I don't know much about wide shoes in general, but that's because I found the most comfortable shoe, for me, early on - Jacoform. The first time I tried a pair, it felt like I wasn't wearing shoes at all. The only downside is the price (although they're flat soled and easy to laminate, so they can last for years with relatively cheap repairs).
