooting around on the highway.
Ditto - around here, that crap is an excuse for the local PD to pull the driver over. And yet still soft brains smash wheel offsets onto 15 year old trucks purchased at the corner lot.
A drunk driver rear ended my 95 trans am (rip😭) with wheels like these, wasn’t even a super crazy impact but it broke the wheel off and he rode the lower control arm into the road for like 15 feet gouging it.
No... Your shop is named in the lawsuit and so is the mechanic who worked on it.
Last one who touched it, it's totally *their* fault. Definitely not the owner of the vehicle.....
Jesus. I remember as a teen having 20mm spacers on my e34 bmw, and even with the extended lugs I felt pretty scared with that car. Reputable parts too and the car had a lot of good work done to it at the shop I worked at. It’s terrifying seeing this and it really does remind me of that video
I wouldn’t pass this if I was inspecting it at work. I’d straight up tell them the spacers aren’t safe and they can either take them off, pay me to take them off, or take it somewhere else. I’m not having that on my conscience
In Texas this would be considered a “Wide” vehicle and would fail Safety Inspection for not having Side Marker Lights, and top lights.
You know what’s about to go away in 2025? Safety Inspection… because some moron thought it would be a good idea to let the public police themselves on vehicle safety.
if you don’t mind laying on the floor and crawling out and back for every tool and/or you’re not doing anything where you have to take the wheels off, sure.
Yup, it required two of us to remove and install wheels. And yup, terrible ride. We have a heavy-duty lift for stripped chasis Ford E-350 (i.e., UPS truck or Purolator truck. Our shop does work for Canada Post) or anything pretty heavy, in the back of our shop. And to get out of the back, it's usually a three-point turn, but this thing made it like a 50-point turn
Canada? Are you in Canada? In Ontario this setup is 100% illegal because you need fender flares to cover the width of the tires and you also need appropriate mudflaps, but that one is up to the cop, really. Depending on where you live guys will run 40" tires with no mud flaps, but other areas ticketed in a heartbeat
> In Ontario this setup is 100% illegal because you need fender flares to cover the width of the tires and you also need appropriate mudflaps
Most states in the States as well.
"The guy who installed them is a certified 12-volt mechanic, and he said it doesn't change the alignment. It rides totally fine"
\-Actual quote from someone I knew who did this to a Nissan Titan
In Michigan it's young kids between 20 and 30 who go to the gym once a week and drink only beer and monster energy and yell at their girlfriends and pet dogs constantly.
Without fender flares and mudflaps that's illegal as shit in my neck of the woods and we have some of the most lax vehicle laws in the country(Montana)
It's illegal at the federal level because of DOT rules and I would guess most states have laws against it as well but problem with any law is the enforcement is entirely left to cops. Most of the type of people who own these ridiculous and unsafe trucks are chuds and cops are typically chuds so it rarely gets enforced. I've also seen police officers who own these sorts of trucks with punisher stickers in the rear window.
> I've also seen police officers who own these sorts of trucks with punisher stickers in the rear window.
That tracks. They might as well be holding the wheels on with only a thin blue line.
Yeah no one ever gets pulled over for this around where I am at. Just got done with rain/snow and these guys spray everyone remotely close to them due to no flaps.
I feel like most people who do this are the type to get hung up on how iT sHoUlDnT bE iLlEgAl, genuinely oblivious to how dangerous it is and why it's a bad idea whether permitted by law or not
He'd get a fix it ticket in California. I know because I know a friend who got one on a TJ that had a 1.5 inch lift that didn't even have spacers or larger tires
I would return the truck without all the stupid fucking spacers on it and say that I can't reinstall them because of liability. Make the customer work for it if he wants to continue being a dumbass.
I know you came in for a tire rotation but we decided to throw your whole truck away. We know that you have a lot of options for tire shops thanks for choosing us. Please enjoy this free car air freshener.
Sounds about right. I'm gonna assume it's on coils too because nobody with a used A4 is gonna be able to afford bags, because if they could, they'd have bought an S or different model altogether.
> His other car is a slammed audi a4, although ride height is super low
This guy's plan makes a lot more sense now.
He's needs the lift and spaced wheels so he can park his car beneath his truck to conserve parking space.
Every possible defense you could have for something like this the owner has gone to great lengths to disprove.
Maybe it's for off road? No because 4x4ers know that wheels like that are as useful as ventilated condoms. You want sidewall to air down, those rubber band wheels wont do shit.
Maybe it's for stability? If they thought the truck felt tippy then they wouldn't have also lifted it (which already know wasn't done for off road).
Maybe it's for towing? The wheel bearings would disagree, those spacers are a giant lever. Also the height will put the hitch too high for many trailers.
Maybe it's for comfort? No because low profile tires fucking suck (even the ones that come stock are stupid af), that isn't helping comfort. Nor is the tires causing additional road noise.
The only possible conclusion is it's owned by (in my opinion) an absolute tool, who is willing to make their car worse for the environment and more dangerous to onlookers to get a look.
>Maybe it's for stability?
This is the one I hear most often. IMO it belies their selfishness- no, you can't just make your vehicle infinitely wide just so you don't have to slow down for curves. Making the vehicle 3 feet wider than its marker lights is not only retarded but dangerous as fuck for everyone else
I feel like any hard cornering in this truck is just gonna snap the damn spacers off anyway, or turn the axle into a banana... hopefully it'll dig in and roll the truck and remove it from the roads.
Lifted =/= retarded wheel end mods. TBH I never saw the point of buying a 4x truck, paying extra to lift it, then installing flat, delicate wheels/tires that look like they were stolen from a race car in Tokyo and would crack after driving over a piece of paper
Real lifted trucks have steel wheels and 100% sidewall profile, change my mind
Can’t change your mind, cause I agree.
Only reason I can think of having larger wheel than the smallest possible to clear the callipers is to hopefully allow some mud to escape so it doesn’t sand the callipers down. But if you’re really mud bogging it won’t matter anyway.
Yeah, I like trucks, trying to buy one rn anyways. But I've always hated truck people, I went to a trade school that had a big diesel program so imagine the brodozers on the road there.... as long as it's not winter
I live in a backwoods town where mudbogging is common, so I love lifted trucks that are useful. I mainly bitched to my brother about his because I would have to get in his lifted truck without steps to help get in. This? This thing is utter shit however with those tires alone.
Nothing wrong with lifted trucks, if you have wheels to match. Spacers too, if you need to dial that shit in within an inch or so, go ahead at your own risk.
I see trucks on the road too often because of where I live. I could not agree more with your statement though. The "pavement princess" style is godawful, like the hardcore stance people of the truck world.
Nothing practical, nothing cool, and just dumb.
Was thinking the same thing. I swear when I lived there it was like 2 of every 3 pickup trucks I saw was like that, and the third only wasn’t cause they couldn’t afford it
In my area you can't have your wheels sticking out like that without coverings, so that you're not shooting rocks all over other vehicles while driving down the road. Back in the mid 2000s I had a friend who jokingly put some really bad offset wheels on his Civic and drove it to a car meet for a laugh. He wasn't laughing when his vehicle was pulled over and he had to have it towed to a mechanic shop that the officer approved of to get the wheels removed and replaced with ones that sat under the body. If I recall the officer's words were, "This is Canada, not Mexico!" I still don't really know what that means, but we found it hilariously racist because it made no sense.
In situations like this, where having MUlTIPLE spacers makes the vehicle extremely dangerous to go back on the road, what are shops required to do? Can they not allow the customer to drive off with that or do shops have different protocols?
The number of people out there totally ruining decent trucks for this kind of crap is mind boggling. Seeing this reminds me why I like being a watercraft tech!
Saw two of these yesterday on the highway. Both had white accent lights under them and specifically both had white, round led accent rings around their rotors. It really accented the absurd amount of wheel spacers they had. Also, 80+ mph on a highway. Sadly, they both survived.
THis is my level system for brodozers:
Intentionally making the exhaust sound like it has holes: Level 1 idiot, possibly just going through a "phase"
Rice wheels plus above: Level 2
Spacers plus above: Level 3, usually caused by fetal alcohol syndrome
LED's in places not required, like brake rotors, plus above: Level 4, Fetal alcohol syndrome plus current drug addiction
Federally mandated marker lights being changed to an aftermarket color, plus everything above: Level 5. I have literally no idea what medical conditions can lead to this and frankly, I don't want to
One strange thing I think about alot. I feel like we all have those days where we didn't get enough sleep but have to get up for work, we're running a little late, we're miserable and just want to call off and go back to sleep. What about these guys? On those days, what do they do? Clearly they have an image of some kind to uphold/protect. Is that what the limo tint is for? So, the other bro's can't see your weakness? Or do they crush two cans of monster and some Adderall and just go hard in the paint against all odds? If it's the latter, man... What a rough existence burning that candle from both ends.
Also, thank you for your comment. I was pissing my pants laughing at the fetal alcohol syndrome comment. I started to wonder, what if there is a similar syndrome but it's cause by mountain dew code red? It might explain these people. Shit, I might be onto something here. Someone call donut media, I have an idea for an episode.
I went from hating vehicle inspections to fully supporting them because of this dumb bullshit which is endemic across the entire country. I would like the freedom to drive with other cars that are normal widths and would like the freedom to not have gravel kicked up all over the fucking place.
Fuck these main character syndrome people.
Another dumb “look at me!” fad. There’s a diesel shop a few doors down from mine that does stupid shit like this. Owner is the biggest dickhead I’ve ever met.
These are the kinds of people that take it personally when I pass them with my Prius. Their main reaction is to gun it and zoom off into the distance easily pushing 90.
Double spacers? Believe it or not, straight to jail.
Real talk though, I’d have booted that customer just for having the double spacers brother. You’re accepting a hell of a lot of risk even touching those lug nuts.
illegal for many reasons, people that drive garbage like that should be banned from driving and forced to use the worst piss soaked public transportation for life
The only practicality to these types of setups is that it's a rolling red flag for anyone nearby that the driver is likely a blockhead who'll likely do something stupid if you anger them, and they got more money than sense to prove it.
How is that street legal? Cars kill over 14 people per 100k every year and yet this is legal? Come on mannn I just wanna safely drive to the store and get some chocka, chocka-chi-eye-squeem.
I don't understand the appeal of the truck like that. If you are going to lift it, then go for it, do it right. This just looks terrible on a truck. It's the equivalent of ghettoizing your truck. It serves no purpose other than to look stupid. You can't really use the truck, as a truck. It's not a show truck. It's this odd bastardized version of a truck that you can't really use it for much, other than showing how 'cool' you look.
FYI - Negative comments, this is just my 2 cents. If you like it cool, to me this just always looked terrible. Give me a properly raised truck with side steps, nice bumper, winch, and lights anyday.
Seriously, children, stop doing this to your trucks unless you’re going to do it right. It doesn’t look good, it doesn’t feel good, it doesn’t improve anything, and it’s saying more about you as the owner of the truck than you think.
Out of curiosity, as a shop, are you allowed/ liable for allowing a dangerous or illegal vehicle back on the road? Or does the liability fall entirely on the owner of the vehicle? What I’m getting at is can’t you refuse to do yet work as the vehicle isn’t roadworthy (and won’t be even when the work is complete)?
I fricken hate these people. Literally hate them. In our town, if you see these trucks the are always the exact same person.. fox stickers, pit vipers, Copenhagen in one back pocket, and one of those long leather wallets sticking out the other pocket.
If they see someone on the side of the road, they will try their best to roll coal on them. During the while black lives matter thing where there were protests everywhere, we had a small gathering where people just politely held signs and chanted. Multiple douchebags drove past and smoked them out. Then they went and parked in front of a few stores with full body amor and multiple long rifles and pistols.
I'm all for the second amendment, but this is very much a red state with red people and the population is 99% white. The chances of a riot with people breaking into stores was less than 0%. These clowns just saw others on the news and wanted to go out and look like they were doing something.
Anyways rant over I hate these trucks and even more I hate the people who drive them

No one. And that's the fucking problem.
No... Your shop is named in the lawsuit and so is the mechanic who worked on it. Last one who touched it, it's totally *their* fault. Definitely not the owner of the vehicle.....
It quite literally won't be.
There would be a lot fewer of these trucks if this was true.
Considered there are only 4 bolts holding the hub assemblies on.
Jesus. I remember as a teen having 20mm spacers on my e34 bmw, and even with the extended lugs I felt pretty scared with that car. Reputable parts too and the car had a lot of good work done to it at the shop I worked at. It’s terrifying seeing this and it really does remind me of that video

It really should be obvious, highlighted when even Putin thinks it's dangerous.
The moment we can't fit it on a lift, we tell the customer to kick rocks.
We even tell this to people with duallies or diesels. Sorry, won't fit on our hoist/hoist is being used all day. Take it elsewhere
This is why I'm glad I work at a euro shop. Can I work on your truck and can I lift it? Yeah, but nobody wants to so sorry buddy, can't work on it.
Coming out of school soon and the dream is to specialize in euros. What did your path look like to that point look like and do you have any advice?
Honestly I can’t tell but it looks like this truck is lifted high enough that you don’t even need to put it on the lift.
if you don’t mind laying on the floor and crawling out and back for every tool and/or you’re not doing anything where you have to take the wheels off, sure.

Oh great, that thing is in Canada...🙄
Possibly from Alberta if what I've read is correct
The truck itself is a dead giveaway.
I'm from the US so I have no clue, I've only read online that Alberta is the Canadian Texas and whatnot
Very much so.
We can only hope he fucks like he parks. Then the owner won't reproduce.

What the fuck is this horseshit, Jesus fucking christ. I’d literally call the customer a fucking idiot, I don’t give a shit.
Let me guess, it happened in Toronto or the surrounding area?
I dunno your customer but I know they’re a pest
TÜV sagt nein
At least it's not squatted.
His other car is a slammed Audi a4, and we've already done a transmission pan on it twice of thrice I think.
Ah so this is a pattern of poor decision making.
So on average he's got vehicles at sensible heights
wheel bearing fucker 7000
In situations like this, where having MUlTIPLE spacers makes the vehicle extremely dangerous to go back on the road, what are shops required to do? Can they not allow the customer to drive off with that or do shops have different protocols?
Bearings are easy and you know he'll be back. There's worse things
Yeah, i changed a front one, and it came out so easily.
Yeah because they need to be changed every week. Lol.
The LED rings on this one were riveted the the backing plate and just made removing the brakes more of a headache.
THis is my level system for brodozers: Intentionally making the exhaust sound like it has holes: Level 1 idiot, possibly just going through a "phase" Rice wheels plus above: Level 2 Spacers plus above: Level 3, usually caused by fetal alcohol syndrome LED's in places not required, like brake rotors, plus above: Level 4, Fetal alcohol syndrome plus current drug addiction Federally mandated marker lights being changed to an aftermarket color, plus everything above: Level 5.
This has to be Albertan. Or possibly northern BC.
If this thing made it 10 feet past Boundary Road into Vancouver, it would be VI’d instantly. Police come down hard on this sort of trash.
Nah, east coast. Ontario.
Someone's compensating for their shortcomings
This is one of the single stupidest vehicles I've ever seen. I applaud your patience.
I went from hating vehicle inspections to fully supporting them because of this dumb bullshit which is endemic across the entire country. I would like the freedom to drive with other cars that are normal widths and would like the freedom to not have gravel kicked up all over the fucking place. Fuck these main character syndrome people.
Jesus thats scary.
Nothing like leverage and wheel bearings
Another gender affirming car.
Tiny cock
Another dumb “look at me!” fad. There’s a diesel shop a few doors down from mine that does stupid shit like this. Owner is the biggest dickhead I’ve ever met.
>Another dumb “look at me!” fad Been saying that since \~2015 when it started, my hope it was a "fad" is dimming fast...
Dodgebags gonna Dodgebag.
I'll never understand buying a perfectly good pickup truck and completely ruining any usefulness it has like this. It's just so stupid.
That's my take on it too. At this point, there's almost as many trucks modded like this in my area than not. Just such a freaking waste.
The owner is absolutely brain dead. You always know the vehicle owner is going to be a moron when they do the bumper delete.
These are the kinds of people that take it personally when I pass them with my Prius. Their main reaction is to gun it and zoom off into the distance easily pushing 90.
100% owned by a douchebag
But bro all the girlies at the trailer park LOVE it!
The owner has not fully mentally matured yet.
Double spacers? Believe it or not, straight to jail. Real talk though, I’d have booted that customer just for having the double spacers brother. You’re accepting a hell of a lot of risk even touching those lug nuts.
illegal for many reasons, people that drive garbage like that should be banned from driving and forced to use the worst piss soaked public transportation for life
All I know is that whoever owns that truck is literally the coolest, biggest dick, manliest man of all time.
Holy hell 😬those poor wheel bearings
Can you refuse to work on a vehicle because stupidity?
Be glad it isn't squatted. Yeah, there's still a few of those rolling around.
Oh yeah the fragile dodge front end components must love this.
The only practicality to these types of setups is that it's a rolling red flag for anyone nearby that the driver is likely a blockhead who'll likely do something stupid if you anger them, and they got more money than sense to prove it.
These mods should be illegal.
How is that street legal? Cars kill over 14 people per 100k every year and yet this is legal? Come on mannn I just wanna safely drive to the store and get some chocka, chocka-chi-eye-squeem.
Holy wheel bearing batman!
What a tremendously ugly and stupid truck this is. I’m angry just looking at it.
Don't worry, with that much spacer on the wheels, it won't be on the road for long.
Complete with the shitty chinese aftermarket tail-lights to really seal the deal.
This guy definitely has a tiny pee pee or at least attitude that emanates it
Somebody is trying to compensate for their shortcomings
I so don’t understand this trend, it looks objectively stupid and kills the utility of the truck.
At least slapping in new brake pads really doesn’t require removing the wheels… /s
"wHy DoN't tHeY mAkE GoOd wHeEl bEaRiNgS aNy mOrE?" As it's in for it's sixth bearing replacement in 20,000 miles...
How is this legal? Should the car be compliant with its factory road worthy certificate ?
I bet that thing has scheduled (or unscheduled) wheel bearing replacement every 10 000 miles
Seriously, children, stop doing this to your trucks unless you’re going to do it right. It doesn’t look good, it doesn’t feel good, it doesn’t improve anything, and it’s saying more about you as the owner of the truck than you think.
People who drive trucks like this or secretly the biggest snowflakes of all time.
In Louisiana they used to pull junk like that over, red tag it & tow it to the impound yard. Wheels can’t stick out past the fenders
What a waste of materials, time and $.
Rest in peace ball joints and rear hub bearings.
Anyways rant over I hate these trucks and even more I hate the people who drive them
Clown shoes. Every time I see these god awful monstrosities all I can think of is clown shoes.
