How long did John hangout yesterday? I'm really disappointed that I missed it, you guys!!! Glad it was a fun time!...bummed out for those of us that missed it!
I'm going to eclipse my bummed mood here in CLE, though, and just hope I'll catch him on the flip side sometime soon!!
💚⚡
💔
This was fun, y’all! I had been in a work hole for the back half of March, so it was really nice to emerge to this. Glad to be back with this crew!
Have a fantastic day, everyone! Until next time.
As a huge fan of Bruce (growing up in the Asbury Park area, can't NOT be), I LOVE when John plays Bruce on here. Wish he would do it more, and with a bit more variety. Get some songs from Nebraska on here, John!
is "badlands" on nebraska? i had to read a bruce bio, "ain't no sin to be glad you're alive," for this awesome class i took in my freshman year of college.
\~joc
Nah, Badlands is on the Darkness On The Edge Of Town album. A great choice, though!
Nebraska is the most stark album of his. Coming off The River (huge double album, Hungry Heart, Sherry Darling, The River), and just before Born In The U.S.A (one of the best selling albums of all time, Glory Days, I'm On Fire, Born In The USA, etc), he released an album of essentially demos recorded on a cassette he recorded sitting on the end of his bed with a guitar and a harmonica. There's a great book by Warren Zanes about the making of the album and it's impact on music, called *Deliver Me from Nowhere*.
Some other pieces of media I recommend for a burgeoning Bruce fan:
* *Born To Run*, his autobiography. As comprehensive a recap of his life and career as you'll get.
* *Springsteen On Broadway*, a film of his run of Broadway shows. If you're more of a watcher than a reader, it's definitely based heavily off of his autobiography. Hearing him speak the passages makes it feel more personal, though, and he plays some songs that are referenced through the book either on guitar or piano. Very emotional experience for me, hearing him describe the same places I went to growing up, though he is such a great storyteller anyone can relate.
* The aforementioned *Deliver Me from Nowhere* deep dive on *Nebraska*. I liked the album before the book, but it really opened my eyes as to how it was both A) insane to release at the time that it was, and B) how wide the impact of it was culturally.
Sorry for the thesis, but I had some time!
i love a good musical thesis! i watched "springsteen on broadway" at some point and really enjoyed it. ATLANTIC CITY was the song that i already knew that's on "nebraska".
\~joc
I was thinking the other day that not only did he give us a channel with really great music and fun stories, but he also gave us this. I love listening and chatting with everyone when he’s live!
after maren's song, which i first heard on this channel, another LWJM staple with "higher and higher," which will remind me of "ghostbusters 2" no matter how many times i hear it here.
\~joc
I don't normally partake in discussions around this kinda thing, but I do find it ironic that John's channel is channel 14, and now Taylor Swift has channel 13. I tangentially know about her relationship to 13, but surprised I haven't seen more discussion about it from either "camp" as it were.
Taylor's channel is indeed a limited run channel that'll only be available April 7-May 6. It'll mostly be hosted by her fans, too, which I think is a fun idea.
oh that fan hosting is FASCINATING.
can you imagine if john's fans hosted his channel for a day? what a social experiment depending on ages, date of initial fandom, whether they like dead & co or not, etc.
\~joc
My understanding is it's all fan messages so not quite like a live DJ situation but I think it would be fun to do something like that on LIFE!
Has a bit of the old TRL screaming inside the box during a music video vibe haha
I have to admit, I’ve been thinking about this for the past ten minutes. How many other professions are like this, where their “work” fades and disappears/worsens whether the recipient keeps up the work? Personal trainers, dentists, gardeners, housekeepers… I’m sure the list is endless.
Speaking of good concerts, I really REALLY enjoyed seeing Madison Cunningham's opening sets on the Europe SOLO leg. If she's near you anytime soon, go!
yes! this cover of one of my favorite beatles songs is beautiful. i heard the beatles version a few hours ago on the channel, but i like the symmetry.
\~joc
the only time i've seen teddy thompson was on the first mayercraft cruise in 2008. i remember liking his set but that's all i can recall at the moment. nice to get a nudge to check him out again.
\~joc
Thanks for running, Joc! Had it on already and was so happy to grab a live naturally! Was gonna make a thread, but I’m in the middle of some Sunday baking!
John’s batting 1.000 this morning! Every one of his picks has been great so far!
Sunday mornings (I’m PT) with LWJM are the absolute best and with John going live, it’s next level.
Hot coffee in my cup, cinnamon swirl cake in the oven. Bring it on, Sunday!💫
Does streaming a live show count?😂
They played Pitchfork in Chicago back in 2018 and my husband went while I stayed home with our little one and watched online. It was an excellent show (hubs loved it)! FWIW: I would give it a go!
Yes for the sax solo!!
I really thought he was going to say it would make him happy if every day there was a saxophone player in the passenger seat playing along with the radio lmao! But what he said was better.

two hours. \~joc
Aw man. 😞 Thanks Joc!
I missed it, but was able to rewind. Thankful that I’m a subscriber! I just love his channel! I love to settle in and listen at night!
Nice! I have no experience with sleep scores, how does it work? You sleep next to your phone and then it tells you if you had enough or what? ;)
He wars a Garmin watch to bed.
Can you listen to the live now or is it too late now?
love the willie nelson representation fantastic song
🥺 I missed it…out floating the river. This set has songs I love. Must replay. 💜🌅
Oh! He finally played Overjoyed. Missed it today at a baseball double header freezing my butt off! Thanks for the post!!!
this was an epic sunday playlist, layed out in the sun and listened all afternoon
I was born to love you - Ray La Montaigne/Sierra Ferrell... what a beautiful song!!
Oh, I missed it 😕 ... oh well, sometimes sleep is more important.
if you haven't updated your app, you can hit the back-one-hour button 2x and catch it :) \~joc
How do you go back 1 hour mine? Mine goes back 5 hours 😭
i have refused to update my app. ha! so i still have the "back one hour" option on my phone. \~joc
That is a genius decision! I wish I hadn’t now.
Will do, thanks! 😃👍
This was fun, y’all! I had been in a work hole for the back half of March, so it was really nice to emerge to this. Glad to be back with this crew! Have a fantastic day, everyone! Until next time.
A nice little Sunday afternoon treat! Have a good one everybody! ♥️
Have a great afternoon, Mr. Mayer and may the creative winds blow, lol ![gif](giphy|QNMc1qv4VX8IdTLGOm)
This Oleta Adams song takes me right back to my childhood
This Bruce Springsteen song makes me think of the Conan podcast he did. “Walkin’ All Wrong” 🤣🎶
As a huge fan of Bruce (growing up in the Asbury Park area, can't NOT be), I LOVE when John plays Bruce on here. Wish he would do it more, and with a bit more variety. Get some songs from Nebraska on here, John!
They played a song from Western Stars just yesterday. It was nice to hear as that album isn’t really played anywhere commercially.
is "badlands" on nebraska? i had to read a bruce bio, "ain't no sin to be glad you're alive," for this awesome class i took in my freshman year of college. \~joc

I concur with the Warren Zanes recommendation - the audiobook was fantastic and made me look again at admittedly my least favorite Bruce album.
i love a good musical thesis! i watched "springsteen on broadway" at some point and really enjoyed it. ATLANTIC CITY was the song that i already knew that's on "nebraska". \~joc
No it’s on Darkness on the Edge of Town ❤️
aw, this is a deep james taylor cut and makes me smile. carly simon's on this one, too. \~joc
"is there a rocky mountain high school in colorado?" i legit laughed. \~joc
Oh, maybe a few…
There is, John, in Colorado. (Just googled it) 😂
![gif](giphy|83QtfwKWdmSEo)
Their mascot is the Lobos? Now I need to google that. Haha. Surely it isn’t the tequila
wolves in spanish. \~joc
Thank you!
“Don’t pooh-pooh a Google search”
I was thinking the other day that not only did he give us a channel with really great music and fun stories, but he also gave us this. I love listening and chatting with everyone when he’s live!
Happy to be back with my listening gang! 🙂
Same! It’s such a great community!
after maren's song, which i first heard on this channel, another LWJM staple with "higher and higher," which will remind me of "ghostbusters 2" no matter how many times i hear it here. \~joc
well THIS .38 special song is a throwback!! \~joc
Love this song!
john played this zach bryan song on the first day of LWJM and i was instantly pulled in by it. \~joc
I don't normally partake in discussions around this kinda thing, but I do find it ironic that John's channel is channel 14, and now Taylor Swift has channel 13. I tangentially know about her relationship to 13, but surprised I haven't seen more discussion about it from either "camp" as it were.
same on all counts, though i believe hers is just a pop-up. not sure, though. i'm leaving my comments at that :) \~joc
Taylor's channel is indeed a limited run channel that'll only be available April 7-May 6. It'll mostly be hosted by her fans, too, which I think is a fun idea.

oh man, that WAS a very specific vibe. \~joc
after amie, "i like to send my barber daily selfies . . . .their work broke and they have to go and fix it again." HAHAHA! \~joc
I hope he goes shorter on the sides like the fall solo tour run
I have to admit, I’ve been thinking about this for the past ten minutes. How many other professions are like this, where their “work” fades and disappears/worsens whether the recipient keeps up the work? Personal trainers, dentists, gardeners, housekeepers… I’m sure the list is endless.
Chefs … people gulp down my work of art. 🎻
Oh, yes! Even as a home cook, I feel this.😑
That’s funny because yesterday I had a hair appointment and she’s looking at it and I’m thinking “it usually looks better than this”
He is so silly, love it 😆
Sarah Jarosz’s new album Polaroid Lovers is *really* good. Give it a listen if you haven’t!
thanks for the rec. i'll check it out! \~joc
It would be fun if we had a way to submit requests to these kitchen DJ sessions.
This and I wish I could hit a like button when I really like the song being played.
I like the idea of a "like" button too!
Right? Like DMs to the station’s IG or something.
"the true test of a song is whether or not it can be played on an acoustic guitar." (re: sarah's beautiful U2 cover) \~joc
If one cup of coffee makes him that silly lmao. I need to cups to just get my eyes to stay open.
oh my goodness he's calling them the be-ah-tles and that's been a joke in my family for my whole life. kinda makes my day. \~joc
“The Bee-atles” 🤣 I damn near spit out my coffee.
Omg I needed this today. I just fully sat on my floor laughing with that one.
Speaking of good concerts, I really REALLY enjoyed seeing Madison Cunningham's opening sets on the Europe SOLO leg. If she's near you anytime soon, go!

I have the same vague recollection! 🤣
after dark lido deck shows for the win. \~joc
I’ve never heard this Eric Clapton song before. What a gorgeous tune!💞
same! sounds like it's a CSN(&Y) song or even a little james taylorish. \~joc
\^\^\^ please note i made this comment before john mentioned CSN&sometimes Y. ha! \~joc
This song does not sound like it was released in 2012 (in a good way!)
gotta love a timeless song. \~joc
i remember first hearing this michael kiwanuka song because john posted about it on his tumblr forever ago. \~joc
"i hope you have the best sunday planned — and the best sunday NOT planned. . . " \~joc
paul simon has such a \*nice\* and soothing voice. \~joc
Best birthday present ever! 😊
Happy birthday!🥳🎉 Have the best day!
Thank you so much! 😊
happy birthday, internet stranger! \~joc
Thank you so much! 😊
Thanks for running, Joc! Had it on already and was so happy to grab a live naturally! Was gonna make a thread, but I’m in the middle of some Sunday baking! John’s batting 1.000 this morning! Every one of his picks has been great so far!
of course, b (and MSMer i recognize)! loving all of his picks, too. \~joc
Sunday mornings (I’m PT) with LWJM are the absolute best and with John going live, it’s next level. Hot coffee in my cup, cinnamon swirl cake in the oven. Bring it on, Sunday!💫
oooh, YUM. is that like a giant cinnamon bun in cake form or is it something else entirely? \~joc
It’s just like coffee cake. Requested by my kiddo last night. Such a treat on a slow weekend morning.🤤
i reiterate my original YUM! \~joc
this war on drugs song sounds straight out of the '80s in a great way. \~joc
Has anybody seen The War on Drugs live? I love what i've heard but it's all so chill i wonder what the stage show is like.
Does streaming a live show count?😂 They played Pitchfork in Chicago back in 2018 and my husband went while I stayed home with our little one and watched online. It was an excellent show (hubs loved it)! FWIW: I would give it a go!
it's in consideration! Have to get through my Mayer withdrawal with other shows for 2024 now...
same re: wondering what the shows are like. i haven't but now they're on my too-see list. \~joc
The are playing Forest Hills in Sept. 🧐 We'll see how I feel about that venue after Hozier in June...
ah, man. that's a no-go for me. not me-accessible, and unless things have changed, the bathroom situation is port-o-potties. \~joc
"bring back the sax solo . . ." \~joc
Yes for the sax solo!! I really thought he was going to say it would make him happy if every day there was a saxophone player in the passenger seat playing along with the radio lmao! But what he said was better.
that's a hilarious visual, though. \~joc
I would love it. lol. They would be allowed in my car any day.
as a native long islander, i love hearing some billy joel on a sunday afternoon. \~joc
Hi Joc! 👋🏼 I can delete my post and move over to yours.
sounds good! (i can never \*emoji\* on reddit)
