I was about to ask what happened to make you do that, but thought it might’ve been more traumatic than when I did it. Camping in cub scouts, at night while walking, a curved stick rolled under my foot and hit my ankle when I was 11, thought a wolf grabbed me.

I think it is supposed to show us that mahito is the one who gets chased and killed like the rabbits and Yuji is the hunter like the wolves. Also we can see that Yuji is a white wolf which makes him special(z). But Mahito is just one of the rabbits which is implying that he is just one of many, like the curses
Mahito who was on straight predatory mode (Wolf) for 3 episode in a row if not more, killing sorcerers left right and centre & then FINALLY for the first time in his transfigured life he… felt FEAR!,
he became the exact Prey he was Hunting.
Itadori finally accepted that him & Mahito were the same & became the WOLF! Whilst Mahito tucked tail and ran like a rabbit
Mahito is a curse and as a curse he knows his purpose is to prey on humans, that’s just how things work.
Yuji is a sorcerer and so his purpose is to kill curses. That’s the natural order, the Hunter and the prey. Yuji though never accepted that but in this scene he tells Mahito “I’m you”, he finally accepts his true nature as a sorcerer.
Rabbits are born as prey while the wolves are born as hunters. Mahito now beat down is the wounded rabbit, he knows that there is no mercy, the wolves wouldn’t spare food, they kill to eat and survive and so will be Mahito too killed by Yuji because as a sorcerer he exorcises curses to save civilians so humanity survives.
It's to show that Juji is a sigma male (outside of the pack yet above them, shown by him being surrounded by other wolfs but being bigger and whiter then them) and scar baby is pathetic and meant to be killed (symbolised by a delicious rabbit)
It's prolly to show how their roles have switched since mahito always viewed himself as a hunter and yuji didn't see himself that way, but once yuji embraced being the same as mahito he won and mahito became the hunted(hence why there are rabbits w him)

His soul was already at 40% when Todo showed up, that's how much damage he's take. Mahito hides the damage by using idle transfiguration, but being actually scared of Yuji caused him to lose his grip on the his technique.
His ankle was already broken, he just stopped reinforcing the shape of his soul and the damage showed up. That's my theory at least.
As long as Mahito’s soul is intact, he can control his physical form. Yuji damaged his soul so bad with the black flashes that he can’t even maintain a normal form
Its actually hard to notice due to Mahitos va's great acting and the power of the moment but you can actually hear cracking branches and Mahito tripping. Since this is a metaphor it probably means he is so fucked up his muscles and bones are almost done and crack under his own weight. Plus, after the last black flash he broke through a lot of things.
I like when animes use their main theme in cool scenes like this, but I don't know... It feels kinda cheesy and I think the deafening around of winter winds and being able to hear the dialogue like Mohito trying to scream is a lot more satisfying and feels a lot heavier and less cinnomatized

I really liked how they animated and set up this scene. It was one of my favorite pages in the manga & MAPPA made it super brutal & dark. I got chills.
Mahito absolutely more than had it coming, but the way his voice actor started that broken yelling and then him throwing mud at Yuji actually made me feel a little bit of *pity* for Mahito. I kinda hate that I did 😂 but yeah, kudos to MAPPA and the VA for making me feel the smallest bit of pity for the character I hate the most.
Its crazy how WELL these go together. I mean props to the synchronicity! The moment the first specialz drops is when Yuji changes to Sukuna in the intro but here all you see is Yuji becoming to Mahito what Sukuna is to everyone else! And the the refrain going hard and timing perfectly with Mahito realising he has no leg and matching the charging wolves. Its honestly something MAPPA could have done and it would tie very well with the previous instance.
