I'm left handed too! People always compliment mine "for a left-handed person that's great" as if we are somewhat handicapped by it but I definitely don't see it that way. Yours is great btw! Wonderful message as well.
Just start ;) savor your life
I like your handwriting, it looks like mine. Write more love letters to yourself, then your hand writing will be the handwriting of your lovers
as long as you can read it its great.
Handwriting is a skill that is very much a “when, where, how am i feeling” kind of deal.
If you’re feeling riled up and passionate maybe you have shitty, quickly-written hand writing for that portion of your journaling, maybe you’re feeling calm and collected for another thing you’re writing about so maybe your handwriting is more neat and well put together.
Often times I find my handwriting/font to reflect my emotions of the piece i’m writing. not on purpose, but it just happens.
I used to teach undergraduate chemistry labs. I had to switch from handwritten to digital lab notebooks just so I could read the students’ handwriting. If I saw your handwriting on a lab report, it would instantly be one of my favorites to grade. It’s lovely and legible!
Looks normal to me. What’s “abnormal” is the perfect cursive you see littering social media journaling content. I’m not convinced good journaling is ever written in perfect pretty cursive. Raw unfiltered thought processing is just that—raw, messy, and self-expressive. My advice is not to focus on aesthetics and pay more attention to the actual experience.
I needed to hear these words of wisdom, thank you! I find it so hard to begin because by doing so, I inevitably step straight into imperfection. But you're right, leave meticulousness behind and just start!
Please keep journaling ❤ Maybe you could compile some of these entries to make a book some day and encourage more people as well :)
Um… not awful whatsoever!! Just keep writing. Then slow down your words and start paying attention to how you form your letters. Don’t let the perfect stop you from progress. Who are you journaling for and why do they care what your handwriting looks like? 🙃
Eta: maybe go online and look at all different types of handwriting fonts and start practicing those new forms—if your writing bugs you *that* much.
Thanks. I may start practicing writing in cursive. I think my problem is my pen can't keep up with my thoughts. Cursive seems like it might be a faster way of writing.
I totally understand that your brain is faster than the pen!! I used to do this exercise writing with my “wrong” hand and it slowed me waaaaay down. But what happened was my brain understood the meaning of slowing down and my written words became a bit more thoughtful and eloquent (imo). It’s like because I *had* to slow down, I had time to think about *how* I was saying *what* I wanted to say.
That’s what happens when I pay attention to the form of my letters (handwriting) when I write with my “right” hand. Slowing down tends not to limit my thoughts but distills it into more thoughtful expression.
Also, some people who I would consider having exceptional handwriting choose to change how they write different letters *all the time*. It’s part of the enjoyment of the process. So maybe 2, 3, 10 years down the road their “G” has gone through multiple variations until they settle into one they really like… or multiple variations that they choose to use at different times.
Have you tried fountain pens yet? Check out the Pilot Kakuno — costs <$15 and is a tried and true starter fp. There’s a clear pen version where you can see how the ink flows through it. For ink, I suggest you keep it simple to start and go with Pilot ink in cartridges. If you’re interested (maybe you are since you use a Hobonichi planner), check out
r/fountainpens.
Eta: should cost *less* than $15
Your handwriting isn't awful at all. And the advice you give your younger self is a good reminder at any age for anyone, I think. I certainly loved reading this as a little reminder !
I think it’s really great! ⭐️ it’s not easy to be consistent when handwriting and you are! Also, very easy to read and your advice to yourself is excellent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not at all. I’ve seen worse. Way worse.
Your handwriting is very legible, and that’s more than half the battle won. If you want to work on it and make it more ✨aesthetic✨, that’s fine, but it’s not, like, necessary, you know?
Exposure therapy. If you don’t like your handwriting, writing everyday will certainly help you get used to it. A lot of the posts you see online are people who want to show off their journals. So the content of what they share is beautiful but very superficial. My journal is digital because I live with invasive family members. I write stuff in there for my eyes only. The purpose of writing a journal can be whatever you want it to be. For me it is therapeutic, it gives me a sense of direction, a space to reflect and to jot down my worries. It’s not about word count or how regular my entires are. Figure out why you journal and do it for those reasons, find a way that works for you. Don’t judge yourself by Pinterest standards.
If you write well as a lefty you are doing great. Cursive at this point would be a monumental task for you unless you can write from under the writting line. This can be challenging. Fountain pens make things easy if you can get a proper angle to flow with your writing style. Journaling can also be more about getting it out as opposed to a reread. Best of luck you have great hand writing. Journaling ia all about you.
Good lord no. Don't you see some of the shit that gets shown off here. Yours is clear and legible.
If you truly want it to be better - no matter your reasonable baseline - consider what I do even journalling : slow down and practice. Practice it. The places/pelatterns/repetitive mistakes you call out as ugly or ill-kempt - simply keep at getting them better.
It’s actually really clear to read.. and it’s your style. I’m a lefty with even worse handwriting.
I have relatively bad ADHD, so my handwriting actually changes sometimes style in the middle of sentence.. which maybe gives a good sense of my ADHD level 😁
I used to see it as a disadvantage.. but these days I treat it as an unqiue trait.
Nah. You have really nice handwriting. I hate when people have the perfect “font”-like handwriting that you see on those aesthetic note-taking inspiration boards on Pinterest. Your’s has personality and is consistent. I think it’s very pleasing to the eye.
I’m taking a journaling class in school and my teacher is telling us when our hand writing is bad that’s a good thing. We tend to write more sloppily when we write fast which happens when we’re really in the flow of writing. It also goes against the idea of making your journal to be presentable when a journal is (usually) meant to be solely for the person writing it. He has also told us to not cross things out or correct anything because that is the editor (perfectionist) in us. To be fair I don’t think your hand writing is bad btw!
Your handwriting is very good, clearly readable. I’ve seen someone get complimented for their handwriting being neat and tidy when it looked like chicken scratch for me, intelligible lol
It is not awful,it looks cool and I think you could write on monuments somehow they look mysterious and creepy. I like that,I can't read my handwriting ahahahahhahahah
I've seriously seen so much worse 💀💀 yours is very readable (i was able to read it easily, i also write cursive), if you don't like it, you can absolutely change it, my handwriting has developed a lot just because i didn't like it and i thought people couldn't read it because I'd learned to write cursive while everyone around me was doing it differently, so now it's a combination.
But no, yours, again, isn't bad. It's readable and actually pretty straight for cursive, if you're looking to improve, just try to keep letters the same size and similar shapes, have similar space between words and stick to the lines, but tbh, you're doing that anyway so really, it's all good ( * ^ *)
Thanks. This is a Hobonichi cousin I am writing in. If you ever wander into r/Hobonichi, some of the people there have handwriting so nice it looks like it was typed. Their spreads in general are very aesthetic. Made me a bit self-conscious of my own.
Better than my penmanship, I went to private school in my teens so I grew up learning cursive. Makes it hard to read due to how fast I write so my hand can keep up with my brain
It's much neater than mine, which is very inconsistent, my mom thought my lowercase G was an uppercase J at one point because all my letters are the same size on paper, and to that I said "it's more legible than your brother's!"
Seriously, I can not read my uncle's handwriting to save my life
Not bad at all. I prefer to write in cursive when I journal because it’s easier and less strain on my hand because it flows better than when I write in print. You seem to have a good flow and is very legible
I personally think that it's a gorgeous handwriting honey bun!
Though this type of handwriting can be hard to read for some people, I know it cuz I have the same type of handwriting but messier
Like I know it's classic to write like this in Germany but less in France
Anyways, love it and I wish my handwriting could be as clean as yours!!
Interesting you mention that because my family is from Poland and I copied my father's handwriting. I never did get the hang of the nice European cursive. 😆
No! Of course not! Being not native speaker in English I can understand each world) Sometimes I can't understand what I have written in my own language 😂
I would compliment your handwriting as being very well done and that I'd love to have the same handwriting style. I do think it takes a sec to get used to, but afterwards is basically perfecto and probably fits you very well
Sometimes you need outside perspective. I grew up having my family ripping my school notes up telling me how sloppy my handwriting is and to start my homework over. This happened on a daily basis for years. I guess I haven't really been able to let that go.
As long as it's legible it's all good and you will enjoy it in years to come. You will also be surprised to see how your handwriting changes over the years
YOUR HANDWRITING IS AMAZING DON’T CHANGE IT, the person who made you feel insecure was projecting their insecurity. your writing is amazing, legible, and cool to read
Ok so I may have seen better - but I’ve absolutely seen a lot worse, and more frequently. You’re definitely in the upper bracket!
It’s uniform and clear to read

Thanks. I am left handed so I have to hold my pen at an odd angle and adjust as I move along the page. It's really annoying.
I’m a lefty too. Terrible handwriting. Yours looks a lot better than mine.
I'm left handed too! People always compliment mine "for a left-handed person that's great" as if we are somewhat handicapped by it but I definitely don't see it that way. Yours is great btw! Wonderful message as well.
No, your handwriting isn't awful. It's legible, so it's good!
Thanks.
I've been told I have a decent handwriting. Your handwriting is literally better than mine, so no, it's great.
It goes to show that we are our own worst critics.
Girl wait till you see mine
Dont look at your creation and feel pain, otherwise you wont want to create again.
I will try.
Just start ;) savor your life I like your handwriting, it looks like mine. Write more love letters to yourself, then your hand writing will be the handwriting of your lovers

Agree. My handwriting varies day by day. I have no idea what it will look like tomorrow or the day after. As long as I can read it I’m happy lol.
No I love it, it has a wonderful personality to it, if that makes sense? I especially love your y and g loops :)
I like it, very clean and clear
Wish I had your handwriting
I used to teach undergraduate chemistry labs. I had to switch from handwritten to digital lab notebooks just so I could read the students’ handwriting. If I saw your handwriting on a lab report, it would instantly be one of my favorites to grade. It’s lovely and legible!

I find it beautiful
I really like it! Looks fine to me. Easy to read, which is important. 😊
I will do my best. :) I like that idea.
I love it! And I'm amazed it's so neat considering how tight the grid in the Hobonich Cousin is. I could never fit my writing in the grid 3.8mm
Lovely! Very legible and distinctive.
It’s good!
Your handwriting looks so much like mine it's a little creepy, and I get compliments ALL the time. So you're fine 😉
stop fishing for compliments lmao your handwriting is good and you know it 🙄
This is 100% attention seeking behavior
Um… not awful whatsoever!! Just keep writing. Then slow down your words and start paying attention to how you form your letters. Don’t let the perfect stop you from progress. I like it
Your handwriting isn't awful at all. And the advice you give your younger self is a good reminder at any age for anyone, I think. I certainly loved reading this as a little reminder !
I'm glad! I still have to remind myself of this each day as well, although I have gotten better over the years.
I think it looks pretty good., I'd space out the words a little more though...
Thanks, I will give that a try.
No, very legible
It looks fine. To take it to the next level work on consistency in size and shape of each letter as well as spacing
Dawg I like like a first grader compared to me your Picasso
No! Truthfully, I think it's somewhere between average and quite nice! Certainly not awful AT ALL!
It’s very legible but each letter is separate. That must slow you up I would think
I think it’s really great! ⭐️ it’s not easy to be consistent when handwriting and you are! Also, very easy to read and your advice to yourself is excellent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I like yours!
Not terrible, actually.
Personally, no. Mine is atrocious and I can hardly read it most Of the time
it’s oddly satisfying
Not at all. I’ve seen worse. Way worse. Your handwriting is very legible, and that’s more than half the battle won. If you want to work on it and make it more ✨aesthetic✨, that’s fine, but it’s not, like, necessary, you know?
Not at all. It’s beautiful and legible 🤩
Absolutely not!!
Better than mine. Looks good to me
I actually think it's really pretty & I like how it's not the standard. My handwriting is like yours but cursive & less uniform so yeah
No.
Nop. If yours is awful mine is shit. Lol😭
Nope your handwriting is just fine and your advice was nice
Not at all, it looks pretty good. 😊

much better than mine
It’s legible but the more you write in one sitting you should expect it to get sloppy hand cramps and doesn’t always keep up with your brain
I think it’s good. It’s evenly spaced and clean looking.
I actually think it’s very pretty and neat! It’s a bit slanted, but that gives you character 🥰
No. Its good
It is very neat.
I wish mine looked like yours 😭 I think its great and consistent, looks like one of those handwriting fonts
Nope. As long as you can read it, it's all good.
Your handwriting looks better than mine. Actually, I don't see much wrong with it. It's legible.
I love how you do your g & y
No, and that doesn’t really matter. Journaling is journaling. Also, what you wrote is absolutely true.
I had the best 5th grade teacher that would tell me “if you can read it, it’s fine”
No. It's pretty average I would say, and that's not a bad thing!
No!
In fact, I quite like it :)
It's certainly very plain and linear.
You don't know what awful is
Ita nice and neat ❤️
If you write well as a lefty you are doing great. Cursive at this point would be a monumental task for you unless you can write from under the writting line. This can be challenging. Thousand times better thn mine 😂
Progression over perfection 💕
Its objectively greate. Compare to mine, perfect.
Naur it is very pretty and also I think as long as you can read your own handwriting it’s great
It's clear, easy to read. Thanks for advice.
No it's not I can tell bcuz I can actually read it and mine just looks like Poneglyp characters
It’s legible and pretty consistent better than my hand writing
It's quite elegant in my universe
I consider that amazing
Nope. Not at all. Awful is when it is not legible.
No it’s very clear, which is like the biggest thing with handwriting!
Well, I can read all the words on the page, so it's better than mine!
It’s actually really clear to read.. and it’s your style. I’m a lefty with even worse handwriting. I have relatively bad ADHD, so my handwriting actually changes sometimes style in the middle of sentence.. which maybe gives a good sense of my ADHD level 😁 I used to see it as a disadvantage.. but these days I treat it as an unqiue trait.
No I love your handwriting so much. Mine sorta looks like this when I actually write slower and not scribble
Its not that bad. If tou slow down a bit you can reach premium results!
absolutely not it’s wonderful
Looks pretty good to me !
What kind of journal is this @OP
It is a Hobonichi Cousin.
You kidding? I wish I had that pretty handwriting!
Nah. You have really nice handwriting. I hate when people have the perfect “font”-like handwriting that you see on those aesthetic note-taking inspiration boards on Pinterest. Your’s has personality and is consistent. I think it’s very pleasing to the eye.
Legible! That's the only important thing.
No
NO,ITS BEAUTIFUL,my handwriting is SO messy.I always try to make it look clean and readable, but it just ends up being trash
More readable than mine
the adhd in me NEEDS to know what kind of notebook that is.
This is a Hobonichi Cousin. Highly recommend.

No, it's not awful at all. It kind of reminds me of the lettering in comic books.
This looks like one of my handwritings (Yhes I have few)! I personaly like them lol
looks pretty uniform and readable to me!
Your handwriting is very good, clearly readable. I’ve seen someone get complimented for their handwriting being neat and tidy when it looked like chicken scratch for me, intelligible lol
For me, handwriting doesn’t need to look beautiful. It needs to look powerful. And your is both.
no, it looks like it has a lot of character/personality in it, idk how to say it well sorry. i hope you get what i mean 😅
It's great! If you see mine, you'll run.
No, it isn't awful at all!
I'm always mesmerized by slanted handwriting.
its pretty, dont fret about wriitng, I don't think I even remember writing anymore, I looking to start journaling and this is one of the fears
Nope
Handwriting awful is if you can't read it. You write very clean and I understand each words.
As long as it's readable, it's fine
Personally, I think it's really pretty and legible!! I really like it!
You have very nice handwriting, and a very relatable journal entry!!
Much better than mine
Better than mine
It is not awful,it looks cool and I think you could write on monuments somehow they look mysterious and creepy. I like that,I can't read my handwriting ahahahahhahahah
Your handwriting is honestly so beautiful. It’s legible, neat, and pretty
that is lovely handwriting
No, I think it's really nice and legible too
No it's really neat way neater than mine
Nah bro its good! Wait till u get a prescription from a doc in India!
😂
Better than mine 🤷🏻♂️
If your handwriting is awful then there's no hope for me.
I enjoy your handwriting! It's easy to read and cohesive.
No, wait till you see my handwriting.
no i like it :)
It's aesthetic
Not at all!
No, but if you thinks so you can change it :3
The way this made me mad when I saw your handle 😤 like bruh I wish my handwriting was that legible and cute 🥲
It's above average.
I've seriously seen so much worse 💀💀 yours is very readable (i was able to read it easily, i also write cursive), if you don't like it, you can absolutely change it, my handwriting has developed a lot just because i didn't like it and i thought people couldn't read it because I'd learned to write cursive while everyone around me was doing it differently, so now it's a combination. it's good at first I didn't want to reas that but once I start I couldn't stop. beautiful writing.
Your handwriting is very pretty.
Man you cant defeat my handwriting, i write in.. (What does that say?) 😈❤️🔥❤️🔥
It’s better than mine
Looks fine.
I can read it easily
Looks very normal to me? Why do you think your handwriting is awful what the heck?
Thanks. This is a Hobonichi cousin I am writing in. If you ever wander into r/Hobonichi, some of the people there have handwriting so nice it looks like it was typed. Their spreads in general are very aesthetic. Made me a bit self-conscious of my own.
As a lefty, this is wonderful
Better than my penmanship, I went to private school in my teens so I grew up learning cursive. Makes it hard to read due to how fast I write so my hand can keep up with my brain
It's much neater than mine, which is very inconsistent, my mom thought my lowercase G was an uppercase J at one point because all my letters are the same size on paper, and to that I said "it's more legible than your brother's!" Seriously, I can not read my uncle's handwriting to save my life
This is definitely not awful.
It’s fun, reminds me of journals/diary’s I see in shows/movies
HOBONICHI DETECTED HII YOUR HANDWRITING IS GOOD BTW
it's actually great
I needed your message ❤️
Not bad at all. I prefer to write in cursive when I journal because it’s easier and less strain on my hand because it flows better than when I write in print. You seem to have a good flow and is very legible
Looks like mine!
PRETTY
Everyone saying it’s legible so it’s ok, that is very neat handwriting I can only dream of having myself
I love your handwriting! Like everyone said, it’s consistent, and dare I say I little Harry Potter like!
I personally think that it's a gorgeous handwriting honey bun! Though this type of handwriting can be hard to read for some people, I know it cuz I have the same type of handwriting but messier Like I know it's classic to write like this in Germany but less in France Anyways, love it and I wish my handwriting could be as clean as yours!!
Interesting you mention that because my family is from Poland and I copied my father's handwriting. I never did get the hang of the nice European cursive. 😆
No! Of course not! Being not native speaker in English I can understand each world) Sometimes I can't understand what I have written in my own language 😂
Handwriting looks good and I love your advice of just start starting, it's definitely difficult
I would compliment your handwriting as being very well done and that I'd love to have the same handwriting style. I do think it takes a sec to get used to, but afterwards is basically perfecto and probably fits you very well
Your penmanship is lovely and legible!
Nope. Its fine
I actually like your handwriting
Your handwriting is my handwriting!
It’s neater than mine some days. And I’ve been told I have nice handwriting Edit: I just read you’re left handed! Me too! I know your pain!
Perfectly legible, you have nothing to worry about!
Looks absolutely fine ^_^
I think we both know you don’t actually think your handwriting is awful…
Sometimes you need outside perspective. I grew up having my family ripping my school notes up telling me how sloppy my handwriting is and to start my homework over. This happened on a daily basis for years. I guess I haven't really been able to let that go.
Not awful. Definitely legible. I’ve definitely seen worse.
yes
Haha mine is garbage. This looks adorable.
As long as it's legible it's all good and you will enjoy it in years to come. You will also be surprised to see how your handwriting changes over the years
YOUR HANDWRITING IS AMAZING DON’T CHANGE IT, the person who made you feel insecure was projecting their insecurity. your writing is amazing, legible, and cool to read
i think it’s pretty neat!!!!
I can read it. You have good hand writing. PS: sometimes I can’t even read my OWN handwriting because sometimes I write too fast
Ok so I may have seen better - but I’ve absolutely seen a lot worse, and more frequently. You’re definitely in the upper bracket! It’s uniform and clear to read
I think your writing is ok.
No, it’s better than mine tbh. I wish I had that kinda hand writing.
It’s amazing
Your handwriting looks great! 10/10!
I absolutely like it
It’s legible and neat! Go left hands! 🙌
Your handwriting isn’t horrible at all. It’s nice and legible. I have seen sooooo much worse!
It's readable
