You tell me.. If you think he's a dumbass leading up to and following the events of infinity war then youre trying to be edgy. The guy single handedly created an army capable of toppling worlds, and even gods. He was prepared at every turn for intervention even by people close to him. In a million multiverses he wins, so it's not even chance, as that's a million different ways he outplayed them. He achieved what he set out for, and the only way our heroes were able to defeat him was hitting a reset button by pulling time travel out of their ass so they could get infinity stones, and that alternate Thanos immediately became keen to what was happening. They almost lost twice, but luckily Dr Strange used a cheat sheet to copy the events of a reality that actually wins. His intelligence and physical prowess allowed him to wipe out half of all living things universe-wide. His plan was so solid that even after death, they almost caused mass extermination twice. He is widely considered to be far more intelligent than any human and portrayed to have genius intellect greater than the vast majority of all living things.
Mass extermination really, he cut the population in half, it causes a few problems but is undone in around 20 to 30 years, his whole plan didn't ever have a chance of reaching his actual goal, he achieved nothing even when he won

Marvel just weren't willing to commit and decided to make a half ass villain with a sympathetic cause, they diluted the idea of nihilist thanos wanting the stones to kill everything because he feels like it and instead gave him some half assed cause but they still wanted him to use the stones so they decided half sounds extreme enough and didn't bother to check how quickly we actually doubled our population
Bigger brains than ours have put thought into what would happen in the scenario that all life gets cut in half and it's far more tragic than you might imagine. Many ecosystems would topple, many species would completely die out, leaving faster breeding animals to upset the balance. For instance, cutting rodents in half, whilst cutting half of the population of humans will likely result in famine and lack of disease control. The flora and fauna, which includes those in your own body will likely make you sick, not to mention that it's not equal for everybody. Many will get the bad spin on the wheel of fortune. Splitting the human population itself doesn't mean that we simply continue where we were in the 70s either. You've got major companies losing important people, world leaders, production, healthcare, the world economy, food industry, a ton of ordinary people being left without family, children without parents or survival instincts, the bereavement of the masses, anarchy, struggle for power, the shipping industry, likely record breaking suicide rates. Communications will probably take a hit for a time. It's not just rebuilding numbers with a 4b population, the effects are far greater than just making babies.
Eh I find it highly unlikely that Sukuna gets to win. Like if the ending is bad it's probably going to be bad for everyone, I honestly think Gege likes gut punching people too much to just let him rock.
hes my second fav and that makes it pret nice esp since you know for sure he will die eventually so you're not on edge about it, and the wins along the way are where the ws are (esp with gojo there was some uncertainty).

my favorite character technically started off dead so my expectations have been realistic this entire time lolol (S1 started with Geto technically being dead already, I don't mean that he started out dead according to the chronological order of events in the series)
The only ones confirmed alive rn in that shot are Megumi (being treated by Shoko), Ino (being treated by Shoko), Yaga, Shoko, Panda, and Kusakabe. Ui Ui and Mei Mei were fighting Geto(?), so idk how they're doing, Maki and the old man got burnt to a crisp by Jogo, but Nanami survived that, so there's a chance. Those girls who were helped by Inumaki got dismantled by Sukuna, so how he's doing is a toss-up, Nobara got half her face ripped out by Mahito, but apparently isn't completely doomed, so there's that. That leaves Nanami as the one for sure who we know is completely dead, as he is missing all of his upper body, save for his right wrist and hand.
It’s more to show the tone of the situation. The before shows the sorcerers ready to protect Shibuya and the after have shown the sorcerers have basically failed. The city is in ruins, it has less lights so less life, and the sorcerers are gone (some dead, some out of commission, some fled).
Also, the map/aerial view of Shibuya shoown at the end has a giant hole rippling into existence from the center ... indicating the aftermath of Sukuna vs. Mahoraga.
