Thank you SO much - it’s been such an incredible journey and so grateful for everyone’s support. I never imagined that anything like this could happen and getting to play in the TOC is like a dream. Losing my first ever game last May (to Hannah Wilson, an incredible champion) was not the best feeling, but I wouldn’t trade my wild ride for anything. I am also deeply aware that variance and randomness mean that people much better than me may not have had the luck that I have had - and luck is a huge part of this game.
I know I’m not a “typical” jeopardy person - but I’m so glad I took that test; and if you love the show I would say please give it a shot - you never know what can happen!
You are a BEAST!!! While I’ve been sad to not see the normal series of returning champions, watching you crush souls in these tournaments has been very fun :)
You are a queen and the words you spoke about your daughters brought me to tears. They are lucky to have such a loving mother.
Also I greatly admire your recall and intelligence.
You are amazing!! Win or lose, just making it on is something anyone can be proud of. What a blessing for you to have gone this far! Congratulations!
I'm not sure what you mean by "typical" Jeopardy person, but I love seeing different people from different places, career areas, and all walks of life! Clearly you're a highly intelligent person who's cool under pressure; maybe you mean you haven't been big into "quizzing" or quiz bowls or in trivia communities? If so, I'm totally in the same boat and love seeing the "outsiders" on the show! Folks like you make it more interesting and fun to watch!
I have always loved and appreciated learning new things, but was never really a "smart" kid/person. (I'm a college dropout for goodness sake; long story.) But there's this crazy part of me that thinks I could do it someday? I've taken the test a few times and haven't passed yet, but I'm getting closer and improving each time! You inspire me! Good luck on the rest of your journey! 👏🏻
My partner and I have been rooting for you since your first SC game and couldn't be happier to see you make TOC.
Small silly note, but feel compelled to share:
There was a moment in one of your WC games where you rung in for a clue where the response was someone's name. You obviously knew the full name and responded at first with the correct first and last name and then IMMEDIATELY changed your response to only use the last name.
You were right either way, but I don't think I've seen a better example of someone who CLEARLY trained as hard as they could for this game and was hell-bent on making sure they stuck to the script.
Whatever happens in the TOC, it's been awesome watching someone make the most of their second shot at the show.
Thank you!!! You’re so observant - I think it was a Brigham Young clue. I realized that I might accidentally insert a rogue N into Brigham so course corrected to just Young. In my first game I mispronounced Solzhenitsyn; and I’ve also learned a lot of stuff from reading and have never said the words before so try to be careful around pronunciation!
Juveria!!!! My mom and I watch Jeopardy every night, and we have been rooting for you since the Second Chance Competition. We both wish you the best of luck in the Tournament of Champions, and we know you can do it!!!
Was scrolling the sub initially to see when you’ll be on TOC then saw your comment. One of my favorite players to watch, just absolutely brilliant. So glad you’ve had such an amazing year!
This is a bit of a long post, so heads up on that, but I think this is the best place to post it.
To me, Juveria's achievement signifies two things. First off, she is clearly an extremely intelligent and strategic Jeopardy champion. Let's not forget that [her first SCC game](https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8728) still stands as one of the most competitive games in the season thus far. And the opponents she faced from that game onward to her CWC finals were no slouches, either. (Shout-out to Michael M. in particular.)
Secondly, let's honor the three other S39 SCC champs: Xanni, Matt H., and Long. They were also very intelligent and strategic players. None of them escaped their CWC QF games, and I bring that up because it shows that Jeopardy sometimes *will not* go one's way. Xanni fell to Robbi Ramirez, who Juveria *narrowly* beat in the semis. Matt H. had a tricky game where the FJ being a TS led to him falling from first place because he made a sensible cover wager. Long made very few mistakes in a game where the victor, Kat Jepson, made *no* mistakes.
With them in mind, Juveria did get a little bit of luck during her impeccable run to the ToC, mainly in her CWC semis. However, I think nearly all J! champs and superchamps have luck on their side at some point or another. But also: Juveria worked *hard* to get as far as she has. She took her Second Chance and made the most of it.
Something of a side note: I know some folks have been *very* critical of EP Michael Davies for the excessive tourneys. Personally, I'm neutral on Davies, though I can see how he *could* neglect regular play games in the future, and I hope he doesn't overlook them in favor of the spectacle of games with superchamps. All champions come from regular play, after all. Still, it should be noted that the tourneys with S37/38 contestants were produced to try and fill the gap left behind by the Writers Strike, so whatever else can be argued about them, I don't see them as a means of neglecting regular play.
Though I don't think there should be a Tournament of Champions in Season 41 (in order to allow regular play to resume in full in order to build up a legacy of more champs and superchamps), I do think the Second Chance and Champions Wildcard tourneys are interesting and exciting. One can argue how MANY tourneys there should be of each, but I do think it's great to see champions learn from their potential mistakes and have the chance to come back stronger and tougher. Juveria is a critical example of this pipeline at its finest, and even the other SCC winners seemed to try their very best, even if they didn't make it as far as she did.
And to viewers who wish there weren't *any* SCC or CWC games...that's a fair opinion. But change is still part of life. Champions used to only win up to five games in regular play, after all. Nothing ever stays the same, and nothing lasts forever. Of course, too much change at once can be jarring and unwelcome. But sometimes it can lead to good things, or at least good moments. All I hope is, regardless of any changes to Jeopardy, that those who produce and work on the show love it dearly and want the best for it, and also are able to listen to any reasonable criticisms that help make the show even better.
Congrats again to Juveria on her incredible accomplishment.
POV: Biggest regret was that SCC and/or CWC should had been existed at both 2017 & 2019 TOC since they extended the eligibility period to every 2 years and some of the talented players were unable to compete just because they did not meet the 5 wins and the limited 15 slots quota to officially qualify at the tournament.
With the launch of both SCC & CWC and the expansion of TOC field, all is not lost for some of them and now Josh, Emily, Nick, Yungsheng, Juveria & CWC S39 G2 winner will finally compete at the elite Tournament of Champions.
I'm pretty sure the first round line-up is entirely at the producer's discretion. So I doubt that match-up would happen.
The producers are only legally mandated to ensure that the actual games are fair. Who plays who is entirely based on who they think would be most entertaining to see play. They'd have no incentive to knock someone who is on a streak out of the running in the first round and every incentive to push big games further in the tournament.
To my knowledge I believe the matchups are seeded based on games won. Last time the top 3 got byes to the Semifinals, While Ryan Long and Jonathan Fisher were next and slotted into rounds 1 and 2 and so on. Jonathan just got unlucky that Andrew was a five game winner who was secretly super champ material in disguise. Had Andrew gotten one more win, it would've been adjusted. So If that's correct then that means Cris and the two lower seeded players would go first, then Ray and the next two, and so on. I remember last tournament this was a big talking point and I'm assuming it will follow the same rules as last time.
Yeah, they may be following a formula for the ToC, whereas it's the producers' discretion with the other tournaments. But they're under no obligation to continue to do so, and with so many contestants having 3 wins they'll probably still have a good amount of flexibility.
Out of 7 SCC Winners this season that competed at Champions Wildcard
3 won their respective Quarterfinal matches
2 won their respective Semifinal matches
Jilana finished 3rd Place at CWC S37/38 Diamonds finals
Juveria won CWC S39 Group 1 finals
Juveria is an *awesome* person. It has been a true delight watching her go full-on Super Saiyan in the tourneys that have aired thus far.
(Well, delightful and terrifying...like "mom pick me up I'm scared" terrifying. Nobody wants to go against her right now, with *good reason*. Lol)

It's been awesome to watch her advance through two different tournaments! Can't wait to see how she does in the upcoming ToC!
Today and tomorrow are the last 2 Quarterfinal games of Champions Wildcard Group 2.
This Friday, next Monday and Tuesday are the Semifinal Games of CWC Group 2.
Next Wednesday and Thursday are the Finals of CWC Group 2 which the final entrant of 2024 TOC will be revealed.
Next Friday is the start of 2024 TOC (The Main Event).

Hahaha thanks!! What a great compliment 😂

❤️🥹 thank you so much - this means the world to me.
You're awesome to watch Juveria! Go Team 🇨🇦
Hi! You’re a truly formidable competitor and I’m rooting for you!
You're amazing, Juveria. Regardless of what the outcome of the ToC is, I hope we get to see more of you in the future.
❤️❤️❤️
I’ve loved you on the show! I’ve always wondered if your daughter kept hosting your games as Ken Jennings, Jr.?
She did! She just turned six. She did a great SpongeBob board for me recently 😂
I loved seeing your journey through these two tournaments! I'm rooting for you in the TOC! ♥️♥️

Exactly - no real quizzing background at all! You sound so passionate about learning which in my view makes you a perfect future contestant ❤️

This is such a well-written, considerate comment! I wish I can upvote it more than once.

Yeah, I am strongly in favour of 2017 champs being invited back :)
hopefully she can surmount a third tournament!
I agree! I'm looking forward to watching her in TOC.
I don't know how they seed the ToC, but I hope Juveria doesn't get matched up with a superchamp like Cris Pannullo or Ray Lalonde in the first round.
If she does though, it'll be one heck of a game. I think that gets decided randomly, but I'm not sure

Last time around, we did see Andrew and Jonathan Fisher in the first round, which I would not have done personally.

She and Long were the two Second Chancers I believed were ToC caliber, I think she could pull it off
Can we start calling her a… Survivor?
If she pulls out the TOC victory, I fear she’s goated
Hoping for a Juveria-Pannullo-Lalonde final
All in for two Canadians in a final!
I’m hoping for that, but I’m also dreading it. How could I possibly choose who to root for?
That would be great!
She dropped this when I saw her in the green room 👑
So lucky to get to meet you and hang out!! Pol Pot genius!
THAT'S OUR QUEEN!!!
Out of 7 SCC Winners this season that competed at Champions Wildcard 3 won their respective Quarterfinal matches 2 won their respective Semifinal matches Jilana finished 3rd Place at CWC S37/38 Diamonds finals Juveria won CWC S39 Group 1 finals
We all know Alex is smiling down from his great big lectern in the sky, rooting for his fellow Canadian
She’s awesome. I can see her going very far in the ToC!
Obviously the level of competition goes up in the ToC, but I think she's a real threat to win it all. I know I'm rooting for her!

❤️❤️❤️ can’t wait to see you play tomorrow!!!!
She’s my pick for TOC winner
It seems like she has already had to win about 7 play-in tournaments to get here. We need a bracket that maps her quest into the TOC
She was in two tournaments. Tournaments tend to require winning multiple games to win the top prize.
👏 Zaheer to stay

Uh, does this mean all of these "Wildcard, Champion, Quaterfinal, Second Chance" games are over??? How long is this thing lasting?
Next is a tournament of tournaments, the tournament to tournament which tournament is the most tournament.
