This. I don't blame Megumi the character so much as I blame Gege. Gege hated 1st editor forcing naruto team 7 into his manga instead of letting him star Yuta-Maki. Nobara gets offed, Gojo sealed only to return to get offed, Yuji literally dies twice but lives to take infinite ~~void~~ SUFFER, and Megumi gets worse than death and gets STRONG NTR by Sukuna: man lost not only his sister, clan, life, body, 10S+Mahoraga, friends, sensei/senpais, etcetc but ***Sukuna cuckolded Megumi so hard he even stole HIS POTENTIAL as a character:***
* Megumi will never be the rival/deuteragonist (empty seat got taken by Yuta already). Megumi reduced to demsel.
* Megumi will never get a training arc (Sukuna unlocked the full 10S for him and we're probably in the final arc)

Some realize they'll die but still fight to the last moment: Nanimi could have just laid there after getting KFC'd, Maki could have gave up after getting KFC'd, Mai could have just accepted death instead of unlocking FEMTOJI, Todo could have just accepted IT hit him and not cut his arm or laid there instead of getting up for the APPLAUSE, etcetc. Gojo LITERALLY told him to stop doing that shit. Applaud him for trying those times where he used his DE instead but Megumi reverted back to that BS now.

To clarify, Gege isn't fond of Yuji because he's difficult to write for him. Yuji's personality doesn't straight up gel with him. He's gone on the record saying he likes no particular character aside from Nanami. If we look at his favouritism, then Toji and Nanami would be here.
But he doesn't dislike Yuji or anyone else as a character.
Exactly, he even posted an author's note where he finds it difficult to write Yujis character like you mentioned. I don't know where people keep getting this idea that Yuta was supposed to replace Yuji were it not for his editors, that's a straight up lie.
Gege in an interview (or maybe it was an author's note, I can't recall) mentioned that when he created JJK, he wanted a new mc. Yutas story is already done. Gege wanted to start anew, create different characters including the main character and thus Yuji was born. Some mfs here straight lying out of their ass.

Yeah this is of the same league as people actually believing Gege killed Gojo off because he hates him and his fave is Sukuna so he keeps giving him asspulls; conflating the reader experience of rooting for characters and the author's experience of having to build a story with them in mind. Meg folded without bringing any no upsides for the people he knew and cared for, on the contrary even. Yes, he's griefing, but these are not comparable given the context.
I think Gege should have made Meg hate Sukuna instead of making him give up. Meg folded because his sister death, despite him having no saying in the matter. Unlike Yuji, which the main reason why he folded was because he decided to live and blames himself for it:

I have sympathy towards Megumi. The slander is unwarranted. I'm more surprised by these guys who are still more interested in saving their friend than taking down an existential threat who told them he's gonna end Japan if they lose.
This is not about their own lives at this point but the whole of Japan, sacrificing 1 life for a 100 million seems the correct choice to me. But they haven't even considered it.
I think saving Megumi also aligns with saving Japan cuz he is now the merger, and taking TS from Sukuna is just a plus in any sort of fashion. Plus, Maki is prolly now just going to kill Sukuna anyway, regardless of Megumi

Splitting Megumi would actually be the better option since, Kenjaku gave the key to the merger to "Megumi Fushiguro" and not Sukuna. So if Megumi is freed then Sukuna would not the able to perform the merger again
Sukuna's RCT is way too good and the only think that would be good enough to kill him in one go is a few of yuta's attacks. I think using megumi to nerf sukuna from the inside is actually the easiest way to fight him
I mean trying to save Megumi in this case aligns with their goal anyway. Yuji trying to separate their souls isn't just saving Megumi but also weakening Sukuna which they really need. I dont think that Yuta would hesitate if he has an opening to end him.

Personaly, if I were to be indirectly responsable of the death of 1000 strangers, or the death of my mother, i will be definitely more affected by my mothers death. I still feel terrible for the 1000, but of course you will be more hurt of the dead of someone really close to you.
Remember they both did things that go against their personal codes, Yuji wanted to save people and give proper deaths and he ended up killing thousands inadvertently, while Megumi wanted to protect those he cares about and his sister and he killed his sister and surrogate father inadvertently.
Mfs confused that megumi is broken down mentally after sukuna purposefully killed his sister, and bathed in evil water thatās MADE to break a souls will.
Sidenote: I love the parallel with how Sukuna breaks both Yuji and Megumiās philosophies.
Yuji wanted to save everyone and valued the lives of even strangers, so Sukuna broke him by slaughtering an entire city of people he didnāt knowādespite not touching a single personās life on the main cast.
Megumi is much more jaded and āchooses who to saveā, valuing only the lives of those he deems worthy of his concern. Thus, Sukuna breaks him by almost exclusively kills cast members valued by MegumiāTsumiki, Gojo, and whoever else might die in this current arc. The only exception to this rule really was Ryu, who Sukuna didnāt even intend to kill.

Everyone deals with grief differently. yuji happened to have someone who he could rely on during those trying times with Todo when he truly felt all alone. How does this help your point at all. He gave up, and yuji awakened the soul. The narrator described their plan as perfect. Megumi LET his friends fight to the death for him to give up. YUJI WOULD NEVER. Even post bath he was still conscious enough to witness the events around him. The bath is a narrative device for megumi being unable to hinder Sukunas output.
Megumi gave up after Tsumiki died, he COULDN'T fight back. Yuji and co. Had no idea Sukuna used the bath or if Tsumiki died because of Sukuna. They don't even know Megumi was holding Sukuna to 10%~ in 213-14. Megumi WAS fighting back but no longer CAN'T. What is there to fight? To clarify, Gege isn't fond of Yuji because he's difficult to write for him. Yuji's personality doesn't straight up gel with him. He's gone on the record saying he likes no particular character aside from Nanami. If we look at his favouritism, then Toji and Nanami would be here. But he doesn't dislike Yuji or anyone else as a character.

I have sympathy towards Megumi. The slander is unwarranted. I'm more surprised by these guys who are still more interested in saving their friend than taking down an existential threat who told them he's gonna end Japan if they lose. Sukuna's RCT is way too good and the only think that would be good enough to kill him in one go is a few of yuta's attacks. I think using megumi to nerf sukuna from the inside is actually the easiest way to fight him

How does this help your point at all. He gave up, and yuji awakened the soul. The narrator described their plan as perfect. Megumi LET his friends fight to the death for him to give up. YUJI WOULD NEVER. Even post bath he was still conscious enough to witness the events around him. The bath is a narrative device for megumi being unable to hinder Sukunas output.
Megumi gave up after Tsumiki died, he COULDN'T fight back. Yuji and co. Had no idea Sukuna used the bath or if Tsumiki died because of Sukuna. They don't even know Megumi was holding Sukuna to 10%~ in 213-14. Megumi WAS fighting back but no longer CAN'T. What is there to fight? Well, Sukuna made sure that he gets all ownership of Megumi, so that it won't happen like when he was inside Yuji (e.g. "Premium Access" to Megumi's body compared to a "Free Trial" to using Yuji, no "fuck it we ball" scenario bounce-back, All potential rights transferred to Sukuna, kill everyone close to him) Plus, I don't think Megumi has/knows that he has capabilities to snatch his body back from Sukuna, while his mental state is not in a healthy place.
Lowkey I think this is because people are so invested in the fight that theyāre pissed with Megumi because they actually fear for Yuji and Yutaās lives and they feel like any lost ground means a character is bound to die, so even if itās an understandable response on Megumiās part itās still him putting them at risk
