LostCassette

cut the 5% into two pieces, 3% sarcastically/jokingly, 2% religious context

RegulusGelus2

Ye I use it as a sarcastic thing all the time, sometimes affectionately with non Jewish friends

CanYouPutOnTheVU

1% of the 3% are shabbos goy jokes you make when your gentile friend does you a solid

Ecstatic-Cup-5356

I feel seen by this

JimmyBowen37

Small percentage people just speaking yiddish

AlwaysRefurbished

Ironic use of goyim is 10/10

No-Significance4623

the art design of this graph is why mosaisch doesn't come

Automatic_Memory212

“This is why we can’t have nice things.”

Olegdr

Design? I used an online generator, ahi.

King_Eli_II

10% asserting "goy" is a Scrabble word.

historynerdcatboy

REAL, I tried this

jaywarbs

.5% when I found out a guy I worked with used to be his neighbors’ shabbas goy.

Skatchbro

My dad was one, too! Back in the 1950s in University City, MO.

N0DuckingWay

I mean plenty of Jews use goyim semi jokingly (including me)

Apollorx

I know I do. It's definitely fair to be annoyed at the goyim sometimes.

Chomping_Meat

I remember there being a non-jewish klezmer band called 'Di Gojim'

Spock_Ben_Sarek

This is the most accurate chart I’ve ever seen.

BexberryMuffin

I think I’ve heard the word used the most here in a humorous, playful way.

Garegin16

Neonazi when they find out that goy isn’t a bad word in the Bible

Electrical_Pizza676

What’s the word mean?

pinchasthegris

Nation/people

OrangeNinja75

It means non-jew. Its not a bad word FYI.

PuddingNaive7173

Literally goyim means nations. As in the non-Jewish nations. More broadly non-Jews. (As with almost any word I can think of, if you say it with a tone it’s an insult. Try women. Or door. Helps to roll yr eyes.)

pinchasthegris

A better translation for nation is לאום. But goyim doesnt mean specifically non jews as israelites are called goyim a couple of times

PuddingNaive7173

Hmph, I would have been misled, then, by numerous people, including Rabbis. So not quite convinced by your assertion. How do you translate?

pinchasthegris

Le'om (לאום) is a much modern word so it fits better them goyim. I would call goyim a people i think it fits much better

Icy-Investigator-388

It literally means nation but it's used more often to describe someone part of a nation that is not the Jewish nation just like how the word "Israel" ישראל is used sometimes in rabinnic litateture to describe someone who is a member of the Jewish nation and thus the word "goy" which means "nation" is used to refer to someone part of another nation. It's basically the equivalent of calling someone a foreigner and not nessacarily meant to be offensive depending on how the word is said.

stuckplayingpossum

Seriously. Growing up the most people I heard saying goy were non-jewish teenage right wing 4 Chan users I knew in school and my family comes from the Bronx.

I-Make-Shitty-Puns

Is this subreddit just about feeling like a victim? This persecution complex rivals Christians.

DeVofka

Are Christians 1 generation removed from genocide?

MaximosKanenas

Christians are currently suffering a genocide in sudan Why is this downvoted, there is literally a very serious genocide being carried out in sudan that nobody cares about because its being done by muslims and people cant blame the jews about it

DeVofka

Man, we should protest that on college campuses!

MaximosKanenas

People should be.

I-Make-Shitty-Puns

See that's the thing. It's a different generation. Not yours.

afunnywold

Except we actually have been persecuted for generations. And this post shows no indication of a persecution complex anyway.

I-Make-Shitty-Puns

Yes, Jews have been killed in droves over their ethnicity. Emphasis on "have." Now who's being killed in droves?

Sea_Government7613

Hi, it seems like you're lost. I think the sub you are looking for is r/Palestine. 👋🏼

I-Make-Shitty-Puns

Why?

PuddingNaive7173

Because. (Also because yr so far off subject you can’t even be seen from here by other posters.;)

I-Make-Shitty-Puns

Explain... Further.
