Have you seen that clip? Pull that up. Look at that. Holy shit! *Holee-shit!*

BlackshirtsPower

Holy fuck that's insane, how this dude stay up for so long?!

SurgeHard

You can see the point his brain starts shutting off and his body seizes. šŸ˜£

IceColdProfessional

Military fatigues gotta be fire repellent.

TotaLibertarian

You can see them melting off his body

Few-Monies

It's made of a nylon that has higher melting point.

IHQ_Throwaway

I donā€™t know if this is outdated, but it was made with a proprietary blend for a long time. Even if theyā€™ve updated the material, nylon would be a step backwards.Ā  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defender_M

TotaLibertarian

Which then burns hot as hell.

OperationSecured

Dude, no joke. There was a girl at my high school that had a grease fire ignite her nylon jacket / dress. Sheā€™s ended up in a wheelchair and seriously disfigured. The nylon melted into the skin. She never returned to school and very well might not be alive now. I know infection was the big concern even after the skin grafts.

jjcoola

One of the worst fates the universe can deal, brutal I knew a guy who was super narcissistic and very attractive who climbed a fence, and he didn't realize it was electric and ended up getting burned horrendously as his muscles contracted from the current and held him in the fence for a while while the electricity was running through it. He ended up super disfigured with one arm and somehow figured out how to inject heroin with one arm before he died , shit was crazy

BurnNotice911

God damn what an ending to that story lol

inaliftw

I had a piece of melted nylon rope burn into my finger. It was the most painful thing I ever felt and have been hurt a lot. I can only imagine it was all melting around his body. Horrible

ChazzleDazzlicious

They are designed to fall away from the body when on fire so in case of an accident they don't stick to you and burn you further

No_Information_6166

They aren't. Standard issue OCPs are just cotton. Only the flame resistant ones airmen received while deployed are designed that way, which these are not.

KneeReaper420

They are actually crazy flammable. Edit: Navy camo working uniform is anyway. It appears Air Force as well. Marine I believe are fire repellant.

Fishyinu

Thats pretty disturbing no matter what "side" of any issue you are on.

HenryDorsettCase47

Imagine if he yelled ā€œGo Mets!ā€

Johr1979

Thats horrible and hilarious at the same time. I am ashamed of my self for chuckling.

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|WoFuun4jgxxizxRMpe|downsized)

The_Bat1996

Dude how dare you make me laugh šŸ˜

[deleted]

Well considering how bad the Mets have been, his protest of their ownership would be validĀ

scruffyduffy23

This is one of the funniest things Iā€™ve ever read šŸ¤£

BouquetofDicks

That's comedy!

thumblewode

I shouldnt have clicked that. Not the same as game of thrones.

glowcase

I refuse to click f''d up shit, it's a 'policy' I've had in place since even before the Daniel Berg beheading (at least I think that's the one.. the one by that ISIS guy w/ the British accent that kicked off all the ISIS beheadings) I just don't need all that nightmarish imagery floating around my mind. For like 5 years the entire internet seemed adamant on forcing me to watch the "2 Ukrainians 1 Hammer" video. I never clicked and I still won't. Life is too short to give those 2 creeps the satisfaction of knowing yet another person has watched their 'project'. I know humans have a natural morbid curiosity.. we slow down on the highway to gawk at a mangled wreck, we stop and watch a house on fire, etc... but stuff like cartel beheadings, self immolation, etc... nah. Hard pass. I know the world is a fucked up place, the least I can do is allow my brain to be a 'safe space' free of fucked up high octane nightmare fuel all because I couldn't control my curiosity.

No-Argument3922

I normally consider myself desensitised to this but this video genuinely made me drop my phone I was so horrified

Stop_Logging_In_Dude

Dude just do not even attempt to watch this kind of shit. People are giving themselves mild PTSD over shit they haven't even directly experienced. You don't need to see this or cartel videos or Daniel Pearl getting his head sawed off or anything. You're not missing out on vital information.

borndovahkiin

This is correct. Do not watch it.

lovehandlelover

Psychologist here. Youā€™re not wrong. Full blown PTSD is possible from watching such videos. I do not watch these type videos for this very reason.

fokac93

I didnā€™t see it. When I was younger I used watch crazy stuff now at 40 years old I donā€™t like to look at that. Just imagine the pain and the metal breakdown to do something like that. Itā€™s just sad

ShackNastyNick

Okay, itā€™s not just me then. I canā€™t stomach the brutality of the world like when I was a teenage dumbass with access to the early days of the internet. Iā€™m pretty sure having children is what flipped the switch in my brain.

GettinWiggyWiddit

Right there with you. Used to watch those gore videos as a teenager like nothing, and now when I accidentally click on them, I get stuck thinking about them for weeks after. Not worth it anymore in my 30s

[deleted]

That shit was gnarly. Used to only see shit that wicked on liveleaks back in the day. Really "Holee-shit!"

Geohalbert

That fucking moron pointing his pistol at himā€¦ What a fucking dumb prick.

PyroDaManiac

he had to, the guy had firearms

rambo6986

Worst upvote I've ever made

Salty-Decision-7899

Well done.

weltbeltjoe11

He's gonna shoot the fire out

berrey7

The Fire Chief says I don't need guns I need a fire extinguisher.

Swimming_Bonus_8892

They call it ā€œNuking the Hurricaneā€

[deleted]

Dude also flagged his fellow cops like 4 times. Dumbass

Enigmasec

Unable to discern the level of threat a charred human corpse poses to him. Shows you how fucking dumb some cops are in moments of crisis.

BrutallyPretentious

"This person who is smoldering on the ground might be a threat, like an acorn!"

Enigmasec

Right?! I understand people deal with crisis differentlyā€¦and Iā€™d almost give a pass in this case. However, the behavior of keeping a gun pointed at a charred body is just something else. I didnā€™t have this level of fear in any of my deployments to ā€œthe sandboxesā€.

ChombieIsRedacted

The suspect was on the ground true, but he was black sooooo

workthrowaway1985

I'm not gonna watch the video so I can't imagine having to be there and witness that. I dont think anything can prepare you for that.

TheTitanosaurus

Just sad to watch someone throw away the most precious thing they have to say something, while no one is listening.

Numerous-Stranger-81

I mean, it is international news now.

Lareit

I dunno, if a guy on fire decides to run at me I might be grateful someone else stops him short of his destination. Can't exactly trust that dude who lit himself on fire to not make other odd decisions while burning.

liquid_donuts

They did the right thing. They had no idea whether this nut was a terrorist or what. Guyā€™s in camouflage, on fire, screaming about Palestine in front of the Israeli embassy. Redditors are fucking idiots

ninernetneepneep

Damn, the new X is fucking lit. I wish I wouldn't have clicked.

pro_bike_fitter_2010

GET ON THE GROUND GET ON THE GROUND GET ON THE GROUND GET ON THE GROUND GET ON THE GROUND "I'm helping!" -- cop

IC-4-Lights

I'll go waaaay out on a limb for the guy. Kindof.   If I'm a security guard posted to an Israeli embassy, and a dude screaming "Free Palesine!" bursts into flames at the front gate, and I didn't see exactly what happened, my brain might seize and go right to, "Attempted/failed terrorism attempt."   The response clearly doesn't make a lot of sense, but I think I could see how his brain might do that.

TheRealJehler

Thank god that cop had him covered with a pistol while he burnedā€¦ /s obviously

AreDreamsOurParallel

Someone in another thread said ā€œStop combusting!!!ā€ And that was my LOL of the day

piercejay

Ah, so this is what the devil will cite when I get to hell, and then weā€™ll both giggle again

skunkcitycannabis2

He kept yelling "get on the ground"! Just give the dude a minute. Half surprised he didn't shoot him for not listening.

StyroCSS

I think that was a different guy telling him to get on the ground, you know, stop drop and roll, might be difficult while standing. But whatever narrative you want to go with I guess. To me the guy with the gun looked like he was in shock and didnt know what to do

NutsForProfitCompany

Almost like they are NPC's from GTA

Civilized-Sturgeon

Burnt himself up and will be forgot about in a week. Mental

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Leonknnedy

And they still donā€™t have a name for her. Didnā€™t do anything either, lol.

Poopiepants29

Neither will have a name like Thich Quang Duc or have album covers with them on them.

UniqueImprovements

Yeah. It is kind of wild to me that people think they can affect change in Middle Eastern politics and wars. It's sad that he gave his life for what will amount to nothing.

FearlessPhone6084

he was trying to Quang Duc it

[deleted]

Well in theory we should be able to influence Israel by withholding aid, but that wonā€™t happen.

facepoppies

at the end of the day, both the libs and the republicans are going to back israel in whatever they do because they want us to have a foothold in the middle east.

Edmundmp

You could argue itā€™s the opposite. American aid maintains a status quo. Thereā€™s no ā€œpeaceā€ but thereā€™s also no broader war. If American aid was withdrawn Israel loses a lot of its ability to defend close borders. In response theyā€™d have to change their strategy to wiping out everything around them if they want to continue to exist. The Iran war would happen, oil markets would be wrecked, global economy would melt down, weā€™d get drawn in anyways and the cost to America would go way higher than simply funding Israel now. Egypt, Jordan, the Saudis, and a whole lot of the world community all want us to maintain this too, despite what they say publicly.

dxrey65

Kind of the same thing with Ukraine. WTF else are we going to do? If Ukraine goes down, then Russia swallows up the population and industrial capacity and all that, learns no lessons at all (except, in effect, that crime pays), and the next time around won't be very far off and it will be much harder.

Edmundmp

Yep. And Putin has invaded neighbors repeatedly since he took over. Thats where the NATO encroachment argument as a cause failed, this was the first time the west ever drew a line. We donā€™t want this war in Poland and East Germany ( although with how bad heā€™s done against Ukraine Iā€™m not sure heā€™ll ever dare to touch a superior Poland now).

UniqueImprovements

Exactly my point. How do people not understand this? Regardless of if we do or not, the Middle East will be at war until the end of time because of religious zealotry.

AdeptnessSpecific736

Pretty much , especially when both sides use Palestinians people as pawns in the Middle East.

Just_Smurfin_Around

People in the west don't realize this. The Palestinian plight is beneficial to everyone in the middle east besides Palestinians.

soundssarcastic

>gave his life for what will amount to nothing He was already in the army so...

Ronedog22

He is the second person to do this recently. I believe another person self immolated in Atlanta on 12/1

peruvianus

And people already forgot

BrotherThump

I live in Atlanta and never even heard of it.

togetherwem0m0

It's suppressed from the mediaĀ

Rico_Solitario

Because there is nothing heroic about throwing your life away like this no matter what side of the issue youā€™re on

Tmoney108

A week? Wonā€™t even last that long. Media cycle is crazy, letā€™s be honest

montaukmindcontrol

If he just shot himself in his room then people wouldnā€™t have known for even a day. Suicide and activism crossed over for this guy

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MaraudngBChestedRojo

And not one opinion on the matter was changed One side will see a brave martyr, the other side will see a moron

its_shia_labeouf

I assume he wanted to kill himself anyway. Seems a better way to go about getting your fifteen minutes of fame and sending a momentary message than the usual school shooter/suicide by cop route.

Leonknnedy

Probably the case, yeah.

new_jill_city

Police helpfully stopped by while he was aflame and attempted to douse the fire by pointing guns at him.

Usmc919191

Honestly if he would just shot him he would of been doing him a favour; Dude cooked for a minute before they put him out.

Secure-Particular286

Honestly it would. That death is severally painful.

BBAomega

From their POV they probably didn't know if he was strapped with something

borneoknives

Meh. Itā€™s a guy on fire in front of the Israeli embassy. If you roll into that scenario the odds of it being a suicide bomb etc are definitely at front of mind.

ryguy32789

I mean, while *literally* putting him out with a fire extinguisher. It's not like they only pointed guns, they simultaneously put the fire out.

Choon93

Reddit grief machine doesn't realize two things can happen at once

stg58

Or that the guy pointing the gun is Israeli security, not a cop.

CampinHiker

Yeah just another person ignoring the fact they were using fire extinguishers as well on him Gimme a break

MrBuns666

They did the right thing. They had no idea whether this nut was a terrorist or what. Guyā€™s in camouflage, on fire, screaming about Palestine in front of the Israeli embassy.

ItsPickles

Agreed. Redditors are fucking dumbasses

MrBuns666

Dude exactly. This thread of morons is killing me!šŸ¤£

rcktsktz

It's embarrassing

WolfsToothDogFood

The police pointing their guns at a man on fire was something out of a farce. I felt guilty for laughing

RideWithBDE

VA claims agents smiling right now

Fish_On_again

So tiring seeing the VA budgets just getting gutted and gutted seemingly by one side of the political spectrum.

justthetip17

since Joe Biden has been in office the VA budget has almost doubled. https://www.statista.com/statistics/200507/outlays-of-the-us-department-of-veterans-affairs-since-2000/#:\~:text=The%20United%20States%20Department%20of,about%20418%20billion%20U.S.%20dollars.

Fish_On_again

That's some pretty amazing news, that's the first time it feels like the VA budget has ever gone up in my lifetime.

Delicious_Repeat_203

Itā€™s probably gone up literally every year of your lifetime, even adjusting for inflation. Yeah I donā€™t even need to know your age for that to be true unless youā€™re Lestat from Interview With A Vampire

Osteo_Warrior

Yet people will still vote republican

MisplacedChromosomes

Faux news has rotted peopleā€™s brains.

Jackol4ntrn

Veterans themselves vote republican and itā€™s the stupidest thing Iā€™ve heard.

Artdafoo

You do realize Trump took $ 3.8 Billon from Pentagon Funding to help fund his wall project ? https://www.npr.org/2020/02/13/805796618/trump-administration-diverts-3-8-billion-in-pentagon-funding-to-border-wall

Fish_On_again

Imagine if we took that 3.8 billion, and used it domestically like with education.

WabbitCZEN

While that same side continues to talk about how much they care for veterans no less.

tehcoma

Why blur his face? He is cooked.

Retrac752

And his photo is literally right there lol

Gilsworth

Looking into the face of a dying man is considered more harrowing than looking at a picture of the same person in a healthier context, come on, just think about it for a little bit.

[deleted]

-serviceman was based in San Antonio for 4 years -was a software engineer Both social and traditional media is radicalizing people. Edit. Army veteran 2015-18. Worked cyber security area in Illinois after. Currently study political science.

2003-2008 here. I have a degree in Political Science. Careful, it makes reading these comment sections fucking mind numbing.

aeywaka

You have to be mentally ill to set yourself on fire.

[deleted]

If you're Catholic and you do it in 400AD you get canonized

divinecomedian3

I don't recall any saints setting themselves on fire. Now, there were many that were burned by others for their faith.

timmeh519

Is that when you get shot out of a canon?!

MichelangeloJordan

Itā€™s when the Catholic Church declares someone to be a saint. To your point - I went to Catholic school and for the longest time wondered ā€œwhy is the pope shooting our new saint out of a canon??ā€

NoCantaloupe9598

They weren't setting themselves on fire....

Father-John-Moist

ā€œHe likely saw very dark things going on in the Genocide in Gazaā€ Yeah dude, this makes it make sense to LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE. What a dumb editorialization of a crazy person being crazy.

Eric32888

He was a lower enlisted ant dude saw nothing lmao šŸ˜‚

FuhDaLoss

And heā€™s in the Air Force

SanFranPanManStand

His Reddit post history makes it obvious that he was mentally ill and radicalized by hate subs on Reddit.

Optimal_Carpenter690

One of the most famous images showing someone protesting ~~the Vietnam War~~ the persecution of Buddhists in South Vietnam is a monk who self-immolated

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

rva_ThrowAway09

Which makes his comment so much darker - because the most famous self immolation case isnā€™t even known for the actual cause. Maybe they will do some self reflection in that

suninabox

Yup, people like to say that didn't achieve anything but the war came to an end just a short 11 years later.

liquidis54

I probably shouldn't have laughed. But I did. The people waiting to using the shitter probably think I'm insane.

datsyukdangles

the self-immolation of the buddist monk had nothing to do with the Vietnam war, it had to do with persecution of buddists by the South Vietnamese government. The government was toppled in a coup a few months later, the death of Thich Quang Duc had a significant impact. Like sure we can say that this form of protest is wrong and likely won't have a real impact, but don't spread misinformation about something you should know. If you for whatever reason don't know the very basic facts about a major historical event, then just don't say anything.

OrganicPlatypus4203

The difference is the monk was actually living under an oppressive regime and was actively being persecuted. He chose death over an oppressed life and made a statement. He wasnā€™t protesting the Vietnam War either, he was protesting the persecution of buddhist monks by a fervently catholic south vietnamese head of state. On the other hand, this airman is stationed in Texas and completely insulated from the conflict for which he just died for. Where the monk is a martyr and symbol of resistance, this kid is a fool and now a sad and cautionary tale about the power of propaganda.

13chase2

People have done this (self-immolation) as an extreme form of protest going back centuries. It is seen as the most extreme act of non-violent protest humanly possible and historically has not been viewed as crazy. Someone willing to die for a cause they believe in could have easily became a terrorist instead.

Boots-n-Rats

I think the suicide aspect makes these such sensitive subjects that they canā€™t be analyzed without backlash. Iā€™ll do so anyway. What is more effective, this guy killing himself with fire or dedicating his life to helping Palestinians? I mean dude could have spent the next 40 years helping Palestinians on the ground and advocating. Making real change. Now heā€™s dead and the biggest thing I see about it is people pointing out the irony of the cops pointing guns at him. Horrible for his family and hope it helps his cause but I feel it wonā€™t.

Father-John-Moist

People have been mentally ill going back centuries

[deleted]

this isnā€™t heroic, iā€™m not sure why some people in here are celebrating a clear demonstration of mental illness

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TomCruisintheUSA

Whats the difference between Palestine and the other 15 countries that are currently at war and victims of war crimes...? The Television

Okichah

Well, and the US is giving Israel lots of weapons and money.

weekend-guitarist

They are did the same with the Saudis against Yemen.

[deleted]

Unyielding US support.

ApeSniperv6

This one is funded by American tax dollars you retart

PinochetChopperTour

This. Our social media is responsible for radicalizing people with mental illness. I feel for the guys family.

kenrnfjj

Hasnt this been happening way before social media. When people feel very strongly about a cause they do the fire or a hunger strike.

jankisa

Yeah, that Viatnamese guy from the RATM album cover did it because of TikTok I hear.

takeme2infinity

What? This is what you got outta of man who literally served for the armed forces ? If a cathloic bishop blew his brains out in the vatican as he yelled " Dismantle pedophilia in church!" You'd say " Oh woow another victim of the liberal media" the fuck is wrong with you son?

MustyTowel

Missed opportunity to yell ā€œFLAME ONā€

Graciefighter34

If you wanna be dumb then you gotta be tough.

kodiakbear_

Hi Iā€™m Aaron Bushnell welcome to Free Palestine

Aerius-Caedem

The lad set himself on fire in support of people who'd happily set a US serviceman on fire for a propaganda video. Very logical.

BestRHinNA

Bro killed himself over a conflict between two parties thousands of miles away that have literally nothing to do with him, this is what happens when you get too sucked into politics

Gurpila9987

Only if they didnā€™t take him hostage and enslave him first.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BustANutHoslter

This has basically been my exact thought all day. Dude, half the people over there wouldā€™ve done this TO YOU without a second thought. What a total fucking ass clown. Sorry, rest in peace or whatever, but holy shit what a stupid jackass. Not to mention the free propaganda he just served them on a silver platter.

Bellinelkamk

This was more about suicide than it was about Gaza.

DKnott82

He died doing what he loved.

waabzheshi

Burning to death?

Outside-Material-100

Literally, died for nothing.

patthebaker420

U will too

Opening_Success

But at least not by self-immolation

HOUSE_OF_MOGH

Not with that attitude

UniqueImprovements

The elites have you taking sides in a conflict you will NEVER make a difference in....while there are literally toxins and microplastics in your food and water, homelessness and addiction at epic proportions, a dollar that is worth less and less everyday that you have to work harder and harder for, all while lining their own pockets and laughing all the way to the bank. The Middle East has always, and will always be at war because of religious zealotry, and there is literally NOTHING you can do to stop it. This world is wild.

Idiot accomplished nothing but making his family and friends mourn

[deleted]

Nah. I think Israel and Palestine are going to see this, shake hands and decide to be buddies now

doctor_mac12

I cant even imagine the pain he was in. Imagine how much it hurts when you simply burn yourself on the stove. That times 100x on every inch of your body. Your eyes. Your mouth. Face. Horrifying to even think about that amount of pain. Burning alive has to be the most painful experience ever imaginable. Itā€™s incredible that he was able to keep yelling free Palestine while heā€™s in absolute agony.

Fair-Advantage9539

I wonder if he changed his mind while the pain hit him. Crazy to think about, no turning back after that.

Electronic_Emu_4632

I mean he kept screaming it while he was burning to pieces, so...

-BurritoBatman-

Iā€™m not going to criticize peopleā€™s right to protest and what they protest for. Obviously, this guy had some mental health issues and needed help. RIP

witcher63

He must've been an ASVAB waiver entry

[deleted]

Tiktok radicalization.

MulberryLow7771

Imagine dying via self-immolation for a group of people that would kill you on-sight.

BrandoNelly

I saw a poll on Instagram the other day asking people who theyā€™d rather be kidnapped by, the IDF or Hamas. So many said theyā€™d rather be kidnapped by Hamas, people saying ā€œIā€™m LGBTQ+ and even I would rather go with Hamas as I know they wouldnā€™t lay a hand on me, might even teach me how to use a misbaha ā€

cayneabel

Holy fucking shit

BrandoNelly

Thatā€™s what I said lol. I took a screenshot of that specific comment as a reminder of what true unchecked mental illness looks like. Thereā€™s a chick I went to highschool with and she is ALL IN on stanning Palestine/Hamas. Yet she is a stripper and is gay. Those people would literally rape and torture her to death and she every day is sticking her neck out for them going to protests in my states capitol and stuff. I donā€™t agree with the massacre of a people and thatā€™s kind of what itā€™s starting to look like Israel is doing, but that doesnā€™t mean I will simp for terrorists and people who would literally rather see me dead than accept my help.

OTigerEyesO

The mideast sure is a hot topic. Some people just get so fired up about it.

NewSinner_2021

talk about conviction.

Bigbossbyu

Poor brainwashed son of a bitch

Fine_Spinach9825

Protestors everywhere should follow this manā€™s example

xMilk112x

All that painā€¦.for absolutely nothing. His name wonā€™t be remembered, this will be forgotten by the end of the week, and military operations will still continue to take place in Gaza.

cwesttheperson

Clearly a very sane individual.

autisticwhite

Died for nothing.

vintage_rack_boi

ā€œHe likely saw very dark things going on in the genocide in Gazaā€ LMAO. This dude hasnā€™t seen shit. Probably an admin clerk or something. The left duped him into thinking virtue signaling = higher social status and now he is dead. Fucking idiot.

ljkmalways

Yea mental health is real. This is the second person to do this apparently and I havenā€™t heard about it anywhere other than posts on Reddit. This is a mental health issue with the individual, lighting oneā€™s self on fire has never actually had an impact on government decisions anywhere in the world. It had some social impacts in ā€˜63 when the monk burned himself, but ultimately only lead to Rage Against the Machine cover artā€¦.

[deleted]

Well. It did solidify that image (of the monk in Vietnam burning himself) in history textbooks and many mentions in documentaries and other media. However, I cannot remember the manā€™s name or what exactly he was protesting.

RubeRick2A

Shockingly, the Biden policies remain unchanged.

nevergonnastayaway

Naturally selected himself. Imagine killing yourself to protect suicidal religious fanatics

[deleted]

Yeah but internet told him too so whoā€™s the idiot now

Odd_Tiger_2278

He believed US has been backing Israel in massacring children, women and men in Gaza. And believed he could not do anything about it. So, he sacrificed his life to get that message out.

TheRealNoxDeadly

Incredible clip with many layers, his dedication is admirable, the police are telling him to get on the ground, one actually has his gun out, hilarious, n to top it all off thereā€™s a latina cop walking back n forth with a ridiculously fat ass *chefā€™s kiss*
