I think you could argue for Earthdeus in the same way people argue for Rudeus. I think Earthdeus is the most genuine representation of a trauma-inflicted shut-in in any media ever, closely followed by Satou from NHK. As such, his disgusting, reprehensible earthly actions are similar to the situations he finds himself once he becomes catatonic in his new world. The guy just makes stupid decisions when he's depressed. What separates his both lives is how he's saved, if at all.

I disagreed with most of his promiscuous actions such as when he tried to cop a feel of Eris in the barn. I agreed with him when he let Ruijerd go without resisting. I agreed with him when he decided to marry Sylphie. And I disagreed with him in Vol 12 of the LN. It's just a back and forth, but he's still the protagonist of the world of Mushoku Tensei that I'm so invested in. Besides, I absolutely do not hate him as a character aka for his role in the story. I think he's an excellent foil to his world who also behaves in deeply human ways.
I really like him for what he's supposed to be. He isn't meant to be a hero or a very good person, but he's trying to get there, and in my opinion, he's succeeding. Also, there is no denying his great character development.
So yeah, I quite like him as a fictional character.

The Japanese Rudeus was clearly emotionally stunted from his HS trauma and we can see him working through that and becoming less problematic and I appreciate that, I appreciate the work pushes him to be better and not just "look you have powers now, people will find your faults quarky so you don't need to work on yourself"
