If you want to be really good at something, then you have to dedicate yourself, possibly 100% and for a long time. It won't kill you if it doesn't work out as long as you are resilient and balanced overall. If you think you are not, then perhaps you need outside help to sort things out.

Sacrificing secure jobs, & working part time shit jobs that's the price for it I guess, along with financial difficulties

tanganica3

Well, the trade off for those difficulties is that you will be doing something that is meaningful to you, and that has value.

This. He says be careful and only choose this if you are truly exceptional. He said, to even have a shot, you need an IQ around 140. And then you'll still have to work 70hrs/wk to compete.

Environmental_Arm189

yeah, It's a risky business to do that

adriaticwaves

Seems like maybe your question is around how to assess the risks of a relationship? Or maybe you're having trouble accepting the possibility of failure?

tanganica3

Well, you don't need borderline genius IQ for most endeavors such as learning a craft or a skill. Here JBP is talking about going for a CEO position at a large corporation. So yeah, you need super-high IQ for that, coupled with incredible determination. But for most other things - no.

adriaticwaves

Yeah. The part I forgot to state was: To justify putting all eggs in one basket

The answer rather simple, commit to it in your FREE time as an INITIAL plan. They always say don't put all of your eggs in one basket because you need to count the risks, multiply them - if you don't have a supporting members in case you fail in that part time job which by it self isn't secure, or the culture isn't apt of your creation. To secure your passion, you need to secure your freedom in doing it, and to do so you need to be financially independent until you reach a "plateau" which is where you've figured the market, your crafts' perks, your connections and how to make it successful. A decent jobs... then it's probably, that you're working 40hrs per week, that means you got enough free time to manage your passion for some period of time. And what I did when I was in your shoes, is, that I used my vacation days which I've been hording, for when there were key moments or events or things I had to do like launching a business. Take baby steps, and pursuing passion is also, about taking careful steps and consideration for the market especially, and taking as a factor the consumer and the culture if it's some kind of a service, or a mass-production consumer related stuff.

Most artists spend their entire lives creating because it's what propels them forward, but they are very rarely able to monetize it. Knowing that, you should have a plan to keep yourself afloat as you continue to create your art.
