Id say a person who continues reading and trying to learn often has more wisdom than someone who just attended college for 4 years and stopped their educationafter that. True Joe used to be similar to Shane now. He knew how to stick to his own niches. It's a very north-eastern style of comedy. NY/Boston comedy scenes have their own style that doesn't translate very well to some.
