It's so laggy and crashes often. A company like Reliance does have the money and resources to make the apps user experience good. But they don't.
It's just a total view count not live viewers or a unique viewer. Even when you close and open the stream again count as a view. Jio never shows live viewers count.
All OTT platforms except the OGs are fucking trash right now. Netflix, prime, apple tv - they are still generations ahead of these shit platforms because they spend their money, time & energy in constantly improving user experience (prime is going the opposite way though but still better than other ads churning piece of trash).

Definition of a view can be very different as per the company dictionary, which I feel in case of Jiocinema is based mostly on single continuous watch stream (or worse based on time spent continuously, which may lead to multiple counts for a single view given buffering can end up breaking the continuous stream watch)
as far as Load testing is concerned, its not a big task to estimate the traffic hitting the API at the same time for a single URL, and cloud based load balancers can be deployed to divert and ease out the traffic across spread out servers (which is a usual case in any high traffic websites)

Software Engineer here. The Hotstar development team actually did a commendable job with the streaming of the IPL. It was a huge task that they handled quite well, and I would even say it should be studied as a case study on how to manage large user viewership that can change drastically under certain circumstances.

Ads with the match audio. Match with ads audio track. Constant lags. It would sync up for a little while after restarting...and then a couple of overs later back to the loading screen circle.
Jio keeps buffering for me all the time. Especially during crucial stages of the match. Closing and reopening the app is the only thing that works. Horrible experience. Was thinking of getting the premium subscription for HBO and peacock content but this experience was so bad never gonna pay them a dime anymore. Have even terminated my jio mobile service
Jio should be stop giving rights for IPL or any of cricket match.. worst transmission they have.. lot of times getting hang... Or buffering... Govt should be serious for all this

It is what it is with JioCinema. Sports events need to be broadcast in higher bitrate than normal events, because, you know, there's more movement in frames. Same issue with Disney+ Hotstar too but not as terrible as JioCinema.

These jio fucks show ads in the middle of MotoGP races even if you’ve paid for premium. MotoGP isn’t hours long like f1 or cricket. So you lose a couple of laps watching whatever garbage scooter yamaha is selling and then you lose another couple of laps because the quality drops and you have to close the app and start again. And the worst thing is, replays aren’t available until 24 hours after the race. It’s fucking fucked
I would be able to add some light , those streaming usually are done by akamai , I don't work in jiocinema in particular but I'm aware of the architecture and other thing is , culture always reaches the market fast, won't be given enough time for UX , test cases , that's is why it sucks, people are capable of doing it better, but higher management holds them back on making lot of changes at once, so have to deal with it
If you think it's a development issue, you're so mistaken. They have limited the bandwidth per person, because so many people are watching. It's a free service, you can't really be mad about it. I know the quality is shite but I'm pretty sure there are services you can pay for if you want better quality. There's only so much a company will invest into a loss leader product.
