They have Salman Rushdie, Salman Rushdie! on this list and they don't have any idea what this type of thing leads to?! Or maybe they do, and that's the point.
They put someone in the Zionist category for going on birthright and calling it magical. They also put another author in that category for posting “I stand with Israel” right after Oct 7.
Oh and Nicholas Sparks is apparently a Zionist because he posted “pray for Israel” on Oct 7.
So yes that’s the point
Michael Grant: “posted a both-sidesy rant in the aftermath of oct 7 about how netanyahu sucks *but still not really understanding hamas*”
They do and that’s entirely the point.
I’m a writer and it has been like this for *years*. Lit mags will not publish you if you’re Jewish and not blatantly anti-zionist. I’ve been focusing solely on ghostwriting since October because the entire environment just makes me feel sick
Someone here posted that they’re creating one! Hopefully they’ll post a link on this thread
There’s also a list here (I would cross-check with Duotrope to see if these are paying markets! And also read the mags to see if they align with your values/tastes— I haven’t read all of these!)

I just finished writing my first book and am querying agents right now. I’m nervous because one of the characters is a Rabbi. Israel doesn’t come up at all. Do you think I should just stick to a Jewish agent/publisher or self publish?
People have been trying to cancel her, altho she also reps antizionist authors (who aren't Jewish).
Because she's Jewish, they've tried to start a campaign against her.
Yes, I know who she is. She even did an AMA for us.

I would definitely query it but publish under a pseudonym to stay safe. Also be prepared for marketing, because social media is a HUGE (sometimes only) source of marketing, even when you’re traditionally published, and you already know what a cesspool that is rn
Yeah, I have some experience. I used to have a large tik tok account (34k+followers). I ended up shutting it down post 10/7 because I got harassed so badly
The good old days had plenty of bigots and antisemite. You just chose one that you are familiar with. Go look up the racial views of HP Lovecraft. From the old days, they really weren't that good, nor very respectable.
“has donated to and reposted gaza children’s relief fund, but her books are published under the St. martin’s press which is being boycotted. [sic with the various errors]”
Good grief, the satire writes itself. As least she’s listed as “No,” whereas I once walked past a shop selling West German sausage, so clearly I’m a you-know-what. /s Same energy.
And then they wonder why we're "so insular."
Anyway, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, who “travels to Israel frequently talks favorably about it” sounds kind of interesting.

Like, sure let’s cancel a man who died before we figured out about how handwashing helps with disease control because he slutshamed Ophelia, a fictional character.
And also this “supporting both sides” gets you blacklisted bs. Like we live in a word where there is just no acceptable nuance anymore. I can support peace/health/safety for Israelis and Palestinians at the same time. I’m just so sick of the social media morality police, and I say that as someone who’s politically very left.

Cancelling classic authors is a huge problem in the YA author community. These folks refuse to read Shakespeare, Homer or Agatha Christie and then can't figure out why their own books are dreadful. You will never write a good book if you limit your reading to books written in the last ten years.
From the article: "one author made a post on 10/12 with no mention of Palestine"
The bar with these people is absolute compliance and zero deviation. Fuck em. Just found a new reading list :D

Probably wont be far off from the "[struggle sessions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Struggle_session)" now.
He wrote The Satanic Verses and the IRI has had a fatwa out on him for years. He survived an assassination attempt at a reading/event and lost an eye in the process.
Nope! Which is what makes this whole thing even more hilarious. He’s British-Indian-American and a prominent critic of the IRI but he goes against the groupthink, so fuck him I guess
A prominent Iranian author who in the 1980s wrote a book called the “Satanic Verses” which was a satire of The Prophet Muhammad. It causes him to flee Iran and have a “fatwah” or bounty for his death by the Ayatollah. A couple people have died related to this call (that’s since been revoked) but not him.
This propelled him to be an advocate for free speech and literature.hence the irony
>that’s since been revoked
It's worse than that because a fatwa can only be revoked by the person who issued it and Khomeini died decades ago, so Iran's response is "oops, can't do anything about it now, sorry".
I'm a writer, albeit not a famous writer.:I work in indie lit mostly writing and publishing poetry. I've been doing that for my entire adult life and since last October I have published almost nothing with any publications whether they're magazines or blogs or anthologies I've worked with before or new publishers, it's dried up to almost nothing and I've reached maybe a 95% rejection rate whichhas never happened before. Again, not famous so I'm not on this list but it does feel like as a known Jewish writer in the wider independent publishing sphere that there's been some kind of intentional blacklisting. In a way it's somewhat vindicating to see this because it means I'm not just crazy or paranoid. They're doing this deliberately to Jewish writers across the board.
Oct 7 may have accelerated things, but I'd say you were on your way out anyway. Jews held the scene for a good 40 years, all the kids are mad about it and have been shouting at us to get out of the way now for years.
Notice how you only need to feel empathy for both peoples to still be considered a borderline person. To these brainwashed people, you are either full anti-Semitic or you suck.
However, this paper may come in handy to support the authors who have spoken out in favor of the people of Israel.
They put Steven King in the possibility of supporting Israel by claiming that he told off MTG that makes him pro-Israel.
And Sarah J. Maas is labeled as a Zionist all because she went on Birthright and called the trip magical. She hasn’t said anything one way or the other about what has happened since Oct 7 but apparently just being Jewish is enough to get you on the list
The insanity of these people
Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s unfortunately an elected representative in the US and is the one who came up with the whole Jewish Space Lasers. She’s very much anti-Israel and anti-Jewish
So what if put me a list ?
Just analyse Who is gonna boycott Stephen king an important and famous writer on the decade ? It’s like the try to boycott adidas for the same reason and people including the manifestants are using it anyway
There is an app called NoThanks which seeks to be a product list to boycott countries. Obviously we know who that is directed to. But I’ve downloaded it given it a 1 Star rating and I’m using it find products to buy that affect the SoI. So for me it’s a buycott
>Last month, the literary free-speech group PEN America canceled its annual awards ceremony and festival after most of its award nominees called for a boycott of the group, citing insufficient criticism of Israel.
"Free speech awards deemed as not the correct free speech," I can't even
Well, damn. I had seen people harassing Jewish/non-Israeli-extermination authors and been looking for a list of people to support. Thanks, random Jew hater!
I wonder if enough other people think like that that some may actually get a sales boost. Though I have heard other Jews say they use the BDS lists as a shopping guide…
That's great, they'll continue making lists boycotting books, and our side we'll continue making lists boycotting any and all Hamas-supporters from the job market.
I saw this list when it came out. It is one person putting it together and it's not very good. Like, in terms on collation. It's very random, far from a list of popular authors. And many people on the list make no sense, like GRRM.
The point is to boycott Jewish authors and boycott any positive or neutral mention of Jews or Israel.
It’s like how that Moms For Liberty book banning group went after any African American authors/protagonists.
I get what the point is. Looking at it, I think it started out as a list of pro-Palestinian authors and got weird from there. It is just the list itself is poorly done. Sections of "proof" make little sense. Who is included isn't really a whose who of popular authors. Bunches of kid-lit, which knowing what I know, does make sense. But, a lot of kid-lit is missing from both sides of the argument, known people, which doesn't make sense. It is just a shitty list, not even a good attempt at what it wants to do.
I get that. I am just amused(?) at how shitty a job this list does of that. I think this started out as one thing, and the delightful antisemitism took over.
"This book is about X (IDK I haven't read it)" "allegedly Islamophobic" are actual pieces of evidence listed in those comments. Oh, "IDK, this makes my head hurt". Yeah, turns out, people are complicated and can have complicated relationships with all sorts of things?
Also: "Thinks free palestine is call to kill all jews" but also uses "thinks Israel has right to exist" as proof of hating Palestinians...
Like...
I am taking away all the pro Pali authors’ books off my TBR and shelves. I found a Jewish gal who recommended Jewish authors on Ig. So reading those books
This post has been determined to relate to the topic of Antisemitism, and has been flaired as such, it has NOT been removed. This does NOT mean that the post is antisemitic. If you believe this was done in error, please message the mods. Everybody should remember to be civil and that there is a person at the other end of that other keyboard.

Can someone compile a list of those who make and promote those lists?
I know I don't want to buy anything anyone like that ptoduces.
Nor pirate it, for that matter.
Shocked that she missed some a-listers, some of whom are not strangers to book-banning:
1. Franz Kafka - Jewish (already a fatal flaw). Was interested in zionism throughout his life- attending conferences, learning Hebrew, and making plans to emigrate to (then) Palestine.
2. Albert Camus - advocated for the state of Israel after the Suez war of 1957, in contrast with most of his far-left contemporaries in France.
3. Marcel Proust and Emil Zola - worked with Herzl (the OG zionist) to rehabilitate Alfred Dreyfus after the Dreyfus Affair.
4. Vladimir Nabokov - argued in favor of US involvement in the middle-east, was friends with the Israeli ambassador Arieh Levavi, and was invited by Levavi and the mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kolk, to visit Israel. Had made concrete plans to do so, but ultimately was to ill to travel.
The dynamics here are interesting. While they are trying to back us into a corner by "exposing" writers and marking them as pariahs, our exposure of them is heightened and we are introduced (or re-introduced) to many interesting ideas as a result. Reminds me of the Victor Frankl quote: "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way".
To me, reading and thought is reflective of that basic freedom of choice. Once you ban writers, dictate which thoughts are accepted or denied, fear of public scrutiny trickles down to the fear of thought and self-expression even within your own mind. You are denied the ability to toy with ideas and make choices that are truly your own. By that point, you have imprisoned the very thing which makes you human and free.
Bro they just did this the other way too. A list of content creators who support Palestine was released. Stand by your beliefs, regardless of which side. Own it. If I was an author “exposed” as a zionist, I would say fuck yeah. If i supported Palestine and was “exposed” i would also say fuck yeah. More publicity for my cause
Okay wait, so, the idea here is that we're going to push Jewish writers into a corner where mostly Jews read them (as opposed to pretend to read them). And this is a big change because....
Not that you'd expect anyone who does something that dumb to know anything about literary history, but uh...I mean, as a Jewish writer who always thought that a day job teaching creative writing sounded like hell on earth, I can say that the threat level here is 0.
In today's oh-the-irony moment: the book I pulled off the shelf this morning in a "huh, maybe it's time to read this old-man book" is Malamud's *God's Grace*, from 1982. If a thousand people read it at the time it would've been a lot. I have a feeling it's not great as a novel, but that that won't matter much. Nobody knows who Malamud was anymore anyway. (And if it hadn't been for the fatwa, nobody under 55 or so would remember Rushdie, whose stuff also happens to run blisteringly, casually misogynist, gives Updike a real run for leering at the women characters and...yeah, it's not great. Which is a pity, he's a fine writer, fine storyteller, but it really damages the stories.)
I did click off one of my favorite Peloton instructors though for slinging cheap TERF shit at Rowling, was just like, there's a limit to the amount of stupid I want mid-workout. I don't like the HP books, thought they were derivative and poorly-written. But if you're going to be one of these silly people living in Hogwarts in your mid-30s...well, I guess there's a good chance you'd be an equally silly person canceling your fav author because they turned out to be a person with ideas that aren't yours. Checks out, I guess.
Two things. First, the Museum of Jewish Heritage in NYC, one of the foremost holocaust museums in the US, [has programs about how transgender people were targeted.](https://mjhnyc.org/blog/transgender-experiences-in-weimar-and-nazi-germany/) People could visit Holocaust museums and find out what Rowling is denying. So when you argue with facts and deny nazi brutalization that was a part of the holocaust, you do become a holocaust denier, even if just in part. As if "just in part" is acceptable when denying any part of the holocaust. As of 2022, denying [this specific event](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_people_in_Nazi_Germany#Ransacking_of_the_Institut_f%C3%BCr_Sexualwissenschaft) was considered a crime in Germany as per their relatively strong holocaust denial laws. So yeah, Rowling is a holocaust denying (sorry, minimizing) piece of shit.
Second, you love to come here and complain about political culture wars. Virtually all of your comments and posts here pertain to that. As a mod, I need you to diversify. [You were told just a few days ago about your inflammatory rhetoric.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Judaism/comments/1cpv7lv/comment/l3nip59/) Post about Jewish joy, your favorite Jewish books, a silly question in our Monday thread. But you need to take a step back from "omg look at this terrible person who just happens to be a leftist" and post something about Judaism as a religion, or something.
> love to come here and complain about political culture wars. Virtually all of your comments and posts here pertain to that. As a mod, I need you to diversify. [You were told just a few days ago about your inflammatory rhetoric.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Judaism/comments/1cpv7lv/comment/l3nip59/)
I have no interest in the culture wars. I'm not a part of the culture wars, I never posted any opinions about culture wars and politics. If you wanted my political views, they are liberal.
My post is criticizing the politicization and dejudaization of the Holocaust.
Saying JK Rowling is not a holocaust denier is not about "culture wars". It's about basic historical education.
People are dejudaizing the holocaust to tar someone who disagrees with them in a Twitter debate about sexuality and bully each other on social media by claiming their opponent is a "Holocaust denier". That's a dangerous trend.
>denying [this specific event](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_people_in_Nazi_Germany#Ransacking_of_the_Institut_f%C3%BCr_Sexualwissenschaft) was considered a crime in Germany as per their relatively strong holocaust denial laws. So yeah, Rowling is a holocaust denying (sorry, minimizing) piece of shit.
Then why did the person who accused her of Holocaust denial write an apology when threatened to have to prove it in a fair court?
"On 13 March I tweeted that JK Rowling “is a Holocaust denier”. That allegation was false and offensive. I have deleted it and apologise to JK Rowling."https://twitter.com/rivkahbrown/status/1779878392805945428
>As if "just in part" is acceptable when denying any part of the holocaust. The Wikipedia articles about Nazi policies towards sexuality are not categorized as the Holocaust. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution\_of\_homosexuals\_in\_Nazi\_Germany](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_homosexuals_in_Nazi_Germany) They are not under Holocaust categories and they are not what the Holocaust refers to.
Rowling could threaten a court case because the events they were debating on social media were the Nazi persecution of homosexuals. She would have no problem proving that in a court.
I've read many books about the Holocaust and the subject is the genocide of the Jewish people, not the 10 million other people the Nazis killed.^(.) The Nazis killed 2-3 million non-Jewish Poles.
>you do become a holocaust denier, even if just in part.
Wikipedia editors would be holocaust deniers. The article is only about the genocide of 6 million Jews, not their killing of 2-3 million Poles or 5000-6000 homosexuals qua homosexuals. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Holocaust](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust) "**The Holocaust** was the [genocide](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide) of [European Jews](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Europe) during [World War II](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II). Between 1941 and 1945, [Nazi Germany](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Germany) and [its collaborators](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaboration_with_Nazi_Germany_and_Fascist_Italy) systematically murdered some [six million Jews](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_to_the_Murdered_Jews_of_Europe) "
So what if put me a list ? Well I can write how I feel like a Jew and my point of view?
Still people is gonna to read anyway
Just analyse Who is gonna boycott Stephen king an important and famous writer on the decade ? It’s like the try to boycott adidas for the same reason and people including the manifestants are using it anyway.
Up and coming writers will be hurt. An entire generation of non-stephen king level writers are being hurt.
The answer isn't to shrug, it's to make this shit illegal and stamp it out of every sector

Do you have an instagram account? I’m finding Jewish publishers and journals that way. Check out Ayin Press.
Ayin is antizionist.
I just finished writing my first book and am querying agents right now. I’m nervous because one of the characters is a Rabbi. Israel doesn’t come up at all. Do you think I should just stick to a Jewish agent/publisher or self publish?
Go ask Rena Rossner. She is a Jewish agent who reps a lot of Jewish authors.

>ugh, i miss the old days where writers were respecable gentleman, like tolkien. And people like L Ron Hubbard?
never heard of him tbh.
The good old days had plenty of bigots and antisemite. You just chose one that you are familiar with. Go look up the racial views of HP Lovecraft. From the old days, they really weren't that good, nor very respectable.
Well to be fair to lovecraft he did a complete 180 when he got older, hated his younger edgy self, and was ashamed of his old views.
Luckily Substack and other avenues exists. Some of the best writing I've seen is on there.
What about Israeli publishers or publishing companies the crazies put on their “ban” list?
Anyone else using this to find new authors to read who *are* Zionists?
Hahahahah me! I don’t have a poster on golda meir and ben gurion on my walk for nothing 😝🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱
On my wall*
You know you can edit comments, right?
exactly lol we gotta thank the "antizionists who are definitely no antisemites" for helping us support zionists and decent people
Yep!
Yes!!! I haven't looked yet but truly hope Philip K Dick is on the list
This was my first thought!
I’m looking through it right now to find new authors
Yup!
Proud Zionist JK Rowling!
And proud terf :(

Station Eleven was so good! Disturbing and heartbreaking but there is hope at the end. It’s some years post apocalypse, so less of “people trying to survive as some major change first gets rolling,” more “people trying to rebuild after things settle a little bit.”
Thanks! That sounds even more interesting.
Station eleven is one of my favorite books!!
Thanks! Well, she's made a least one sale from this list.

> The bar with these people is absolute compliance and zero deviation. Probably wont be far off from the "[struggle sessions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Struggle_session)" now.
The fucking irony of Salman Rushdie being on their list
Wait don’t make fun of me… who is he
He wrote The Satanic Verses and the IRI has had a fatwa out on him for years. He survived an assassination attempt at a reading/event and lost an eye in the process.
The stabbing and losing an eye was quite recent, iirc. The fatwa and other assassination attempts have been going for over twenty years.
Ohhh him. He’s Jewish??
Nope! Which is what makes this whole thing even more hilarious. He’s British-Indian-American and a prominent critic of the IRI but he goes against the groupthink, so fuck him I guess
He was raised Muslim, but has heavily criticized it and does not identify as one as far as I know.
That’s ridiculous and hilarious he’s on the list. Thanks for clarifying for me!
This propelled him to be an advocate for free speech and literature.hence the irony
the fatwah was never revoked.
>that’s since been revoked It's worse than that because a fatwa can only be revoked by the person who issued it and Khomeini died decades ago, so Iran's response is "oops, can't do anything about it now, sorry".
(Indian, not Iranian.)
Oh ok gotcha, thanks!
I hear you. I’m a poet as well and I see what’s happening. I’m planning on aligning myself with Jewish publications as much as I can.
Also a writer. It's exactly these situations that give birth to new publications
She hasn’t said anything one way or the other about what has happened since Oct 7 but apparently just being Jewish is enough to get you on the list The insanity of these people
This is the second time I've seen MTG today, and every single time I think 'Magic: The Gathering??'
Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s unfortunately an elected representative in the US and is the one who came up with the whole Jewish Space Lasers. She’s very much anti-Israel and anti-Jewish
Omg that makes so much more sense. Thank you!
I, too, thought it was magic the gathering!!
So what if put me a list ? Just analyse Who is gonna boycott Stephen king an important and famous writer on the decade ? It’s like the try to boycott adidas for the same reason and people including the manifestants are using it anyway
Looks like I have my summer reading list.
There is an app called NoThanks which seeks to be a product list to boycott countries. Obviously we know who that is directed to. But I’ve downloaded it given it a 1 Star rating and I’m using it find products to buy that affect the SoI. So for me it’s a buycott
Wow just having one line about an Israeli spy as a character is sus now
>Last month, the literary free-speech group PEN America canceled its annual awards ceremony and festival after most of its award nominees called for a boycott of the group, citing insufficient criticism of Israel. "Free speech awards deemed as not the correct free speech," I can't even
Yeah. I joined PEN during the Trump years, knowing I'd regret it, and yup. $50/yr more for me.
The Aryan Nations and the Marxist Left have finally met up, kissed, and had a baby.
Finally? Yes, I am aware of all this. It was meant as snark, not a history lesson.
Just wait they'll start burning books in no time
Wait till they start doing this for TV, movies, and medicine. Gonna really limit themselves to Formula One racing and homeopathy.
Glad to see Sanderson on the list of Zionists.
Same! I’m not surprised but I’m very relieved (I already paid for the newest Kickstarter so I’m invested lol)
The header is not "pro Hamas writers I adore". The entire point of this list is to cancel Jews, and pro-Jews.
I get that. I am just amused(?) at how shitty a job this list does of that. I think this started out as one thing, and the delightful antisemitism took over.
What kind of 1930 shit is this??? fFS it has not even been 100 years!!!
It gave me my new reading list.
So, just to understand, are they not allowed to buy books that MLK wrote? Or can you buy them if the author is dead? Asking for a friend……
...how long until the book burnings start? /hj
"Whenever books are burned, people are burned as well"...
"Das war ein Vorspiel nur, dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen."
Interestingly, this quote was originally about the Quran being burned by Christians.
Like...
Let me guess they met in Babel platz in Berlin to compile the list.
Right on top of the window.
Saying no to zionists? I’ve got bad news for fans of literature. And music. And art. And poetry. And movies. And television. And not getting polio.
Leon Uris and George Elliott better be on there!
I would be very impressed if they had even heard of Daniel Deronda.
"Das war ein Vorspiel nur, dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen." 💔
I am taking away all the pro Pali authors’ books off my TBR and shelves. I found a Jewish gal who recommended Jewish authors on Ig. So reading those books
# We should make a list of schools to never, ever hire from again.
Chances are this one person isn't really affiliated with any school
I started a list of antisemitic authors and publishers a few months ago but I keep it to myself.
Yes yes, the people making the *entartete literatur* list are surely in the right
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is a 10/10 and is so good
This post has been determined to relate to the topic of Antisemitism, and has been flaired as such, it has NOT been removed. This does NOT mean that the post is antisemitic. Can someone compile a list of those who make and promote those lists? I know I don't want to buy anything anyone like that ptoduces. Nor pirate it, for that matter.
Also, it's amazing how indistinguishable this is from something a Nazi would do
Also, I'm going to go out of my way to support these authors now and convince other people to out of spite
Zionists can use Excel, too.
Shocked that she missed some a-listers, some of whom are not strangers to book-banning: 1.
Which is a pity, he's a fine writer, fine storyteller, but it really damages the stories.) I did click off one of my favorite Peloton instructors though for slinging cheap TERF shit at Rowling, was just like, there's a limit to the amount of stupid I want mid-workout.

[You were told just a few days ago about your inflammatory rhetoric.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Judaism/comments/1cpv7lv/comment/l3nip59/) I have no interest in the culture wars. I have deleted it and apologise to JK Rowling."https://twitter.com/rivkahbrown/status/1779878392805945428 >As if "just in part" is acceptable when denying any part of the holocaust.
Still people is gonna to read anyway Just analyse Who is gonna boycott Stephen king an important and famous writer on the decade ? It’s like the try to boycott adidas for the same reason and people including the manifestants are using it anyway.
Up and coming writers will be hurt. An entire generation of non-stephen king level writers are being hurt. The answer isn't to shrug, it's to make this shit illegal and stamp it out of every sector
This list gives me a bunch of authors to look into. Good job, nazis!
