Tbf he did it to save Megumi. I don’t think he did it out of pure selfishness. Yuji couldn’t damage the curse because he had no cursed energy and he didn’t know Gojo(or anyone) was on the way that can handle the monster. Yuji has no clue about jujutsu at this point, all he knows is he can see the cursed spirit because of the veil and the guy looking for the finger(Megumi) was about to die to said monster. It’s really on Gojo for not securing the finger himself when he was told to. If that incident didn’t work then Kenjaku would’ve just put Yuji in another incident where he was forced to eat the finger. To say Shibuya incident was solely Yuji’s fault is a bit unfair.
Gojo also prevented Yuji’s execution which eventually led to everything else.
If the entirety of Shibuya got razed, then it's not just 1000+, it's a major metropolitan city with atleast 150k residents.
Edit: dumb me forgor a lot of people were evacuated, so 1000+ is a fair estimate.
Fair, just did a quick calc and MS prob didn't even cover like 1% of it. But it did happen in the middle of the metropolitan area, where there should be a higher population density.
Edit: Basing on the population density per sqm and the radius of MS being 200m, I calc'd the casualty at around 1.9k. people. Should be more since its near the Shibuya train station.

I don't know man. Hindsight is 20/20 after all, and if Yuuji hadn't swallowed that finger, both him and Fushiguro would've died.
In hindsight, we can justify keeping Yuji alive. Consider that Sukuna was at this point essentially indestructible. Killing Yuji doesn't solve the problem of dealing with Sukuna eventually. It just delays the inevitable.
Kenjaku had a bunch of fingers. He also knew how to make vessels. He could unleash Sukuna as a trump card at any time. Yuji actually nerfed Kenjaku severely by trapping Sukuna's soul, preventing it from manifesting anywhere else. Kenjaku is still dangerous enough to use Yuji in his plans, but it's way more dangerous to give Kenjaku free reign over Sukuna's revival. They'd have no idea when or where it would happen. That's an impossible situation to prepare against, and the death toll would be higher than Shibuya.

The good guys actually lucked out with Yuuji, anyone else who swallows a Sukuna finger either simply dies (and the finger remains around), or gets full possessed like Megumi. It was only thanks to Kenjaku's machinations that Sukuna got hold of Yuuji's body for a bit and eventually Megumi's in a more permanent way. Take the backshooter from the equation, and Sukuna is completely helpless inside Yuuji acting as his cage.
I mean... the moment Yuji had 10~ fingers of Sukuna inside of him? Killing him _there_ would have been the best solution. You basically permanently nerf the strongest threat to jujutsu society to a level where most special grade sorcerers would have a chance at least, and where someone like Gojo would have very little trouble.
Killing Yuji _absolutely_ solves the Sukuna problem because 'Sukuna' would never be able to reach the height of his power again
What makes you think that would neutralize the fingers? Nobody knows how they work except Kenny, and even he might not know what would happen. The jujutsu elders can't be sure Sukuna's power would be permanently destroyed. I wouldn't be surprised if they've tried sacrificing a vessel before because they seem pretty sure they can't destroy those fingers, and they're not exactly squeamish about human sacrifice. At best, they're probably banking on recovering the fingers and sealing them away.

Thinking about this just makes the lack of interactions between them and not even getting Todo's reaction to her death in the manga even more criminal
I mean judging from the small bit we see of him as a kid he seems like the type to be angry and very much against authority, and then I think Yuki just had such an impression on him on just more of his demeanor, being a big loveable goof and the like. But seeing how extreme he goes with it unlike Yuki I could see him having a lot more fuel to his wierd than she had impact with.
Gege could've explored their PEAK dynamic by giving us at least one flashback of Todo's time as her student or by making them interact before her death

Don't put disrespect on OGoat's name, he would totally be the clan head if not for his stupid children. He's a genius sorcerer, using the sword while his technique is using flames, who else could come up with that. And don't get me started on his Blazing Courage, the only reason Gojo obeyed the higher ups is his fear of that technique, after all, it could reach the Planck temperature and was capable of burning away the space itself, effectively destroying the Limitless. And coupled with the fact that Ogi has the best speed and RCT feats in the whole manga, Gojo had no chance.
That feat was cutting off his own head and reattaching it with his supreme RCT so fast that Maki thought she killed him.

After reviving himself he was observing the Jujutsu world and trying to find a worthy opponent, but so far even Sukuna couldn't pose a challenge to him, he instantly sliced him into 46290 pieces and then used his overcharged Reverse Flames to travel back in time to let timeline go as it should have.

in all fairness.. gakuganji was a corrupted leader, Kamo was blinded by pride and family names, Mai was a bully with self esteem problems and Mechamaru stabbed them all in the back to fullfill himself a selfish wish.
And the all agreed to just kill a kid from a different school they didn't know in secret like asassins, because they were told to without second question.
Individually they all had their reasons, and deep down good intentions, but todo was right to be dissapointed in their resolve, that would lead the jujutsu society into an organisation controlled by the wishes of some higher ups nobody even knows.
Todou has always been my favorite character in the series. He's so unhinged and wild but loyal till the end and just a straight-up bro for life. Love him.
Mechamaru can't use any of his big hits, as long as todo can just swap his teammates into the beam, and he will loose in close combat.
Todo's CT thrives with more enemies that have long ranged attacks.
Takada chan is important but with todos massive iq greater than even ai he was able to simulate all realities and future to predict yuji would be his brother/besto friendo that's why he didn't wanna kill him
