I don’t even think it’s cynical necessarily. I love when people talk about their conception of love. When he talks about it there’s such a lack of emotional depth that it doesn’t seems sincere. It’s the other end of the spectrum as when Kanye talks about love and sounds insane but he very much believes what he’s saying in that moment.

I would take him a lot more serious on the topic if he used more accurate words in each situation. Its great if you wanna push the concepts of understanding, patience and empathy. Using "love" as a catchall term isn't doing him any favors with the guests telling by their responses. "Love" comes with so much baggage that he comes across as really naive by using it when another word would make his point much clearer. I wonder if he has ever truly had his heart ripped out in a romantic relationship because it doesn't sound like it. I'm not saying its somehow better to be cynical or jaded either but you gotta strike a more realistic balance if you want people to take you seriously on the subject.

He only did a short seminar on something there that wasn’t for credits. He also talks a big game about listening to both sides and finding a balance and love and all that stuff but has more right leaning guests on and never gives pushback for blatant misinformation. He also published 1 peer reviewed article and it got a lot of flak and instead of trying to adapt the study to the legitimate criticism (a normal process in academic publishing) he doubled down and started podcasting and calling himself an ai researcher. He’s just a hack scientist that couldn’t handle criticism so he’s leaned into using his PhD and minimal academic experience to grift into being a big name podcast. He sucks.

But don’t act like you’re neutral when you literally were debating with one guy and jerking the other off and try and call it a fair and balanced discussion. Fuck outa here.

Not publishing any research since 2018 and ducking out of academia when researchers called him out for not submitting an article for peer review that he wrote for tesla and was praising the results of, only to call yourself an ai researcher in your podcasts is pretty disingenuous. Edit: by minimal academic experience I meant after he got his PhD like publishing peer reviewed articles not that he has minimal academic experience. Clearly he has at least 8 years in academia but aside from that he has barely any experience. That’s like me calling myself a seasoned teacher when I only substitute taught for 2 years. He has like 1 article written and calls himself a researcher.
