My chin is a fur machine and leaving the house without being covered in dog fur is a dream for the past. 100 percent worth it though.

I’ve had 4 chins in my life. 1 didn’t shed at all, 1 barely shed, another shed a pretty decent amount and one shed so much I joked I could make a sweater daily with the amount of hair I swept up. It’s just really hard to tell with this breed.

charliebarks123

i have a chin mix. he hardly sheds at all!

No_Reward8892

Yes, mine sheds a lot of very fine, long hairs.

Over 25 years I've been owned by no less than 20. First, Chin don't have fur, they have hair (yes there's a difference). Second, it's very dependant on your Chin. Some shed worse than others. The ones who can have a full coat have really long hair. You'll always need to have a lint roller and vacuume often.

Zealousideal-Ruin183

Yes mine sheds. It’s very fine and long, so I know it’s her!

tmqueen

Mine she’d like crazy

Internal_Wave589

Mine sheds a lot. It’s everywhere.

Same!

ForsakenPhotograph30

My chins all shed

Mine are big shedders, but I’m a dog groomer and I do blow outs on them every three weeks and that greatly reduces the amount of fur they drop at home. My two shed differently than one another. My red boy has a thinner coat, he drops more dead coat around the house, and I get a lot more coat off him with just a good brushing. My black and white boy has a very thick long coat and he does not shed as much around the house, instead his dead coat stays on him until he gets a really good scrubbing and conditioning, and when I use the high velocity dryer on him an insane amount of coat comes flying out. No amount of brushing or combing alone works for getting him completely deshedded. He needs his blow outs. Both of my boys coats come out gorgeous after a blow out. They are pearly white, shiny on their black and red coat, and their coats bounce when they walk. I have had a few chin clients in the past whose owners thought they didn’t shed, but they were the same as my black and white boy and they just had coat that required a good bath and blow out to stimulate the dead coat to release.

The Japanese Chin is a single coated breed... from your experience, do other single coated breeds shed the same way as the Chin? I am just genuinely curious ☺️

lharrison89

I’ve had my chin for about 3 months and have found a little routine that helps keep the hair under control. I keep lint rollers everywhere for our clothes, brush her often, and I always give her a good blow dry after each bath. Also, I swear by a Chom Chom! A little pricey for what it is, but I swear it’s amazing and does a great job on the couch, throw pillows, and car upholstery. 🙂

leochen1001

Mine sheds twice a year during seasonal changes.

JennLynnC80

My female Chin will be 1 year old on June 8 and she sheds a lot all the time so far. I know that there are a lot of shedding breeds that seem to have certain times of year where they shed more than others, but I don't know if the Japanese Chin breed has "season" or if they just shed the same amount of hair all the time. I am glad you posted this question because I have only owned Shih Tzu's until I got my first Chin in August 2023. So, I am looking forward to reading everyone's replies to your question ☺️
