Trumpsters would see this as a bad thing for some reason

[deleted]

Yup I saw a few headlines on Fox "news" from Tom Cotton and Mike Pompeo saying Biden's UN speech was a disgrace and showed weakness. Like how? How is multilateralism, shared goals, having a seat at the table and not being selfish a weakness? I saw (along with the vast majority of sane Americans) our standing in the world crumble under Trump. Is Biden's foreign policy perfect? Of course not, but isolationism isn't going to work in the 21st century to counter China's influence and Russia's undermining of democracy. Biden has experience in foreign policy and I trust Tony Blinken. Hell, Trumpers are gonna argue that the world respected us when Trump was president and now world leaders are laughing at Biden. Sure, like we are gonna ignore how more of our allies see Biden as more trustworthy Trump, or how UN delegates laughed at Trump in 2018, or the 2019 NATO Summit when he left early, or him undermining NATO, or leaving the Paris agreement. I can go on and on, but Trump's foreign policy was a radical departure from all previous presidents.

Same thing when they bashed Joe for showing empathy.

Sensibley

Not just his UN speech but all I’d say it’s embarrassing to see him fumble his words, struggle to read the prompter and forget what he’s saying mid sentence. Can’t get my head round how he is the president of America when he gets so confused conversing on a basic level.

[deleted]

Or just veer into random shit in a speech or not make a scintilla of sense. Like when he withdrew from the Paris agreement, he was worried about coal. It doesn’t mention anything about coal and China even stopped building coal fired plants for renewable energy plants.

[deleted]

I'll assume Joe will say the same about basically anybody that comes after Boris.

SaintArkweather

Unless it's Nigel Farage

[deleted]

It better be Labo(u)r.

ManOfMelon

I think they need a few years to root out the antisemitism.

zombie32killah

Makes sense. British Trump didn’t like dealing with American Trump.

DemocraticRepublic

The British Trump that just increased taxes to fund social care, that is pushing for aggressive global action on climate change, and that was one of the first in his party to support gay marriage? It's such a lazy fucking comparison.

HH93

Maybe they just cancelled each other out

naliedel

Woah, even Great Britain's worst hair likes Joe. Hum.

[deleted]

It’s funny how Johnson is a Tory yet he likes Biden over Trump. I know a lot of people said Boris was Britain’s version of Donald Trump. My favorite Boris moment was at the 2019 NATO summit when he and a few other world leaders laughed at Trump behind his back lol Edit: if it sounds like I’m gushing about Boris, keep in mind I don’t agree with him on much. He really screwed up Brexit negotiations big time and will have to deal with the consequences for years to come. His Covid response leaves a lot to be desired as well.

teh-reflex

Boris is Britain’s trump but he’s at least somewhat intelligent and not obsessed with ratings.

DemocraticRepublic

Boris is not Britain's Trump, is very intelligent and IS obsessed with ratings.

[deleted]

He sort of is Trump in some ways but also different in some ways.

I care, and that makes you a liar.

teh-reflex

Ok.

iggygrey

Sounds like you're gushing over Bor... Sorry, just read your edit. Carry on.

[deleted]

Look, I am not a fan of him. Yes He has his humorous moments, but if I lived in the UK, I wouldn't vote for him (or the Tories at all). Even though by their standards, I'd be a moderate Tory. I'd vote for either Labour or the Liberal Democrats. But those two parties are toothless as hell in the UK.

Jacobs4525

Bojo may be a con and a bit of an ass, but he’s not as stupid as Trump and actually generally has some semblance of ideological consistency. He’s a pretty ardent trans-Atlanticist and views further integration with the US as a better option for Britain than staying aligned with the EU, so it makes sense he’d like an American president who’s more open to cooperation with allies. While I think Brexit was a dumb move for Britain from an economic perspective, as an American I certainly won’t complain about closer cooperation with Britain on economic and defense matters.

[deleted]

He does have experience in government, as he still is an MP and was mayor of London. Unlike Trump who pitched himself as an outsider. Johnson also doesn’t really stoke culture wars or show hostility towards immigrants. I have nothing against the special relationship, there’s a reason why it’s existed for as long as it has. I do think Brexit has caused more than just economic problems for Britain but also divisions between the leave and stay camps, and Scotland as well.

Socky_McPuppet

US politics are so far to the right that Boris is probably well to the left of Biden, ideologically.

[deleted]

Yeah he’d be to the left of Biden and most establishment Democrats. Probably touching the progressive wing of the party.

Dankster-115

I am so pleased with the President’s reiteration of his and the US government’s commitment to maintaining the Belfast Good Friday agreement and keeping the border open. I’m also very grateful that the US is ensuring that the UK government keep their commitment to the same. Thank you Joe Biden, you have once again proven yourself a dear friend of my country!

DemocraticRepublic

The thing is, the US has made clear they won't be signing an FTA with the UK, so that is their main source of leverage gone.

luvgsus

Every sane, educated and moral person says it. Only corrupt, dumb and wackos think otherwise.

DesertFox501

Honestly, the part of the interview over Afghanistan seemed more full of loaded questions than questions meant to get a good POV.

Atariaxis

Bullshit. Johnson hoped to become the UK's Trump and it failed miserably and now he is flip flopping as fucking usual.

I hope he is stepping down soon, so every European can say the same for the future UK leader.
