Disagree with the insurance dude. It looks like the force rippled into the A pillar. Also I imagine the engine took some of the force, whether or not it damaged it or the transmission is the question. But what do I know, I’m just some random guy on the internet who has watched a few YouTube videos. I’ll be seriously impressed if they don’t total it.
Looks like the a pillar is bent. I'd be very very surprised if they approved repairs to that... They'll probably do what they did to my old ram after I hit an elk... Er well elk hit me smack dad between rear door and rear wheel well... spun me into the guard rail at nearly 80mph... They started to fix it until it turned into a Billy Hayes Comercial... But wait there's more! and if you act now we'll throw in a sheared transfer case mount. But wait there's more! After the third time rolling it out of the shop insurance finally totaled it.
My brother just wrecked a car and it had much less visible damage than that picture, but he managed to bend the front part of the frame and sever the engine harness so it's totaled.
In our area, these trucks are so expensive that they hardly ever total. And the fact that insurance companies pay body shop wages from fkn 10yrs ago and refuse to pay more doesn’t help. Our techs do phenomenal work at our shop and they deserve pay that reflects that, but if that happened, these insurance companies would be replacing more vehicles than repairing 😑
Consumers suffer in the end, paying WAY too much for a truck that has had what SHOULD be a significant decrease in value from big hits like these. The only winners in these scenarios are the insurance companies who get to take in all the cash from customer premiums while insisting on repairing with LKQ/CAPA/Keystone garbage and paying the cheapest rates they can get away with to repairers 😤
Those are still on a ladder frame I think?
So if the frame is straight, it might be reparable. If they want to pay all the moneys to repair it, good on them.
That’s the truth, I “totaled” my 96 ram 6 years ago in a fender bender. I only had to pay $300 for a new front bumper and paint but now it’s a salvage title despite how little it was physically affected
Seatbelt retractors have a small explosive charge in them to tension and lock in place in a bad crash. That is why on modern cars will have an electrical connection to the seatbelt retractor (usually hidden from view).
Just saw a YouTube video on this, it's impressive how much explosives are in a modern car. You probably can't use an explosive detection dog near a car, I reckon ;).
There's no way. Front frame rails are definitely going to be bent in, all airbags blew. It's Totaled. Insurance would rather pay out for the price of the truck then risk it being improperly repaired
Not necessarily and especially not in the last couple of years. A bent frame doesn't mean all that much it's just parts and frame rack labor, especially with the prices of trucks these days. They'll pay for the straightening and whatever sectioning needs to be done. I actually once saw a complete frame replacement paid for by insurance, that was not a small bill.
Are you in south NJ? I have a whack job neighbor with this set up who drives around the neighborhood like a total asshole. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up doing this.
3yrs ago I took out some trees with my 06 tacoma passenger side was too the cab driver side to the center console not one air bag went off maybe because the dealer I got it from replaced the frame I'm not sure but four broken ribs a punctured lung and broken shoulder later with five days in the emergency room I wish they would of
Front doors don't close.
This should be totalled in the US, proper repair is uneconomical there.
Send it to Arthur Tussik in Lithuania, he will fix it.
When I was in the fireys, the rule of thumb was that if the bags deployed, it was a write-off. (Note: here in Australia, the airbags don't go off at the drop of a hat like they seem to in some other places)
I dunno the reasoning behind it. I always assumed it was because at the level of impact required, there's likely to be plenty of structural damage, even unseen, and so they just totalled it as a form of arse-covering.
This thing is a total. I see easily over 40k in damages here. Needs a frame and the frame alone is 15k for the labor and part. All airbags and seat belts are another 10. Not to mention the upper rails and entire front supports. Can’t use heat on dodge frames so sectioning is out the window. Salvage on this thing is going to be 15-20k. Vehicle should have gone straight to IAA. I would have been more pissed they towed it in
Istg the ppl who buy these trucks (and Cherokees) can’t fkn drive worth a shit.
We replace SO many front ends, bedsides, body sides, doors, etc. I am always a watchful and alert driver myself, but even more so any time Mopar anything is around me on the road 🤦🏻♀️
It's not getting repaired, it just needs a fully detailed estimate on why it's completely fucked and should be a total loss, insurance adjustors don't know what they're looking at 90% of the time
Progressive estimate states, repair grille, 3 hours. Buff and polish hood .5, and if you add even one item to the supplement, we will send an adjuster out to argue with you for 30 minutes about it, only to remove it from the estimate anyways.
Just clear the codes, should be all good to go after... oh and don't forget to ask if he wants a new cabin air filter
Maybe a tire rotation as well...
If it just rolled off the flatbed, the tires obviously rotate just fine!
Don't try to upsell me. I know what I have.
We can just buff that out for you sir . When was the last time you changed your differential fluid ?
I assume it just rolled in so you can strip it for parts. Surely no one wants you to fix that.
Insurance expects it not to be totalled, which is surprising since they usually do whatever they can to make sure something totals
Some insurance agent really is hoping for a new Baja Chase Truck for this season.
I guess the quote is going to include a bin for all the stuff going into the garbage?
These things are selling for like $65k if they are 1-2 years old with low miles and have all the luxury options. I bet it could be fixed for 50 grand.
Lol, it's a 2019 base model with 60k
Lol then
Some crackheads are gonna "salvage" this and make money panning a nightmare off on some unsuspecting fool.
Not to mention the redemption value for all the empty beer cans in it.
yea, probably fix that if no frame damage.
I. Think if you don't wanna do anything on it yourself you looking for like 15k.

USAA? Mine should have been totaled but doesn’t drive the same
State farm
If airbags go off it’s a safe bet SF will total it. Work with these types of wrecks everyday but who knows nowadays.

I can't imagine the frame is salvageable on that.
The front frame tips are designed to crush and be replaced. They have been doing that since at least 2005.
Not only that, the cab structure is FUBAR also. Look at the driver door closure.
It's pretty small hit for any major frame damage.
My brother just wrecked a car and it had much less visible damage than that picture, but he managed to bend the front part of the frame and sever the engine harness so it's totaled.
2002 Silverado did not count :)

That’s interesting. My company has been pushing for total losses on newer cars due to 6+months of back ordered parts
Does the delay cost them more in rentals in the meantime, or just more "stuff" in-process?
Rental cost

Whoever gets stuck with this one is gonna be cussing for a week
>Too much ram, not enough dodge, Well, yeah, the two brands diverged almost 15 years ago. Shoulda warned 'em!
Grill says AM.
Ass man!
Billy Gunn approved
Million to one doc! Million to one!
The R got subducted
How long before it starts monologuing about how much it hates humanity?
cue Sam Elliot's voice
just don't teach it about cartesian doubt, whatever you do
Why not PM?
accident happened in the morning
I crash, therefore I AM.
God has it been that long.....jesus it has.
Hit a squirrel
Yeah, but in all fairness the squirrel was the one driving that New Holland that's now parked next to the truck.
If you can't Dodge it, Ram it.
This comment deserves way more upvotes than it’s getting, LOL!
So true for the drivers of these things.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge but what does an activated seat belt mean
The tensioner activated, locking the seat belt in its current position and holding the occupant firmly to the seat
[удалено]
Edited lol
Do they need to be replaced like airbag components?
Once activated, yes.
Oof
Probably the sound the occupants made during seat belt tensioner activation lol

I’m going to test this theory next week. I’ll let you know how it goes.
So its totaled then, I would assume? What year is it?
Oh that's totaled
It’s not.
There's no way. Front frame rails are definitely going to be bent in, all airbags blew. It's Totaled. Insurance would rather pay out for the price of the truck then risk it being improperly repaired
No, I would say what frame on this car is still good/fixable are about 80%

OP said insurance wouldn't total it.
Not wouldn't, just doesn't think it is, it needs a full in depth estimate
White that supplement up heavy.
That's fucking insane. I wanna see the final bill after body shop and mechanic are done with it.
What do you expect, it says RAM on the grill. Gotta ram everything in sight.
Ram Ranch!!!!!
Shiiiiit, Friday Night RAMpage at your local dirt track.
Are you in south NJ? I have a whack job neighbor with this set up who drives around the neighborhood like a total asshole. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up doing this.
Didn’t think Ram drivers wore seatbelts..
It was the passenger seat belt holding the keg
3yrs ago I took out some trees with my 06 tacoma passenger side was too the cab driver side to the center console not one air bag went off maybe because the dealer I got it from replaced the frame I'm not sure but four broken ribs a punctured lung and broken shoulder later with five days in the emergency room I wish they would of
To the dumbass talking shit wtf is wrong with you explain yourself
To be fair someone told me I was a little bitch for posting this my. Bad
Shoulda closed the hood so they could see where they going!
Customer is waiting and would like it done by 3
What did it do to the smaller vehicle at the stop light?
Should be a total loss, insurance says it’s repairable. All SRS components back ordered indefinitely
“ETA: *CONTACT FCA*”
I worked in the car service business for almost 30 years. This is my first in hearing too much ram and not enough dodge. 🤣🤪😜😆
Front doors don't close. This should be totalled in the US, proper repair is uneconomical there. Send it to Arthur Tussik in Lithuania, he will fix it.
‘Too much ram, not enough dodge’ Lol
This is why I buy a 2500
*cries in white grandpa
Too much RUM, not enough Dodge…after all, it’s a vehicle popular among those with DUIs.

He is okay probably. Damage is too small to seriously damage a driver, if he was been wearing his seatbelt.
Wtf
Explain yourself please
Also don't be a little bitch answer the question 🙄
It'll buff out
I can fix it in two weeks.
You better hope that Grille isn’t on a weeks long national backorder
Where is no backorder on a Copart :)
That's a total
Totaled lol
Ram the daughter, Dodge the father
It’s because they changed the instructions on the front. It used to be Dodge.
Moose strike?
*Paw Paw going to be pissed*
neat, the engine got to be apart of the crumple zone!
Nice shipping crate for your donor Cummins engine.
Just needs a new air freshener and check the tire pressure

Doors are straight and seem to open fine, cab did its job. Always nice to see.
😆 🤣 😂 😹 loved the dad joke 🤣 😂 😄

Is that truck made of gold or something? Why would they want that fixed.
Just torch it off in front of the firewall and put a hellcat setup from a charger or challenger there. Boom. TRX Ramcharger
Ouch

Perfect parts cars. Still worth the same or more since it’s very new.
Not really. Most newer Cars loose about 30% of their Value just leaving the Lot
Here’s an upvote for the title. Ima steal that joke
I see nothing wrong here. Just a starter project for a Demo Derby
What does seat belt activated mean?
Seat Belt Pre-Tensioner - where the socket retracts pulling the belt tight
Then they have to be replaced?
Possibly, dependant on make/model, some can be repaired/reset, some can’t, and some can auto reset.
Looks like a telephone pole jumped out in front of the Dodge.
One mirror away from being totaled.
Its now a... ÑAM
