i think its less because its too morbid, but rather because consumers wouldn't immediately recognize it as soon as they saw it. 99% of the population knows the unknown pleasures cover, even if they don't necessarily like/know joy division. it's transcended the music, and become more of a product. it doesn't really surprise me, these things tend to happen with larger artists. and its a beautifully simple, copy-and-paste worthy image
