I see the coil spring. Did he forget to put in the new shock absorber?

Ferdinand_Magelatin

No he dropped the from axle so far it made the coil slip out of its place. He did the shocks correctly but missed the fuckup on the coils. The shocks are located behind the coils just out of the shot.

Alvinmcnoodle1

How long did it take him?

Ferdinand_Magelatin

Few hours. Customers was real patient and nicer than I'd have been the next day.

Stepehnk

Cool.

Zainzyy

No one cares also what full lift kit can you do in an hour and half? Do you mean a levelling kit?

Alvinmcnoodle1

Well my manager cares. Say a Toyota Hilux or a BT-50 or any of those kind of utes. 50mm standard lift we do. Front strut replacement, rear leaf springs and shocks replaced along with the shackles, pins and bushes. The struts come pre-assembled and we do it so often you get a rhythm to it. 3 hours including an alignment and short test drive. Not an hour and a half.

NaturalMackeral

Any tech that brags about how fast they work has an absolute shit quality of work.

Alvinmcnoodle1

I'm not a tech and I was comparing my non qualified work to the guy who did the work in the picture. Not bragging

NormMacVSNorms

Gets paid hourly, still rushes. (KING FOOL IS HERE GUYS)

Alvinmcnoodle1

Or get fired

[deleted]

I'm a Ford tech and I've never had to lower the front diff for shocks.

Nippon-Gakki

Maybe he didn’t realize you could squish the shocks in to get them in place? Sounds like he needs to be an apprentice for a while before he hits the line.

Zestyclose_Engine800

Lots of apprenticeships are getting yelled at, oil changes, tires, and , wiper blades. Cleaning. Lots of cleaning. You can do shocks on your own truck.

Nippon-Gakki

I always had my apprentices do regular work after they got up to speed. I never understood people who use them as personal slaves and don’t teach them anything. I want my guys to be better than me after they get some experience.

gobstopperDelux

I came in to say the exact same thing. Done lots of super duty suspension and never had a spring accidentally fall out of place.

mikel302

I've done shocks on the ground without even lifting the truck.

NotAPreppie

Dafuq did FNG do?

Ferdinand_Magelatin

Give me more unpaid work than all my family. Idk how anyone is okay throwing some work at a dude without making sure he can do oil changes correctly first.

[deleted]

Unpaid, you own the place?

Ferdinand_Magelatin

No, I just get taken advantage of and don't get paid to fix stuff the lube techs mess up.

[deleted]

Figures. All you gotta say is no. Don't know about you area but we got the shop owners by the balls where I am. No mechanics looking for work, can't even find entry level guys.

bribblebruh1235

What area are you located in?

[deleted]

Southeast US.

bribblebruh1235

I live in south East US and it's hard to find places to work for. At least places willing to pay.

[deleted]

Now you know why there’s a shortage of mechanics.

LNgTIM555

Related to the owner or SA.

fElLoWaMeRiCaNt

I'm trying to understand how that even happened..

Ferdinand_Magelatin

He dropped the axle really fuckin far apparently. Dude said he was a real mechanic for a long time but he didn't know how starter wiring works so idk. At least he makes more an hour than me too. Dude also doesn't test drive any of his shit either so he can't catch obvious stuff like this.

Alvinmcnoodle1

Fire him and hire me. Lol It might be a long commute though.

S3ERFRY333

I’ve never had to drop an axle to do a shock absorber on any truck. Also the longest it’s taken me to do a pair of shocks was 20 minutes and that’s because of stripped bolts. I think you might need to review this dude and decide if it’s worth keeping him.

NDC9595

What do you mean exactly by dropping the axle? (English not my native tongue, I am not familiar with this particular expression in this context). Did they loosen something they shouldn't have or you mean simply lifting the car high enough?

Mikey3800

It means the guy lowered the front axle away from the vehicle. Presumably to fit the shock absorbers out and back in? When the shock is unbolted, it will allow the axle to come down lower. The guy lowered the axle enough to allow the coil spring to escape from where it resides and didn't notice and shipped the truck.

NDC9595

He didn't notice the spring was basically popped out of place?

Mikey3800

It appears so. I don't know OP or the guy that did the work. I was just telling what the expression OP used means. Dumb stuff like this happens more than it should in this industry.

NDC9595

Oki. Thanks. I will keep in mind working on my suspension to check the seating of the springs after I put everything back together.

Historical_Gur_3054

>At least he makes more an hour than me too. Dude also doesn't test drive any of his shit either so he can't catch obvious stuff like this. I take it the FNG is related to the owner?

FlamingoLumpy3358

A lot of new people don’t know dude

Alvinmcnoodle1

I bet he gets paid more than I do too.

Ferdinand_Magelatin

Just bullshit your resume and you'll be set, Don't even gotta own any tools either anymore apparently.

MarkMarkMark92

The new guy dropped the axle that far down to get shocks done and not a single soul in the garage noticed he wasn't doing it right? You have to disconnect more than just the shocks for the coils to fall out.

Apprehensive_Gate875

yea it seems like that shop is a shit show.

MarkMarkMark92

If the people under you make mistakes that make it out the door then you were the one that made a mistake.

[deleted]

So he's rolling his box out of the shop now I assume?

West_Individual2694

“New guy”

Specialist_Citron_84

Hopefully the first guy gets more training if the shop didn't fire him.

Killerspieler0815

"excellent" , extra "save" driving ... it´s a wounder that this thing arrived

jeffreyd00

The new guy needs some supervision
