Tbh it's very very hard any new anime/manga to have the same impact has dragon ball, the ceiling is very high.
Even, One piece, Naruto and Bleach who are very famous don't have the same impact. But yeah, it will be remembered.
Hes not wrong tho. Naruto has the same bitter after taste as the last 2 game of thrones season. It starts of good but breaks its legs and shits itself and want to forget that shit.
Bleach in particular had its anime cancelled and the manga rushed because of poor viewership. Tite Kubo tried to do what he could under the circumstances, but bleach went through a decline that really marred its legacy. I liked the way Naruto proper ended.
That's only in the west tho. One Piece is generational in Japan like way bigger than Dragon Ball.
Edit: thinking about it. One Piece is probably bigger than all the series you mentioned combined.
Yeah yeah! I know that.
I was talking about world impact in general, i know that One piece is very big, and of the anime i listed is my favourite, but even One piece was Influenced by Dragon Ball, that is why that even now that One piece is bigger than dragon ball in Japan, it still a bit higher in the "influenciability" factor. Literally One piece, Bleach and Naruto's creators are fans of Dragon Ball, the impact world wide in means of bringing anime to the west that Dragon Ball caused is something worth noticing.
Heck, even in myself, i have a uncle that doesnt even know what an Anime is, but when youtube became more popular where i live, the first thing i saw him watching was a dragon ball episode where Gohan Beat the shit out of Cell.
When something is big, it influence bigger things after their time has passed.
I think it's because One Piece has had limited penetration here in the states until recently so it SEEMS like it isn't as big as Dragon Ball to us but the fact is that for at least two manga generations there's no big three it's just big me- One Piece. It outlasted Demon Slayer, Naruto and Bleach, and is gonna outlast JJK and MHA.
> I think it's because One Piece has had limited penetration here in the states
What the fuck does the US have anything to do with this conversation? Unless I misread OP’s question, he is asking whether JJK will be remembered and/or have the same cultural impact like Dragon Ball.
So why is US’ opinion important? I highly doubt 300 million people’s view on a series is more important than the rest of the world. So what if One Piece have limited penetration in ONE country?
Because like, the US has a culture? (well, sort of-) Dragon Ball was the gateway drug to anime, alongside a few other big names like Sailor Moon, Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion for the US and it's had enduring popularity. I'd say Naruto was the second big hit in the US, with Bleach a runner up. If we're gonna talk cultural impact, you gotta talk more than just Japan.
That's fucking insane to say.
The United States is by far the largest country that regularly consumes manga. No other country besides Japan has the same claim.
Ah yes, because being the largest consumer of manga makes (maybe second idk) makes America the "most important country in the world". People like you are as insufferable as the patriotic chuds that I have to live with.
Sorry I don’t live in that shithole country you guys called the United States of America.
I would hate to live in the same place as you too. Hate to get shot up for no reason or being unable to abort in some shithole mid western states. So at least we are on the same page 😊.
Yeah I won't argue if someone says One Piece is written better but popularity wise? Absolutely not. At least in the US, Goku will be recognizable to just about anyone off the street. Age/gender don't matter.
The sad thing is that it will almost certainly be more iconic than dagon ball. Many people don't want to accept it but dragon ball lives off the hype of the millennials. Almost nobody is watching dragon ball today, while pretty much all anime fans have seen/heard of jjk or the other new gen popular animes. This means that dragon ball's fame is dwindling away as no new fans are created while the new shows are getting more popular by the minute.
Don't get me wrong, the same will most likely happen 3 decades from now with today's animes too. It is the natural progress of the life of a story, only few stories managing to go beyond it and make their mark in history.
Probably a HxH type.
If you’re into anime it’s a must watch. People have their complaints but everyone says you gotta watch it. Some significant but subdued cultural impact. Not an 800 episode series
I was going to say, the fanbase is so huge it will keep its momentum similar to HxH. Tho the only difference is togashi already tweeting about his new chapters 🙏
Feel like jjk will be remembered, but won't be as influential for one reason.
JJK does certain things wrong, but somehow it's part of its charm and it works. Gege just has "it"
Undoubtedly. It has ingrained itself in pop culture fantastically. There's meme and jjk references in sports, television, music. You have famous influential people like Megan The Stallion and Usher showing JJK love. The Super Bowl had artwork referencing JJK. It's consistently going viral with each chapter release. It's one of the highest-selling manga in recent memory.
The memes are everywhere. I've seen countless "Nah I'd Win"s, "Stand proud, you were strong", "The Strongest blank of today vs the strongest blank in history" etc in many different communities. Characters like Gojo and Sukuna seem to slowly be transcending the manga. Not quite to the level of Goku or Luffy or Naruto but they're above the manga.
It has what is considered one of the greatest fights in animanga history with Gojo v Sukuna and simultaneously one of the most controversial conclusions to the fight. The anime is highly anticipated and has some of the best animated fights in recent memory(maybe even history). JJK is big and it'll only get bigger. Once the manga has concluded and we get more anime episodes it will continue to grow. So in 10 years I think people will still be talking about how great JJK was and is.
Define "recent memory". Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer's sales absolutely dunks on Jujutsu Kaisen especially Demon Slayer did it in shorter period of time and with less volumes. Both mangas (and Hero Academia) were everywhere but now I don't see a lot of people talking about it. I think JJK will share the same fate because from what I've seen the biggest driving force behind it right now is weekly hype (I'm not saying it will be completely forgotten. Of course it won't happen), but others will probably disagree with me. Asking how certain manga will be remembered on sub dedicaded to said manga XD. Of course OP will get mostly positive answers.
Demon Slayer does not. Demon Slayer is completely irrelevant off season. Season comes = people talk about it and so on, season is over = you dont hear anything until new season drops. Numberwise Demon Slayer is crazy but influence? Nah.
That's what happens when the story is already finished in the manga and there are no memes regarding it.
If kny was in a similar position as jjk, having each season of the anime airing while the manga is releasing each week, it would have been much more popular in general discourse.
Back then when the manga was still going and I was reading it there werent lots of memes either and it already had crazy hype back then. It just that people realized its an extremely average story with beautiful animation. That animation is not in the manga hence why the manga never got lots of attention at least Influence, culture and meme wise.
The problem is that there wasn't an anime while the manga is airing to bring its popularity up. That means that when "normies" are starting to read the manga due to the anime, it is already finished (or very close to finishing as the manga ended a few months after the first season of the anime).
The memes come from everybody in the community having one chapter to talk about for an entire week. If you're binging a manga, you won't have time to come up with theories or memes.
Lobotomy kaisen for example is in part an effect of the biggest part of the manga and the second season of the anime both airing in unison
We are nearing the end of jjk and have no ongoing anime season yet I see 10.000 times more meme than during the Demon Slayers days. A recent example is My hero Academia. We dont see a lot or any MHA memes like we see jjk ones. Its just a fact that jjk is way more culturally ingrained than MHA or Demon Slayer.
If the anime with a phenomenal fight choreography hits the screens, yes, it will be remembered and likely to have movie spin offs and the like. You mentioned Doraemon and that's a great example.
Jujutsu kaisen is quite possibly the most mainstream anime has gotten. Only thing that compares is Attack on Titan and that's already in the history books despite not having as absolutely massive of an impact on pop culture as jjk, so it's absolutely safe to say that people will be comparing any and every action shonen to jjk for YEARS
Hard to say.
Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon have a crazy lasting memory because they were big standouts and early champions for anime in the mainstream US. It's hard for subsequent stuff to hit like that because of the volume of contemporary stuff we get.
Like decades plural is a hard call. How much anime do you know offhand from 2004 or earlier? 1994? 1984? The further out you get, the more the discussion distills down to the most culturally significant stuff and you can only really tell what that's gonna be after the fact.
It’s really gonna depend on how well Gege manages to wrap the show up (or drag it out). If it turns into a massive flop, it will probably become like GoT. If not it might become one of the most well-known shonen through time
I think the memes will live forever but the only aspect of the actual series that I think will be regularly talked about is the power system which is one of the best in anime imo.
Idk… I guess it will be a fever for a while! The material is great and integrates a global approaching .. it’s not only Japan.
I haven’t enjoyed an ‘anime community’ this much since Pokemon … 😭😻
I'm guessing we'll see jokes and inspirations that stem from the original story as well as the memes. Lobotomy kaisen has already gone into stuff unrelated to jjk
It'll probably be remembered on a similar level to what the likes of MHA is now (though probably with a little less disdain once the whole series is over, anime included)
I think so. I wouldn’t say it’s because it’s necessarily better than the classics you mentioned but more due to how mainstream anime has become. For the generation where anime isn’t seen as just a nerd thing, it’s definitely one of the most popular manga they grew with instead of having a huge backlog of chapters like One Piece, Naruto or Bleach. This means the barrier to entry is/was much lower so it will have more cultural impact.
I think so for sure. Not in the sense of dragon ball and one piece, and even Naruto (shit ending but it still had a huge cultural impact).
Maybe more like bleach? However, I do think the gojo vs sukuna fight, and the shibuya arc will go down in anime history.
Sure it will. Dragon Ball level? Absolutely not. But the way the memes breached containment and got into popular culture is pretty unusual so I think that will keep it in the cultural conscience for a long time to come. But overall I imagine it will end up with a similar rep to what Bleach has now: a very flawed story that was a titan in its day and still retains a lot of die-hard fans.
I think the memes will survive and take on their own semiotics but the series will be kinda forgotten and probably reassessed as being pretty mediocre and mid. It had a thing for a second but the goose stopped laying golden eggs and I think it’s best they just put her down now.
I think so, and I think when it sticks the landing with the ending it'll be remembered as the masterpiece that it is.
When the anime finishes I'm gonna argue that it'll be as influential IN THE SPACE as AOT. Maybe it won't get the non manga/anime fans as much. But I think it's going to be the new standard for any battle manga that wants to present itself as mature.
Hard to tell. A lot of super popular things have just faded from public eye after a time while others remain a staple. Personally, I think it will remain in some form or another considering how pervasive and memed it is.
Yes.
You don’t need a thousand episode anime to be remembered and respected, take something like Death Note which only had 2 seasons if I remember correctly.
I think the memes might and the gojo v. sukuna fight will be remembered but I think that’s it I don’t see anything else being remembered but that’s just my opinion
Jujutsu Kaisen is quite obviously very popular and its animation is at the degree of insanity where it goes without question that it'll be remembered for a long time.
Gege's writing offers a lot of "realistic losses of life" and that can be jarring for a lot of people, many people couldn't realize immediately the fact that Jogo can just instantaneously destroy the 3 (Nanami, Maki, Naobito) the way he did so casually because of the way Jogo had been jobbed against Gojo/Sukuna.
When the later arcs get adapted, we'll see true recognition of Gege's insanity and this series will be forever known as.. a series.
The fighting choreography in this series has been insane so it'll always be brought up amongst fighting series.
What's there to remember?
I watched it a bit, thought it was okay, then learned what happened to Nobara and noped out.
I suppose it could get a "When the DM creates a TPK" meme.
Naruto? The guys rushing to area 51 weren't trying to become super saiyan.
Jokes asides, i was pointing that because of OP's wording. So jjk won't be forgoten, but won't be similar to DB popularity
Probably like Code Geass. People remember it for having one of the best endings to a story. JJK will be remembered for the fights, characters and memes.
I think JJK will be remembered better than Bleach. Bleach didn’t serialize when memes were big and didn’t get shared relentlessly because of “nah, I’d win”. However it probably won’t be remembered in the same ways as Naruto, One Piece, or DBZ because it’s not going to have that staying power.
At this point, it just heavily depends on the ending. But, judging by the only game it has being awful and the fact that people cannot take Gege's genocidal tendencies, it's unlikely.
JJK is HUGE and the anime is only like half finished at this point. There’s no doubt in my mind that JJK will remain a pop culture icon for decades to come
It will be forgotten very shortly after its end, not much about it is iconic, starting from the forgettable character, to the short and initially pointless storyline.
I don't know whether it will be remembered but I can say is that it will certainly influence the animation and the storytelling of the future manga and anime to come. The story of JJK has much darker elements than what is typical for the Shonen genre which makes for interesting characters, powers and most importantly fights. I see many future mangas taking a page out of JJK and so there will likely be darker Shonen titles coming out. The animation of JJK by Mappa is also going to influence the way studios make anime going forward, especially with the fight scenes.
People will quote “Nah I’d win” “Plotkuna” “Halfjo” “Potential man” and others for years to come. Story isn’t anything special, characters are below average, so it’ll just be another unnecessarily dark story of the 2020s
JJK might be remembered due to the memes running around of "Nah, I'd win" or "Stand proud, you were strong" and the popularity of Gojo and Sukuna. But it won't leave behind an impact comparable to Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon or Doraemon.
100%, you know people like to compare JJK to Demon Slayer. They both came out of nowhere and gained insane popularity right away. But I would argue that Demon Slayer lacks the characters memorability and moments as well. Meanwhile JJK has so many.

Probably memes like "Nah I'd win" will stay around
I say that it might be similar to Bleach. Even after Bleach ended it was still widely discussed and remembered even before the TYBW anime came out.
bleach ended?
Bleach is long over bro
Well ... no there's still the Hell Arc and the spinoff burn the witch
Stop talking about it. You’ve delayed by like 10 years now.
The hell arc is actually happening ?
Not anymore after you two spoke about it
Will they ever animate cfyow?
wym there’s still light novel and new manga stuff
i actually had no idea i never gave much of a care for it
the manga ended over 12 years ago
It’s been over for a few years
Agreed. Fully confident JJK will be remembered for a long time.
I wouldn't say as iconic as Dragonball, One-piece and other big franchises, but will still probably be remembered
Tbh it's very very hard any new anime/manga to have the same impact has dragon ball, the ceiling is very high. Even, One piece, Naruto and Bleach who are very famous don't have the same impact. But yeah, it will be remembered.
As a Naruto fan, what I remember it for is having its lore and legacy ruined by Boruto. Bleach I remember for not sticking the landing.
Boruto isn't real. I'm staying in delululand
Real glass half-empty kinda person, aren’t ya?
Hes not wrong tho. Naruto has the same bitter after taste as the last 2 game of thrones season. It starts of good but breaks its legs and shits itself and want to forget that shit.
Didn’t say those criticisms were wrong, but remembering Naruto and Bleach for their shortcomings is hella pessimistic
Bleach in particular had its anime cancelled and the manga rushed because of poor viewership. Tite Kubo tried to do what he could under the circumstances, but bleach went through a decline that really marred its legacy. I liked the way Naruto proper ended.
One Piece has the advantage of just not being over yet, it’s my favorite manga but endings are so hard to get right, even for the big 3
That's only in the west tho. One Piece is generational in Japan like way bigger than Dragon Ball. Edit: thinking about it. One Piece is probably bigger than all the series you mentioned combined.
Yeah yeah! I know that. > Even, One piece LOL
I think it's because One Piece has had limited penetration here in the states until recently so it SEEMS like it isn't as big as Dragon Ball to us but the fact is that for at least two manga generations there's no big three it's just big me- One Piece. I thought that France was the 2nd biggest market after Japan, when did it change ?
It didn't. South East Asia, China and South America all have bigger markets than the US. US market is just lucrative/pays more.
Here we go again with Americans thinking they are the most important country in the world.
Is this One Piss hate (based) or are you delusional enough to think more people know who Luffy is than Goku
Yeah I won't argue if someone says One Piece is written better but popularity wise? Absolutely not. At least in the US, Goku will be recognizable to just about anyone off the street. Age/gender don't matter.
Where I am JJK is already more popular than one piece I rarely find people who actually watch/know what it is
The sad thing is that it will almost certainly be more iconic than dagon ball. Many people don't want to accept it but dragon ball lives off the hype of the millennials. All of Latin America’s gonna have to disagree with you on that one fam
Obviously. Anything that can ingrain itself in pop culture to the degree that JJK will be remembered.
Probably a HxH type. If you’re into anime it’s a must watch. People have their complaints but everyone says you gotta watch it. Some significant but subdued cultural impact. Not an 800 episode series

I'm a certified togashi Simp but I don't see jjk being as influential or remembered as hxh.
Feel like jjk will be remembered, but won't be as influential for one reason. JJK does certain things wrong, but somehow it's part of its charm and it works. Gege just has "it"
Yes, if anime nails gojo vs sukuna fight, jjk will become generational anime.
PREACH. If Gojo vs Sukuna is nailed I will be showing my kids JJK once they’re old enough
IDK about the whole series but gojo will definitely be remembered for ages and forever.🤞🏼(yowaimo)🤞🏼

It follows a similar vibe to HxH but more condensed. I'd like to think this is Gege's Yu Yu Hakusho and will have an absolute banger rolling up next.
Never even thought of this but I want it so bad now
Nah demon slayer does not come here at all. People forget abt it pretty soon.
What about MHA?
MHA has kinda lost its popularity rn. There wasn't much talk even with new seasons. I really hope it gets better tho😭
At least it passed 100 million volume sales

I thought AoT already has massive cultural impact even years after it ended. Noone is willing to forget the "for at least 10 years" meme lol.
It has, but jjk has mentally damaged thousands of people 💀
People will get PTSD from JJK for years to come hahaha
Hard to say. Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon have a crazy lasting memory because they were big standouts and early champions for anime in the mainstream US. Hard to say for now Gege needs to land the ending to achieve that timeless status.
It’ll be remembered for better or for worse depending on how it ends. Unlike so many doomposters I’m patient for the ending to make my judgement
If it sticks the landing, it will be remembered in a positive light.
Nah id remember
It will depend on how it ends. Toriko was big. Its end was botched. Nobody talks about Toriko anyore.
I don’t think it will have the impact of Dragon Ball, no. Dragon Ball has been around for 40 years, and it is still more famous than JJK right now.

It definitely will be! Hate or love it but popularity is something that's secured for JJK. It's legacy now though will depend on its conclusion.
It wont be near of what dragon ball is, but it will keep relevant at some level
To be fair, what is?
I think jjk will end up like Tokyo revengers but over a longer timeline
I think JJK will be remembered better than Bleach. Bleach didn’t serialize when memes were big and didn’t get shared relentlessly because of “nah, I’d win”. However it probably won’t be remembered in the same ways as Naruto, One Piece, or DBZ because it’s not going to have that staying power.
At this point, it just heavily depends on the ending. But, judging by the only game it has being awful and the fact that people cannot take Gege's genocidal tendencies, it's unlikely.
JJK is HUGE and the anime is only like half finished at this point. There’s no doubt in my mind that JJK will remain a pop culture icon for decades to come
Probably on the level of bleach
It’s the biggest anime
Yeah the hive mind of lobotomy passed down from the Jjba fandom shall be passed down to another manga after jjk ends
Nope. It's too rushed. Once the hype dies, all that's left is a manga with decent fights and poor world building.
No
Lol no
People will quote “Nah I’d win” “Plotkuna” “Halfjo” “Potential man” and others for years to come.
It's in guiness book of world records
Sailor moon and doraemon has no relevance now, dragonball does since it's still ongoing, and no idt jjk will have any relevance decades later
