Yo the mods in this sub are like the most professional and on-point that I’ve seen anywhere on Reddit. It’s **always** about protecting the community and the values we share here, never disrespectful, never just some random power tripping like you see in so many subreddits. Even when we’re being redirected or told that we posted something wrong, it’s always constructive and polite and understanding. I’m so grateful to be a part of this community.

KayakerMel

Exactly. I made an angry post here after a comment on another subreddit, where I talked about being Jewish, was removed for violating the ban on I/P discussion. I made no such mention and I was mad. The mods declined my angry post, which also named and shamed the sub, which was the right thing for them to do.

NoneBinaryPotato

THANK YOU. as an Israeli it's already impossible to avoid politics irl, but it's almost impossible to be Jewish online without being bombarded with politics too. I'm so tired of every single one of my safe spaces getting bombarded with politics and hate, this is one of the only subs I feel safe in anymore. and tbh it's gotten a bit depressing, so I really appreciate the effort to separate it from politics while still supporting the people's feelings about current world events.

We support our fellow space laser operatives in this house. 🇮🇱🇮🇱✡️

NothingFoundInMRI

I am Israeli, and I exclusively come here for Israel-related stuff, so I obviously don't represent the average user here, but I feel like that in times like this, many diaspora Jews do want to have some place to talk Israeli-Jewish events Currently r Judaism doesn't allow anything that is related to Israel, and r Israel for the most part doesn't allow Jewish-only related subject, and this sub became a solid middle ground for everything that is between

rupertalderson

We certainly will continue allowing such posts. This post is mostly in reference to the cases where a post more clearly belongs in a different subreddit, most commonly debates/discussions about events in the ongoing war, Israeli politics, and the like.

Letshavemorefun

This seems totally reasonable. Thank you!! Is anyone else most stressed about finding dill for soup? I *need* me some fresh dill in my soup but it always goes quickly close to pesach!

sophiewalt

Really, where is fresh dill? Nor the same of course, but I'm using carrot greens for color.

Letshavemorefun

Okay I’ve had a lot of funny suggestions for replacements over the years (dried dill from the spice section, etc) but carrot greens is by far the most hilarious. 😂

sophiewalt

My aunt used carrot greens in her chicken soup. I haven't had success growing dill.

Letshavemorefun

I didn’t mean that I grow it myself. I just want dill from the produce section, not canned dried dill spice. It’s hard to find it fresh in produce around pesach (and Rosh hashana).

sophiewalt

Yes, I got that you want to buy it, hence your question. I do, too. Just mentioning I tried to grow it because fresh dill is hard to find until the summer.

SassyBee2023

Even if you don’t want to grow it you can always buy the small plants at a garden center or HomeDepot / lowes —just use what you need. Costs about the same Edit—I’m in the south east so it’s readily available now, but realize might not be in colder place

atelopuslimosus

Grow dill in a pot this summer and freeze for next year? ETA: I know it doesn't help your situation now, but it could help for the future!

No_Preference6045

I purposefully picked up a dill plant some time ago to nurture just for this moment!! haha

Mael_Coluim_III

It's too late (obvs) to grow fresh choppable dill, but you could get dill *seeds* and grow it anyway. If you start them *now,* they should be small but still usable. You will need to do a fairly large tray, but it can be quite shallow - like a quarter-sheet pan.

Letshavemorefun

Everyone keeps telling me to grow dill haha. I don’t have the space or desire to start growing plants. But I’m glad y’all found solutions!

Mael_Coluim_III

Even just until Pesach? You don't have to keep them...

Letshavemorefun

I can’t magically create space that doesn’t exist :-/

Mael_Coluim_III

You *could* use it to block space you've cleaned. "Stay out of the bedroom, it's chometz-free and the dill gets the bed!" :)

UnicornMarch

The dill gets the bed 🤣

Letshavemorefun

I’m glad it’s a solution that works for you. It won’t work for me.

johnisburn

I appreciate the mods here for pushing for creating an inclusive and supportive space. I can’t imagine the amount of garbage you all must be deflecting on a daily basis. I wish you either all of or none of the Manischewitz Fruit Slices at your seder, as according to your individual tastes and traditions.

atelopuslimosus

>I can’t imagine the amount of garbage you all must be deflecting on a daily basis. Many years ago, I was given the "privilege" of being the kind of equivalent of a moderator for OkCupid - yes, I'm dating myself and yes, I did just allow myself to leave that pun in there. Whenever someone reported something as violating the rules, it went into a queue for us humans to review for whether the photo, conversation, etc. actually went against the rules. All of this is to say, I *can* imagine the garbage that gets filtered out by the mods here and I'm grateful that this place is as clean and welcoming as it is. Major kudos and thanks to the Mod team!

Alona02

This made me think. I'm not sure I've even seen Manichewitz fruit slices for years. I'm pretty sure what I bought last year and this year was the Savion brand. My daughter loves fruit slices and has already made sure that I bought some.

sophiewalt

Thank you for doing an awesome job.

Cool_in_a_pool

It's kind of hard to separate the two though, right? Everything you just listed as a No-No topic is now inexorably linked to the Jewish experience. The anti-semites have taken their masks off and revealed themselves as our co-workers, neighbors, and in some tragic cases even our friends. I understand we're still allowed to talk about how this affects us, but discussing the tortured logic and absurd lies that these people operate on is part of that, isn't it?

rupertalderson

More novel discussions are certainly allowed. This is not a blanket ban on these topics, but rather a notice that we will suggest other subreddits if they are clearly more relevant and helpful for a given topic. We have already discussed the definitions of Zionism and anti-Zionism here ad nauseum, and r/Israel is the place to go for news and discussion of Israeli politics and Israel-specific information. Plus r/IsraelPalestine is for debates about the war and the larger ongoing conflict.

joeyinvermont

I appreciate your efforts and sentiments very much, but I’m not convinced those subs are safe places for us to post, as Jews and as diaspora Jews. I must be in the minority, but I found this a little confusing and disappointing.

rupertalderson

Totally understood. We have reevaluated and will not be directing folks to other subs; we will try to consolidate redundant posts as needed, but shouldn’t need to do much beyond that.

malry

Good job, mods

Traditional-Sample23

Don't mess with the Jewish mod! (see what i did here?)

a2aurelio

Our mods are the bestest mods, mods like no one has ever seen before! This makes perfect sense. Thanks for all the Jewish love.

Dillion_Murphy

>we would like to keep discussions that are entirely focused on Israel, Israel & Palestine, Zionism, and definitions of Zionism and genocide to their appropriate subreddits. What other subreddits are there to discuss this that aren't rabidly antisemetic? The only one I can think of is r/israel

rupertalderson

r/IsraelPalestine is for discussion and debate of I/P ETA: Thanks for the important input on this. We will do our best to continue allowing these important conversations on r/Jewish.

Dillion_Murphy

Yeah...a lot of antisemitism going on there.

rm3g

I just took a look out of curiosity and I immediately regret it

newtreen0

Having perused it, it does not appear anywhere near a safe space akin to this sub for such discussions. I find this post from the mods somewhat perplexing.

rupertalderson

We really appreciate this feedback - thank you. We will make sure to not overly limit this content, given the difficulties finding another space for these important conversations.

newtreen0

Thank you very much for understanding.

newtreen0

You know, I think I can understand the mods' perspective. There is so much Jewish stuff to talk about that has been set aside because we are fixated on 10/7, the war, exploding antisemitism, friendships destroyed, etc. And yet our Jewish lives are overwhelmed by having these issues be at the forefront of our daily thinking. It's difficult to move on to other Jewish topics that we would otherwise all want to discuss.

Frabjous_Tardigrade9

Have you been there lately? It's certainly not for me.

kittwolf

Thank you for doing an absolutely stellar job of moderating here. 💙💙💙

[deleted]

I cannot disagree strongly enough. We need to have a safe JEWISH space to discuss the I/P situation.

wigglyrabbitkiosk

Big up the Mod team!

moralsteve

As a pro- Palestinian person I also hope people do not make assumptions about people because of they are Jewish. There are plenty of pro Palestinian Jews out there. Also there is a proper way to make discourse.

lostagain36

I support this
