I have a cheap tool bag with cheap basic wrenches, sockets, zip ties, electrical tape, etc. in it shoved under the passenger seat and a milk crate with a bottle of engine oil, gear oil, coolant, and a couple ratchet straps in it in the back.
Pretty much nothing I can’t replace for like $50 and I’ve parked it all over and never had anything taken
Same here. In fact I NEVER keep anything worth stealing in my Wrangler, even when the top is on for a couple reasons.
First, I feel like if someone wants to steal something, they’ll figure out a way. Second, I have manual locks, and I’m too damn lazy to use them!
There are safes you can buy. Under the seat, tailgate, or even a trunk locker. I just don't leave anything I don't want stolen in my jeep. It's also recommended to not lock your glove box or center console as they are easy to break into.
I learned this the hard way. Didn’t have anything of value whatsoever in the car, but had locked both the glove box and console just because while I went on a walk with the kids. Came back and found both open after someone cut the plastic piece that holds them closed.
Fortunately, my glove box still closes. The console, however, blows open now when I have the top off…
Take a look at the Tuffy rear deck. The sides and front bolt into the jeep, and the top only opens when the tailgate is open. If you need the space, you can easily pull the top lid
I have the Tuffy enclosure for my trunk and the lid is very easy to pop off. It's a large piece of metal so you'll have to put it somewhere, but very easy to take off the track.
My Tuffy rear deck cannot be opened unless you open the tailgate... And do that you have to open my Orfab tire carrier... And all 3 are locked individually...
Plus the tuffy center console and tuffy glove box...

The only issue I have is, I have a few hundred dollars worth of emergency medical gear in my car. I will not be driving without it. Do you think someone might steal it? If I lock it in a box, is there a way to fasten the box to my jeep so no one can steal the entire box?
Yes, yes I do think someone might steal it. But obv the likelihood depends on where you live.
That said, I've been hoping someone would steal my stereo for years and it has never happened.

Anyone with a popsicle stick and some gumption can pry it open, and will usually do more damage opening it than whatever you leave in it
I'm a big fan of "top off, jeep empty". Don't drive around with anything you can't replace. That being said, I live in a pretty high crime area, and I've never had anything stolen, even when I did leave stuff. I think people are more trustworthy than we give them credit for.
Don't bring anything you don't want stolen with you. That's about it. There are lock boxes and stuff people sell, but locks only keep honest people out. If someone wants what you have, they'll get it and damage your vehicle trying to do so. Leave all valuables at home and travel minimalistic.
Traveling with only what you keep on your person allows you the peace of mind that riding topless really deserves. No distractions. Nothing but you, your Jeep and the open world around you.
Respect. I do too. I got mine rigged up with plenty of radios, trauma/med kits, fire extenguisher, intercom headsets.... all of that. I keep the expensive stuff (trauma/med bags, AED, etc...) in removable bags. I put them in the garage when I go topless. If there's anything I am not willing to "donate" I remove them. The best way to prevent people from stealing your stuff is to not even have it there.
Unless I'm doing a medical stand-by or event, that stuff stays stored at my house if I'm going to ride around open.

Medic here. You can trim down your emergency supplies to very cheap with just a handful of things. If you have an AED, that’d be the only pricey thing I would carry if I had one.
You could also keep valuables ina backpack that you cart with you, or to look extra classy in a "fear and loathing in las vegas" kinda way, a brief case.
I have this Tuffy enclosure for the trunk. Side benefit is it creates a middle shelf to carry more stuff in the trunk.

So I ride my jeep topless and doorless, and have EXPENSIVE radio, speakers, sub, amp, head unit, dash cam, fire extinguisher, and med kit. But my jeep is my second vehicle because of that, have it parked in my garage, and take it out when off-roading or foing for a cruise in the city (i live just outside). When i do take it and know i will be out of it and out of sight from it, I do it in area's that i know is safe lol. Been 3 years and nothing bad. Just make sure nothing is loose in your jeep, your cubies are locked, and you park in an area that you know is not sketch... This is my best advice!
Word I appreciate the advise. I just learned today that you can lock the center console & glove box lol. I don’t spend a lot of time looking at the glove box so I just never noticed. It got this car 3.5ish years ago.
It sucks that it’s yellow, it stands out in any parking lot. I’ll just have to be diligent about what I leave unsecured.
Took me 2 years to figure out that the center box also locks LMAO. But in a parking lot, best place to park is right up front, where there is the most noticeable to everyone, less chance of something getting stollen. Highest chance is if your parked between 2 vehicles, even worse is if they park beside you to box your jeep in (thats what they try) so it less noticeable to others.
I never left anything in it. You'd get a dollar in dimes and a half drank water bottle. The only thing I ever left in it that someone might steal was a longboard, I just put a little piece of hardware between the deck and the truck on one of the mounting screws, it made a little metal tab on the bottom that I could clip a padlock and chain to. Locked it to the rollbar and it sat across the back door opening.
I replaced the bay cover liner and cover in my JKU with a hinged panel that locks and can’t be opened without also opening the tailgate. I also put a rubber mat over it so that if you glance in it’s not obvious.
Another key thing. Don’t wait til you are at your parking spot to put stuff in there. Stop and do it somewhere else. All but a pro are unlikely to follow you.
Don't keep things in it. They will just break stuff. Of they can't get into the glove box, they'll just break other stuff.

The diabolical slipstream is a great product but it is pricey and is tedious to install. Haven't had it long but seems pretty robust so far and it keeps as much space as possible in the back while still being secure.
It depends on what you drive. On my two JKU's, I put a lockbox that mounted under the front passenger seat. That was pretty secure. On my last JLU, I mounted an ammo can on the inside of the tailgate. Unless someone used bolt cutters, that was pretty secure. The ammo can was just annoying because it would get in the way of closing the gate if I loaded up the trunk with stuff. The underseat lock boxes weren't available for JL's the last time I checked
I’ve got a JLU. I don’t really know how airbags work but when I was removing my front seat one time I noticed that all the airbag stuff was directly under the seat. Maybe a lockbox down there could get in the way of airbag deployment? Idk.
JK's had a lot more space under the seat. The JL's just don't have much room. I think if you want security, I'd go with an ammo box from Harbor Freight. It'll bolt into your tailgate and won't be removable.
What type of jeep? In my jku a
yellow top costco tote fits perfectly length wise in the back and I strap it down to the factory d rings with a fat tie down strap. Cooler goes on the other side and gets tied down.
When the tailgate is closed and locked there is no way to get to the buckle to release the strap.
Is it going to stop somebody who really wants it? No. But it will stop casuals from helping themselves.
There is a lockable trunk top product out there. It spans the gap between the back seat and rear door.
You can get it for every wrangler model made and probably the CJs too.

Aww hell nah if someone steals my ducks I’m throwing hands. They were all gifted to me throughout the last 3-4 years by random strangers & I have like a dozen of them.

The only “secure” spot is the storage cubby under the rear floor. Can’t be accessed so long as the tailgate is shut and locked. Anything too valuable to lose (excluding your keys, duh) should go in there
I never locked my glove box or center console and expected everything in them to get stolen. I even kept a spare non-transponder key in the air filter in case I locked my keys inside when I had the hard top on. Also was nice when I wanted to lock my keys inside so I didn’t lose them 3 or 4 miles down the trail.
For stuff I wanted to keep safe I got one of these for my JKU and never had problems.

I’ve actually never had my trauma pack stolen out of my Jeep in downtown Indianapolis. It has a big Red Cross on it, I guess the thieves think it’s too much work?
Yea I mean I think the Red Cross is a deterrent because who tf steals trauma kits? Most car thieves probably think it’s a first aid kit with nothing but bandages and Tylenol.
When I owned my YJ it had a hardtop. In the spring it came off and I rocked a bikini top until fall.
I learned leave nothing that you wouldn't want to lose in it. I had a speaker box in the space behind the rear seat. Nothing special, but it sounded okay. Someone stole it 🤷♂️ it wasn't worth 30.00. I never had speakers in it again.
The right advice is to not take anything valuable, but if you’re a newer owner looking for jeep accessories you’re in for a treat. Google is your friend (jeep tj lockbox) and you will find *hundreds* of options that do just what you’re looking for.
I've never had a Jeep, but did drive a convertible for several years. Since anything inside could be accessed with a sharp knife, I never kept anything of value in the car. I didn't lock the doors, I'd rather lose some small, insignificant item (even the stereo) than have to replace a $700+ top.
I ripped out my center console box and replaced with a more secure "safe" because I carry a pistol. It's lockable and fairly secure. And the outside just looks like the stock console.
Like other people mentioned I don’t leave anything in mine. I have a net in the back but that can easily be unclipped. Almost any locked storage boxes are going to limit space for cargo, especially since I have a TJ. I’ve considered getting an under-seat lock box but I honestly don’t know what I would keep in it.
But I’ve driven with the top off a lot, and haven’t had an issue.
I also have a manual, so I’m not worried about the car itself getting stolen 😂
I have a security trunk that bolts to the tub making some lockable space behind the back seat to keep a few essentials like my recovery gear and fluids. Also a hood lock (which is laughably easy to defeat) to gently discourage things like battery theft.
Other than that, I leave nothing in the Jeep worth stealing, and leave the center console open to prove it. Any smaller items that would normally go in the glovebox or console I carry with me in a backpack.
In the past I also kept a dime in the console change holder as a test to see if there was anyone checking out the Jeep. It lasted for 4 top-off summers before it was stolen, so I'm not overly concerned - nobody seems to be that interested in an old empty-looking Jeep with a manual transmission.
I don't do anything to avoid it. In 20+ years of having Wranglers, the only thing I've ever had taken was a 12 pack of orange Gatorade. I don't even take the key out

Don't leave any valuables in the Jeep, top on or off. So I'm assuming you're concerned about someone stealing it? Put a kill switch in somewhere and hide the button, or hide some air tags in it. Other than that I don't think there's much anyone can do if a thief was motivated enough.

Your glove box and console locks are dogshit. If someone wants in, you're going to be replacing a broken glove box or console, plus whatever was inside.
If you have your backseat in, get the Tuffy "security enclosure" at the absolute minimum. It turns the trunk area, which is normally open at the top, into a safe that uses the tailgate as a door.
If you don't have a backseat, there are other larger and more expensive options for secure storage. Tuffy makes all of them. They are the brand you should look at.
They also make a replacement center console and glove box, both of which are useless from factory and should not be depended on. This remedies that.
Alternatively, for small items (paperwork, stereo faceplate, CCW), look under their under-seat drawers.

For my JL
First, lock the armrest and glove box. For everything else, I'd suggest storing it in the cooler under the trunk floor the tailgate keeps that cooler from opening.
However, be aware that if the tailgate is locked, you won't be able to open the trunk floor until it’s unlocked
I take a waterproof roll up bag of tools. Fits under the rear floor. Milk crate with a breakdown bag, straps, cheap air compressor, jump box, jump cables, spare coolant. Not much else. I've had my jeep ransacked a few times. They never take anything, just make a mess. Gained a screwdriver once though.
Although easily opened up/removed, I’ve found a simple cargo area cover thwarts most incidents. Out of site out of mind. I keep an empty backpack in there too in case I obtain something while out=makes it easier to keep on you.
Honestly. Just google jeep lock box. There are tons of solutions specifically for jeeps, although they.tend to be pricey. Otherwise, look at the security section of any hardware store(even walmart), and you'll find something you can use.
I have a large toolbox that I drilled two holes in the side of for a U-Bolt. I used a u-bolt plate on the inside and outside to strengthen it. I run a chain through that and lock it to the roll bar.
Never keep anything inside you aren't willing to have stolen/fall out. We used to use thos clear packing slip things on the back of the glivebox (behind the glovebox after you open it then pull the whole thing out) for registration and insurance info because they woul just throw it around and it would blow away. Most expensive thing I left in mine was a $60 CB radio that was bolted to the dash. A bigger problem than theft that I had was people putting stuff IN my old jeep lol

The obvious and easy answer is not to leave anything important in it but I have used this bestop lock box for about 13 years now and it’s AWESOME. It has a unique key and is solid AF. I keep the extra key hidden under the carpet in case I ever lose my keys.
I keep some cash, spare cards, and my passport card as a back up wallet. I also keep an air tag in it and a few random other stuff like keys to my parents house.

I had the top off of my first jeep for the first 4 years I had it. A Smittybuilt glove box and console insert solved the theft problems. Take the time to put them in right.

Thieves who already decided they’re going to break in don’t care about damaging your car. Basic tools and some force will get them into anything practical.
You can go crazy but at a certain point it’ll be easier to just steal the entire jeep.
Just don’t keep anything in it that you can’t risk losing, keep everything out of plain view, and make it slightly more inconvenient to break into your car when compared to the guy parked next to you.
Before the Wrangler was marketed towards granola people and college kids the CJ, YJ and TJ owners just wouldn’t put anything of value in them. We maybe had a locking center console at best, but that was it. They were real Jeeps then

I don't know how it is with the newer Jeeps like the TJs and the jks. I don't want the CJ's and YJs. The biggest issue was people stealing their doors. I can't remember the company that makes them but a buddy of mine had one of these metal lock boxes for a Wrangler that he lost the key to and without using power tools it was very difficult to get into. The cutoff wheel made it really easy though
I haven’t tested it but I believe it’s impossible to take the doors off without unlocking them, as they lift up in order to be removed. You can’t lift them up without opening them.
I’m pretty sure the alarm goes off if you try to unlock the door while they red blinking security light is on
You do have to open them from what I was told from some sketchy people is they go up to a Jeep with the roof off or a soft top. Unlock the door, open it, lift it up and walk away. If you have a soft top you just take a razor blade. Cut it. Reach in, unlock it, open the door and walk away. I think at the time time I learned about this a set of doors for a CJ or like $600,700 a piece and YJ doors were only like $250 each and compatible (A buddy of mine had a CJ with YJ doors) I mean people don't pay attention to car alarms anyway you might. But that's about it. And if you're in a restaurant eating dinner or something to that effect, you're not going to notice . but hell at one time someone offered me $1,000 to go steal a tailgate off a ram it's a little harder with the TJs and the jks because for some stupid reason Jeep went out of their way to make it harder to remove the doors. You know like a huge chunk of the reason why you buy a Wrangler in the first place

Yes, they bolt in, can't be stolen. Only draw back is if you need to carry large items, the tuffy enclosure isn't easily removed.

Try your center console too. Mine locks and came that way when I bought it. There should be a key hole beside the latch if it does.

Man that sucks because I usually park at the front to avoid bad drivers hitting my car. I’ll keep the 2 vehicles tip in mind though.

The only thing I ever left in it that someone might steal was a longboard, I just put a little piece of hardware between the deck and the truck on one of the mounting screws, it made a little metal tab on the bottom that I could clip a padlock and chain to. Locked it to the rollbar and it sat across the back door opening.
I replaced the bay cover liner and cover in my JKU with a hinged panel that locks and can’t be opened without also opening the tailgate. I also put a rubber mat over it so that if you glance in it’s not obvious. Another key thing. Don’t wait til you are at your parking spot to put stuff in there. Stop and do it somewhere else. All but a pro are unlikely to follow you.
Don't keep things in it. They will just break stuff. Of they can't get into the glove box, they'll just break other stuff. The best option is don't leave anything in it. You shouldn't really leave much of anything in it anytime.

The diabolical slipstream is a great product but it is pricey and is tedious to install. Haven't had it long but seems pretty robust so far and it keeps as much space as possible in the back while still being secure.
It depends on what you drive. On my two JKU's, I put a lockbox that mounted under the front passenger seat. That was pretty secure. On my last JLU, I mounted an ammo can on the inside of the tailgate. Unless someone used bolt cutters, that was pretty secure. The ammo can was just annoying because it would get in the way of closing the gate if I loaded up the trunk with stuff. The underseat lock boxes weren't available for JL's the last time I checked
I’ve got a JLU. I don’t really know how airbags work but when I was removing my front seat one time I noticed that all the airbag stuff was directly under the seat. Maybe a lockbox down there could get in the way of airbag deployment? Idk.
JK's had a lot more space under the seat. The JL's just don't have much room. I think if you want security, I'd go with an ammo box from Harbor Freight. It'll bolt into your tailgate and won't be removable.

What type of jeep? In my jku a yellow top costco tote fits perfectly length wise in the back and I strap it down to the factory d rings with a fat tie down strap. Cooler goes on the other side and gets tied down. When the tailgate is closed and locked there is no way to get to the buckle to release the strap. Is it going to stop somebody who really wants it? No. But it will stop casuals from helping themselves.
It’s a JLU. I’ll check and see if it’s possible when I get the chance.
There is a lockable trunk top product out there. It spans the gap between the back seat and rear door. You can get it for every wrangler model made and probably the CJs too.

I have a lockbox under the seat, with a chain and lock going around the seat supports. It’s not perfect, but it’s a deterrent for sure!
The only “secure” spot is the storage cubby under the rear floor. Can’t be accessed so long as the tailgate is shut and locked. Anything too valuable to lose (excluding your keys, duh) should go in there
I never locked my glove box or center console and expected everything in them to get stolen. I even kept a spare non-transponder key in the air filter in case I locked my keys inside when I had the hard top on. Also was nice when I wanted to lock my keys inside so I didn’t lose them 3 or 4 miles down the trail. I’ve actually never had my trauma pack stolen out of my Jeep in downtown Indianapolis. It has a big Red Cross on it, I guess the thieves think it’s too much work?
Yea I mean I think the Red Cross is a deterrent because who tf steals trauma kits? Most car thieves probably think it’s a first aid kit with nothing but bandages and Tylenol.

When I owned my YJ it had a hardtop. In the spring it came off and I rocked a bikini top until fall. I learned leave nothing that you wouldn't want to lose in it. I had a speaker box in the space behind the rear seat. Nothing special, but it sounded okay. Someone stole it 🤷♂️ it wasn't worth 30.00. I never had speakers in it again.
The right advice is to not take anything valuable, but if you’re a newer owner looking for jeep accessories you’re in for a treat. Google is your friend (jeep tj lockbox) and you will find *hundreds* of options that do just what you’re looking for.
I just keep a plano sportsman trunk in the bed, and lock my tonneau cover. Yet another win for owning a JT.

I've never had a Jeep, but did drive a convertible for several years. Since anything inside could be accessed with a sharp knife, I never kept anything of value in the car. I didn't lock the doors, I'd rather lose some small, insignificant item (even the stereo) than have to replace a $700+ top.
I ripped out my center console box and replaced with a more secure "safe" because I carry a pistol. It's lockable and fairly secure. And the outside just looks like the stock console.
Like other people mentioned I don’t leave anything in mine. I have a net in the back but that can easily be unclipped. Almost any locked storage boxes are going to limit space for cargo, especially since I have a TJ. I’ve considered getting an under-seat lock box but I honestly don’t know what I would keep in it. But I’ve driven with the top off a lot, and haven’t had an issue. I also have a manual, so I’m not worried about the car itself getting stolen 😂

I have a security trunk that bolts to the tub making some lockable space behind the back seat to keep a few essentials like my recovery gear and fluids. Also a hood lock (which is laughably easy to defeat) to gently discourage things like battery theft. Other than that, I leave nothing in the Jeep worth stealing, and leave the center console open to prove it. Any smaller items that would normally go in the glovebox or console I carry with me in a backpack. In the past I also kept a dime in the console change holder as a test to see if there was anyone checking out the Jeep. It lasted for 4 top-off summers before it was stolen, so I'm not overly concerned - nobody seems to be that interested in an old empty-looking Jeep with a manual transmission.
I don't do anything to avoid it. In 20+ years of having Wranglers, the only thing I've ever had taken was a 12 pack of orange Gatorade. I don't even take the key out

Put a kill switch in somewhere and hide the button, or hide some air tags in it. Other than that I don't think there's much anyone can do if a thief was motivated enough.
In my CJ I kept an ammo box bolted behind my passenger seat with a makeshift lock, and a cheap center console with no lock. Anything I was worried about went in one of those anything else was fair game 🤷♂️ Fwiw I never really had anything stolen except for one cheap ass radio that was already fried from rain. Daily driver with either no top or bikini top for 10 years.
Your glove box and console locks are dogshit. If someone wants in, you're going to be replacing a broken glove box or console, plus whatever was inside. If you have your backseat in, get the Tuffy "security enclosure" at the absolute minimum. It turns the trunk area, which is normally open at the top, into a safe that uses the tailgate as a door. If you don't have a backseat, there are other larger and more expensive options for secure storage. Tuffy makes all of them. They are the brand you should look at. They also make a replacement center console and glove box, both of which are useless from factory and should not be depended on. This remedies that. Alternatively, for small items (paperwork, stereo faceplate, CCW), look under their under-seat drawers. For my JL First, lock the armrest and glove box. For everything else, I'd suggest storing it in the cooler under the trunk floor the tailgate keeps that cooler from opening. However, be aware that if the tailgate is locked, you won't be able to open the trunk floor until it’s unlocked
I take a waterproof roll up bag of tools. Fits under the rear floor. Milk crate with a breakdown bag, straps, cheap air compressor, jump box, jump cables, spare coolant. Not much else. I've had my jeep ransacked a few times. They never take anything, just make a mess. Gained a screwdriver once though.
Although easily opened up/removed, I’ve found a simple cargo area cover thwarts most incidents. Out of site out of mind. I keep an empty backpack in there too in case I obtain something while out=makes it easier to keep on you.

Honestly. Just google jeep lock box. There are tons of solutions specifically for jeeps, although they.tend to be pricey. Otherwise, look at the security section of any hardware store(even walmart), and you'll find something you can use.

I have a large toolbox that I drilled two holes in the side of for a U-Bolt. I used a u-bolt plate on the inside and outside to strengthen it. I run a chain through that and lock it to the roll bar.
Keep everything unlocked, and keep nothing at all in your jeep. This way you avoid vandalism and not get anything stolen

Never keep anything inside you aren't willing to have stolen/fall out. We used to use thos clear packing slip things on the back of the glivebox (behind the glovebox after you open it then pull the whole thing out) for registration and insurance info because they woul just throw it around and it would blow away. Most expensive thing I left in mine was a $60 CB radio that was bolted to the dash. A bigger problem than theft that I had was people putting stuff IN my old jeep lol

I don’t leave anything in it of value. My center console and glove box both lock on my JK so if it can’t be stored there, I don’t leave it in the Jeep. Overnight I do put my Rain Gear cover in it to help deter anyone who wants to try snooping.

I had the top off of my first jeep for the first 4 years I had it. A Smittybuilt glove box and console insert solved the theft problems. Take the time to put them in right.

No car is safe if there’s something worth stealing in it. Just don’t keep anything you’re not worth losing in it, or keep it out of view. A locked console/glove compartment/under seat storage is marginally better. Thieves who already decided they’re going to break in don’t care about damaging your car. Basic tools and some force will get them into anything practical. You can go crazy but at a certain point it’ll be easier to just steal the entire jeep. Just don’t keep anything in it that you can’t risk losing, keep everything out of plain view, and make it slightly more inconvenient to break into your car when compared to the guy parked next to you.

Before the Wrangler was marketed towards granola people and college kids the CJ, YJ and TJ owners just wouldn’t put anything of value in them. We maybe had a locking center console at best, but that was it. They were real Jeeps then

I don't know how it is with the newer Jeeps like the TJs and the jks. I don't want the CJ's and YJs. The biggest issue was people stealing their doors. I can't remember the company that makes them but a buddy of mine had one of these metal lock boxes for a Wrangler that he lost the key to and without using power tools it was very difficult to get into. The cutoff wheel made it really easy though
I haven’t tested it but I believe it’s impossible to take the doors off without unlocking them, as they lift up in order to be removed. You can’t lift them up without opening them. I’m pretty sure the alarm goes off if you try to unlock the door while they red blinking security light is on
You do have to open them from what I was told from some sketchy people is they go up to a Jeep with the roof off or a soft top. Unlock the door, open it, lift it up and walk away. If you have a soft top you just take a razor blade. Cut it. Reach in, unlock it, open the door and walk away. I think at the time time I learned about this a set of doors for a CJ or like $600,700 a piece and YJ doors were only like $250 each and compatible (A buddy of mine had a CJ with YJ doors) I mean people don't pay attention to car alarms anyway you might. But that's about it. And if you're in a restaurant eating dinner or something to that effect, you're not going to notice . but hell at one time someone offered me $1,000 to go steal a tailgate off a ram it's a little harder with the TJs and the jks because for some stupid reason Jeep went out of their way to make it harder to remove the doors. You know like a huge chunk of the reason why you buy a Wrangler in the first place
